perfect bat Chris player

Pros: Bat comes out hot got it in a couple days ago took it too the cages... bat feels real good very little break in time if any really needed took about 90 swings at the cages and over half of the hits would have been out of the park in a regular game

Cons: None what-so-ever

Another winner Jeremy Jordan player

Pros: This is my second 26 EL z4, the first one broke in 3 swings...However, Louisville if you have registered your bat properly was very fast with the return. With that being said my return bat has about 300 cuts on it, and is finally coming in nicely. The sound has dramatically changed and the ball is flying off the bat! Not to say this bat wasnt "hot" out of the wrapper because the ball did come off of it nicely, but it has consistently gotten better with more impacts on it. This bat to me feels more like the z2 with the stiffness, with the technology of the TRU 3. Im very satisfied with my purchase. I had my z4, z3, and z2 recently tested with my 3 being the oldest then the 2 and newest being the z4...my z4 tested the hottest of the 3.

Cons: Biggest CON that I have was that my original bat that broke, did not feel end loaded (which i kinda liked) The replacement bat is VERY end loaded, but I have grown to like it at this point but consistency seems to be a slight issue. I personally took the tapered handle out, but still used the original grip..just helped me with the end load. Little bit more break in time to be game ready, but not much of a con.

I like it so much that I bought 2! K Shaw player

Pros: Like how others have said, this bat is hot right out of the wrapper! Great "trampoline" feel at the point of impact! Louisville finally got back on track as this bat is very similar in performance to the highly coveted Z1000! In my opinion, this model IS the reincarnation of the great Z1000 that we players can't buy brand new anymore!

Cons: Only con is that it does cost a healthy dime. I bought two for $600 with one still in the wrapper.

Very Disapointing Bat Ryan Pellecchia player

Pros: Good feel

Cons: After returning my cracked Z3000 they sent me a Z4000 end loaded. Was not happy about the change from a Z3000 to an end loaded Z4000 but figured I would give it a try. It is not hot out of the wrapper at all. We have to test bats in our league to use them and it tested 100 points over the limit. When you swing the bat it feels like the handle twists in your hands. Maybe over time I will come to like this bat, but in 20+ years of playing this game I can say this is the worst bat I have ever hit. I think I will go back to my old faithful Miken, Demarini or Easton.

1 1 player

Pros: bat feels really nice the tapered handle feels really good, and has decent pop

Cons: bat broke within a week, crack in three places, and it sounds like an alloy bat, just sounded weird, butnisk if it was cracked before or after i started hitting because it sounded broke on yhe first swing

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Z-4000 End Load ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SBZ416A-E? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this is a dual stamp bat, which balls are supposed to perform better with, 52/300 or 44/375? Any durability issue with any ball? Donaldo
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 End Load ASA/USSSA Slow pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-E) is approved for ASA, USSSA, NSA, and ISA play. This bat is not designed to hit the .44 CORE 375 COMPRESSION and it will see durability issues with this ball.
Tom
How heavy is the end load? willbert
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 End Load ASA/USSSA Slow pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-E) will have an end-load of around 1 oz.
Ben
Tom said "This bat is not designed to hit the .44 CORE 375 COMPRESSION and it will see durability issues with this ball." My USSSA league uses .40/325 balls. Does that mean you don't recommend this bat, even though it it's dual-stamp? dmo
That is correct. The 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 End Load ASA/USSSA Slow pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-E) will be more designed to hit the .52 cor balls. Also, the durability will be much better versus these balls. This bat will definitely still hit the .40 and .44 cor balls extremely well, it's just a risk for the overall durability of the bat.
Brandon
I swing a 28 ounce balanced model really well and was looking to get an end-loaded bat. Should I stay with the 28 ounce or change to a 27 ounce? A Train
If you like the feel of the balanced version, I would probably stick with a 27 ounce to give it a similar overall swing weight if you shift to the 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 End Load ASA/USSSA Slow pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-E).
Patrick
Does this bat have the NSA 2012 logo on the bat? Thighpads
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 End Load ASA/USSSA Slow pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-E) is NSA approved and will feature the NSA stamp.
Frankie
Does this bat have an ASA certification stamp on it? I didn't notice one in the picture. Mike
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 End Load ASA/USSSA Slow pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-E) does have the ASA certification stamp, it is on the opposite side of the handle piece from the USSSA thumbprint stamp. It is not visible in the pictures on the site.
Patrick
I know these shouldn't hit the .44 core softballs, but how about the .52 core softballs? joey
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 End Load ASA/USSSA (SBZ416A-E) should perform well with the .52 core softballs.
Marcus
So can the bat work with the 44 cor 375 comp balls and work well? john
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 End Load ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SBZ416A-E will hit .44 Core .375 Compression softballs extremely well, however, this bat is not designed to be used with these particular balls. Therefore contact with them will risk the overall durability of the bat.
Angelique
Is this bat a stiff bat (playing co-ed with "mushball")? Any recommendations? Len
With the two piece design, I would guess that that this 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 End Load ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-E) won't provide much of the stiffness you might like for use with a mushball. If you want a single-piece bat from Louisville Slugger, I might recommend the Louisville Slugger Vapor Single Wall Alloy Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SBVA15U).
Ben
Is this bat hot out the wrapper or does it need to be broken in? Bendozer
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 End Load ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SBZ416A-E will be hot out of the wrapper and should not require a break-in period.
Nick
Will this bat hold well in colder temps? joshua perkins
Unfortunately, there will not be any bat that is considered an exclusively cold weather bat. When the temperature sinks below 55 degrees, the ball becomes denser and has the ability to damage the barrel walls of any bat. If a player is participating in a practice that is being held in conditions with a temperature below 55 degrees, we would recommend using an older model bat that will no longer be used for games. If a game is being held in conditions below 55 degrees, we would recommend hitting BP with a non-game model bat and then only using a new model like this 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 End Load ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-E) in the actual game.
Ben
Does this bat have the USSSA BPF stamp? Ryan C
Yes, the 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 End Load ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SBZ416A-E has the USSSA 1.20 BPF Stamp on it.
Marcus
I'm so confused why this bat is discontinued. It has great reviews. I've used a friend's and am trying to purchase one but cannot find any. Nikki
The Louisville Slugger Z-4000 End Load ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SBZ416A-E is discontinued as LS came out with a newer model the next year. The bat was not discontinued for any performance or durability issues but rather due to LS coming out with a newer version of the bat. Since this bat is no longer being made it would be tough to find a "new" model of it from a retailer.
Cameron
So why was the bat discontinued and what Louisville Slugger model succeeded or replaced it? RC
We can connot confirm the reasoning on why Louisville stopped producing this model. Louisville doesn't have a huge presence with slow pitch softball, so they only have a few bats that they have produced. Now we only have the Louisville Slugger Super Z-1000 12" Powerload USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: WTLSZU19P available.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
