Description

COMBAT's new B4 Portent XL is not just any big barrel bat. With it's enlarged 2 3/4 inch barrel, the B4 Portent XL has a HUGE hitting surface and COMBAT's new FULL BARREL SWEETSPOT! Yes, you read that right. There is no such thing as a mishit with this bat, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. It all starts with COMBAT's Localized Stiffening Technology that allows their engineers to lower barrel wall stiffness on both sides of the normal sweet spot, resulting in an enlarged sweet spot area where absolute maximum performance can be achieved! The 100% composite, one-piece B4 Portent XL utilizes COMBAT's Blended Fiber Technology that blends several different fibers in varying proportions at carefully controlled angles to create a composite material that results in both resilient durability and increased trampoline effect. Separation Barrier Technology also allows this bat to be HOT out of the wrapper! SmartFlex and SmartPly technologies work together to make this the smartest bat ever constructed. The result is a continuous store-and-release monster that will allow players to think beyond the warning track, beyond the wall, and beyond the park. COMBAT: For Players, By Players. The B4 Portent XL features the USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: Great Pop out of the wrapper. My son has had the 2-5/8" version but this new 2-3/4" version is way hotter. I would equate it to the original B1 Bomb! For the $$$, there is not a better -10 senior bat on the market. This thing hits bombs if you are a strong hitter. Easton is about to loose some market share!

Cons: Now we have a 2-5/8" Portent, 2-5/8" Combat Pure and a 2-5/8" Marucci Elite sitting in the bag collecting dust.

Pros: Purchased this bat for my 9 year old grandson based on reviews and it has not disappointed us. Great pop out of the box. His hitting seems to have improved instantly. First at bat hard line drive past short stop. Second at bat hit by pitcher. Third at bat best hit ever. Had wind not been blowing in hard towards home plate it would have been over fence. Sadly, the rain started and cancelled the tournament. His confidence has greatly improved using this bat. Very pleased. Can't wait for next game.

BAD NEWS - Great pop for 10 swings Anthony coach

Pros: Great feel and pop right out of the wrapper

Cons: After 10 swings the bad had cracked. Have sent back for a one time replacement. At thi rate I will get 20 swings out of two bats. That breaks down to about 5 dollars a swing! Spend more and get a company you can trust.

Not what I expected.. Chontay Montague parent

Pros: For the price...pretty good bat

Cons: I bought this bat for my son to use in USSSA baseball. Being an avid softball play, I have bought many bats from the Combat Co. and all of my sons have had Combat baseball bats. This is the first bat I have ever bought from Combat that disappointed me. It just doesn't have the pop that other Combats have had. It feels good, but the ball does not jump off the bat. I even hit with it, the ball still didn't jump like the B2 or B3 (both outlawed), which was a let down. But when I can grab his TPX or Easton and they out perform it....I was really really surprised. Still a good bat for 50-60 bucks...for 70 bucks...look for a 2013 Matrix...

Do you think this bat is better than the Marucci Team bat. bigmac
Since the 2013 COMBAT B4 Portent XL: B4SL210 Senior League is a Composite bat it will be a higher quality then the Marucci Team.
Chad M.
I am in a 12u AAU league. I want to take advantage of the fact that we can use big barrel bats for the league. Weight, balance, and technology aside, which bat has more pop, this one or a Senior League B3? T
The 2013 COMBAT B4 Portent XL: B4SL210 Senior League and the COMBAT B3 will be just about identical in performance. It would be near impossible to see a performance difference between either bat.
Noah
Does this bat have more pop than the XL1 big barrel? joe
The 2013 COMBAT B4 Portent XL: B4SL210 Senior League and Easton XL1 will be very similar in performance, as they are both full composite bats.
Noah
Everywhere I have seen this bat for sale, its listed as a 2 5/8" bat. You have it listed as a 2 3/4 bat. Does it come in both? j34mac34
The 2013 COMBAT B4 Portent XL: B4SL210 Senior League bat features a barrel diameter of 2 3/4", as listed. The B4 Portent was also produced in a -10 model with a 2 5/8" barrel diameter. Unfortunately, we no longer carry that model.
Mac
I just received the following COMbat B4 SL Portent model, B4SLl210 31" 21 oz. 2 3/4" barrel made in China all composite. The bat hits and sounds like an aluminum bat and I cannot find one with specs online, the specs being made in China 2 3/4" barrel , just concern it may not be composite. Bkbroiler
The 2013 COMBAT B4 Portent XL: B4SL210 Senior League bat is a fully composite bat design. Here is COMBAT's number if you wish to contact them: 866-266-2287.
Brandon
Is the 2 5/8" barrel one very balanced? sd show
The 2013 COMBAT B4 Portent with the 2 5/8" barrel will be a fairly balanced bat.
Noah
What is the difference between this bat and the Easton S1 -10? olered
The 2013 COMBAT B4 Portent XL: B4SL210 Senior League bat is a one-piece composite bat with a 2 3/4" barrel diameter. The Easton S1 Senior League: SL13S110 is a two-piece composite design with a 2 5/8" barrel diameter. The S1 provides a bit more trampoline effect on contact while the B4 Portent transfers energy more efficiently to the ball. Both are also very balanced models.
Mac
I play in a USSSA AAA team and was wondering if 2 3/4 barrel bats are legal in that league? tommyboy
The 2 3/4" barrel like the 2013 COMBAT B4 Portent can be used in 14U and 15U and above USSSA.
Damon
Why did they make a 2 3/4" size, and what is the difference between the 2 5/8" barrel? slantman
Some Youth Big Barrel leagues allow the use of the 2 3/4" barrel diameter models. The 2013 COMBAT B4 Portent XL: B4SL210 Senior League bat provides a larger hitting surface than models with 2 5/8" barrels.
Mac
What does the XL stand for? I noticed there is also an SL of this style bat. Meg
The XL in 2013 COMBAT B4 Portent XL: B4SL210 Senior League represents that this bat has the larger, 2 3/4" barrel diameter. Some leagues do not allow the use of bats with the 2 3/4" barrel diameter. The other model with the 2 5/8" barrel diameter is the B4SL1. The SL in each product code stands for Senior League which is another term for Youth Big Barrel.
Mac
How much break in is required? Bill
The 2013 COMBAT B4 Portent XL: B4SL210 Senior League will take approximately 100-200 swings we break-in. We recommend to break-in a composite bats by taking 100-200 swings off a tee or soft toss. Rotate the barrel about 1 1/4" each swing. Make sure to avoid using it in batting cages that use yellow dimpled balls.
Kara

Can you use this bat all year long? Can it be used in cold weather or does it have to be a certain temperature to be able to use it? I know composite bats don't line the cold for the fact they tend to shatter. Coach T
The 2013 COMBAT B4 Portent XL: B4SL210 Senior League should not be used in temperatures below 55 degrees.
Kara
My son is 10 years old. He is 5' and 87 lbs. What is a good size for him? Danny

Kara said "make sure to avoid using it in batting cages that use yellow dimpled balls." Why is that? Bill

What would you prefer for a power hitter. This bat or the 2013 Easton XL1? Ckjh
The 2013 COMBAT B4 Portent XL: B4SL210 Senior League will be considered a balanced model. Most power hitters prefer an endloaded feel, so I would recommend the Easton XL1.
Justin R.
My son is 7 yrs old weighs 75 lbs and 4'2". What size would you recommend? ferretti1228
Based on his height and weight we recommend a 28" 18 oz. 2013 COMBAT B4 Portent XL (B4SL210).
Kara
I have an 11 yr old who is 60 inches tall weighs 85 pounds. He currently has an Easton S1 30 inches long -13. He can use a big barrel bat this year for the first time. He hits line drives and ground balls; looking of something that will jump off the bat. BC
The COMBAT B4 Portent XL (B4SL210) uses high quality composite materials. It is very high performing and durable. The Portent is very balanced and is great for a player making the transition to a big barrel.
Kara
My son will be 7 in April. He is 4' 1" and weighs 48 lbs. What bat size do you recommend? Crowman
The correct size for him in the COMBAT B4 Portent XL: B4SL210 Senior League would be a 28".
Brandon
My son is 3' 10" tall and weighs about 52 lbs. He plays in a pitching machine league that's throws 39 mph. Is this a good choice? Or what would you recommended? Johnny
Yes, the COMBAT B4 Portent XL (B4SL210 Senior League) would be a great choice with its 2 3/4" big barrel size. The 26" 16 oz. size would be best recommended at his size.
Brandon
Is the B4 Portent end loaded? If so, which is more end loaded: the 2014 S1 or B4 Portent? Gino
The COMBAT B4 Portent XL (B4SL210) Senior League has a balanced swing weight. The Easton S1 also has a balanced swing weight.
Jason
I am just starting baseball and I am wondering if this is a good bat to start with and what size I might need? I am 5ft tall and 114lbs. bmxking
Yes, the COMBAT B4 Portent XL: B4SL210 Senior League is a very solid bat that will offer quality performance. For someone your size, we would recommend a 30" bat, which is the longest bat that we offer in this model. You could also elect to go down to a 29" bat, depending on if you are more comfortable with a slightly smaller bat, or if you like to stand closer to the plate, or other variables of such nature.
Kyle
Please help me choose between this and the Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha XL: SL136XL Senior League. My 7 year-old son is just under 60 lbs and about 52" tall. I am thinking a 28" -10 and his biggest need is more bat speed to increase power. Jeremy
The COMBAT B4 Portent XL (B4SL210) and the Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha XL (SL136XL) are both very high performing bats that are very balanced. For a younger player that needs more bat speed we recommend a -12 2014 COMBAT Portent (PORSL112).
Kara
In many of the reviews/comment sections for this bat and the TPX it is with in the bat pack, it says the bats cracked or broke after some uses. How do you handle that situation, how long is it warranted from you vs manufacturer? What is you customer service in this situation? TY Bigswat28
All bat warranties are through the manufacturer. If you ever have a defect in a bat you only need a copy of the receipt from us and the warranty number for the manufacturer. If you do not want to pay for shipping to the manufacturer, you can ship it back to us using our free return label and we can forward it on to the manufacturer for you.
Damon
Some leagues don't allow composite bats. Can my son use this bat in 8U under Nations Baseball? jeremy
According to the Nations Baseball website there are no restrictions in that age group. Therefore, the COMBAT B4 Portent XL (B4SL21) would be legal. Here is a link to the website: http://www.nations-baseball.com/documents/Nations%20Baseball%20Rules%202014.pdf
Kara
My son is 7 years old (will turn 8 Sept 1st). He is big for his age (56" 115-120lbs) and is moving up to play with pitching machine/kid pitch, Mustang league. What do you recommend? The chart says 29" but I wonder if 28" is better for now. Lou
Using our Bat Coach, I determined that a 29" bat would be the size I suggest for your son in the COMBAT B4 Portent XL (B4SL210).
Kelby
My son is 8. He weighs 76 lbs and is 55" tall. What bat would you recommend? Brooke
I would highly recommend the COMBAT B4 Portent XL (B4SL210). Based on your son's height and weight, I would recommend a 28" bat.
Justin R.
My son is a 9 years old and 67 lbs. Would you suggestion for a size, 27" 17 oz.? He is 3'9". Jebaseball
Based on his height and weight we recommend a 27" 17 oz. COMBAT B4 Portent XL (B4SL210).
Kara
Which would you consider the better bat for an 8U playing tournaments for both machine and kid pitch? Raker
The COMBAT B4 Portent XL (B4SL210) is an excellent choice. It is high performing and can be used for machine and kid pitch.
Kara
My son is 6 and playing on a coach pitch travel team. He really likes this bat. Does it make that much of a difference to use a Senior League versus a Junior League bat? He is currently using a "normal" 27" 16 oz. bat. Brian
The COMBAT B4 Portent XL: B4SL210 can be used in coach, machine and kid pitch. The junior big barrel bats have thinner walls, and are designed for coach pitch only. The COMBAT B4 Portent XL is a high performing bat and would work well in a coach pitch league.

What's the difference between Senior and Junior league bats ? Lobo
The COMBAT B4 Portent XL (B4SL210 Senior League) is created for kid pitch leagues. A Junior Big Barrel bat would be created for Coach Pitch type leagues. The barrels of the Junior bats could dent or damage more easily if you use them in kid pitch leagues.
