Description

The team at COMBAT said that "something big" was in the works. But the bat that emerged has pushed through the boundaries of what was even considered possible with a composite bat design! Introducing: the new COMBAT MAXUM! COMBAT has made a name for themselves in the bat industry by consistently delivering bats that offer an extreme combination of a light swing weight and HUGE sweet spot, but the MAXUM takes the crown in both categories. This COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 provides hitters with an almost unfair sweet spot that is 20-40% larger than competitor models! Switching to the MAXSL112 will also result in an average of 38% Swing Weight Reduction! These bats are one-piece composite designs created through advanced Precision Molding Technology (PMT). Unlike typical composite bats that are created by rolling/overlapping layers of material, the PMT process injects liquid resin into seamless high-quality carbon sleeves under extreme pressure. The result is an ultra-consistent product that eliminates seams/weak points that you get with the traditional process. That means that players can rest-assured that the MAXUM will deliver perfectly tuned performance over a longer lifespan. The MAXSL112 carries the USSSA BPF 1.15 Performance Certification mark on its taper, a 2 5/8" barrel diameter, and a full twelve (12) month warranty. COMBAT: Measure Up to MAXUM! Free Shipping!

Jaw Dropping Performance !!! 1HappyDad parent

Pros: Ultra light swing weight very similar to rawlings velo and cf6 with a mako size barrel. It has great pop out of wrapper. Paint is a pearl white with metallic flakes and it looks awesome. My son has had top of the line bats from all the big name companies. This is definately the best bat in my opinion.

Cons: None yet !!! My son has had a couple of combats in the past, so I do not expect to have any durability issues.

CRACK! BATMONGER parent

Pros: DeMarini C7, Nexxum, Voodoo, Easton S1, S2, S3, Mako, Combat G3. My son has used all of these bats in different lengths and swing weights. This bat fit his particular swing the best. It's got a nice big barrel with a huge sweet spot. He is a very thin 5'0" 11 year old. Contact hitter. With this bat he hits consistently and not hits the potential to hit one over the fence. Length and swing weight are vital to fitting any players swing. This one just happens to be the one for my son. The other bats are great as well.

Cons: the G3 had very cool paint/design with the Black and Green. The new Maxum is a little grown-up in cosmetics. If you want a cool looking bat look somewhere else. But as they say about hot rods..."If it don't run...chrome it"

Disappointed Mason parent

Pros: The graphics and paint are sweet. It is well balanced. My son loves the lizard Skins Grip. For a composite bat, I was very surprised that there was no sting whatsoever. 500 day warranty & a 30 day money back guarantee- Awesome! Also, I can't say enough good things about JustBats.com customer service. They are the best! I've bought at least 5 bats from them and will probably continue to do so. That's the good...

Cons: ...Now for the bad. Very pricey for a youth bat. I read all these good reviews on this bat so I thought I'd give it a try. My son plays on a high level select travel team. He's 4'9" and weighs 65 lbs.; not exactly huge. For him, he was still hitting the ball farther with his year old Easton S2, even after breaking it in (250 tee hits, 300 soft toss hits, & 300 overhand hits, all turning the barrel 1/4 turn after every swing.) Pop? It was just OK- just not impressed, especially since it's a $400 bat. My son and myself expected a lot more pop from it. 6 days after using it I noticed a crack in the barrel and what sounded like a small pebble rattling around inside the bat. With it being July 2, so close to the end of the season, I'm not sure I am willing to take another chance on a $400 bat that broke within 6 days . I've always liked Combat Bats, so maybe we'll give them another try next year.

A Contact Hitters bat Hank King coach

Pros: This bat is incredibly balanced. You can hit all day with this bat. Perfect contact hitter bat, balance is so perfect you can adjust in the middle of the swing. It is so crazy light you can go deep just by the speed of your swing. This bat is too light and balanced to be fair against a pitcher.

Cons: The cons are it's pros it is light so you will sacrifice weight velocity on the swing. I would use this bat if I were a contact hitter and hits and OBP were my main job.

Not a great but OK Bat. KMC coach

Pros: Bat is very well balanced and super light. You can put a very good swing with this bat.

Cons: Bat just has no pop. It sounds horrible when hit. As someone who has to buy several Bats a season I was most excited for this Bat. At first all the kids on a 10u Travel Ball team were excited to use it. After the proper break in it was given to the team for use. Game by game it got used less and less to the point it is now never used. It gets skipped over for bats such as 2015 S2 DeMarini Voodoo. It was 400.00 when I purchased but even at 199.00 is a poor deal. I am being as real as I can and giving the experience of a Vey good Travel Ball team.

Pros: The bat has a great feel and the big barrel helps our kids make solid contact. The bat is extremely light and helps our guys generate bat speed. The ball seems to jump off the bat when solid contact is made. So far we love the bat.

Cons: I did not really know how to rate the durability of the bat since the bat has only been used for two weeks.

Kids love it. Coach Tom coach

Pros: The kids like the swing wieght. very very balanced bat. All my kids on average added 2-3 mph on hand speed and 5 mph on bat speed with the zepp sensor on this bat. Kids feel more confident with the bat control and overall the bat has been well recieved by the team with a bunch of them choosing this over their makos and demarinis.

Great for contact hitter Parent/coach parent

Pros: This bat is light weight and balanced. My kid added 5-7 mph average on his Zepp bat speed at impact compared to his old -10 DeMarini. Also noticeable increase in hand speed and time to impact. The hitting surface is a little larger than most other 2-5/8 bats, but no where near as large as the -10 Maxum, which is huge. Easy to handle and a great bat for a contact hitter. Note that I put a 29 inch (-12) Maxum on a calibrated scale and it weighed 18.1.ounces.

Cons: It does not have the pop of the -10 Maxum and the sweet spot is obviously smaller. But that's the trade off for dropping two ounces. Still its pop is similar to other comparable high performance bats, just not noticeably better.

He will be showing out at all-stars! The ball speed coming off this bat definately increases!

Disappointed- Read ALL reviews before buying!! Coach K coach

Pros: As most if the reviews state, this bat has a HUGE barrell! The bat looks great and feels light. my son has other 29" 17oz bats that feel and swing heavier. out of the wrapper, its everything it claims to be. A pro and con is the vibration so inhave it the benefit if the doubt. with the lrge barrell, mishits are few and far between. but on a mishit or an inside pitch off of the handle, the vibrations are bad.

Cons: ZERO pop. in defense of the bat, inthink it is like anything else mass manufactured. i am sure 9 out of 10 off the line are great, and then there is a dud, probably with some hidden flaw. its interesting the reviews are great or awful, nothing in between. sewms to aupport the theory. Took all proper break in technigues, rotating the barrell, 200+ hits etc before thinking about a review. my son has the DeMarini Voodoo youth and the Easton Mako Youth (we went to a big barrell because he made a travel team that allows them). The ball jumos off of both if those bats. with the Combat, it sounds like a dull thump and there is ZERO pop. i am going to retun it for a replacement and hope there is no hassle.

Short in stature, Big in Hitting Xfactr parent

Pros: My son has three Combat Bats, The Portent G3 29/17 2 5/8. The Maxum SL110 30/20. and the Maxum SL112 30/18. My son just turned 11 and is about 4'6" 75lbs. I bought both Maxums at drop 11 and 10 and he's liking the feel of the bat and how the ball "jumps". Not one of the bigger kids on his 10U team. But since he has switched from Demarini to the Combat line he's noticed the ball jumping off the bat, especially with the Maxum's. The bat has a nice big sweet spot and has not mentioned any problems with vibration. This boy loves his new bat!

Pros: My son loved this bat while it worked. Great warranty.

Cons: Within the first year, the bat cracked. It was fully replaced with a new one which was great, but now you no longer have a warranty. Within 10 months, the new bat cracks again...even worse than the first time. This bat is too expensive not be more durable.

Both the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) and the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) have 2 5/8" barrels.

Would you buy this bat for an 8 year old? Money Bags
Yes, the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) would be a great bat for an eight year old.
Frankie
Is this Pinto Pony League approved? The barrel size seems fine, but I don't want to spend this much if my son can't use it. Jg
The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) features a 2 5/8" barrel and has the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp. These features make it legal for play in the Pinto division of Pony.
Jason
What is the difference in barrel length between the 2016 Combat Maxum -12 Senior League baseball and the 2015 Combat Portent G3? daddyg
The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senor League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) is approximately 2" longer than the COMBAT Portent G3.
John
How does this bat compare to the 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT152? Chad
The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) will be similarly weighted and have a balanced feel like the 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) but it will have a longer barrel for a bigger sweet spot.
Patrick
These bats are on eBay for $299.99. Will you guys match that price? They say they're an authorized dealer, and it comes with a receipt. Ok Ball Coacg
I apologize, the price we are selling the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) at is set by the manufacturer, so we are unable to match the Ebay price.
Chinyere
Does this bat require a break in period or is it hot out of the wrapper? Pop Pop
The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) features a composite barrel, so it will require a break in process. Here is a link to how we recommend getting the MAXUM broken in: http://goo.gl/U0cQdH
Tessa
What bat size for an 8 1/2 year old who is 51 inches tall and weighs 65 pounds? hwied
Based on height and weight, we would recommend a 28 inch size of the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112).
Patrick
What age do you recommend moving from a -12 drop to a -10 drop big barrel 2 5/8 bat? hwied
It really depends on the hitter. There are only two Senior League bats that are a -12, so most players actually start out with a -10. As soon as the player feels comfortable with a -12 I would up to a -10.
Damon
My 6 year old swings a 27 inch 15 ounce Easton Mako. Would you recommend the same size in the Combat Maxum? mike
If your son is comfortable with the 27 inch and 15 ounce bat, I recommend getting the same dimensions in the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112)
Frankie
What age can you use this bat to? Cole
The age that can use the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) would vary based on league rules. There is no set age for use of this model.
Patrick
What's the difference between this and last years COMBAT -12? rick
The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) would have to be compared to the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard as there wasn't a 2015 model of the Combat MAXUM. The differences between the MAXUM compared to the Portent G3 would be the MAXUM having a 500 day manufacturer's warranty, 30 day no risk guarantee, 20 - 40% more hitting surface and up to 38% swing weight reduction on average.
Cameron
My son is 8, 4'6" and 93 lbs. We are looking at a 30" bat. Would a -12 or -10 be best for him? lo lo
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of a 30" bat as well. I would make a weight recommendation based off the size of bat he swung last year. If he swung a bat at 17 oz or lower, go with this -12 model of the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112). If he swung a bat with a weight of 18 oz or more, I would recommend recommend the -10 model of the MAXUM.
Ben
My son is 12, 5'4". He's just moving up to a 50-70 team and we are looking for a big barrel bat. I know nothing about bats. Last year he used a Easton 30" and 19 oz. Not sure what to look for. Does this sound like a good switch and is it Little League approved? Kris
The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 would not be approved for use in the Intermediate (50/70) Little League division as this bat features a composite barrel and is not BBCOR certified (drop 3). What you need is an alloy barrel bat and it can be any drop with a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter. To get a better idea on the right size, please refer to our bat coach at: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Cameron
I have narrowed it down to two bats. This one or the Rawlings VELO (-12). My son is 7 years old, 52" inches tall and weighs 65 lbs. He is using an S2 at 28" now and has extremely fast bat speed. Was wondering which one you would recommend? Bo
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would recommend going with a Youth Big Barrel bat in the 28" length. In regard to customer reviews left at JustBats, I would recommend getting this 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) over the VELO. As long as your player can handle the 16 oz weight of the 28" model of this bat, I would recommend that size.
Ben
What is the best way to break this in for a seven year old? Bo
The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 is pretty hot out of the wrapper and it does not require much a of a break-in period. It would be best to have them take about 50 swings off a tee. You will want to rotate the barrel about a quarter turn every few swings.
Jason
Is my son able to use this bat in Dixie Youth? Baseballmom
The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 would only be approved for use in the "O"Zone division of Dixie Youth League Baseball.
Nick
My son is 9 and has a Rawlings -10. He's a little late when swinging this bat. His coach said he may need a -12. What do you think and what bat should I go with? tony
If you son has a late swing with a drop model then it would be wise to consider lessening the weight of his bat. A drop 12 model would be a good one to consider. With the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 you will find a very balanced bat that should help improve both bat speed and top hand strength. Due to not being able to analyze your son's swing we would defer to his local coaches and their opinion on the matter.
Cameron
My son is 9 and weighs 65 lbs and currently has a orange MAKO 28 inch drop -10. Which COMBAT would you recommend? John
The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 is a very balanced bat, much like the Easton MAKO. If you are looking to determine if you need to increase the length of his bat we would recommend using our bat coach feature: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/ As for the weight, when you are looking into this consider the weight of his current bat and how well he can get this bat through the zone. Beneficial to consult with local coach to determine if weight needs to be increased, stay the same or go down.
Cameron
My son is 5, 50 lbs & 4 ft tall. Average to above average swing speed. Currently swings a 26in/14oz. He is currently in t ball transitioning to coach pitch. What size would you recommend? dn
I would recommend getting a 27" bat. The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 in a length of 27 inches and 15 ounces would be a great option for your son.
Carter
Is this bat allowed in Pony? Jerry
Yes, the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 would be approved for use in Pony League baseball up to the Colt division.
Nick
My son is 10 years old, 4'10", and 145 pounds. He has a stocky build and is pretty strong. He currently uses a Combat Wanted 31/21 and a Voodoo 31/20. What size Maxum would you recommend? Would a drop in weight be better for his size? Big Papi
Based on your son's height and weight, I would recommend that he swing a 31" length. Dropping in weight would help increase his bat speed. However, you sacrifice a little power by having less mass in the barrel. If he is not lacking in bat speed with the 21 oz. bat, then I would recommend he swing the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL110 model of the Combat Maxum.
Nick
My child is 4'5", 60 lbs and 8 yrs old. He usually swings the DeMarini CF8 26"/14 oz, but we need a 2 5/8" bat to be legal for All Stars. What do you suggest (I think he could use an inch longer and heavier)? Rigby
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would recommend getting an larger option of bat. This 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) would be an excellent option of bat as the reviews have been pretty solid. I would recommend a 27"/15 oz size or 28"/16 oz size as long as he can handle the weight (I don't think the length will affect him at all with either option).
Ben
I have a 4'7" 95 pound 11 year old. We are looking for a big barrel 2 5/8 for challenge ball. What length/weight would you recommend for him? leggleston
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 in a 30 inch 18 ounce model.
Cameron
My son is 5' and 110 lbs. We are looking for a 2 5/8" bat. We want a bat that will last a couple of years. What length/size do you recommend (31"/19 oz or 32"/20 oz)? Floyd-O
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general length suggestion of 30" for a Senior League/Youth Big Barrel baseball bat. Either size option that you are considering should be able to allow some room for growth. However, I would recommend getting the 31"/19 oz size of this 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) if you wanted to get an option that could be used most effectively at the outset.
Ben
My son is 10 and weighs 75 pounds. He is about 4' 10" tall. Should he use a drop 10 or a drop 12? 30 inch? rdogg27
I would probably recommend a 30" 18oz (-12) of the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112. But if you feel that might be a little bit light he could probably get away with swinging a -10 too.
Carter
My son is 10 and is 4'11" and weighs 145 pounds. He has a stocky build and is fairly strong. He currently uses a 30/20 Louisville 515. His swing speed is slow compared to his strength. Would a drop 12 be a better alternative for him? Given his size your bat coach recommends a 31 inch bat. alumiu
If your sons swing is a little bit slow with that 30/20 I would recommend getting a 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 to get that extra length while still having a good swing weight.
Carter
Can the Senior League MAXSL112 (2 5/8") be used in Pony league (Mustang)? RJ's Dad
Yes, the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 features a 2 5/8" barrel diameter and the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp. These features make it legal for the Mustang division of Pony.
Jason
My son is going to be 9. Has played travel ball for 2 years and starting fall travel ball. He is a little guy only 4 foot tall and weighs about 55 pounds. My thought is to get him a 28" drop 12 and let him grow into a little bit or should I get him a 27? Thoughts? CamsDad
Based on your sons height and weight we would recommend getting a 27" 15 oz 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112. But ultimately you know your son better than any chart so if you think he can handle the 28" 16 oz then feel free to get that. But based on what we know we would recommend the 27" version of this bat.
Carter
Is this bat legal for tee ball? rodney
If your Tee Ball League allows use of 2 5/8" barrel diameter bats, then this 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) should be legal for use in your league. To get the exact specifications for bats that are legal for use, I would recommend reaching out to a coach or league official.
Ben
My son is currently using a CAT 6 25" 15 oz. Would the Combat 26" 14 oz. be a good bat for him? Pete
The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) is going to be an excellent bat. My only concern is that you would be going from a drop -10 bat to a lighter drop -12. Unless his bat speeds need to pick up I would not recommend moving to a 2 oz. lighter bat.
Jake
My son is 9 years old, is 4'3" and 78 lbs. I ordered a 29"/17 oz bat. Should I have ordered 28"/16 oz size instead? baseball
Based upon your player's height and weight, we would make a general recommendation of getting this 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) in a 28" length. That being said, If you wanted a model into which your player can grow, I bet that the 29"/17 oz would be the best option as the longer length and higher weight would give your player something to which he can work as he gets bigger.
Ben
My son is 4'7" and 60 lbs. We are trying to decide if he needs to step up to the 29/17 or stay with the 28/16. He's currently using 28/18 but has moved up to coach pitch this fall. Which bat would you guys recommend? bones
Based on your son's height and weight we would go ahead and recommend a 29"/17oz bat. With that being said that is a generalization and if your son wanted to stay with a 28"/16oz bat that is all personal preference and he could definitely do that. I would recommend the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) for your son. It is a very quality bat.
Carter
My son is 7 years old, 52 pounds and 50 inches tall. Which size bat would you recommend? Is there an advantage of the 2017 bat? robin
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting a 28 inch bat. As for the weight of the bat, that is going to be determined more by what the player is currently using and how well they are able to handle the weight. The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 and the 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7MX112 are very similar bats minus the colorway. In an effort to save money, the 2016 would make a better option. The 2017 model does feature the 30 day guarantee though so that is what you would need to consider as well.
Cameron
(1) What is the swing MOI compared to the -12 MAKO? (2) Also, is the 28"/16 oz actual weight 16 oz or around 17 oz? beaniedemon
(1) Both this 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) and the -12 MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB16MK12B) will feel just about the same when swung (the MOI's for both bats should be very similar). (2) COMBAT's are pretty true to their weights. If this bat were to weigh over that amount it would only be over by a 1/2 ounce or so.
Ben
My son is 5" tall and 98 lbs. He has been using a MAKO and doing well. He will be playing in 11U and wants a 2 5/8" barrel bat. His coach suggested a 2015 COMBAT (PG4SL210) in the 30"/20 oz size. What are your thoughts? SEAN
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting a Youth Big Barrel bat in the 30" length. If you feel that the 18 oz weight will be most optimal for your player, then I would recommend getting this 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) in the 30"/18 oz size. As well, I think that the PG4SL210 could be used as well (but it will have a 2 3/4" barrel diameter) as long as you felt that a move to a bat with a 20 oz weight is a manageable transition (it will provide more of an adjustment period for your player).
Ben
How does this bat rate as far as sting? My son has a MAKO Junior 27/15 right now. I want to get him a 28" and prefer a -12, but there aren't a lot of -12 options in a 2-piece. Would the sting on this be improved with the bigger sweet spot? Considering this or the -10 Easton sl16s210. He's 8 playing USSA. Mike B
One piece bats like the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 generally will not offer the same vibration reduction as these bats will not flex on impact like their two-piece counterparts. Within the -12 market, there are not many manufacturers producing these bats as -10 will be the more common size players use. The 2016 Easton S2 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16S210 meanwhile would offer the better vibration reduction as it is a two-piece bat but will be a -10.
Cameron
Is there a warranty for the Combat Maxum bats since the company is going out of business? criscrosio
Yes, the COMBAT MAXUM and other bats from COMBAT will still feature a manufacturer's warranty as of 12/28/16.
Cameron
My son is 48" tall and weighs 60 lbs. He is currently using a 26"/14 oz bat (2 3/4" MAKO). What size should he get in the 2 5/8" COMBAT for league ball? logan
Based upon your player's current height and weight, I almost think that he may be able to handle the 27"/15 oz size of this 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112). However, if you would like to get this MAXUM in the same size as his MAKO, I think the 26"/14 oz size would be just fine as well.
Ben
My son is 4'8" and 70 lbs. The size chart says to get a 30/20 bat but I was curious on why would you not get a 32/20 giving him 2 more inches with the same weight? Still trying to figure all of these sizes out. LandonsDad
A 32 inch bat would be better for a player who is over 5 foot tall. Although the weight would not be different a bat that is two more inches than what the player ideally needs can still cause issues. The main issue would be plate coverage in the terms of where they stand in the batter's box. Can also see some barrel head issues with respect to the barrel dropping through the swing.
Cameron
My son is 12 years old, 4'10" and 70 lbs. He has been using a 29"/17 oz bat, but it is small. We want to stay in the -12 area. What bat would you recommend? What would you guys think would be the best length-to-weight ratio for him? bball mom
At 12 years, I might recommend maybe considering a move from the -12 length-to-weight ratio to the -10 length-to-weight ratio. The reason I would recommend the change is because as your player gets closer to high school, he will need to increase the weight on his bats so that he can swing the -3 BBCOR .50 bats that are required in high school. However, if you really feel that the -12 size will best benefit him, you can certainly get a bat of that size. I would recommend a 30"/18 oz bat in that case. Sadly, we do not have this 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112) in the 30"/18 oz size any longer. I might consider moving to the 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL7MX112) which is available in that size.
Ben
I bought my son a DeMarini CF8 29/17 but he seems to drag the bat a little. Would a COMBAT MAXUM -12 or a Louisville Catalyst -12 have a faster swing and bigger sweet spot? Which one? amy
All three would have similar swing weights, but the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 would have the largest sweet spot.
Logan
What is the difference between the 2016 and 2017 model? amy
This 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL7MX112) will display all the same features as the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (MAXSL112). The biggest difference between the bats is going to be the cosmetics.
Sean
What is the best way to break this bat in? porterhouse
For composite bats we recommend 150-200 swings off a tee or soft toss, rotating the bat to ensure an even break-in all around the barrel.
Kyle J.
My son is 13 and 170 lbs. Do you think this is a good weight or go to minus 3? bigpun72
The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 would not be a good bat for a 13 year old. For a player of that age we would recommend a -8 model like the 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -8 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7MX108.
Cameron
My son will turn 9 in 4 months, he is 4 ft 7 inches tall and weighs 108 lbs. Is this the right bat for him? If so, what length? baseball dad
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 in a 30 inch model. This bat is a -12 length to weight ratio bat and for a player that is 9 this would be an optimal size to consider to allow for bat speed as well as barrel control.
Cameron
Is it Cal Ripken or Little League approved? jose
Little League and Cal Ripken typically require the use of a 2 1/4" barrel, so the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 would not be approved.
Logan
Why is the 2016 MAXSL112 $199 and the newer 2017 model SL7MX112 is $149. What is the difference between the two. My son is turning 11 and is 87 lbs about 54" tall. I am thinking the 29/17 for him Joe
We do offer bats at different prices because of many different reasons. I would look at going with a bit bigger size for your son maybe a 30'' 20 oz. The 2016 Combat Maxum -10 might be a better choice than the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112
Max
My son is playing in a travel league and needs a big barrel bat. He is 11 but very small for his age - weighs 60 lbs and is 52." We tried a Mako 29 inch -10 but it seemed too heavy for him. Would this bat be a better fit for him? He needs all the help he can get in power when hitting the ball. Mo
If your player is having trouble swinging a -10, the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL112 would be a great option. The Combat Maxum is a well balanced, light swinging bat.
