Description

There's a reason Louisville Slugger remains the #1 bat in fastpitch softball. Their attention to detail and drive to surpass so-called limits have resulted in this year's newest and most-innovative design yet: the Louisville Slugger XENO PLUS Fastpitch Softball bat! Like many elite players have grown accustomed to seeing in other XENO models, the barrel features the S1iD Inner Disc Barrel Technology with a Zero Friction Double Wall Design. This technology actually allows the barrel to be tuned to exceed the legal ball exit speed ratio. The trick is that a governor is placed inside that allows the barrel to flex to its MAXIMUM allowable performance from SWING 1. The XENO PLUS is made from Louisville Slugger's innovative newest Performance PLUS Composite material. This composite blend is lighter and more durable than previous versions, and with the S1iD Technology, it needs ABSOLUTELY ZERO BREAK-IN! The XENO PLUS also features a new iST Connection for a solid bond between handle and barrel. iST provides players a bat with a slightly stiffer feel for more efficient energy transfer on contact and a HUGE sweetspot; all while absorbing vibrations from mis-hit balls before they reach the player's hands. With a tacky synthetic grip a 7/8 inch handle, the XENO PLUS will provide players with absolute control and confidence at the plate. Louisville Slugger: Passion In Your Heart; Power In Your Hands! The XENO PLUS is approved by all major fastpitch softball organizations (ASA, USSSA, NSA, ISA and ISF). This bat comes with a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty against breakage. Free Shipping!

So Far, So Good Angela parent

Pros: We don't have much experience with composite bats, but this one seems to be a good one. It definitely helped my 9-year-old to hit the ball a lot farther than with a metal bat. It feels a little heavy, but it doesn't seem to affect her performance when batting. She really likes the colors of the bat.

Cons: None yet. We've only had the bat a few weeks and haven't used it in a game yet, just for practicing.

Very happy... Chris parent

Pros: We bought this bat after borrowing a similar one from a friend. First weekend we used our new bat, my daughter hit .556 on the weekend with 3 triples and a double. The pop is great the feel is solid. She loves it! I rated durability a 3 simply because I haven't had enough time to measure that yet.

Cons: None at this time.

Good Bat TJ parent

Pros: Great feel, nice pop. Much better quality than the 2015. The staff at Louisville slugger was also great replacing the 2015 model within days of returning it, with a new 2016.

Cons: This was actually a free replacement for the 2015 Xeno and overall it's much better but the end cap is starting to separate from the barrel so I'm no sure about the overall durability.

Pros: We just received this bat and have not had a chance to break it in completely yet. I will say that the first hundred or so swings that my 7 year old has taken with it sounded great, and had much more pop than her aluminum bat! I look forward to starting our cage practices this week with it.

Cons: None yet!

Awesome Bat Ty parent

Pros: Bought this bat when it first came out, on back order for 2 weeks, my DD has swung the CF5 and the Mako, but this bat is awesome. It's hot out of the wrapper, the ball jumps off this bat, hitting the fences and now going over the fences. She's 15, 5ft and about 120. She loves this bat. Highly recommend

what is the difference between the plus & the XLT plus stick
The differences between the 2016 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXN161) and the 2016 Louisville Slugger LXT Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat are the following: Xeno Plus will feature a two-piece construction and iST connection technology - zero vibration / efficient energy transfer while the LXT Plus will be a three-piece design with TRU3 explosive power transfer technology - lighter swing weight / reduced vibration (this means the connection point has different technology used and this is the main difference besides the two-piece/three-piece construction).
Cameron
My daughter is 9 years old and weighs about 61 pounds. She plays travel in 10u and right now swings a 28 inch 17 ounce. Will a 30 inch 19 ounce be too big? curtisjag
Based on your daughter's weight (guessing around 4'4" to 4'6" on height) we would recommend going with a 28 inch or 29 inch model with regards to the 2016 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN161. There's a very good chance that the 30 inch 19 ounce model will be too long for her which could cause the barrel to drag through the hitting zone.
Cameron
My daughter is 9 years old, 4'5" and 62 pounds. She used a 2015 XENO in the fall (29" 18 oz). What size/weight should she use for this spring if I get her the 2016 XENO? Laurel
Based on your daughter's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN161 in a 30 inch 19 ounce model.
Cameron

John
My daughter is 12 and has been using a 29 inch, -13 bat. The bat is a few years old. She is now 4'8 and 80 pounds. Do I go with a 30 or 31 inch, with a -11 length-to-weight ratio? stacy
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would recommend getting a bat with a 30" length. Although, it would present a bit of an adjustment period, I think that your daughter would probably be able to handle the 19 oz weight of a 30" model of this 2016 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXN161).
Ben
What is the difference between a 2016 model FPXN161 and model 160? Lucky
The only difference will be the drop weight. The FPXN161 will feature a -11 drop weight while the FPXN160 has a -10 drop.
John
What is the difference between a model 160 and 161? Lucky
The only difference between the two models is the fact that the 2016 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN161 features a -11 length to weight ratio while the 2016 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN160 features a -10 length to weight ratio.

Based upon your daughter's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of going with a 31" model of this 2016 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXN161). As long as your daughter can handle the 20 oz weight of the 31" model of this bat, that size should be just fine for use!

Based upon your daughter's height and weight, we would make a general recommendation of going with a softball bat in the 27" length. Currently, Louisville Slugger does not make a 2016 XENO in the 27" length. if the bat is composite why is there no break in? should i still have my daughter break it in like a normal composite bat to have the sweet spot all around casey
According to Louisville Slugger, the design and structure of the bat allows for no break-in period. However, the bat may still benefit from 50-100 swings and rotating the barrel 1/4" after every swing. This will help ensure that the bat is at peak performance.
Nick

Cameron
My daughter is 5'5" and 125 lbs. For the XENO Plus, would you recommend a 32/21? scott

Jason
My daughter is 5'3" and 100 lbs. She currently swings a 19 oz 31 length Easton 2015 bat. It seems to be top heavy and is causing her to drop her barrel. What do you suggest? Addy
Based on your daughter's height and weight, she could actually go up to a 32 inch bat but this would increase the weight as well. If you feel that the current bat of 19 ounces is too heavy then it would make more sense to drop in length to get a lighter bat.
Cameron
My daughter is 9 years old, 4'2" and about 60 pounds. Which size XENO would be best for her? She is playing 10U kid pitch softball. alison b
Based on your daughter's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN161 in a 27 inch 16 ounce model.
Cameron
My daughter is 49 inches tall and 62 pounds. What size and kind of bat would you recommend for her? Traci S.
For your daughter's height and weight we recommend a 28" length. Composite is the material most often used in fastpitch softball rather than aluminum. Younger players who are still developing their skills and strength benefit the most from using a two-piece, balanced bat.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
