The Easton S1: JBB13S1 Junior Big Barrel is made for ages 8 years and under and for Coach Pitch Leagues only. If you are participating in kid pitch leagues you should try this bat. Easton S1: SL13S110 Senior League bat. It will feature the same technolgy and make up but will be made more durable for kid pitch use. The barrel will be 2 5/8" in diameter. This bat will require a period of break-in. 100-200 swings off of a tee or soft toss while turning the barrel slightly after each hit will work just fine.

The Easton S1: JBB13S1 Junior Big Barrel is designed for coach pitch only and the largest size available is a 28". The Easton S1: SL13S110 Senior League would be a better option. The largest length to weight ratio that Junior Big Barrel are produced in is a -12, like this Easton S1 Baseball Bat: JBB13S1 Junior Big Barrel. So the 27" 15 oz. model would be the lightest we carry for a 27" model. You could consider going down an inch to help increase his swing speed, which I am sure is still on his recommend size range from Bat Coach.

The Easton S1 Baseball Bat: JBB13S1 Junior Big Barrel is the 2013 model while the JBB11S1 is the 2012 model. They both contain the IMX Composite material and have a balanced swing weight. Unfortunately, because both models are discontinued, we do not expect to add any more back into inventory.

But the barrel walls of the Junior Big Barrel models are designed for Coach Pitch and pitch speeds that do not exceed 40 mph. If the bat is used to hit pitches around or great than 40 mph, durability will be compromised.

The Easton Speed Series and specifically the Easton S1 is a great option for helping a player generate bat speed. However, the model you are looking at is intended for coach pitch style play. The pitch speeds in kid pitch level of play would cause structural damage to this bat. You would want to look into either the Youth model (YB14S1) or the Senior League model (SL14S110) depending on the barrel size allowed in your league. .

Easton makes some of the more popular bats in the Junior BIg Barrel size. Namely, the Easton XL3: JBB13X3 Junior Big Barrel, the Easton S1 Baseball Bat: JBB13S1 Junior Big Barrel, and the 2014 Easton MAKO: JBB14MK Junior Big Barrel. Any of those bats would be great.

This Easton S1 Baseball Bat (JBB13S1) Junior Big Barrel bat is not approved in any division of Babe Ruth baseball because it has a composite barrel and one that is 2 3/4" barrel diameter. Babe Ruth allows a maximum barrel diameter of 2 5/8". And any big barrel bat that features a composite barrel must feature the BBCOR performance certification mark which neither this bat or the Senior League model feature.

The Easton S1 Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB13S1) is going to be very similar to the 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB). Both bats feature a similar grade composite as well as a well-balanced swing weight. The largest difference between the two is that the Mako has a longer barrel, which will result in a larger sweet spot. If you have experienced good results with the S1, we would recommend staying with it.
