Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Select 715 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLS715X? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Does this bat have to be broken in or rotated every swing prior to game use? Monster810
No. The 2015 Louisville Slugger Select 715 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLS715X) features an alloy barrel that does not require a break-in period. Only composite barrel bats require a break-in process.
Patrick
How does the 2015 Louisville Slugger Select 715 compare to the Vertex XL from 2014 in performance and durability? ScDib
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Select 715 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLS715X) will be designed just like the older Vertex models. They both will feature a composite handle and an alloy barrel. Both will have a very balanced feel and have great durability. Both models will be a very comfortable, high performing choice.

What is the difference between a 715 and 915? My son is 11 years old. He is a big time contact hitter, not a masher. He has a two year old Omaha that has been a great bat. GMoney
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Select 715 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLS715X) is a two-piece hybrid bat. It has a composite handle and an alloy barrel requiring no break-in. The 2015 Louisville Slugger Prime 915 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLP915X) is 100% composite that will require break in. As far as performance, both bats will perform about the same, but the Prime 915 may outperform the Select 715 over time.

Does the Select 715 2 3/4 inch barrel swing any differently than the 2 5/8 inch barrel? Is the 2 5/8 inch more balanced than the 2 3/4 inch? BR
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Select 715 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLS715X) features a two-piece hybrid design with a composite handle and an alloy barrel. It has a slightly end-loaded swing weight. The only difference between the 2 3/4" barrel and the 2 5/8" barrel is that the 2 3/4" provides a larger hitting surface. Other than that, the bats will be virtually identical.

Trying to get the best alloy bat for my son this year. I'm not a fan of composite in the cold weather. In your opinion, which bat is better between the DeMarini Voodoo Overlord and the Select 715? Shawn C
Actually, both the Voodoo OVERLORD and the 2015 Louisville Slugger Select 715 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLS715X) will feel and perform very much the same. I have heard better reviews on the Voodoo OVERLORD for best performance. Again, these bats are very much the same.
Brandon
I am more of a base hit guy. Should I get the Voodoo Paradox or the 715? ryan g
Both the 2015 Louisville Slugger Select 715 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLS715X) and the 2015 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD FT Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVDZ) would be nice options and the preference would ultimately come down to brand preference for you. I will say that both models have a slight end-load to them which would be more commonly used by a power hitter rather than a contact hitter.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
