Disappointed so far Scott parent

Pros: Good overall feel and balance.

Cons: Sounds plastic when it hits the ball. Dull thud. The ball just doesn't seem to come off this bat as well as others. My son just can't get the hang of this thing. He just goes back to his Worth bat from last year. That thing sounds like hitting steel pipe with a hammer- *ping!*

27 LJ parent

Pros: it's hard to find a 27" 14 oz durable youth bat (as opposed to a t-ball bat prone to denting). It's light and seems to be well-constructed.

Cons: The 17"/14 oz version is mostly handle and very little barrel. It has a very long narrow portion extending from the handle and then a very small sweet spot. This results in lots of vibration. When my son hits it square it can have some pop, but for a 7-year-old those times are few and far between. There are better options for your littlest guys and gals.

My 6 year old loves this bat! Dustin coach

Pros: My son is only 6 and one of the smallest on the team and he is now ripping them into the outfield. I bought the 26 in 16 oz bat and it seems to be perfect.

Cons: All the kids on the team use his bat! Lol

Not too bad... ben player

Pros: Used the 31-21 version. Great pop, ball jumps off the bat. Has a great feel in your hands. Vibration is not an issue.

Cons: Several dents in the barrel after first season of use.

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Assault Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat: YBAS14-RX? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Can this bat be used in kid pitch with speeds of 30 to 48mph? Mat
We do not recommend using Junior Big Barrel bats for kid pitch, as they are not designed to be durable enough for it. Junior Big Barrel bats are designed for tee ball and coach pitch.
Tori
Can you explain the difference between 2014 Louisville Slugger Assault YBAS14-RX Junior Big Barrel versus the 2014 Louisville Slugger Assault SLAS14-RX Senior League? Is it only wall thickness? Or is one end loaded? Coach Robert
The balanced, one piece alloy design of these bats will be the same. However, the Louisville Slugger Assault (YBAS14-RX) Junior Big Barrel bat is intended for coach pitch style play with slow pitch speeds. The Senior League model (SLAS14-RX) is made for players facing pitching from other players. The thickness of the barrel wall of the Junior Big Barrel model would not be able to withstand pitch speeds at that level.
Patrick
Can you make this bat in a 32? Baseball freak
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Assault (YBAS14-RX) is a Junior Big Barrel, which is made for coach pitch or machine pitch leagues. If you need a 32" model, you will probably want to go with the Senior League Assault (SLAS14-RX ).

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
