Description

For those players that love COMBAT - the Portent G4 fits right in with all of their classic, limit-testing one-piece composite designs. For those of you that have never experienced the COMBAT difference, here is what you can expect: a swing weight that is right on point, and a sweet spot that's almost not even fair. It all starts with COMBAT's exclusive Precision Molding and Seamless Construction technologies! Precision Molding Technology means outer and inner barrel diameters are created with computer-controlled tooling for accuracy and precision control. This results in the optimized performance and the Seamless Construction extends the durability of this top of the line bat. If you didn't know just from seeing "COMBAT" on the barrel, this combo gives you one of the biggest sweet spots in the Youth bat market. The 100% composite, one-piece Portent utilizes COMBAT's single wall construction with Variable Stiffness profile. This calculated inner-wall profile allows the barrel walls to reach optimal compression on contact to maximize trampoline effect and distance on every swing. And the traditional one-piece design provides essential feedback, so you'll know when you've squared-one up or just missed the chance for a 4-base trot. Plus, the new Portent G4 features the extremely popular Ultra-Premium Lizard Skin grip! This elite-level composite bat is perfect for a wide range of hitters and experience levels with it's extremely balanced swing weight and stiff flex on contact.

COMBAT: "Limits Set, Limits Broken!" The Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB110 is Approved for Play in Little League, Babe Ruth, Dixie, Pony, AABC, and USSSA. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Best intermediate bat Leo N. coach

Pros: Got a replacement for the Sluggers' 30in, since it was a tad too long for some of the players. Can't say anything poor about it. Breaking in time: less than 800 hard impacts. Some suggested rolling, but I was against it. It was broken in within a few practice sessions. Now, the balls pop right off the bat. Side-by-side comparison to the Sluggers' Catalyst and the Easton's Mako by our players, this bat beats both in the break-in amount, and on par with the Mako. Durability: on par with best bats. Our players have power hitters that fell in love with the bat. They dropped the Mako and Catalysts, and went for this instead. No matter the amount of pounding and tossing around, this bat barely have any scratch on it. No dent to speak of as of yet. It already has over 3500 hits on it. Vibration: whether or not we're used to the heavy vibration from aluminum, the players could tell the great different between the aluminum, hybrids, and composites.

Cons: Vibration: although the vibration is greatly dampened, rookies still don't like the stinging sensation from a heavy batting session. Of course, they complained about pretty much everything. We changed to the Buzz Off grip, and no more complaint. Grip: Some complained about being slippery when using bare hands after 5 minutes, some said it had an odd sticky feeling. We changed to Buzz Off grip, and you guess it, no more complaint.

combat g4 Tony Kessler coach

Pros: Just received this bat in the mail, so my ratings are neutral, however, I was very impressed when I got this bat out of the box. My first reaction was to read the bat and make sure the word baseball was on it, and didn't order a softball bat, I could tell it had a longer barrel by the pics, but was more surprised at it's length once I opened it. Immediately hit the cages with my son this evening, got about 100 hits on it, seemed to have pretty good pop and speed off of it, time will tell, once broke in and in an open field.

great feel albert parent

Pros: great bat, my son(10 years old) loves the feel of the bat. he was 20 feet short of his his first grandslam (homerun) last week. he didn't complain about any vibration at all during the game. he doesn't want to use it during batting practice at the cages because he likes to use his wood bat for that and he doesnt want to "mess up" his combat bat.

Cons: none

Can't Beat It for the $$$ Coach Cap coach

Pros: Just picked this bat up after researching why it was so cheap. It looks like Combat is done as a company but not because the bats are bad. My son is 12 and is 5'5" 140lbs. Big strong boy and his swing is on the long side and he has struggled with the end loaded bats over the last couple of seasons. he's a contact hitter and loves the even weight distribution of the Combat. His biggest comment to me was that it feels lighter than the 31" 19oz" DeMarini that he's used to swinging. This weekend we put the bat through it's paces and over a two day period broke it in with about 400 soft toss hits into a screen. Yesterday I pitched to him as I would like a normal BP session and he was driving everything into right field on a rope(lefty) and hit the fence on the hop a few times with garbage balls really. This is a great bat for contact line drive hitters. I probably should buy a spare as the company is no longer around and I read that Easton bought the rights and will charge big $.

Cons: If it breaks I'm not sure what the warranty will be like seeing the company doesn't exist but at $50 it's not a break the bank investment. The jury is still out on how my power hitters hit with this. My son is a contact hitter that sprays line drives and he loves it so far.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB110? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

I just purchased this bat for my son. Why was this bat discontinued? Ben
The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB110 is sold out and COMBAT is no longer making this bat which is why it is discontinued.
John P.
Would you confirm that the balance of this drop 10 bat is comparable to the balance of the drop 12? Or is this bat more end loaded? Rod
The balanced swing weight of the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB110 is going to be identical to the balanced swing weight of the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112.
Nick
What is the drop 12 or drop 10? What does this measure? zach
The drop measures the difference between the length of the bat and the weight of the bat. The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB110 is a drop 10. For example a 30" model in this bat would be 20 oz. The 30" length minus the -10 drop gets you the 20 oz. A 30" bat with a drop 12 would be 18 oz. The bigger the drop the lighter the bat.
Jason
My son is 9 1/2 years old, average build, and plays Little League as well as travel ball. He is swinging an Easton S500C which is 29" and -12. I am looking ahead to next year and considering the -10 Combat Portent in a 30" length. Is that an appropriate length and drop for an average sized 10 year old with a strong swing? How would this bat compare in performance to the S500C and the Combat Maxum? Is the Portent true to the advertised weight like the Combat Maxum? Badger#5
Based upon your player's current age (and after his 10 year old birthday), I would make a general recommendation of going with a 30" youth bat (2 1/4" barrel diameter). This 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB110) is available in the 30"/20 oz size. As long as your player can handle the 20 oz weight of the 30" model, I would recommend this bat in that size option.
Ben
What is the best way to break-in this Combat? Cassie
The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB110 is pretty hot out of the wrapper, but a short break-in period will benefit the bat. It is best to take about 50-100 swings off a tee. You will want to gradually work your swing speed up from 50% to 100% while rotating the barrel a quarter turn every few swings.
Jason
Narrowed down our selection to the "COMBAT" brand for my 8 yr old Pinto level son. You have MAXUM or Portent models available with the MAXUM being nearly double the price of a comparable Portent. What are the main differences between the two models? What would we be getting if we decided to go with the more pricey MAXUM line of bats? Trying to decide if it's worth it. Orlo
The main difference between the COMBAT MAXUM and Portent line is the balance and sweet spot. The MAXUM will be more evenly balanced and feature a larger hitting surface/sweet spot when compared to the Portent. Both are exceptional bats.
Cameron
I have a 6 year old son that is playing in all-stars he is currently using a 27" 15 oz alumn. bat made by Easton. A few of his teammates have composite bats and he has used them a few times and has hit great with them. I just purchased a this bat in a 27" 17 oz do you think that is a great buy. Smitty
Yes the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB110 is a good performing all composite bat and I think that your son will very much enjoy it.
Carter
My son is moving up to 9-10s in Little League. How can I determine if the bat will still meet the specifications when the new bat rules go into effect? Jas
When the new USA Bat certification begins in 2018, this 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB110) will not be permitted for use in the 9-10 year old division of Little League as it does not feature the USA Bat stamp on it. However, through the 2017 season, this bat should be legal for use within the 9-10 year old division.
Ben
My son cannot use a bat that has the BESR label on it. Does this bat have that certification? Dad
The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB110 does not feature a BESR stamp. This bat is USSSA certified with a bat performance factor of 1.15.
Angelique
I have narrowed it down to the Portent G4 and the Louisville Slugger Prime 916 drop -12 for my son. He is 12 around 5'1" and near 90 lbs. He is more of a contact hitter. Which bat do you suggest? Mom
The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB110) and the Prime 916 are both excellent options and you couldn't go wrong with either one. The Portent will be stiffer one-piece, whereas the 916 is going to be two-piece composite that will have a bit of flex to it.
Jake
What's the difference between the G3 and G4? zdeason
The 2016 Combat Portent G4 (PG4YB110) is a youth model bat with a 2 1/4" barrel diameter, while the Combat Portent G3 Senior League Bat (PG3SL210) is a youth bat with a 2 3/4" barrel diameter.
Kyle J.
I just purchased this bat and am wondering if there is a break-in period with it. Toby VanWormer
Yes, To properly break in the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB110), we recommend taking 150-200 swings playing soft toss or off a tee using real baseballs. Begin swinging at 40% power and work our way up to full strength as you get closer to 200 swings.
Carter
My son turns 8 this month, weighs 57 pounds and is 50" tall. What size bat do you recommend? I'd like something he can use for 2 seasons as he continues to grow and am leaning towards 29" I would appreciate any advice you can offer. batman
Based on your sons height and weight we would recommend a 28" 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB110). But if you did want to use it for a couple years it wouldn't be a bad idea to go up to a 29".
Carter
Is this bat considered a big barrel? Cindy
The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB110 features a 2 1/4" barrel diameter and it is not considered a big barrel.
Jason
Can this bat be used in Cal Ripken tournaments? Casey Lear
From what I understand, eligible bats in Cal Ripken tournaments must have a 2 1/4" barrel diameter, and must not exceed 33" in length, so the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB110 would be legal in a Cal Ripken Tournament.
Logan
So did you mention that this bat will not be acceptable in Little League next year (2018)? My son will be 10 in a couple of months, so 11 in 2018. Karen
This bat, the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB110, and all other Youth model bats will no longer be allowed for use starting in 2018 as the youth bats will have to feature the new USABat stamp (bats will be closer to BBCOR bats that high school and college players use in terms of barrel thickness).
Cameron
Would this bat be considered a power hitting bat or a contact hitting bat? wes
The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB110) is a balanced bat which contact hitters typically prefer. But that does not mean you cannot hit for power with balanced bats, it really just comes down to the players personal preference whether or not they like balanced or end loaded bats.
