The PUREYB1 is a youth bat with a 2 1/4 inch barrel. Typically, coach pitch leagues allow their teams to use a bat with a larger barrel (2 5/8" or 2 3/4"). If he can use a big barrel bat, I recommend looking at our Junior Big Barrel section.

If you are more of a contact hitter, I would probably suggest to go with the COMBAT Pure Gear. This bat has a one-piece design that is better suited for power hitters. The DeMarini Voodoo is a great bat, but the two-piece design of that bat is usually better suited for contact hitters.

The Pure is pretty similar to the B3 Gear, except the Pure will have a slightly lighter swing weight. The B4 does not feature the same Gear technology as the other two. The Pure will have good pop and perform most similar to the B3 Gear.

They are very similar in pop and power. The difference will be the Pure Gear is a one piece composite while the Easton S1 is a two-piece composite.

A one-piece bat will be pretty stiff and is generally more preferred by power hitters. A two-piece bat will offer a little flex and is typically better suited for contact or gap hitters.

My son just completed last season of Dixie Youth Coach Pitch which only allows 2 1/4 " barrel. My son is very small-50 lbs.He had the 27/15 Combat Grifter. He isn't a power hitter, but never struck out with this bat and usually got a single in the infield. Now that season is over I want to get him another bat. I'm looking at the PUREYB1 and the B3 Gear Retro 27/15. Which one would do better for a little guy? We want to work on distance. Ty's dad

Is the -12 correct? Does the 30/18 actually weigh 18 ounces or is it heavier? I know that the B3 Gear Retrofits are heavier than listed. My son's 29/17 weighs almost 19 ounces. I think that was due to the retrofit, because the orginial B3 Gears actually weight the listed weight. Does any know it the listed weight is correct for the Pure Gear? Gaucho
Bat manufacturers weigh their bats before the final stages of production, which includes the addition of paint, decals, grip, and sometimes the endcap and knob. It may weigh slightly more than advertised, but this is common amongst all brands.

The league my 8 year old son plays in allows the youth big barrel bats in addition to the normal smaller barrel bats. He's a very good hitter who rarely swings and misses. Besides having a larger barrel and easier contact, what are the benefits of a youth big barrel in comparison to a bat like the COMbat PUREYB1? He currently uses the TPX Triton II big barrel 28/16. Would this COMbat have more pop and swing speed because of the smaller barrell? Sabres Coach
The benefits of the larger barrel are in fact, a larger hitting surface. It will be easier to make contact. The contact made should be more solid as well. The Louisville Slugger TPX Triton II is going to swing the same as the COMBAT PUREYB1. They are both one-piece bats that are 100% composite designs. The only difference will be the barrel size. The pop and swing speed should be very comparable between the bats.

As of 4/18/2013, the COMBAT Pure Gear: PUREYB1 -12 Youth bat is legal for use in Little League. There aren't any official 2014 rules yet, but it should maintain its legality.

Any recommendations on how to break in a COMbat Pure Gear? baseball mom
The best way to break-in the COMBAT Pure Gear: PUREYB1 -12 Youth is to take 100-200 swings off a tee or soft toss. Rotate the barrel 1/4 inch every swing. Start out with 40% power and work up to 100% by 100 swings. We also recommend not to use a composite bat in a batting cage that uses yellow dimpled balls.
