Hi, my son just turned 11. He was using the Nike 29" 21 oz. and it was awesome, 8 stand up triples, a gap hitter, lost its pop. He is 5'5 112 pounds. I'm looking at the DeMarini CF5 31" 21 oz. Is this a good bat? What is your opinion on rolling and shaving?
The 2013 DeMarini CF5 LE: DXCFX-LE Senior League is a great choice for a gap hitter. Rolling or shaving a bat is illegal and will void the warranty. Composite bats should be broken-in properly by taking 100-200 swings off a tee or soft toss. Rotate the barrel about 1/4" every swings. Start at 50% power until you reach 100 swings. Make sure to avoid using a composite bat in batting cages that use yellow dimpled balls.
My son plays both 'in-house' Little League and Tournament Travel ball. He is swinging a Combat Reloaded 30/18 for Little League and hitting very well. I want to get a big barrel for travel and am considering the Demarini CF5, Marucci Elite and Easton S1 (all -10's). Looking for best combo of swing speed and sweet spot. Also, do you recommend 29/19 considering he will be facing faster pitching in travel? He is 10 yrs old, 4'6" and 72 lbs.
