Description

The Easton S1 Youth Baseball Bat! The next generation of Power Brigade has arrived. Now in its third season, this groundbreaking line of bats is unlike anything else on the field today. The concept is simple: Help players hit for power. However, Easton realizes that different players achieve a powerful swing in different ways. That's why the Power Brigade is divided into two distinct series - the XL Series (XL1, XL2, and XL3) and the Speed Series (S1, S2, and S3). The XL Series is designed for bigger, stronger hitters who derive their power from a bat with more mass. Smaller length to weight ratios, and an extra-long barrel with a massive sweet spot and a slight end load characterize the XL Series. The Speed Series, on the other hand, helps players increase their swing speed in order to generate more power. These bats feature lighter length to weight ratios, a lower M.O.I., and a balanced feel. Further trying to equip players with their perfect bat, Easton offers all of its Power Brigade bats in a two-piece IMX Composite/SIC Black Carbon design (XL1, S1), a two-piece THT100 Scandium Alloy/SIC Black Carbon hybrid design (XL2, S2), and a one-piece THT Scandium Alloy design (XL3, S3). Two of the highest performing materials ever used on a bat, Easton's patented IMX Composite optimizes the sweet spot for maximum performance, while their THT Scandium Alloy provides solid durability and allows for a larger alloy sweet spot than is seen anywhere else on the field. Throw in an array of additional world-class Easton technology, and you've got a line of bats that can't be topped. Easton: Engineered for Glory! The Easton S1 is approved for play in Little League, Babe Ruth, Dixie, Pony, AABC, and features the USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp. It is backed by Easton's Exclusive 12 Month Manufacturer's Warranty. S1 pvnll player

Pros: Has a lot of pop. Easy to swing, feels really good in your hands. It's almost the same thing as the LS Attack but has a bit more pop.

Cons: Spend the extra 40$ to get a MAKO. In all honesty it feels lighter then the S1 if that is what you are going for. And it has more pop

Pros: This bat is a great bat for 11 year old kids like me. It is a amazing bat with excellent pop.Overall, this bat may be the best bat available for kids looking for a new bat.

Cons: Personally, there is nothing wrong with this bat. The only bad thing is that the bat will get dirty and when you have to get a new bat.

Make sure to break in Gary Lilly parent

Pros: This is a very dynamic and ability leveraging bat. My 9 year old hits very well with it. At first, he couldn't get a solid hit from it and I was thinking it was a piece of junk. Then I figured out we needed to break it in. After 500 or so hits, from a combination of tee hits and pitching to him, now the bat has come alive.... and just in time for the end of Spring ball. Now he hits the ball all the way to the fence with minimal effort.

Cons: All of the other kids want to use it and they have already scratched it since they don't take care of stuff that isn't theirs.

I'm loving it! Batman coach

Pros: Just into the season and my son has made me a believer with this bat. 2 line drive homers from a career contact hitter. Hardly broken in, maybe 100 swings cause I wouldn't let him swing it on cold practice nights. Baseball is a lot about confidence and you can buy confidence with this bat. Square it up and let the s1 do the rest.

One of the worst durability bats! Rob coach

Pros: I have an 8 year old son and he loves the feel and pop of the bat. He was consistently one or two hopping the fence.

Cons: He has broken this bat three times this year. We were extremely carefully on breaking the bat in and also not using the bat below 70 degrees. I have been a long time Easton fan but after this year we are switching to Demarini.

Devon Stanley player

Pros: The bat is really great. It has really great pop! I bought the 32-20 and it works awesome! It is very light so you therfore can get a relly quick speed. Ive had it for about 3 months now and have hit 5 over the fence of about 210 feet.

Cons: It takes about 150-250 hits to break in. If you get a hit that hits the end or the handle of the bat it hurts your hand really bad. Also if you swing upward on the ball the pop makes the ball go really high in the air.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton S1 Youth Baseball Bat: YB14S1? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

How many inches is the sweet spot on this bat and how many inches is the sweet spot on the 2014 MAKO? colin
The size of the sweet spot on the bat depends on the size of bat you are looking at getting. The 2014 MAKO Youth has an extended sweet spot which will be larger than the 2014 Easton S1 Youth.
Justin R.
My boy is 10 years 5' 4" and bats left with good power when finding the sweet spot. He tends to be a little slow sometimes with his swing just don't want to waste money. What bat would be good? Ozzmosis
The 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth is a top-of-the-line two-piece composite model. It's very well balanced, which will help your son to increase bat speed. The composite handle will also provide some flex, creating a whip effect through the zone for additional bat speed.
Katie
Is this bat better or the mako Jakethe snake
Both the 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth and the 2014 Easton MAKO: YB14MK Youth are balanced two-piece fully composite bats, but the MAKO will have a bigger barrel with an extended sweet spot.
Jason
I am trying to decide between a Mako 29/18 and S1 29/17. I know he can swing a 29/17, but he is only 8 and getting better. I also have a 30/18 big barrel he can't swing. Evan
Based on his age, our charts recommend a 29" model in the 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth bat. For further information on sizing, please visit our Bat Coach at http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Aubrey
What is the difference between the 2013 and 2014 S1 youth model? V
The 2013 and 2014 Easton S1 youth models are going to be very similar. Both models use Easton's IMX composite in the barrel and will feature the SIC Black Carbon Composite handle. The 2014 has made some slight improvements to increase the life span of the bat.
John
How does 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth (-12) differ from the 2014 DeMarini CF6: DXCFL Youth (-11) outside of the difference in the drop? Stephen
The 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth and the 2014 DeMarini CF6: DXCFL Youth are both balanced, two-piece composite bats. The main difference is the CF6 features D-Fusion technology to eliminate vibration.
Kara
What is the difference between the S1 and the XL1? Joe
The 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth and the 2014 Easton XL1: YB14X1 Youth are both two-piece composite bats. The Easton XL1 is end loaded, compared to the Easton S1 that is balanced.
Kara
Trying to decide between the S1 29/17 and Mako 29/18 for my son. He is going to be U11 for 2014 (turning 10 in Jan). He is 53" tall and weights 60 lbs. He is a contact hitter with not too much power. But he wants to drive the ball farther. Which one would you suggest? Markus
Both the 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth bat and the 2014 Easton MAKO Youth bat would work for him. They both feature very light and balanced swing weights. Also, both are two-piece fully composite designs. The MAKO will have an extended barrel design that the S1 will not have. Which could help with contact and power.
Brandon
My son is 85 lbs and 58". He really wants a composite bat and is definitely more of a contact hitter not as much power. Would the S2 be a good choice in 31/19? I would like for him to be able to grow into it a little. (He grew 10 lbs and 4 inches in the past year). He is currently using an aluminum bat 30/18. Griffie
The 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth is a great choice. The balanced, two-piece design is suited for a contact hitter. The 31" 19 oz. is a great choice if you want a bat he can grow into.
Kara
Which has a lighter swing weight: the Easton S1 or the S2? cj
The 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth and the 2014 Easton S2: YB14S2 Youth are going to have the same swing weight and balanced feel.
Marcus
My son is 10 and a half years old. He is 63 inches tall and weighs 89 lbs. What size bat would you recommend? Charlie
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth in a 30''. For more information on sizing please visit our Bat Coach at http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/.
Tori
What bat should I get? I am 4'8' 67 pounds and almost 12. I am looking to get the S1 but the reviews on the XL1 are amazing. Jarrod
The 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth is a balanced bat and is better for a player that needs to increase their bat speed. The Easton XL1 is end loaded and best suited for a power hitter. Both are two-piece composite bats with great pop.
Kara
The 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth is a balanced bat and is better for a player that needs to increase their bat speed. The Easton XL1 is end loaded and best suited for a power hitter. Both are two-piece composite bats with great pop.

I was wondering about the vibration on this bat. I see it kind of has mixed reviews. I was thinking about getting this for my grandson for Christmas. We are in the process of figuring out if he will need the 30" or 31" Johneboy
There are no major issues with vibration on this model. It may have a little bit as the bat goes through the break-in period of approximately 150-200 swings. To help you with sizing, you may check out our bat coach that runs you through a series of questions to help you with sizing, as well as give you a few more options to choose from. Here is the link for our bat coach: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Derek
My son is 9 years old, weighs 66 lbs and is 4'4" tall. He is not a power hitter. Would this bat be good for him and, if so, what size? Ken
The 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1) is a good choice for a contact hitter. It will be balanced and light weight. We would recommend getting a 28''. For more information on sizing please visit our Bat Coach at http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/.
Tori
I'm 11 and a half, 85 lbs, and 58" tall. I currently have a 29/17 one-piece composite bat, but I feel like it's getting too small. My friend has the 2013 Easton S1 30/18 and I love it. What bat and size would you recommend? Joe
The best recommended bat length for a player your size will be 30". The 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth bat will come in a 30" 18 oz. size.
Brandon
What is the difference between the 2013 model and the 2014 model? zay
The 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1) Youth and the 2013 Easton S1 (YB13S1) Youth are the same bat other than the physical appearance.
Jason
My son is 8 yrs old 60 lbs and 4'2". He is a contact hitter but a little bit of a slow swing. Would you recommend this model? last year he used an Easton 27" -13. cj
The 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1) Youth has a balanced swing weight and is a great option for players trying to increase their bat speed. Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 28" model.
Jason
My son just turned 12, he is 62 inches and 84 pounds. What size and weight combo would you recommend? He used an 18 oz. bat the past 2 years. Bob
The 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1 Youth) is a very balanced, two-piece bat. The -12 drop is typically used by younger players. We recommend the 2014 Easton MAKO (YB14MK Youth) 31" 20 oz. for a player his age and size.
Kara
My son is 12 and 5feet 2 inches. He ways about 98lb, What length ane weight would you recommend for him? Dimplesmom
For the 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth at that given height and weight we would suggest 31 inches and 19 ounces.
Merritt
my son is 5ft tall and weighs 88 lbs what bat size would you recommend. He not a big kid but has quick hands. jacko
Given your son's height and weight, the recommended length range we suggest would be between 29 and 31 inches. The longer the bat, the heavier it will be. The player should use the heaviest bat that is comfortable for them to swing. However, it is important that the weight does not severely lower bat speed.
Patrick
Wow do I break-in this bat? mike
The 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth features very high quality composite that will only require a short break-in period. We recommend 150-200 swings off of a tee or with soft toss to get this bat game ready. We also have some "how-to" videos located on our JustBats.com blog.
Justin R.
My son is 9 years old. He is 44 inches tall, and about 50 pounds. He has quick hands. What size bat would you suggest? DJ
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend a 27 inch bat. Unfortunately, the 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1) Youth model does not currently come in a 27 inch size. The smallest size currently available would be 28 inches. If your son does generate good bat head speed, he may be able to adjust to a longer bat by choking up on the handle.
Patrick
My son is 10 years old, 5 ft. 2 inches tall and swings a 30" drop 9 big barrel bat for travel ball. He needs a standard barrel for Little League and wants to keep the 30 drop 9 length to weight ratio. Is this available in the S1? TimmyV
The 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1) is not available in a -9. The closest to a 30" 21 oz. bat would be the 2014 Easton XL1 (YB14X1). It is available in a 30' 20 oz.
Kara
Has Easton shortened the sweet spot on this model compared to previous years? james
The 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth features the same design and sweet spot as previous years. The new 2014 model features the IMX composite barrel and SIC Black Carbon Composite Handle.
Justin R.
How does this bat compare to COMBAT Wanted? Also my son is 50" and 55 lbs. What bat size do you recommend? Edgar
The 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1) and the COMBAT Wanted are both two-piece composite bats. They are both balanced and will perform very well. Based on his height and weight we recommend a 29" bat.
Kara
It is the first year of machine pitch and he is 7 years old and is 51". What is the right size? Joevan
Based on his age and height, we suggest a 28" model in the 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1) Youth. However, the best way to determine the correct size is by the players height and weight. For more sizing information check out our Bat Coach http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Jason
My son is an opposite field hitter, how much will a two piece bat affect his swing? Just Asking
The two-piece design of the 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1) Youth bat will offer more flex and create a whipping motion through the zone that you will not see on a one piece design. This motion could disrupt the control a opposite field hitter would desire.
Patrick
My son is 9 yrs old. He is 47 inches tall and weighs 60 lbs. He is not a power hitter, but has quick hands. What would be the best bat and size? xman
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 27" bat. The 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1) Youth is an excellent option for a contact hitter with its balanced swing weight and two-piece design.
Jason
Whats the coldest weather you could use this bat with outside Isaac
The recommended temperature for best performance on the 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1 Youth) is 55 degrees and above.
Brandon
Would you recommend this bat or the XL1 for a lead off hitter who can hit home runs and singles? ryanm
I would recommend the Easton XL1 (YB14X1 Youth) for someone who is a power hitter or hits home runs because the weight in the bat is towards the end of the bat. For the Easton S1 (YB14S1) I would recommend it for someone who is a contact hitter who hits to get on base because it is a balanced bat.
Zach
My son is 10 yrs old and 54 inches tall and weighs about 90 LBS. Never really shown much power but does hit mostly line drives. Would you recommend this bat (S1), the MAKO or the XL1? Thanks. Todd
The 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1) or the 2014 Easton MAKO (YB14MK) are both great options for a contact hitter. The balanced swing weight is ideal for a player that needs to increase their bat speed. The Easton XL1 is an end loaded bat and designed for a power hitter.
Kara
I just got this bat and was wondering if there was any chance of me hitting a homer on over the fence. left and right field are 180 feet and center is 200 feet please reply. LUKE
Unfortunately, a great bat doesn't guarantee you'll hit a homerun. But this 2014 Easton S1: YB14S1 Youth offers a very balanced swing weight which should improve your swing speed. And bat speed is the key to power. This bat should give you a good shot at hitting a homerun. But good luck this season!
Mac
I have read in places that the S1 has some cracking issues. Does the bat crack and if so is there something one can do to prevent it or should we look at other bat options? We are looking for a bat for a 10 year old that is more of a power hitter. JR
When the S1 bats were first released there were some durability issues. However, Easton upgraded the composite materials in the handle to increase durability. We also recommend to break-in a composite bat to extend the lifetime. For a power hitter we recommend an end loaded bat such as the 2014 Easton XL ( YB14X1).
Kara
Where is this bat made? Mets8341
The 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1) Youth bat is manufactured in China.
Patrick
What are differences/improvements made from the 2013 S1 to the 2014 S1 (YB14S1)? Dozer
The 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1) Youth and the 2013 S1 are the exact same bat except for the color/paint scheme.
Jason
What is the difference between the MAKO and S1? I know the XL is end loaded. Price is not an issue but I am not rich either. I just want to get the right bat for my son who is 12 years old. He is 5' 4" and 103 lbs. I want a bat that could last him at least 2 seasons to grow into. If you had a choice between the three Easton bats what would you choose? Honestly. alohamon
The Easton MAKO will be a combination of the Easton XL1 and the 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1 Youth) bats. The MAKO will have a two-piece fully composite design, like both the S1 and XL1. The MAKO will have an extended barrel length like the XL1, but with a super balanced feel like the S1. I would go ahead and grab the MAKO for a player who wants the balanced swing feel and the longest barrel possible.
Brandon
My son is 4'11, and weigh is 76 lbs., what bat should he be using? I was thinking a size like 31" 19 oz. What do you think? sam
Based on the information you provided our bat coach suggest a 30" 18 oz. in the 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1). If you are expecting your son to grow into a 31" 19 oz. that wouldn't be a bad size for him.

How long does this bat last? How will I know when the bat is dead? I have a 2013 model that my son claims has lost its pop. sschrader
Generally, bats can last anywhere from 1 to 2 years depending on how well it has been taken care of, and how often it has been used. Many factors have the potential to determine the lifespan of a bat. However, the best way to know whether a bat is dead or not is to judge it off of its feel. If the bat feels like it has lost its pop, more than likely it has. Therefore, it might be time to take a look at the 2014 Easton S1: (YB14S1) since the previous years model is starting to lose its pop.

What should I use? I am 5'7" 116 lbs. I use a 31". What do you recommend? baller8372
Based on your height and weight, the 31" model is the ideal size for you in the 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1) Youth.

My son has slow hands but is a great contact hitter. I purchased the Easton Mako -10 and he struggles with it. He used a friends -12 Easton and could control it better. Would you recommend the Easton S1 for a 5', 100 lb 10 year old with slow bat speed / hands right now? ken
Yes, the 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1) would be a great choice for someone who is looking to improve their bat speed, as it has a very balanced swing weight which is ideal for that purpose.

Which bat should I select? The S1, S2, or S3? Tanner
If you are more of a power player, I would suggest going with the 2014 Easton S3: (YB14S3). This model will be a one-piece alloy design and will provide a lot of power. The one-piece design is also going to provide a little bit of a stiffer feel, which is generally preferred by power players. If you are more of a contact/gap hitter. The 2014 Easton S2: (YB14S2) and 2014 Easton S1: (YB14S1) would be very suitable for your game. The two-piece design will provide a little bit more flex. All of these bats will be extremely balanced, however, it will depend on your playing style as to which bat will be best suited for you.

I am around 5'9" and 125 lbs. Do you think the (YB14S1) is good for me? the crusher
The 2014 Easton S1 Youth Baseball Bat: (YB14S1) has been a very popular and high performing model. The two-piece full composite, balanced model, makes this bat an excellent choice for contact hitters.
Merritt
Can you compare the barrel length of the youth S1 and youth Mako from 2014? Are the 2015 models about same? dadwith2
The 2014 and 2015 models of the 2014 Easton S1 Youth Baseball Bat (YB14S1) and the 2014 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB14MK) will be similar from year to year. The MAKO has a slightly longer barrel length for more barrel mass like on the XL1 but both will have extended barrel designs.

I am looking for a good balanced bat for my son. He has been using a Combat, now he wants an Easton. He is swinging a 31/19. He is 5'7 about 150 and is 12 yrs old. badandy74

What is the difference between the 2 1/4-inch Easton youth S1 bat and the Easton youth S2 bat? Is there any difference to their balance? Also, is there a new 2015 model for the S2 as there is already for the S1? James
The 2014 Easton S1 Youth Baseball Bat (YB14S1) is a two-piece full composite design with a -12 drop. The Easton S2 Youth model will feature an alloy barrel and a composite handle with a -13 drop. The S2 will have the lighter swing weight of the two. The 2015 Easton S2 will be released shortly. The model number for the S2 Youth is YB15S2.
John
Can this bat or any composite bat be used in the batting cages that throw the "dimple balls"? Cesar
The yellow dimpled cage balls will react with any bat differently than a regular baseball and can lead to damage regardless of material. The way bats like the 2014 Easton S1 Youth Baseball Bat (YB14S1) are made is specifically designed to hit baseballs so any other product can cause problems.
Patrick
I just got my 10 year old a S1 but now wondering if I should have gotten an XL1? It is a 30" -12. bos
The 2014 Easton S1 Youth Baseball Bat (YB14S1) features a balanced swing weight, which is generally preferred by contact hitters. So if your son is working on bat speed and control, that would be a great option for him. If he is on the stronger side and has great bat speed, the XL1 may be a good choice to explore. It features an end loaded swing weight, which is generally preferred by power hitters. Ultimately, the best bat for your son will be the one that best compliments his hitting style.
Tessa
Would you have to "break in" this bat? a
This Easton S1 Youth Baseball Bat: YB14S1 is a two-piece fully composite design so it will require a break in period to ensure maximum performance and durability. We recommend about 150-200 hits off a tee or soft-toss with a rotation of about a quarter of an inch between each hit.
John P.
