Omaha! Trusted forever. Coach Jack Nick parent

Pros: Balanced swing weight. As much pop as BPF 1.15 allows. Great design and artwork. My 12U son is a contact hitter with occasional power, and this bat seems to be doing the trick. As long as he's hitting, he's happy. And, you can't go wrong with the 30 day satisfaction guarantee!

Cons: A little more vibration than my son would prefer . . . but not too much.

Great Bat, but... Fred - Parent/coach coach

Pros: Well balanced and easy to swing. Great graphics. Has some good pop. Being a one piece bat, no complaints about vibration

Cons: My son who plays 12U and is the team's power hitter, dented the bat after 7 at bats?!?!?! The paint also chipped easily on the handle knob. Sent the bat back to Louisville Slugger and got a new one within a week. Will try it out again...hopefully this one will last longer.

Pros: Best bat for the money I've ever bought. Mako move over. Louisville slugger hit a homerun with this one. Great pop and easy to swing. Loved it so much just bought my nine year old a 515 in 2 1/4 also. Great job!!

No Pop Fred - Parent/coach coach

Pros: Nice looking bat, evenly balanced, great feel, solid aluminum construction

Cons: As a followup to my previous review, my son has gotten several hundred swings in on this bat and unfortunately I am sorry to say that he no longer likes it. He said it has significantly less pop then his previous 2012 Omaha bat. I would agree with his feelings. The place where we go for batting practice has a radar. With his 2012 Omaha, he would consistently hit the ball off his bat over 70 mph. With this bat, he has only obtained 70 mph once. I would expect him to be hitting it harder since he has grown and has taken lessons to improve his swing. This has not been the case.

new purchase for all stars harmon coach

Pros: nice grip, balanced swing, durable at the coach pitch level, Louisville Slugger generally has more durable, longer lasting bats

Cons: the ball will not fly off the bat as well as i expected, seems like the walls are too thick, one of the earlier posts mentioned dents, but in kid pitch nearly all aluminum bats will dent..... the trade off is durability vs pop until you decide to go composite-then you can get both

Great bat! M. P. parent

Pros: I got the 30/20 for my son and had to exchanged to for 28/18. My son loves this bat. At Sunday's game I must have seen 4 or 5 kids altogether using either the 15 or 16. It has great pop and it looks great. During the 3 days it took for the exchange bat with new size to be delivered he had to use other kids bats and boy we both could tell the difference. Really, really, great bat! Oh, it also looks great.

Nice bat for the price Juan other

Pros: I bought this for my 8 yr old grandson. At first he struggled with it because it is 2 inches longer and 4 ounces heavier than his old bat. But I can see he's starting to get used to it. His hits have a lot more "pop" and velocity off the bat. A couple of other kids on his team are using his bat as well because they like the way it feels.

Cons: None so far.

Travel team proven Travel Dad parent

Pros: Extremely balanced weighting. Large sweet spot Great pop Durable If your looking for great all around bat this is it. My sons travel team has several kids that have wide range and variety of bats. My son got this bat late in 2014 around Christmas. He has hit combat, demarinni's, Easton's and several others.. None match the combined balance, feel, and pop of this bat. He is still hitting same bat and now 1/2 of his team members have purchased the same bat and others are picking up bat and using instead of their own if they do not have it. The running joke is Louisville slugger ought to be sponsoring this team. To me all key things you look for in your kids bat in competitive ball this bat hits all the marks.

Dents WAY too easily Mitch parent

Pros: Good pop, balanced

Cons: Dents WAY too easily. Bought a 30/20 for my 12U player and a 31/21 for my 13U player. Less than five games into the season, both bats had multiple dents. I bought a second 31/21 because the original one was in the worst shape, and it dented in the first game it was used. It's too bad; if not for the complete lack of durability, this would be a great bat.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLO515X? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is the grip on this bat better than the TPX Omaha XL (SL136XL)? baseball boy
The grip on the 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 (SLO515X) Senior League bat has been redesigned and provides a softer feel than the 2013 Omaha. But it's hard to say which you would prefer.
Mac
Which would be better for a ten year old, a 2 3/4 or 2 5/8 inch barrel? jtcole
Whether you should get a bigger 2 3/4 inch barrel diameter bat or a 2 5/8 inch would be based more on your league's rules rather than the player's age. If they are allowed to use the bigger barrel size, it can be an advantage to have more room for error when trying to square up a pitch.
Patrick
Is this bat the same bat as the 2013 model with only a different paint job? Did anything change? slugger
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 (SLO515X Senior League) will have the same design as the 2013 Louisville Slugger Omaha. The color scheme will be different.
Brandon
What's the difference between the 2014 Assault XL and the 2015 Omaha 515? Looks like both are the same material, so I'm wondering about the $50 price difference. Coach Jack
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLO515X) is going to be the bat that replaced the Louisville Slugger Assault. It does use the same material like you were saying, it is just the newer model.
Cooper
Does this bat have a lot of pop in it? Kindig11
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLO515X) features the same BPF 1.15 performance stamp and is capped in how much "pop" it can offer. But it's a solid bat with a balanced swing weight. That kind of design is typically used very well by many players.
Mac
I am looking for a new bat for my 9u player. He currently swings a 2 5/8" S1, which seems to have no pop. How does this Louisville Slugger compare to the CAT 6? Jared
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLO515X) and the Marucci Cat 6 are comparable in regards to their design. They both have a one-piece alloy design with a balanced swing weight. The Omaha 515 has a 2 3/4" barrel and -10 length to weight ratio. The Cat 6 has a 2 5/8" barrel and a -8 length to weight ratio. Liz
My 9 year old currently swings a TPX Omaha 28/18 and I would like to move up to 29/19. What are the differences between the Omaha 515 and the Louisville Slugger Assault? Which will perform most like his current bat in terms of pop and balance? AB
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLO515X) features a one-piece full alloy model featuring the ST20 alloy. It will additionally offer a balanced swing weight as well as a 30 day performance promise on the bat. The Louisville Slugger Assault Senior League Baseball Bat (SLAS14-RX) also features a one-piece full alloy design with the ST20 alloy. The Omaha 515 actually replaced the Assault, so it is the 2015 model. In terms of performance and balance, they will be very similar and will perform much like his TPX.
Joe
My 8 year old son will be playing a mix of coach pitch along w/ some 9u kid pitch. He is currently swinging a 27/17 Easton. Would you recommend this bat due to him facing live pitching or will the junior model Omaha be an ok choice? Mattw7781
If your son is facing live pitching the 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLO515X) would be a better choice. Junior Big Barrel aren't meant to withstand live pitching.

You could consider alternatively, the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVXR) or the 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLO5150).
Joe

The 13-15 Year old division requires a 2 5/8" barrel diameter. You will want 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLO5150) model for Babe Ruth 13-15.

A couple of boys on my son's team have the YBO515X bat (28), and my son likes it but it feels short. He is 8 years old and 54 inches tall. According to your chart, he should have a 30 inch bat which is not offered. Would this bat - the SLO515X work for him in the coach pitch league? Is there a disadvantage to it? Sarah
The Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLO515X can be used against coach pitching, however you would need to check with your league and make sure that he can use this particular bat. Some coach pitch leagues don't allow bats that have a 2 3/4" barrel diameter.
Angelique
Is this bat legal for Little League 50/70 use? mike
No, the Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLO515X is not legal for play in the 50/70 division of Little League. The SLO516X has a 2 3/4" barrel diameter and you are not able to use a bat with a barrel diameter bigger than 2 5/8" in the 50/70 division.
Jason
My son is 105 lbs, 4'7" and 9 years old. Would this bat be too large for him? josh
Our general recommendation for your son's height and weight is a 30" bat length. The 31" 21 oz. size of the Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLO515X may be a little bit too big for him depending on his personal strength, bat speed, and what he is comfortable swinging.
Angelique
Can this bat come in a 29"/19 oz size? Bman
This Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLO515X) was not made in a 29"/18 oz size. Typically, it is pretty difficult to find bats that have big barrel diameters (2 5/8" - 2 3/4") and a -11 length-to-weight ratio.
Ben
What is the difference between the LS Omaha 515 and the LS Omaha 516? Bob
The differences between the Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLO515X and the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLO516X would be the barrel length (516 will have an extended barrel), alloy used (516 features newer alloy - 7U1), grip tape (516 features Lizard Skins Grip) and balanced feel (due to the 516 have an extended barrel it will feel lighter as well as feature a larger sweet spot).
Cameron
Your Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 at 30in x 2/3/4 (big barrel) weighs how many oz? I see weight on 31 in but not 30 in. Bob
The Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLO515X is a drop 10 and the 30" model is 20 oz. However, this model is discontinued and we no longer have the 30" model available.

No. The Assault XL was a slightly end loaded design, where the Omaha is a balanced design.
Kyle J
Is it the same material as the Assault XL or hotter? Jr
I believe Louisville used the same alloy material for both of these bats, but I do not 100% recall as these models are several years old and nobody carries them new anymore. (NP).

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
