Description

DeMarini wood bats have developed a reputation as some of the highest quality maple wood bats on the field. With a barrel made from pro grade maple wood, the D243 has the strength and durability one might expect from a DeMarini bat... nd then some. Known for its hardness, maple wood is usually pretty durable. However, DeMarini takes this durability a step further with the addition of a composite wood handle. This combination of materials creates one of the strongest wood bats you'll find anywhere and makes the D243 nearly unbreakable. The handle is also coated with a synthetic finish that drastically improves the grip and feel of the D243. This maple/composite design provides players with an ever so slight amount of flex that is not typically found in a maple-only wood bat. This design also produces a slightly end-loaded feel and a larger sweet spot for more trampoline and more power than your conventional wood bats. If you're tired of suffering through broken wood bats that just don't get the job done, step up to the plate and try a DeMarini Pro Maple Composite wood bat today! DeMarini: Insane Dedication to Performance! The D243 is BBCOR Certified and legal for high school and collegiate play. It is backed by a Full Three (3) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: Good bat for transitioning from aluminum to wood, especially for the younger player, aged 13-15. Weight being placed in the end makes for good power transition to ball. Balls hit between the logo and on pro maple emblem are true. Warranty really hold up. Bat lasted an entire season in 25 and up mens league before breaking, in a season on 25 games. No fear of breaking bat on inside pitches.

Cons: Hard to go from all wood back down to composite bat. Found bat to be light in hands afterwards. If you swing a -3 you might consider going up an additional inch in length for this bat to adjust to wood bat weights. I use 33" wood and 34" Pro Maple now.

Pros: This bat is awesome. I have played amateur baseball for 5 years now and have always used real Maple bats before trying out this composite. This year, with this bat, I have hit 3 home runs, 9 doubles, 5 triples, with a .451 average and .770 SLG% leading our league in AVG and SLG%. My highlights with this bat include a 430 foot home run to left center (fence was 400 to center, 465 to left center).

Cons: No cons. I don't think this bat can break! I've had hits off the handle of this bat that surely would have broken the maple bats I've used in the past.

Pros: It is like driving a 4 cyclinder Accord, it does the job well with little flash. The feel off the bat is muted and the sound is muffled to a full maple bat, but pop is similar and as advertised it won't break. I have used it a lot in the cage and probably 75 game AB's. I figure it has saved me from breaking about 3 bats which is where the value is with this bat. I would buy it again if it broke

Cons: The cap showing length on the handle dissappeared sometime within warranty period. Didn't want to lose bat for a couple of weeks to get it replaced.

Pros: Beautiful bat with excellent balance and feel. Despite the sound off the bat, the ball comes off the bat nice.

Cons: Very slippery handle. I broke my first bat after 7 at bats on a pop-up to the pitcher. I broke the second bat after 5 at bats on a bloop to short. In total, between game time and batting practice I figure the total investment ended after a return of approximately $1.00 per hit. Kayla at Demarini replied to my e-mail request that chances of a second replacement were "very slim to none".

Pros: Play in an +18 league in Birmingham, AL. Honest opinion it's this or the Louisville Slugger MLB Hybrid. Both are OUTSTANDING. They don't break PERIOD. Baums are great but these are just as good. Both are still in use after 2+ years respectively and against consistent 80-90mph pitching. Pop is there., durability is a non-issue. Soooo jsg11 player

Pros: LISTEN HERE SCRUBS, IF YOU ARE THINKING OF BUYING Zeus's THUNDER STICK. WITHOUT A DOUBT, one of the most durable bats on the market, don't believe me? Stick a regular maple bat and this ball buster in freezing Temps in a car, and hit with it against a machine the next day that throws 95+. You will find out quickly which one you will be picking up all over the hitting facility. Here's a hint, it ain't the thunder stick. I got mine when I was still a junior in high school, which is eons (four years ago). So far it's got more hits on it than a viral cat video, it's been through weather that would make other maple bats run away back to Canada. I layed it to rest for almost a year, and like the messiah, it rose from the dead and DROPPED JAWS, it made people around the world believers. Buy this if you are the one to grab the bull by the horns and ride that sorry son of a what to victory.

Mac
Which model is better? The DX110 or the DX243? impact21
The DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Bat (DX243) features the turn model 243. The 243 turn model is typically preferred by power hitters because the design allows the bat have an end loaded feel. The 110 turn model, featured in the DeMarini DX110, features more of balanced feel that contact hitters like. It is a great transitional bat for a player going from a BBCOR bat to a wood bat. Both models are great, it just depends on whether you prefer a balanced bat or an end loaded bat.
Tessa L.
How heavy is the 32 inch bat? Diffner
The DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Bat (DX243) Adult wood bat is anywhere from -2 to -3 ounces in weight. Same goes for the other DX models of DeMarini wood bats. The 32 would weight 29-30 ounces.
Aaron
Does this bat or the DX271 have more pop? Which bat has the largest sweet spot? Ocmnog
Both the DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Bat (DX243) and the DX271 will have the same "pop," as they are the exact same maple material in the barrel. The DX243 will have a slightly larger sweet spot which gives it an end loaded feel, whereas the DX271 has a balanced swing.
Justin R.
What is the difference between the D243 and the S243 Pro Maple Composite Wood Bats? rick
Both the DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Bat (DX243) and the DeMarini Pro Maple Wood Composite BBCOR Bat (S243) will feature a turn model similar to the 243 so they will have a slightly end-loaded feel but other than that they are very different. The S243 is a two-piece hybrid that had a composite material handle fused to a wood barrel. The DX243 is a one-piece design that is a composite wood material with a synthetic coating over it. The difference in design will mean more flex with the S243 and a stiffer feel with the DX243. Also, the S243 will help prevent sting and vibration a bit better than the DX243.
Patrick
What is the difference between the DX243 and the DX271? Which bat would be an easier to transition to from metal bats? JL3
The difference between the DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Bat (DX243) and the DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Bat (DX271) would be the type of turn model used. The 271 would be more balanced whereas the 243 would be more end-loaded. The 271 would be closer to what a BBCOR bat would feel like.
Patrick
Is the DeMarini Pro Maple (DX243) suppose to be solid or is there a liner inside the barrel? Bobbaluga
The DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Bat (DX243) will have a solid maple wood barrel with no liner.
Kelby
I am thinking about getting a this bat. I was wondering which Marucci model is this similar to? baseballguy17242
The DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat (DX243) features a 243 turn model. For the most part, most of the Marucci models have a balanced swing weight, unlike the end loaded DX243. The two models that would be closest to the 243 turn model would be the Jose Reyes model (JR7) or the Carlos Beltran model (CB15).
Tessa
Which bat is more likely to break: The 271 or 243? Emanishere
Both the DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat (DX243 Adult) and the DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat (DX271 Adult) will be very durable bats. Neither one of them is going to be more durable then the other though.
Cooper
Would you say that the 243 is better than the new PAPI34 model from Marucci? mr.october44
Comparing the Marucci David Ortiz Maple Wood Baseball Bat (PAPI34) and the DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat (DX243) is difficult because they are very different. The David Ortiz is a more traditional maple bat while the DX243 is a maple composite bat. The DX243 may have a bit more durability but the PAPI34 would be more widely accepted in wood bat leagues or tournaments.
Patrick
What's the barrel diameter? Evelito17
The DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat (DX243) will feature an approximate 2 5/8" barrel diameter.
Tessa
Overall, would a composite bat have more pop than a traditional all wood baseball bat? RC
The DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat (DX243) Adult could be considered a hybrid model, since it features a Pro Grade Maple barrel and a composite wood handle. When comparing this model to a composite barreled bat, the composite bat would have more pop than the wood bat would. BBCOR stands for "Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution." This standard regulates how much energy is lost during the bat's contact with the baseball. The higher the number a bat registers in the test, the more trampoline effect it has. The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) decided that 0.50 would be the maximum value a BBCOR bat could achieve; which is only slightly higher than that of a wood bat. Because of the slightly higher BPF rating, a composite bat will have more pop than a wood bat will.

Is it legal for high school play? John
The DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat (DX243) is BBCOR certified making it legal for high school play.
Patrick
Could this be used in a independent league ? Kolton
Depending on your league regulations. I would contact the board or the coach to see if the DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat (DX243 Adult) would be legal in your interdependent league.

What is the difference between the Demarini D243 and the D271? steve
The size specifics that make the shape of the bats such as the barrel diameter, taper, handle width, etc. make the DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat (DX243) and the DeMarini Pro Maple Wood Baseball Bat (DX271) different. The 243 is more end-loaded and the 271 is more balanced.
Patrick
Do you offer the 34 inch DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat DX243? I don't see this option of length on the web site. Sam Kason
While the DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat (DX243) was made in that size, we do not have any in stock. We only have the 31 inch, 32 inch and 33 inch sizes.
Patrick
How vulnerable are these bats to breaking? adrian266
The DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat (DX243 Adult) is a very durable composite wood baseball bat. The composite wood handle helps this bat avoid breaking when the ball is hit off-center. If you were to hit a ball of the handle there is a chance it could break but it does come with a Full Three (3) Month Manufacturer's Warranty.
Cameron
What is its weight to length ratio on the DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat (DX243) Adult? Omar

My son is concerned his new S243 Pro Maple Wood Composite bat won't be allowed in his 18U, Wood-Bat Connie Mack League. Do you think the bat will be legal? T & B
This DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat (DX243 Adult) and the S243 will both be composite wood models that will feature all maple-wood shells on the barrels. However, the handles and cores of each bat will feature differing materials that are designed to make the bat more durable. I would guess that the bat is legal, but there are some leagues that do not permit composite wood baseball bats like this DX243 and the S243. It would be good to check with a coach or league official before using the bat just to ensure legality.
Ben
I recently purchased the S243 composite bat for my son and I was wondering if it needed a break-in period or any special instructions prior to using it in a game? The other thing we were wondering is label position when hitting? Jim
The DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat: DX243 Adult does not require a break-in period. It will be hot out of the wrapper. It is typically going to be best to keep the label of the bat face up or face down.
Jason
I have two DX243 bats and both have an obvious vibrating broken bat sound when dropped after the hit. Why? Teammates, umpires, everyone seems to comment on it telling me how horribly it sounds. Please don't tell me about an inside pitch doing damage. I invested in the composite bat to handle that, if and when. Again, why does this bat tend to exhibit this loud broken bat sound when dropped? It's an embarrassment. JT
The DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat: DX243 Adult, although featuring a composite wood handle, can still break from off-centered hits. DeMarini does offer a 3 month manufacturer's warranty if a bat were to become defective. The vibrating sound you are experiencing is more than likely a result of the handle starting to loosen from the barrel as these bats are not one-piece solid wood construction.

My son is 13, 5'8" and 120 lbs. (1) What size should I get? (2) What is the difference between the DX271 model and the DX243 model? (3) Do you sell the 271 model? (4) Would either of these be a good bat for him? ts
(1) Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general suggestion of getting a -3 bat in the 31" or 32" sizes. (2) The DX271 will be a well balanced bat while this DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat (DX243 Adult) will be more end-loaded. (3) Unfortunately, we no longer sell the DX271. (4) If he is more of a contact hitter, I would suggest the DX271. If he is more of a power hitter, I would recommend the DX243.
Ben
Please provide a comparison to Baum composite wood bats. What is the difference? How about sweet spot? smaier6
This DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat (DX243 Adult) will differ from Baum Bats because it has a Composite Wood Handle to provide reinforced durability. The Baum Bat has a Composite Reinforcement Surrounding Core that runs the length of the bat that provides the extra durability. As well, this DeMarini has a maple barrel while the the Baum Bat has an ash wood barrel. In regard to sweet spot, it will be really hard to measure sweet spot between two different brands of bats, but I would imagine both will have decent sized sweet spots.
Ben
Under bat features this page it's listed as 2 1/2" but under bat properties, bottom of this same page, it's listed as 2 5/8". Which is it? Ken
The DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat: DX243 Adult is a 243 turn model and will feature a 2 5/8" barrel diameter.
Cameron
I'm 5'9" and 175 lbs (contact hitter). Would this be a good bat for my size? Would this suit me or is there something else more up my alley? Cole525
Based upon your height and weight, I would make a suggestion of the 32" length of adult wood bat. This DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat (DX243 Adult) will actually be more end-loaded in its feel. Therefore, I suggest this bat more often for power hitters. To get a more balanced version of the Pro Maple Composite bat, I would look to the DX110 Adult.
Ben
Which goes farther, a maple wood bat or a maple composite bat? Lex
A DeMarini Pro Maple Composite Wood Baseball Bat: DX243 Adult will not outperform a wood bat that is made from a solid piece of maple. What differentiates this bat is the composite wood handle. This allows a hitter to get away with more missed-hits before potentially breaking the bat. For example, a ball that is hit off the end of this bat will not likely crack the handle whereas a natural maple bat will likely be broken, even after one swing.

About the Brand

In 1992, DeMarini Sports had something to celebrate. The three-year-old company had climbed a rung on the proverbial ladder of success, moving its world headquarters from a dirt-floored barn to a slightly larger metal shack. "It was a big move for us," recalled Ray DeMarini from the batting cage of DeMarini Sport’s present-day Bat Industrial Complex. "The new shop was larger, more storm resistant, and -best of all- it had a heater."

In the early days, DeMarini Sports hardly made a blip on the radar screen of softball. With no retailers and virtually no advertising budget, DeMarini grew steadily by selling high-performance bats directly to customers. While established companies made "juiced" bats for the pros and ordinary bats for the public, DeMarini focused on making one line of high-performance bats for pros and amateurs alike. This approach, combined with a passion for the sport, led to the greatest innovation in softball history - the world’s first multi-wall bat: the DeMarini Doublewall.

Released in 1993, the DeMarini Doublewall was the world’s first multi-wall bat. Like a modern golf driver or oversized tennis racket, the Doublewall had a giant "sweetspot," which allowed average players to hit like pros. DeMarini’s sales exploded, and before long opposing bat manufacturers to notice. DeMarini - a homegrown company led by a softball fanatic - had shaken the establishment silly.

To understand the rise of the DeMarini Dynasty, you need to know Ray DeMarini. A cult hero among avid players, Ray DeMarini emerged on the professional softball scene at the age of 40, a veritable geriatric among younger players. With a scientific approach to training, a batting speed of 96 miles-per-hour and a bombastic attitude, DeMarini fast earned a reputation as a savage competitor.

In June of 1987, ESPN launched a nationwide search for a hardcore player to advise on a series of instructional softball videos. When approached by producer Erich Lytle, the biggest boys in softball repeatedly spoke of a five-foot-seven softball giant—Ray DeMarini. DeMarini had mastered reflex hitting, a technique that drops the ball squarely between the infield and outfield. Impressed with DeMarini's knowledge and scientific approach to training, Lytle not only hired Ray as an advisor—he hired him as the host. Together, they produced Ray DeMarini's Reflex Hitting System, ESPN's most successful home video to date.

Having garnered national recognition through ESPN, Ray turned his efforts toward designing a high-performance bat for the masses. To accomplish this, he needed an engineer. "Not just an engineer," he said, "but a boot-strapping rocket scientist who could build an empire with pocket change." Ray's call was answered by Mike Eggiman. Having grown up on a farm, Eggiman was adept at making the most of a situation. Case in point: the company's first piece of automated bat-making equipment had the heart of an abandoned washing machine.

With Eggiman as Chief Engineer, DeMarini Sports delivered a series of industry firsts: the first multi-wall bat (Doublewall Distance), the first high-performance bat for massive players (Fatboy) and the first high-performance youth bat (Black Coyote).

In 2000, DeMarini joined forces with Wilson Sporting Goods to develop the next generation of hitting technology. Ray believed it was a perfect fit, as both companies shared a vision of developing game-enhancing equipment for avid players. What’s more, the companies had complimentary products: Wilson was the leader in gloves, balls and protective gear, while DeMarini made the world’s finest bats. According to Chris Considine, Vice President/General Manager of Wilson Sporting Goods: "The thing that struck me most about DeMarini was their passion for sports and their true competitiveness.

Within a year, DeMarini unveiled the industry’s first concept bat, the $35,000 F1. Secured under lock and key at the DeMarini Bat Industrial Complex in Hillsboro, Oregon, the F1 served as a technological storehouse for future products, including DeMarini’s landmark Half & Half system.

In December 2001, 12 years after the genesis of DeMarini Sports, Ray DeMarini died of cancer in his Northwest Portland home. He was 55. The next summer, the Portland Metro Softball Association paid homage to the “King of Softball” with the dedication of Ray DeMarini Field. Formerly known as Delta #1, the field was DeMarini’s favorite place to test bats during the early days of business. Ray DeMarini—bat maker and player extraordinaire—was remembered for his high-performance softball bats and unwavering encouragement of everyday players. Today, a 40-foot sign announcing RAY DEMARINI FIELD graces the outfield, and an interpretive display chronicling Ray’s life greets players as they register for games.

More "Insane Dedication to Performance" is in store for tomorrow.
