Description

For 2016, Easton has brought the most expansive line of power and performance to the market with the all-new Power Brigade Series!

TCT Thermo Composite Technology is the key to the MAKO's industry-leading swing speed, massive sweet spot, and pure feel on contact. This innovative material comprises both the barrel and handle which are united by Easton's patented 2-PC ConneXion Technology. By isolating the handle from the barrel with the connection joint, energy transfer is maximized while simultaneously eliminating any unwanted vibration. The MAKO's foundation is then optimized with one of the lightest swing weights on the market.

The MAKO features a 2 1/4" barrel diameter, -12 length to weight ratio, new HYPERSKIN Performance Grip, and is Approved for Play in Little League, Babe Ruth, Dixie, Pony, AABC and USSSA. QC and Durability Issues Jason coach

Pros: The bat is great feel, has nice pop, lots of bounce.

Cons: The finish is horrible and will chip when you just look at it. For 280.00 bucks, this should have a finish that is more durable. When hitting 2 regulation leather little league balls, the paint smeared off and my paint is tacky. Now i have to open up a claim with Easton to get it replaced. The bat is 4 days old. Total waste of time and money. If you want a bat that is going to last longer then 2 hits before the paint peels off, go with another bat. if you don't care if your new 280.00 bat is going to smear off the paint, then get this one.

Home Run Wand Lucky Dad parent

Pros: The best balanced bat with the biggest pop. This is an amazing bat that lives up to the hype. Get the right size and let them swing away. My son has been through several other brands of composite bats and always resisted the Mako. After picking up this bat, his swing has gotten much better and his hits are farther. The bat has helped.

Cons: Like all composite bats, use it on baseballs only. Not made of glass, but not for smashing rocks and light poles and dugout floors...

Greatest Bat Ever!!!!! Brettsticks07 coach

Pros: POP...POP....and more POP. My smallest on the team, 72lb 11 year old son is hitting this one to the fence on regular basis. Breaks in nicely just do it the right way. We probably hit 125 balls off of a tee first rotating the bat a quarter of an inch at a time with the first 75 or so at about 50 percent before gradually moving up to 100 percent power on the swings, then another 80 soft toss pitches from the side still rotating. We then hit about another 40 or so doing soft toss from the front. My son has easily gained 20 plus feet over his 2015 Mako Torq.

Cons: Absolutely none yet but only used in about six games.

Light Is Right Jim parent

Pros: Outstanding pop for such a light bat. Aided swing speed for my 12 year old who hit his first homer with it. it. If your player is struggling at point of contact--missing the the breaking or off-speed stuff, or behind the fastball, go a little lighter with this -12 Mako.

Cons: Barrel is shorter than his Orange -11 Mako. But difference in bat control for soft/breaking pitches in pitcher's counts and swing speed to handle the fastball is wort it.

Good bat, but not a a miracle bat John parent

Pros: Nice bat with much less sting than an alloy bat. Your kid still needs to do the work. The ball may travel a little further but they still need to hit the ball.

Cons: We were hoping the bat would actually be 16 oz. as advertised since my son is small for his age and needs a lighter bat head. It is 18.5 oz, not 16.oz. He loves it though. It's a shame it won't be legal next year in LL.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

What is the difference between the -12 and the -11? alex
The drop weight would be the only major difference between the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB16MK12) and the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB16MK11). The -12 may have a bit less barrel mass explaining the lighter weight.
Patrick
My son just turned 9. He is 4 1/2 feet tall and weighs 65 pounds. He uses a 2015 Easton S1 29 inch 13 drop. He has used the same size bat for the past two years. he is a contact hitter and sprays the ball to all fields. What size and drop weight do you recommend in the 2016 Mako? Dad
Based on height and weight, we would still recommend sticking with the 29 inch length in the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB16MK12) or possibly going to the -11 version of that bat which would be the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB16MK11).
Patrick
Can you tell me the difference between the orange Mako and the green? I am looking to buy one for my 10 year old son and want to make sure I get the right one. bry
It would depend on the specific model you are asking about. Last year the green and orange MAKO bats had different technology in the handle. If you are talking about the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB16MK12) versus the 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK) the major difference would be the drop weight. The new green model comes in a -12 which is a bit lighter than what was available last year.
Patrick
My son is 10 1/2 years old. He is 5 foot 1 and about 86 pounds. He plays league and travel ball. Would a 30 inch 18 ounce Mako suit him in your opinion? O
The 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB16MK12) would be a great option and that size would be a great fit for him.
Patrick
Do the 2016 mako bats need to be rolled or broken-in? Is a 9 year old capable of doing this? What is the best way to break-in the bat to reach maximum pop? tbone
Rolling composite bats like the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB16MK12) is illegal for play and can void the manufacturers warranty. While the newer composite bats do not technically require a break-in period to perform, they can benefit from one. We recommend about 100 swings or so of soft toss or tee work starting at about 50% power and gradually working up to 100. During this hitting, you will want to rotate the bat a quarter turn every hit to ensure all sides of the barrel are getting used.
Patrick
Comparing the same lengths, is the sweet spot of the MAKO -12 significantly bigger than the S2? DSF
The sweet spot on the 2016 Easton S2 Youth Baseball Bat (YB16S213) will be smaller than the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB16MK12). Whether the difference is significant would be a matter of opinion but the surface area of the sweet spot would be larger on the MAKO.
Patrick
Hi. My son is about 4' 11" tall and 80 lbs. What is the recommended bat size? KB
Based upon your son's height and weight, I would recommend a 30" 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12.
John P.
What is the difference in the barrel length (barrel only) of the -12 or the -11 MAKO bats? MR
There is no barrel length difference in the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12 compared to the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK11. Only difference is going to be that these two bats are going to feature different weight in the barrel, with the heavier bat (drop 11) having a slight edge in producing more power.

My son is 5'2.5" and 114 pounds. What size bat does he need? bat
Based upon your son's height and weight, I would recommend using a 31" 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12.
John P.
My son is 5'0" tall and weighs 90 lbs. What do you recommend for bat size? S
For a player of his size, I'd recommend going with the 30" model of the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12.
Marcus
Does it come with a 2 3/4" barrel? JoJo
The 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12 will feature a 2 1/4" barrel diameter.
John P.
What size bat and drop weight does my 8 yo son need? He's 4'7" and weighs 71 pounds. He plays travel ball and little league. Thank you. AUAli
We would recommend a 29" for a player with his height and weight. The ideal drop weight for him would be a -12 but it would all vary on the players strength.
John
Can you get the Easton MAKO with a 2 5/8" barrel diameter? joel
The Easton MAKO is featured in a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter. These are the ones we currently have in stock: Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL15MK9, 2016 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK10, and the Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL14MK9.
Cameron
My son is 51" tall and weighs 65 pounds. I am trying to decide between the 28" and 29". What do you think would be appropriate length and drop? CB
Based upon your son's height and weight, I would recommend using a 28" 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12.
John P.
Based upon your son's height and weight, I would recommend using a 28" 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12.
John P.
other than the weight difference is there anything major difference in the regular mako and the xl bill
The only major difference between the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12 and the 2016 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK10 other than the ounces, would be the swing weight. The 2016 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK10 features an end loaded swing weight, whereas the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12 features a balanced swing weight.
Nick
My son is 5' feet tall and 100 pounds. He is more interested in bat speed than power. Is the 30" -11 or -12 a better choice? tim
Based upon your player's height and weight, we would recommend going with a Youth bat (2 1/4" barrel diameter) in the 30" length. If you were to get this 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB16MK12) in the 30"/18 oz size, you would have the lighter bat when compared to the YB16MK11 model in the same length. However, at your player's size, I think that he may actually benefit from handling the slightly heavier YB16MK11 bat (more weight should allow him to hit the ball harder).
Ben
My son is 4'6" tall and weighs 70 pounds. I am trying to decide between the 28" and 29". What do you think would be appropriate length and drop? ph
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12 in a 29 inch 17 ounce model.
Cameron
What is the difference between the 2015 Easton S1 (YB15S1) and the 2016 MAKO -12 (YB16MK12)? Willie
The two bats are very similar overall in terms of performance. However, the MAKO features a newer TCT Thermo composite compared to the IMX and SIC composite used in the S1. This new TCT Thermo composite gives the MAKO a longer barrel and bigger sweet spot compared to the S1.
Jason
My son is 50" tall and weighs 50 lbs. He is 7 about to be 8 years old. What length and weight of the MAKO would you recommend? jeff
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 28" 16 oz model of the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12.
Jason
can you tell me if where i can talk to or get a hold of a Easton sales rep in our area to demo a bat?? we have 900 kids in our league and i'm thinking if we can get a few demos it might work out well for the company and our league. We are located in Northeast PA kal1919
We do not know how many or where the sales reps for Easton may be located. To better answer your question, we would suggest reaching out to Easton at (888) 259-1297.
Cameron
Is there a difference in the "sweet spot" size between the -11 (2015 or 2016 versions) and -12 youth MAKO bats? Sean
There is no difference in the size of the sweet spot in the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12 compared to previous year's models. As for the difference drops of the bats, one may find the ability to generate slightly more power with the drop -11 models when compared to the drop -12 models; this is due to the extra ounce that you have with the drop -11.
Cameron
My player most recently used a 31"/19 oz bat. Should we go to the YB16MK11 (32-21) or the YB16MK12 (32-20)? MIKE P
If you are wanting to get the model that would allow your player to grow the most within while using, I would recommend the 32"/21 oz option of the YB16MK11. As long as your player can manage the 21 oz weight at the beginning, I think that he will be able to use that bat the longest as it has a long length and higher weight. This 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB16MK12) is a great bat, but I worry that your player will grow out of the 20 oz weight of the 32" option sooner than later.
Ben
Easton's web site says this bat does not need to be broken in and JustBats says it does. What is the correct answer? JoJO
The 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12 is pretty hot out of the wrapper and it really does not require much of a break-in period. We still feel that the bat will benefit from a small break-in period though of about 50-100 swings.
Jason
My son used a 2015 MAKO (29"/18 oz) last season with good results, but due to cracking I returned the bat to Easton for a replacement which I received and sold. Since then he has been using a 2015 Easton XL3 (30"/19 oz) in the cages over the winter and now outdoors. He feels he is not getting the same results. He is 11 years old, 4'6" tall and 91 lbs. He is strictly a line drive hitter. What size MAKO would you recommend? Dave
That new XL3 that your player has been using may have been a difficult transition for him due to the weighting that is present on the bat. The MAKO swung in the past would have been more balanced in its swing weight while the XL3 is more end-loaded. I am thinking a switch back to a balanced MAKO may be beneficial. Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting this 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB16MK12) in the 30" length. This YB16MK12 will actually have a -12 length-to-weight ratio that would result in a 18 oz weight if the model were 30" in length. I might almost recommend getting this YB16MK12 in the 31"/19 oz size in order to get him something he could use this season and maybe even the next season.
Ben
Trying to find the closest thing to the discontinued Easton Omen 28"/16. Suggestions? cb
If you wanted to get a model from Easton that will compare most closely to the two-piece, all-composite design of the Omen, I would recommend this 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB16MK12). It features a two-piece, all-composite design and you can get it in the same 28"/16 oz size as your Omen from the past.
Ben
My son is having trouble batting and an Easton MAKO was recommended, but what size? He is 9 years old, weighs 52 pounds and is 4'3" tall. tommy
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 28 model in the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12.
Jason
My son is 12 years old, is about 5'2" and weighs approx. 105lbs. What size Mako would you suggest? Tom
We would recommend a 31" for a player with his height and weight.
John
My son is 12 years old, 5'7", and weighs 140 lbs. What size bat would you recommend? Maria
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would recommend getting this 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB16MK12) in the 32" length option. As long as the 20 oz weight of the 32" option of this MAKO is optimal for your player, I would recommend that size option of this bat.
Ben
My son is 5'2" and 110 lbs. What size? Baseball
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12 in a 31 inch 19 ounce model.
Cameron
My son is 7 yrs old, 4'2" and 50 lbs. What size do you recommend? Red
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting this 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB16MK12) in the 28" length. As long as your player can handle the 16 oz weight of the 28" option of this bat, I think he will be just fine with that size of bat.
Ben
My son is 4'6" tall and weighs 67 lbs. He's 9 1/2 now and already has the YB16MK12 28/16. Should I get the 29/17 or is his current bat good? He will be turning 10 May 2017 and will probably grow a couple more inches. He's a line drive hitter and don't know if the extra inch and weight will be a big difference. He also has a 29/16 DeMarini Voodoo RAW for next season but that's a little lighter. 1
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting a 29 inch bat. As for the weight to get, this will be dependent on how well he has been handling the 16 ounce MAKO he is currently using. If you and/or his local coaches feel that this weight is too light then certainly a 29/17 would be beneficial. If the 18 ounce bat has been too heavy then it would be prudent to either go down an ounce or stay with another 18 ounce bat in anticipation that he will handle the weight better come spring time.
Cameron
My son is 8 years old, 48" tall and weighs 55 lbs. Can you suggest what bat size and weight I should consider? Kevin
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12 in a 27 inch model.
Cameron
4'2" and weighs about 87 lbs. Last year he swung a 27" which is obviously too small for him now. What would you suggest? BBB
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12 in a 29 inch model.
Cameron
I just purchased this bat from here as a replacement for the same exact bat which I purchased over a year ago. However, when I placed the bats side by side I noticed one significant difference. The rubber ring with the letters CXN is about 1 1/2 inches higher up the barrel than the one I purchased a year ago. This should not be. These are identical model bats from the same year yet this new one I just purchased has what seems to be a defect which makes the barrel appear more than an inch shorter. Please advise. Marc

Can this bat be used for the 2017 Babe Ruth League? MattyIce
Yes, the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12 is legal for all divisions of Babe Ruth except the 13-15 and 16-18 for 2017.
Jason
Hi, This is the rule for our Babe Ruth league composite bats: "Only composite barrel bats certified and marked BBCOR .50 will be allowed." Is this bat BBCOR .50? Jen
The 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK12 is not marked BBCOR .50. For a bat featuring that certification, you would need to look at the 2016 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MK, or the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17MK.
