What's the difference between birch and maple?
Birch is more flexible than maple. This hard wood will have similar durability to maple. A lighter wood, birch allows athletes to swing larger barreled bats through the hitting zone. Maple is a very hard, dense wood. The surface hardness is slightly harder than birch, but not by much. The harder the surface, the faster the ball will jump off the bat. This is one of the reasons maple has become so popular. The hardness of maple makes a bat with less flex than birch.

For over a decade, D-BAT has been making baseball bats for player ranging from the Little Leagues to the Major Leagues. From their factory based in Mt. Pleasant, TX, D-BAT creates high-quality American-made wood bats. Their bat making process starts with the finest yellow birch grown in North America. After carefully being weighed and checked for correct moisture content, each billet is turned in one of D-BAT's state-of-the-art computer lathes. When the bat is done, it is inspected for specification accuracy and is sent through three different sanding processes to ensure a smooth finish. The bat is then cupped to weight specifications and sent to the paint room where a proprietary sealer and top coat are systematically applied. This process ensures hardness that is not found in any competitor bat. When you walk on the field with a D-BAT, you can rest assured that there is not a finer piece of wood with better craftsmanship and performance anywhere in the park.
