I would not think switching to the 2015 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL15MK10B) will hurt his swing at all. If anything, it will improve his bat speed. Improved bat speed can increase how far the ball is hit. You should feel very comfortable about trying the MAKO out.

However, in terms of balance, all of the Easton MAKO's will have a similar weight distribution, and low MOI. The 2015 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL15MK10B) will not be available in a -5. The MAKO series will feel much more balanced compared to the XL-Series. They will share the same barrel length. If he has great bat speed already the XL-Series should suit him perfectly. If he needs to gain more bat speed I would look toward the new MAKO Torq Series.

The 2015 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL15MK10B), like any composite bat, should not be used in temperatures below 55 degrees. The baseball becomes more dense in the colder temperatures and can cause durability issues with the bat, such as cracking.

The 2015 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL15MK10B) is a two-piece full TCT Thermo Composite. The general rule of thumb with composite bats is that they are not hot right of the box and do require a break in period. I recommend taking 150-200 swings playing soft toss or off a tee using real baseballs. Begin swinging at 40% power and work your way up to full strength as you get closer to 200 swings. It"s also important to rotate the bat ¼' after each swing to ensure that you get complete barrel coverage.

It is not. The 2015 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL15MK10B) is not approved for play in the Junior League division of Little League baseball because of two factors. This bat has a 2 3/4" barrel diameter which is not allowed in Little League baseball play. And this MAKO has a composite barrel. In the division that allow the use of a 2 5/8" barrel diameter, you are not allowed to use a composite model unless it is a BBCOR certified bat. For most players, this restricts you to using big barrel bats with alloy hitting surfaces because BBCOR bats are much heavier with their -3 length to weight ratio.

If you want to use an Easton MAKO bat for your league you would have to use the 2015 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB15MK). Because the MAKO is has a composite barrel the Babe Ruth 13-15 division only allows BBCOR certified bats to have composite barrels. BBCOR bats are all -3.

As a general rule of thumb, we recommend going up an inch and an ounce when sizing up for bats. Since the 2015 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL15MK10B) is a Big Barrel bat and the MAKO that he has used previously was a Youth option, the sizing will truly be preferential. If he is comfortable going up the extra inch as well as the two ounces, the 31" 21 oz. should be ok. If he struggled with the 30" 19 oz. Based on your son's height and weight, I would recommend that he swing a 33" bat. As for the weight, I would base that on how well he currently swings the 22 oz bat. If he swings that well with good bat speed, then he would be able to increase the weight of the bat. The extra ounces in the bat will help put more mass behind the baseball, thus creating more power. I think the 2016 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK10 would be a great option. We typically do not recommend using any bats (alloy or composite) in temperatures less than 60 degrees. However, we understand that in certain parts of the country it is inevitable, so I would just recommend as much limited use as possible on your bat in these temperatures.

My son will turn 8 on May 1st and is 4'2" and roughly 65 lbs. What size bat do you recommend? He normally swings a 28 in Little League, but I was wondering if we should size down for big barrel with less drop. RDC
Based on his height and weight, I would suggest a 28" model in the Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL15MK10B. However, if you feel that his bat speed will slow down or he will not be able to handle the weight then you could certainly drop down an inch.

Based upon your player's height and weight, we would make a general recommendation of getting a Senior League/Youth Big Barrel bat with a 30" length. As long as your player can handle the 20 oz weight, I would recommend either option of the bats being considered in the 30" length. When deciding between the bats you'll need to decide if you want the 2 5/8" barrel on the S1 or the 2 3/4" barrel on this Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL15MK10B). Unfortunately, I would not be able to give the exact measurements on how much longer the barrel length will be on the MAKO, but it will be longer overall when compared to the S1 (bigger barrel length = more sweet spot).

As long as you feel that your player can handle the 17 oz weight of the 27" model, I would recommend that size option of this bat. If your player can handle the size option recommended, then I think this will be an excellent bat for him.

My son is 11 years old, 5'1" and weighs 138 lbs. He has been hitting with your Easton SL14MK10B (30", 20oz) big barrel. Does this bat loose its "pop" after a while? How long do they last? Also, would moving up to the 31/20 be good? BigD
All bats will lose their "pop" at some point but there is no way to determine just how many hits any one particular bat will have in it. Typically, most bats will either dent (alloy) or crack (composite) making it easy on the consumer to know that a new bat is needing to be ordered. As for moving up to a 31/20, based on his height and weight this would be advised for the Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL15MK10B; would only suggest staying with the current 30/20 model if he is having issues getting the barrel head through the zone with the 20 ounce weight.
