What is so good about composite bats?

The 2014 Easton XL1 Youth Baseball Bat (YB14X1) features a two-piece fully composite design. Composite bats require a break in period before they will see their top performance, however--once it is properly broken in--it will continue to get more responsive the more that you use the bat and loosen up the composite fibers in the barrel. Technically speaking, composite bats will hold their pop longer than alloy barrel bat, since alloy bats are hottest right out of the wrapper but performance wise, will taper off the more that you use it. Is this bat the same as the 2 5/8 Easton S1 Power Brigade (-10) (SL14S110) Senior League Baseball Bat? My son is 6 years old and is a strong hitter but is not consistent with accuracy. Would you recommend the S1 or XL1?

The biggest difference between these two models is simply going to be the weight distribution and the size of the barrel. The 2014 Easton XL1 Youth Baseball Bat: (YB14X1) features a slight end-load, which generally is preferred by power hitters. It will also incorporate a 2 1/4 inch barrel diameter. Therefore, in order to help improve consistency but still favor his big hitting, I would probably suggest the 2014 Easton S1 Senior League Baseball Bat: ( SL14S110) . The even weight distribution in this model will make it easy for hitters to get around the ball and continually generate a faster bat swing.

Can I use a big barrel in Little League Majors?

For the Majors division of Little League, you will still need to use a 2 1/4" barrel, such as the one featured on the 2014 Easton XL1 Youth Baseball Bat (YB14X1). Big barrel bats will not be legal for play.

Product Description

New for 2014! The next generation of the Easton XL1 Power Brigade has arrived. Now in its third season, this groundbreaking line of bats is unlike anything else on the field today. The concept is simple: Help players hit for power. However, Easton realizes that different players achieve a powerful swing in different ways. That's why the Power Brigade is divided into two distinct series - the XL Series (XL1, XL2, and XL3) and the Speed Series (S1, S2, and S3). The XL Series is designed for bigger, stronger hitters who derive their power from a bat with more mass. Smaller length to weight ratios, and an extra-long barrel with a massive sweet spot and a slight end load characterize the XL Series. The Speed Series, on the other hand, helps players increase their swing speed in order to generate more power. These bats feature lighter length to weight ratios, a lower M.O.I., and a balanced feel. Further trying to equip players with their perfect bat, Easton offers all of its Power Brigade bats in a two-piece IMX Composite/SIC Black Carbon design (XL1, S1), a two-piece THT100 Scandium Alloy/SIC Black Composite hybrid design (XL2, S2), and a one-piece THT Scandium Alloy design (XL3, S3). Two of the highest performing materials ever used on a bat, Easton's patented IMX Composite optimizes the sweet spot for maximum performance, while their THT Scandium Alloy provides solid durability and allows for a larger alloy sweet spot than is seen anywhere else on the field. Throw in an array of additional world-class Easton technology, and you've got a line of bats that can't be topped. Easton: Engineered for Glory! The Easton XL1 is approved for play in Little League, Babe Ruth, Dixie, Pony, AABC, and features the new USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp. It is backed by Easton's Exclusive (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty.
