My son is 7 years old and 52 inches tall. He weighs 85 pounds. He is currently still in coach pitch and will be 8 in a couple months. Right now he uses a 28 inch 16 ounce Easton S300 that is much to small for him. Would you suggest the 29 inch or 30 inch XL1? I feel the 30 inch would be a better fit because he can grow with it, but I'm not sure if the 4 ounce more weight will be too big a jump from what he has now.

Both the 29 inch and 30 inch sizes of the 2014 Easton XL1 Youth Baseball Bat (YB14X1) would be options that would be within the range of what we would expect a player of your son's size to use. It would be a big adjustment in terms of weight and he would have to work at it but with work he should be able to adjust if you are wanting a model that he can grow into for a while.

My son is 8 years old, 4'2" and weighs 50-55 lbs. He is skinny and lean, not much power. He is starting did pitch next year. What model or size would you recommend?

Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 28" bat. The 2014 Easton XL1 Youth Baseball Bat (YB14X1) is best suited for a power hitter with its heavier weight and slightly end loaded design. The 2015 Easton S1 Composite Youth Bat (YB15S1) is a better option for a contact hitter and player his size.

What is the difference between the 2014 and the 2012 XL1. My son is 5'2" and 100lbs. What size would you recommend?

The main difference between the 2014 Easton XL1 and the 2012 model is that composite handle. The 2014 XL1 features Easton's SIC Carbon Composite Technology in the handle to help reduce vibrations. We would recommend a 31" for a player with his height and weight.

Product Description

New for 2014! The next generation of the Easton XL1 Power Brigade has arrived. Now in its third season, this groundbreaking line of bats is unlike anything else on the field today. The concept is simple: Help players hit for power. However, Easton realizes that different players achieve a powerful swing in different ways. That's why the Power Brigade is divided into two distinct series - the XL Series (XL1, XL2, and XL3) and the Speed Series (S1, S2, and S3). The XL Series is designed for bigger, stronger hitters who derive their power from a bat with more mass. Smaller length to weight ratios, and an extra-long barrel with a massive sweet spot and a slight end load characterize the XL Series. The Speed Series, on the other hand, helps players increase their swing speed in order to generate more power. These bats feature lighter length to weight ratios, a lower M.O.I., and a balanced feel. Further trying to equip players with their perfect bat, Easton offers all of its Power Brigade bats in a two-piece IMX Composite/SIC Black Carbon design (XL1, S1), a two-piece THT100 Scandium Alloy/SIC Black Composite hybrid design (XL2, S2), and a one-piece THT Scandium Alloy design (XL3, S3). Two of the highest performing materials ever used on a bat, Easton's patented IMX Composite optimizes the sweet spot for maximum performance, while their THT Scandium Alloy provides solid durability and allows for a larger alloy sweet spot than is seen anywhere else on the field. Throw in an array of additional world-class Easton technology, and you've got a line of bats that can't be topped. Easton: Engineered for Glory! The Easton XL1 is approved for play in Little League, Babe Ruth, Dixie, Pony, AABC, and features the new USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp. It is backed by Easton's Exclusive (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty.
