Description

One of the most beloved bat designs created since the inception of the BBCOR performance standard, the 5150 is back! This bat offers a very traditional feel that many hitters demand with its one-piece fully alloy construction. This isn't just any alloy: it's Rawlings 5150 Alloy - a radically responsive, aerospace-grade blend of some of the toughest metals on the planet. To ensure you're getting the most out of your bat, Rawlings has included Precision Optimized Performance (pOp) Technology within the 5150's barrel. Not only does this isolate excess weight to a smaller region of the bat for improved balance, but it amplifies the trampoline effect that's achievable on contact by generating additional barrel flex. To further improve hitters' swing speed, a Comp-Lite Composite End Cap has been added to this bat's frame to create one of the lightest fully alloy bats around. Anyone tuning in to the action in Omaha was sure to see the Virginia Cavaliers wielding the 5150 on their way to the a College World Series Title. And plenty of other championship caliber teams choose the 5150 for its established performance and reliability. The Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 is BBCOR Certified for High School and Collegiate play, and it's backed by a full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Pick up your own Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 today, with Fast, Free Shipping, at JustBats.com.

Nice Bat Ryan player

Pros: Very good pop off the barrel of the bat. I do like the color scheme. Is very balanced which I really like a lot.

Cons: It can vibrate if you get hit off the handle because it is a one-piece, just buy a thumb guard and you'll be fine. Maybe just wanted a different color for the handle grip. Has a very loud bing.

Great Bat lilTaterlee27 player

Pros: Very good weight distribution and feel. Smaller players said it felt top heavy but i'm a stronger guy so it feels great to me. Pop is great and as always it has that beautiful 'ping'. If your on the ropes, buy this bat. It lives up to the hype from previous models and then some. GREAT bat.

Cons: The only thing negative is the Vibration, which isn't as bad as previous models. I personally like a responsive bat, to know how i need to adjust my swing and to know when I square it up.

Unfortunately, the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 does not come in a 33.5" model.

The 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 and the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 will have similar pop. Where the advantage lies within the VELO would be the precision-optimized performance technology - this creates additional barrel flex and a 25% larger sweet spot.
Cameron
My son is 5'11" 160 lbs and a late swinger. I suggest a 31" 28 oz. What is your take? Jay
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 32" model of the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53. However, bat speed is the most important thing. If you feel that he is a late swinger, then the smaller and lighter 31" 28 oz would probably be a better size for him.
Jason
My son is a 7th grader that is 5'4" and weighs about 140 lbs. What would be the best size bat for him to use? He has been using a 31-30 drop 10 for the last year in travel ball. He starts school ball soon and has to use a BBCOR now. baseball mom
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 31" model in the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53.
Jason
Would you recommend this bat for a contact hitter or power hitter ? Rob
This 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBR53) will come with a balanced swing weight. Because of this bat having a balanced swing weight, it really could be used by contact or power hitters. You'll find that both types of hitters can come to prefer balanced swinging bats. (However, the typical way of thinking suggests a balanced bat for a contact hitter)
Ben
What would you recommend between the 2016 Rawlings 5150 and the VELO. I am 5'8" and weigh 130 pounds. Also, I am a contact hitter. Real G
Based upon your height, weight, and the fact that you're a contact hitter, I would recommend using a 31" 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53.
John P.
What would you recommend, a 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR or the VELO? I am 5 ft 8 and weigh 130 pounds and I am a contact hitter. Real G
I think both bats would be very beneficial for you. Both bats feature a balanced swing weight distribution, which would be beneficial for a contact hitter. Both bats also have a similar construction, with the one piece alloy design.
Nick
I'm 5 foot 11 inches. What length do you recommend? srt4 lover
Based on your height, we would recommend a 33 inch 30 ounce model in the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53.
Cameron
I'm 6 ft tall and 200 pounds. Which one of the 2016 bats should I get between the VELO, 5150, or TRIO? I hit hard but I'm more of a contact hitter than a power, so which one? crunk, colton
All three of these bats, the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3, the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 and the 2016 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRT3 are all great bats to consider for someone of your hitting prowess. With all things consider, we would recommend getting the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 as this bat will be better balanced and have a larger sweet spot than the 5150 and be slightly less than the TRIO. If you are looking for more barrel flex to reduce stinging from off-centered hits than the TRIO would be the way to go.
Cameron
How bad is the vibration of this bat? Tyler_23
The 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 is very highly reviewed in the vibration category which means it will not have much vibration.
John P.
I am trying to decide between the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR and the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR. My question is, is the VELO worth the additional $100 compared to the $200 for the 5150? Joey Petryniec
Both the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 and the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 are very good one-piece alloy bats with balanced swing weights. As for whether or not it is worth paying the extra money to get the VELO over the 5150, that will vary from one customer to the next. The VELO will have a more balanced swing weight feel when compared to the 5150 but is that worth paying the extra money? That answer is solely dependent on what the consumer is looking for in a bat.
Cameron
If I am 5'9" and about 160 pounds what size bat do you recommend? JT
Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend using a 32" 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53.
John P.

Jason
I'm 5'9" and 155 lbs. What length of bat would be best? I play in 13-15 yr old Babe Ruth and 13 yr old traveling team. boss
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 in a 32 inch 29 ounce model.
Cameron
I am 6'3" and 210 pounds at 15 years old. I am a power hitter and in the past I have used slightly end loaded bats. Would you recommend this bat for me and if so what size? Turbo
Based upon your height and weight, we would make general recommendation of getting a 34" model of this 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBR53). This VELO will be very balanced in its swing weight, so if having an end-loaded model would be necessary I might pass on this bat. However, I imagine that you would be able to handle the 31 oz weight of the 34" model if this was a bat that interested you.
Ben
What is the difference between this bat and the new VELO? Landon
While both the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 are well-balanced one-piece alloy bats, the difference is in the barrel and sweet spot length. The 2016 Rawllings VELO BBCOR bat has a more extended barrel and sweet spot size in comparison to the 5150.
Marcus
I'm 6'2" and 220 pounds at 15 years old. I'm a power hitter and need to know whether I should buy the 2016 5150, or the 2016 VELO. Essentially, which bat is better for a power hitter? RJ
I would say that both the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 and the 2016 Rawlings VELO would be an excellent option for a power hitter. The VELO is going to have an extended barrel and sweet spot in comparison to the 5150.
John P.
I am a 6'3", 220 lbs and a power hitter. In the past I've only used end-loaded bats, but I have had trouble getting them through the zone. I am looking for a bat with a lower swing weight with plenty of pop. I have a mid-sized budget. Would this bat fulfill that need? Turbo
I think this 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBR53) will meet your needs for a bat as it has a very balanced swing weight that will allow for a very fast swing speed and the performance reviews have been excellent so far. As well, you'll notice that the price is one that will not break the bank in comparison to some other top models on the market right now. Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend looking at a 33" or 34" option of this bat.
Ben
What is the difference between the 2016 5150 and the 2015 5150? Logan
The difference between the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 and the Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB5150 would be the paint scheme. All other aspects of the bat were kept the same from 2015 to 2016.
Cameron
My son is 5'7" and 135 lbs. What size would you recommend him using? jake
According to our bat coach a kid with the height and weight as you described typically swings a 32" bat. You could also try going down to a 31" bat if you see fit.
Carter
Why is the end cap different on the BBCOR model in comparison to the senior league model? me
That is just the way that Rawlings decided to produce those two particular models. The comp-lite end cap on this 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 enhances balance for faster swing speeds.
John P.
What size bat would you recommend for a 5'9", 125 lb kid? PeteBaseball1971

Jason
My son is 6'0", 210 lbs., and 15 years old. What would be an ideal size of bat and which bat would be best for him the VELO or 5150? Hawgharp
Based on his height and weight I would recommend a 33" bat. The 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBR53) and the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) would both be excellent options for him.
Jake
I am a 14 year old and 100 lbs. I am a contact hitter looking for a bat with fast swing speed and lots of pop. Would you recommend this bat or the VELO? tommy stewart
For a player looking for the fastest swing speed and the most performance, I would probably recommend the VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) over this 5150 as I feel that the VELO is slightly more balanced feeling. Typically, more balanced bats usually allow for a little more bat speed.
Ben
i am looking for a bat with a very very fast swing speed and tons of pop. Is this bat for me? luke
Yes the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 will feature a great swing speed with its balanced design and it would be a great bat for you.
Carter
Will this bat or the 2017 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR feature a longer barrel/larger sweet spot? Which bat will perform better; this bat, or the 2017 Marucci Cat 7 BBCOR? tanky69
(1) The barrel length between this 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBR53) and the 2017 Rawlings 5150 will be very similar. Neither barrel length will give one of the bats more of an advantage. (2) With each release, the 5150 line of bats and the CAT line of bats get excellent ratings. Both bats are very similar offerings so it is hard to say that one is far and away the best bat. Making a decision may come to deciding which manufacturer you prefer the most.
Ben
Which bat will be the most balanced between this, the 2017 5150 and the Marucci Cat 7? swrhoads34
Both the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBR53) and the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBC7) are going to be extremely balanced bats. They are going to compare very similarly in a lot of areas. I would not give the edge to ether one on balance, due to the fact that both of these bats are extremely balanced.
Carter
I am 5'7" and 150 lbs. Do you suggest a 33"? Max
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 32" model of the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53. If you are comfortable using a slightly bigger size, then you could bump up to the 33".
Jason
Has anything changed for the 2017 model of this bat compared to the 2016 model other than cosmetics? Jon S
For the most part, the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 is the same bat as the 2017 model. The 2017 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB75 does feature Precision-Optimized-Performance (pOp) 2.0 Technology for a slightly larger sweet spot than the 2016 model.
Logan
My son is 5 foot 3 and a half, 114 lbs. Which model would be best for him? Sherry
A balanced bat would be best for someone of your son's height and weight. Based on his height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 in a 30 inch 27 ounce model.
Cameron
Why are there no size 33 inch bats? Will you be getting any anytime soon? Joe
There are no more 33" bats in the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBR53) because this is last years model and we are sold out of them. We will not be receiving anymore of these because they are last years model, however, we do have the 33" in the 2017 version of this bat. It is the 2017 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB75).
Carter
Is this or the 2017 Combat Vigor a better bat? I'm 5'1" and 93 lbs. reed
Both the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBR53) and the 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (VG2AB103) are very good bats. The main difference between the two is going to be the 5150 is an aluminum bat while the Vigor is a composite bat. Both feature one piece designs. Based on your height and weight we would recommend a 29"/26 ounce bat. Both the Vigor and the 5150 are only going to come in a 30"/27 ounce at the lightest so you would have to decide if you can handle that extra weight. I would recommend you stick with whatever material you felt was most comfortable to you.
Carter
My son is 5'10" and is 170 lbs. What is the best bat for him? He is playing on his 8th grade team so it needs to be a BBCOR bat. Dwe
Based on your player's height and weight, as well as considering his age, it would be best to get a 32 inch model of the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53. If looking for a more balanced option from Rawlings then we would highly recommend the VELO. This is also a one-piece alloy bat but will be better balanced than the 5150.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
