disappointed jb parent

Pros: voodoo bats have good pop son used them in little league and loved them.

Cons: son is in junior high school and had to move up to a (-5) voodoo bat from a (-9). and has always loved the voodoo bats. So I got him the new voodoo overlord, which is a nice bat. but these (-5) bats are end loaded. and not a good bat if your son is a contact hitter like mine. so now I have a expensive bat to put in the corner and look at. NOT A GOOD BAT FOR CONTACT HITTERS DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. Get the exogrid it has good weight equal weight throughout the bat son loves it.

Hi, do fully composite bats such as the Easton XL1 have more pop? Or do the half aluminium, half composite, like the DeMarini Voodoo Overlord have more pop? Druzick baseball
The Easton XL1 and the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD: DXVD5 Senior League should have very similar performance. The alloy barrel of the Overlord will need no period of break-in while the XL1 composite barrel will. Typically, composite barrels can hold their performance for a longer period of time.
Brandon
My son is 13 years old, 5'5" and weighs about 140 lbs. He's a power hitter. What size OVERLORD would be best for him? Thanks. MHR
Based on his height and weight we recommend a 32" 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVD5 ).
Kara
Hi, which bat would you recommend for me? I am thirteen and we have to use -5. There are two bats, the DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD and the Easton XL1 that I like the look of. I have never swung either. Which will you recommend? I would need to get about 2 years out of the bat. Druzick baseball
The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVD5) and the 2014 Easton XL1 (SL14X15) and both end loaded bats. The Easton XL1 is a two-piece composite bat and will have more flex. The DeMarini Voodoo is a two-piece bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel. The paradox composite material will provide a stiffer feel than the XL1.
Kara
Which bat has more pop out of the DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD and the Easton XL1? Which one will also last longer? Druzick baseball
The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVD5) and the 2014 Easton XL1 BBCOR (BB14X1) are both very high performing bats. They use top of line materials for outstanding pop. With proper care, they should both last about two seasons.
Kara

The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXDV5) is more end loaded than the Easton Xl1.
Jackson

Justin R.
Does this bat meet the requirements for JBO, Junior Baseball Organization? Coach K
Yes. The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVD5) Senior League does meet the requirements for JBO.
Aaron
My son is 13 and is 6'2" and 150 lbs. Your bat coach recommends a 33" 28 oz. for him. My question is this too big of a bat for a kid just coming out of Little League, where he used a 32" 20 oz., going into JBO? Coack K
The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVD5) is too large of a jump in weight. We recommend the -9 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVDR).
Kara
I'm 14 and interested in this bat. I'm 5'3" 110 lbs. Which size do you recommend? louie
At your size the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVD5 Senior League) would be best in a 31" 26 oz. or a 32" 27 oz.
Brandon
Could I use this bat in Pee Wee baseball? Best mode
Pee Wee baseball rules vary from state to state. We recommend checking with your local league official to determine if the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVD5) is legal.
Kara
Hey, I'm 5'6" and around 150 lbs. This is my first year in middle school ball and I am looking into buying my first Senior League bat. I had great success in Little League with the Easton XL1, but once I saw this bat I couldn't decide which one to get, the 2014 Easton XL1 or the 2014 Demarini Voodoo Overlord. The XL1 is $50 more expensive and I don't really know why. Do you mind list some of the major likes and differences between these 2 bats? EliTheBoss
The 2014 Easton XL1 (SL14X15) and the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVD5) will both be end loaded models. The main differences will be in the barrel. The Easton XL1 will have a composite barrel that will be slightly longer than that on the DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD. Also, the barrel on the DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD will be alloy which allows the price point to be lower than the composite on the Easton XL1. Using our Bat Coach I would recommend either of these bats in the 32" size.
Kelby
I can't decide between the S2, DeMarini Voodoo Overlord, DeMarini Voodoo Paradox, and any other suggestions. I am 5'6" and 130 lbs. I am in middle school and want the bat to be able to be used for next year. Also, which bats are legal for Babe Ruth? willdodgers
Babe Ruth will allow USSSA certified bats and also BBCOR certified bats. I would advise you to ask your coach which will be best. The S2, Voodoo Paradox, and 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVD5 Senior League) are all awesome. All will have a two-piece half and half design. The composite handle will help eliminate vibration and the alloy barrel will not require a break-in period. The S2 will feel more balanced while the Voodoo's will feel more barrel heavy. At your size the S2 may be the best option.
Brandon
What is the maximum drop weight allowed for the 2014 13-15 year old division of Babe Ruth league baseball? Andy
For the 2014 season, the 13-15 year old division of Babe Ruth Baseball allows a range of drop weights between -5 to -12.
Patrick
I need a bat that gives me a lot of power and contact. What is the best bat for me? I'm 5 foot 9 and weigh 140 pounds. Dman
We would suggest the 33 inch size of the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVD5) Senior League bat. The OVERLORD features a two piece design that contact hitters prefer because it allows flex through the zone that can increase bat head speed. It also features a slightly end-loaded swing weight that helps generate more power.
Patrick
Which has better pop, the COMBAT Portent or the DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD? Bruce
In terms of pop, both will be pretty comparable. The COMBAT is made more for contact hitters, and has a balaned swing. The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD: DXVD5 Senior League would be best suited for you if you hit more for power because of the end loaded swing weight.
Justin R.
I am about 5'2 and weigh 85 pounds, I need a minus 5 bat for my school team. Do you think this is a good bat for me? If not can you recommend a bat that would be good for me? Thanks jm55
Since the release of the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD: DXVD5, it has been a very popular bat. The OVERLORD is a two-piece hybrid construction, meaning that it features an alloy barrel with a composite handle. It also has new technology that really helps reduce the feel of any vibration. It is a highly recommended bat.
Austin
What has more pop, the Voodoo Overlord -5 or the EXOGRID 3 -5? lm93
The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVD5 Senior League) is the more popular choice for a power hitter. It will have more of a barrel heavy feel compared to the EXOGRID 3, which will be more balanced.
Brandon
I'm 5'6" 112 lbs. I play 13U baseball. Do you recommend this bat for me? If so, what size? jake
The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVD5) Senior League has an end loaded swing weight and is a great bat for power hitters. Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 31" model.
Jason
What is a better bat for a power hitter: the Voodoo Overlord or the Voodoo? reabba12
Both versions of the Voodoo are great options. They both offer a slightly end loaded swing weight and stiff flex that a power hitter will likely use well. However, the Overlord model provides the new D-Fusion handle that improves energy transfer on contact. It is the better bat of the two, but the previous version of the Voodoo would still be a solid pick.
Mac
Does this or the Louisville Slugger Attack have a longer barrel? redhawks4900
Due to its slightly more gradual taper, the 2014 Louisville Slugger Attack (SLAT14-R5) has just a bit longer barrel than the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVD5) but not by any significant margin in terms of performance.
Patrick
I'm 14 years old, 5'10" tall and weigh 166 lbs. What size would be best for me? It has to be a -5. Aj
We would recommend a 32" bat for someone of your size, although you can go up or down 1" from the recommendation based on personal preference.
Kyle J.
What would you recommend in a -5 middle school bat? I am a contact hitter who 5'10" and 135 lbs? Abe
Based on your height weight, we suggest a 33" model in a balanced bat. The 2014 DeMarini Vexxum (DXVX5) Senior League is an excellent balanced option. The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVD5) Senior League has an end loaded swing weight and is typically better for power hitters.
Jason
I am 5'3" and 125 lbs. What length do you recommend? Swingman
Based on your approximate height and weight, I would suggest a 31" in the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD: (DXVD5).
Merritt
I am a 5 foot 3 contact hitter and I weigh 110 pounds. Would the Overlord Voodoo 31 inch 26 ounce be my best bet? Park
If you are a contact hitter, I would possibly recommend going with a more balanced model than the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVD5). The end-loaded design of the OVERLORD is usually more preferred by a power hitter type player. The 2014 DeMarini Vexxum (DXVX5) would be similar in design but would be more balanced. Based on your height and weight, the 31 inch design would be a good fit.
Patrick
I am 13 and play travel ball. I Am 6"0 and 160lb, what size would you recommend? BIG-E
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend a 33" model of the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD (DXVD5) Senior League bat.
Mac
I am almost 14 years old and I am 5 foot 6 and weigh 165 pounds. What size should I get? m/c
Based on your height and weight, we would suggest that you get the 32 inch size of the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVD5).
Patrick
I am 5'2", and 120 pounds. What size bat would you recommend? Jake
Based on your approximate height and weight, I would suggest a 31" in the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD Senior League Baseball Bat: (DXVD5).
Merritt
Does this bat have more pop than the Easton MAKO? dingus
Both models are going to be able to produce a high level of performance. The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD Senior League Baseball Bat: (DXVD5) incorporates alloy into the barrel, whereas the 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: (SL14MK9) features a TCT Thermo Composite. Therefore, the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD Senior League Baseball Bat: (DXVD5) will be able to perform a little bit faster, however, the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) might be able to last a little bit longer. Ultimately, it just comes down to player preference of the material, but both designs are very high quality, and are top of the line.
Merritt
Is it leagal to use for PONY and Babe Ruth? Art
It depends on what division you are in, but the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVD5) is approved for play in Pony and Babe Ruth. It is legal for play in the Bronco level and below for Pony League. It is also legal in the 13-15 year old division in Babe Ruth.
Jason
I am 5 foot 4 and weigh 100 pounds. I want this bat in a -5 length to weight ratio. What size would be best for me? jman4
Based on your height and weight, we would suggest a 31 inch size of the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVD5).
Patrick
I just ordered this bat, and it comes tomorrow. I have tryouts on Sunday. Would you recommend using it for the tryout or using my old bat so I can break in the new one? all day
The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVD5) features an alloy barrel, so it will not require a break in period. It will be good to go right out of the wrapper.
Tessa
I'm 5'4", weigh 100 pounds, and I'm going into 14u JBO. How long will a 31" 26 oz. last? all day
It is tough to say how long any bat, including the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVD5), will last. It will really depend on how often the bat is used and if proper bat care tips are followed. With this bat featuring an alloy barrel, performance will be best right out of the wrapper, however, over time performance will taper off the more that you use it. It is covered under a 12 month manufacturer warranty through DeMarini, so if it were to become damaged within a year of purchase, you can send it back to them for the warranty replacement.
Tessa
I have heard so much about the Easton XL1 and the Voodoo OVERLORD. I ordered the Voodoo already, but what would you consider a better bat? Also, I am 5'4"and weigh 100 pounds. Is a 31" 26 oz. a good size to use for a season or two? all day
The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVD5) and the Easton XL1 are two of our most popular end loaded bats. Both are high performance models from their respective manufacturers. There is one key difference between the two though. The OVERLORD features a hybrid design, so it will be hottest right out of the wrapper. The XL1 features a fully composite design, so it will require a break in period before it will see its top performances. It is tough to say which bat is better, it will truly depend on your preference of barrel material. Based on your height and weight, we recommend a 31" bat.
Tessa
I am 14 and I hit for contact but also with decent power. I was wondering if is this a good bat for me? Olin
The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVD5) has a slightly end-loaded feel that would be preferred more by a power hitter type. If you are able to swing it with good speed, it could lead to more power.
Patrick
I am 13 years old, 5'1" and 104 pounds. I am also more of a contact-hitter. Should I get this bat? Teague
2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD Senior League Baseball Bat: (DXVD5) will incorporate a two-piece structure, and generally contact-hitters like this structure because of the added flex it provides through the zone. The weight distribution will be end-loaded, and generally power-hitters prefer this type of top heavy feel. Ultimately, it will come down to what your preference is, but this model could potentially work well for you because of its structure.
Merritt
I am 14 years old 5'4", and I hit with contact and decent power. In the spring I used the 2013 Vexxum. Does this bat have a bigger barrel size? wert
The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVD5) is only available in a 2 5/8" barrel diameter. The OVERLORD does have a slightly longer barrel than the Vexxum and will have a bigger sweet spot.
Jason
What is the difference between the 2014 and 2015 VOODOO OVERLORD? Bone-A
DeMarini has made some key differences from last years 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVD5) to this years brand new OVERLORD FT. This year, they upgraded the alloy material in the barrel. They now use the X12 alloy, versus the X10 alloy from years past. This new alloy uses an optimal blend of alloy agents designed to create optimal strength at the thinnest point. They also have upgraded the D-Fusion handle, so now it is flame tempered (FT). The new handle helps to make a stiffer feel on contact while providing protection against sting and vibration. Lastly, the ION-V End cap designed to enlarge and boost the sweet spot.
Tessa
Is there a minor difference in pop between this and the Paradox? Is the grip tapered out at the bottom? Is the D-fusion handle worth it? mr. money
The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVD5) and the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVD5) will be similar in terms of performance or "pop" because they will be rated to the same standard of performance for safety reasons. The grip will have a slightly flared feel toward the knob. The D-fusion handle is the major difference between the two and it offers better sting and vibration protection and better regulation of the flex of the bat for an overall better feel for the player.
Patrick
My son is 5'1" and is 139 lbs. Would this -5 suit my 12 year old against pitchers throwing 70-75 mph? ryan
For your son we would recommend a 2014 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVD5) in a 31" length. As far as weight is concerned, we would base a recommendation off of the weight he swung last season. We usually don't recommend moving more than 2 ounces between seasons.
Ben
Is it end-loaded ? kyle
The DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVD5) will have a end-loaded or barrel heavy feel compared to most balanced models.

About the Brand

In 1992, DeMarini Sports had something to celebrate. The three-year-old company had climbed a rung on the proverbial ladder of success, moving its world headquarters from a dirt-floored barn to a slightly larger metal shack. "It was a big move for us," recalled Ray DeMarini from the batting cage of DeMarini Sport’s present-day Bat Industrial Complex. "The new shop was larger, more storm resistant, and -best of all- it had a heater."

In the early days, DeMarini Sports hardly made a blip on the radar screen of softball. With no retailers and virtually no advertising budget, DeMarini grew steadily by selling high-performance bats directly to customers. While established companies made "juiced" bats for the pros and ordinary bats for the public, DeMarini focused on making one line of high-performance bats for pros and amateurs alike. This approach, combined with a passion for the sport, led to the greatest innovation in softball history - the world’s first multi-wall bat: the DeMarini Doublewall.

Released in 1993, the DeMarini Doublewall was the world’s first multi-wall bat. Like a modern golf driver or oversized tennis racket, the Doublewall had a giant "sweetspot," which allowed average players to hit like pros. DeMarini’s sales exploded, and before long opposing bat manufacturers to notice. DeMarini - a homegrown company led by a softball fanatic - had shaken the establishment silly.

To understand the rise of the DeMarini Dynasty, you need to know Ray DeMarini. A cult hero among avid players, Ray DeMarini emerged on the professional softball scene at the age of 40, a veritable geriatric among younger players. With a scientific approach to training, a batting speed of 96 miles-per-hour and a bombastic attitude, DeMarini fast earned a reputation as a savage competitor.

In June of 1987, ESPN launched a nationwide search for a hardcore player to advise on a series of instructional softball videos. When approached by producer Erich Lytle, the biggest boys in softball repeatedly spoke of a five-foot-seven softball giant—Ray DeMarini. DeMarini had mastered reflex hitting, a technique that drops the ball squarely between the infield and outfield. Impressed with DeMarini's knowledge and scientific approach to training, Lytle not only hired Ray as an advisor—he hired him as the host. Together, they produced Ray DeMarini's Reflex Hitting System, ESPN's most successful home video to date.

Having garnered national recognition through ESPN, Ray turned his efforts toward designing a high-performance bat for the masses. To accomplish this, he needed an engineer. "Not just an engineer," he said, "but a boot-strapping rocket scientist who could build an empire with pocket change." Ray's call was answered by Mike Eggiman. Having grown up on a farm, Eggiman was adept at making the most of a situation. Case in point: the company's first piece of automated bat-making equipment had the heart of an abandoned washing machine.

With Eggiman as Chief Engineer, DeMarini Sports delivered a series of industry firsts: the first multi-wall bat (Doublewall Distance), the first high-performance bat for massive players (Fatboy) and the first high-performance youth bat (Black Coyote).

In 2000, DeMarini joined forces with Wilson Sporting Goods to develop the next generation of hitting technology. Ray believed it was a perfect fit, as both companies shared a vision of developing game-enhancing equipment for avid players. What’s more, the companies had complimentary products: Wilson was the leader in gloves, balls and protective gear, while DeMarini made the world’s finest bats. According to Chris Considine, Vice President/General Manager of Wilson Sporting Goods: "The thing that struck me most about DeMarini was their passion for sports and their true competitiveness.

Within a year, DeMarini unveiled the industry’s first concept bat, the $35,000 F1. Secured under lock and key at the DeMarini Bat Industrial Complex in Hillsboro, Oregon, the F1 served as a technological storehouse for future products, including DeMarini’s landmark Half & Half system.

In December 2001, 12 years after the genesis of DeMarini Sports, Ray DeMarini died of cancer in his Northwest Portland home. He was 55. The next summer, the Portland Metro Softball Association paid homage to the “King of Softball” with the dedication of Ray DeMarini Field. Formerly known as Delta #1, the field was DeMarini’s favorite place to test bats during the early days of business. Ray DeMarini—bat maker and player extraordinaire—was remembered for his high-performance softball bats and unwavering encouragement of everyday players. Today, a 40-foot sign announcing RAY DEMARINI FIELD graces the outfield, and an interpretive display chronicling Ray’s life greets players as they register for games.

More "Insane Dedication to Performance" is in store for tomorrow.
