The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3: (PG3SL105) will require a slight break-in because it incorporates composite material. Generally, what we recommend is around 125-150 swings, rotating the barrel a quarter of an inch each time to help loosen up the material all around the barrel.

My son is going to play 14U which requires a -5 bat in most tournaments, but for Triple Crown it requires a -3. He's 5'4" and 125 lbs. He has previously used a -8 portent this year (30/22). Do you recommend staying with 30" or going to 31" in -5 and -3? I don't see many bats in a 30", -3 of any brand. JDS
Based on his height and weight, it seems like a 31" will be able to fit him just fine. Therefore, I would suggest using a 31" in both models, so that it will be a smoother transition. This size also helps give him a little bit more of a variety in searching for possible bat options. If you are currently looking at the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat: (PG3SL105), this is an excellent choice, and will be top of the line in performance.

Aside from the addition of the Lizard Skin Grip and a new color scheme, COMBAT has not indicated they made any other changes to the design of the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL105) from the 2014 model. Both are well-balanced, offer large sweet spots, and have a seamless one-piece composite design.

How durable is this bat? I have never had a Combat bat and heard of issues in the past. How would you compare this to the Easton XL3? baseballislife
The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL105) has above average durability within the composite bat category. As far as comparing it to the 2015 Easton XL3 Senior League -5 Baseball Bat (SL15X35) aside from them being one-piece designs, the bats would be very different so they would compare differently. The Portent G3 is a balanced composite bat while the XL3 is an end-loaded alloy model. They would be like comparing apples to oranges.

The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL105) is a high performing model that lives up to the 1.15 BPF standard that is imposed for safety. "Pop" is actually more of a term associated with the skill of the player rather than a measurable feature of the bat.

The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip: PG3SL105 & the 2016 COMBAT Porten G4 are going to be similar as far as features go. Both are going to have a 2 5/8" barrel diameter, a single wall construction, and are one-piece composite designs. This particular 2015 COMBAT is a -5 while the 2016 COMBAT comes in -5, -8, -10, and -12 models. In regards to the swing weight, all three of these bats are going to have an exceptionally balanced swing weight. As far as the barrel comparison to the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL110, all three of these models are going to have a 2 5/8" barrel diameter.

Is this bat Legal for Babe Ruth Leagues 13-15 years of age DKP2002
Unfortunately not. The bat would need to be a BBCOR bat, since it is a composite construction. The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 BBCOR Baseball Bat: PG4AB103 would be the option of this bat that would be legal in the Babe Ruth 13-15 year old age division.
