X12 Joe parent

Pros: None

Cons: This bat is not anything you want. No pop, and sounds terrible when it strikes the ball. I have only seen this bat with 3 or 4 other players and watched their at bat. Just like my daughters. No transfer of energy. I ordered it as it had a greater drop weight to pick up some more bat speed. Ordered a new Xeno now that it is in a drop 11. She went right back to hammering the ball with the Xeno. Do not waste your money on an X12.

No Coach coach

Pros: Girls like the feel of the bat especially the light weight and extra length.

Cons: No pop. I have a couple of girls that bought this bat that are smaller thinking they could get the same results as the regular Xeno. It does not have the pop that they do. I have tried to break them in by using them for batting practice but still can not get the ball out to the outfield very easily. would not recommend this bat for what they are asking for it.

Not a bad bat J.W. coach

Pros: smaller girls generate more bat speed, and better bat control with the -12 drop.Good for developing swings. No bat sting when the ball is hit below the sweet spot. durable composite construction has held up with no sign of cracking. Same material as the Xeno, only thinner and without the s1id barrel technology. bat has good pop when hit on the sweet spot.

Cons: Takes a while to break in,but has decent pop out of the wrapper. Not as much pop as a Xeno, but not expected for the retail price in comparison.

Absolutely No Pop Jim coach

Pros: The X12 has nice balance and looks great.

Cons: This bat has no pop! My daughter plays on a 12u travel team and I bought this bat for her thinking that she would get the benefits of a composite bat without the $300 price tag. Very disappointed! After 2 tournaments, I got her the 2015 Xeno (which is now the same price as the x12) and saw immediate results. The ball jumps off her bat. I would not even recommend the X12 for the weekly rec league player.

Looks nice, not durable Tom parent

Pros: My daughter says the bat feels good to swing and it looks great, but about 30 games into the travel season her coach stopped her while on deck, checked the bat and sent her to get another one. when I got my hands on it and shook, it sounded like a one bean maraca. After working out the warranty situation, we received a new bat pretty quickly. good warranty!

Cons: Problem was...after no more than 100 combined balls soft toss and tee with 6-8 balls with live pitching, the bat has loose stuff shaking around in it. Brand new bat. Not a very durable bat in our experience.

Good Purchase Ed parent

Pros: I ordered these bats for my triplet girls who play 10U softball. So far, the girls like how the bats feel and the contact they are making. The process from order to shipment was simple and quick.

Cons: They have only had them for 2 weeks, so it is hard to know what will happen going forward, but so far so good!

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXL152? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

My daughter has a 2013 Xeno and it is a 33" drop 10. I really wish it came as a drop 12 for a little more bat speed. How does this bat compare to the 2015 Xeno coming out? Why is the Xeno not available as a drop 12? Big O
The 2015 Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXL152) is going to be very similar to the new 2015 Louisville Slugger Xeno's. They both are two piece full composite bats with a balanced swing weight so the two bats are going to be very comparable.
Coper
Is the construction, feel, and sound the same in the X12 as it is in the Xeno? If not, what are the differences? My daughter is smaller and still needs a -12, but likes the pop and sound of the Xeno. Jeff
The 2015 Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXL152) will not feature the same materials and design as the Slugger Xeno. The X12 will not feature the S1iD technology or the iST Technology. They both are composite designs but the X12 will have a different sound when hit.
Brandon
Will this need the typical break-in of composites? KEG
The 2015 Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXL152) will benefit from a break-in period. Typically, taking about 100-150 swings off a tee will suffice in breaking the bat in.
Jason
How does this bat compare to the new Easton FS3 coming out this month? Ted
The 2015 Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXL152) and the 2015 Easton FS3 ZERO Fastpitch Softball Bat (FP15S3) will be very similar in overall design and feel. They are both top of the line composite bats with a -12 length to weight ratio.
Patrick
Is the X12 as good as the slugger XENO? cliff
The 2015 Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXL152) and the Louisville Slugger XENO are equally good bats. However, the XENO is a heavier bat and is designed for older players. The XENO also features S1iD technology which allows for maximum performance from the first swing. The X12 features a -12 length to weight ratio and is designed for younger players looking to increase their bat speed.
Jason
How does this bat compare to a DeMarini CF7? I'm looking for a good bat for a 10U travel softball player that gives pop. MM22
The 2015 Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXL152) and the DeMarini CF7 Fastpitch Softball Bats are very similar. Both bats are two piece composite bats with balanced swing weights. However, the lightest model the CF7 is available in is a -11 Length to Weight Ratio, so the X12 at a -12 Length to Weight Ratio will be lighter.
Tom
My daughter is 4 foot 8 inches and 92 pounds. Which size and bat do you recommend? Mike
Based on your daughters height and weight I recommend getting the 2015 Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXL152) in a 31 inch.
Frankie
My daughter is 5 foot 2 and weighs 85 pounds. She has been told she has a long swing, lacks power, and prefers a light bat. What type of bats would you recommend? john
The 2015 Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXL152) is a very light and balanced model that may fit her style well. Based on height and weight, I would suggest a 31 inch size.
Patrick
My daughter is 5ft and 75 pounds. Lefty bunter and slapper. Currently uses Easton Synergy Composite in a 30 inch 18.5 ounce. What size and brand do you like for her? I was thinking a 31 inch 19 ounce. Not sure. What do you think? will
Based on your daughter's height and weight, we would recommend getting the Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXL152 in a 31 inch 19 ounce model. There are many great bats currently on the market and the correct bat will ultimately be decided by brand preference and price point.
Cameron
Daughter is around 100 lbs and 5'4" tall. What length and weight would you suggest? How about a XENO? Hos
Based upon your player's height and weight, we would make a general recommendation of going with a 32" model of this Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXL152). As long as your player can handle the 20 oz weight of the 32" option of this bat, that size option would be just fine for her. If you wanted to consider a XENO, I would note that the lightest XENOs will come with a -11 length-to-weight ratio. That would make a 32" model of the -11 XENO bat to have a 21 oz weight.
Ben
My daughter is 5'8" and weighs 110 pounds. She has been told she has a long swing. What type of bats would you recommend? Bri
Based upon your daughter's height and weight, I would recommend using 32" Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXL152.
John P.
My daughter is 6 yrs old, 4'1" & 65 lbs. We use a level 5, 11" softball which is a little softer than the bigger 12" balls but not near as spongy as the 10" training balls used for tee ball. What is the best bat & material for this type ball? Josh P.
There is not one bat on the market that will perform better with this type of ball over another. Based on your daughter's height and weight, we would recommend getting a 28 inch model; the lighter the swing weight the better.
Cameron
My daughter is 4'5" and weighs 68 lbs. What size bat would you recommend for her? Cam
For your daughter's height and weight, we recommend a 30" bat length.
Angelique
My daughter is 5 feet tall and weighs 90 pounds. What size do you recommend? Sam
For your daughter's height and weight, we recommend a 31" bat length.
Angelique
Do you have to break in the X12 bat before hitting in the game? James Gilbert
Like any composite bat we would recommend breaking in the Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXL152) before using it. To properly break in your composite bat, we recommend taking 150-200 swings playing soft toss or off a tee using real softballs. Begin swinging at 40% power and work our way up to full strength as you get closer to 200 swings.
Carter
What drop should we have for a girl that is 4'6" tall and weighs 60 lbs? softballgirl15
The "drop" really depends more on the player's age and what they're comfortable with. With the Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXL152 being a -12 (AKA "drop 12"), it is recommend for younger players - generally beginners and up to around 10 or 11 years old.
Marcus

For your daughter's height and weight, we recommend a 28" bat length.
Angelique
My daughter is 13 and 5'2" and weighs 140 pounds. Bat size? KD
Based on your player's height and weight, we would recommend getting the Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXL152 in a 32 inch 20 ounce model. May want to consider going with a drop 10 bat though as a player who is stronger will more than likely break a bat that is too light.
Cameron
Is this bat a drop 10? kenzie softball
The Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXL152 is a drop 12.
Cameron
My daughter is 5'1" and weighs 95 lbs. What length and ounce would she need? Bat

I am 14 and 5'8 and weigh 140. I am currently using my old 33/20 bat and I am looking for a new one. I am looking at this one in 33/21 but will it be too light? I am generally behind the ball so I may not want something too heavy but I want a good amount of power. Suzie Softball
Based on your height and weight and what you have said about your swing I think you would be good with a 33/21 in the Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXL152).
Carter
What does the X12 mean? greg
The "X12" in the product heading of the Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXL152 is used to distinguish this bat in terms of the product as well as length to weight ratio, with the 12 letting customers know that a 30 inch bat will weight 18 ounces. The "X" does not have any special meaning behind it.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
