Composite bats have great pop just like alloy bats. The 2014 Easton XL1 (SL14X18) bat is more for a power hitter. This bat will be slightly end-loaded so it will be heavier than a balanced bat. We would recommend to staying with a more balanced bat such as the 2014 Easton S1 (SL14S110).

The 2014 Easton XL1: (SL14X18) will be slightly heavier at the end of the barrel. If you like the feel of the S1, which is more balanced, the XL series will have a different weight distribution. It will be more end loaded. Generally, end loaded bats are favored more by power hitters. However, this particular model will only have a slight end loaded feel. I don't think this particular model would be too heavy for you, but it just depends on what you feel most comfortable swinging. Balanced bats will have their weight more evenly distributed, and end loaded bats will be more top heavy.

As a contact gap hitter, I would probably recommend looking for a balanced two-piece model. The 2014 Easton S2 Senior League Baseball Bat: (SL14S210) will incorporate a hybrid design. The THT100 Scandium Alloy material used in the barrel will be able to provide a lot of great power hot out of the wrapper. This model will be great for players looking to hit for power, but will also still feature characteristics favorable for a contact-hitter.

With regard to pop, the 2014 Easton XL1 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14X18) and the Easton MAKO will have the same amount of pop since they both have to meet the 1.15 BPF standard. It will actually depend on you and what bat best suits your hitting style. If you are more of a power hitter, the end loaded design of the XL1 may be the better option for you. If you want to work on bat speed and control, the MAKO may better suit you since the balanced swing weight will be easier to work with and control. The 2014 Easton XL1 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14X18) is a great bat if you are a power hitter and it would be wise to move closer to a -3 model as soon as you can. The XL1, however is an end loaded bat. That would be an advantage if you are a power hitter. If you are more of a contact hitter I would look at something like the 2014 DeMarini CF6 Senior League Baseball Bat (DXCFR) which is also a -8, but balanced.

That will be a matter of preference. The 2014 Easton XL1 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14X18) features an end loaded swing weight, so not only will he be gaining at least two ounces with the -8 size, but there will be additional weight in the head of the bat. Generally, you want to swing the heaviest and longest bat that you can comfortably and consistently control, so if he has done well with a 29", maybe staying with that length and easing him to a heavier bat may be a great option to consider. Ultimately, sizing is preferential, so it will be up to him and what size feels best.

We currently have that size of the 2015 Easton XL1 Senior League -8 Baseball Bat (SL15X18) available. The 2015 XL1 and the 2014 Easton XL1 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14X18) will be very similar in terms of design and performance. The only major differences are mainly cosmetic in nature.

We are not expecting any more shipments of the -5 size of the 2014 version of the XL1. For the 2014 models we only have the 2014 Easton XL1 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14X18) -8 available. We do have the 2015 Easton XL1 Senior League -5 Baseball Bat (SL15X15) available in a -5 size though.

My son is 12 years old. He is 49 inches tall and weighs 81 pounds. Last season he used a 2013 Easton S3 30 inch 20 ounce and I think he can handle a 30 inch 22 ounce model for 12U. Most models of alloy or composite barrel bats like the 2014 Easton XL1 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14X18) or the 2015 DeMarini CF7 Senior League Baseball Bat (DXCFR) will not weigh exactly as listed on the bat as they are weighed earlier in the manufacturing process before grip tape, graphics, and sometimes even the end cap have been added. Different amounts of glue or epoxy used to construct the bat and even adding the knob jewel that lists the weight can cause it to fluctuate to be inaccurate. The idea is that a bat listed as a 30 inch 22 ounce bat will feel similar in weight to other models that size rather than be pin point accurate on the weight.
The XL1 will have a more extended barrel than the CF7 by design. This gives it a bigger sweet spot but also gives it a more end-loaded feel. This will make the XL1 feel heavier than the CF7 and make it more difficult to swing overall. The trade off is that if you can swing it well you may be able to produce more power by focusing the mass of the bat to the hitting area.

The Easton XL1 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14X18) is the 2014 model and it has been discontinued by Easton. The sizes on the website are the only sizes we have left for the bat. If you want a 32" model, you will need to go with the 2015 model. The 2015 model is the 2015 Easton XL1 Senior League -8 Baseball Bat (SL15X18).

Is this bat legal for Senior League division of the Little League association? baseballmom
The Easton XL1 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14X18) is not legal for play in the Senior League Division of Little League. All bats used in the Senior League Division must have the BBCOR certification stamp. The SL14X18 features the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp and is not legal.

No, the Easton XL1 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14X18) is not approved for play in Babe Ruth. Babe Ruth requires all composite barrel bats to be BBCOR certified.
