Description

The Louisville Slugger M9 maple wood bat is well known on baseball diamonds everywhere. Louisville Slugger uses professional grade, hand-picked maple to make this bat. Maple is a very dense timber with a greater surface hardness than ash, leading many players to believe it gives them a sizable bump in performance. Maple wood is a very close-grained timber, and this unique grain structure prevents the barrel from flaking. The quality of timber used by Louisville Slugger on these bats is second to none, making for a very high quality product. The M9 maple is also kiln dried for optimum moisture content. The pro cupped end on these M9 maple bats is ideal for controlling the weight for maximum bat speed, since maple can tend to be a bit heavier. The medium barrel offers one of the best sweet spots possible without compromising durability. The strength of the maple bats make them perfect for high school, college, adult, minor leagues, and major leagues. The number of major leaguers using maple wood bats has increased each year as their performance and durability have been unmatched. Louisville Slugger: The Official Bat of Major League Baseball. awesome bat with great price JLO player

Pros: This bat has an awesome balanced feel to it. Its definitely one of the lighter wood bats on the market. Its pop is great and has a giant sweetspot. This bat is great for people switching from aluminum to wood. I also really like the thin handle and flared knob. Ive taken multiple balls to the handle and it hasnt snapped. Its a very durable bay but not taking the pop away from it. Overall this bat is GREAT. I advise anyone to get this bat.

Cons: There was some large grain spots on it but it didn't affect the performance so who cares.

Louisville Slugger M9 Maple Wood GREAT BAT! Mstang10 coach

Pros: Great look, great pop, kids love it, hard wood Maple so ball sounds good off the bat, popular with High School Team Mates.

Cons: A little slick finish on handle so Lizard Skin wrap or other needed. 2nd purchase...first one lasted almost a full wood bat season before it cracked.

Louisville Slugger M9 Maple Wood Baseball Bat: Paul Anderson player

Pros: Great Look and Feel, Suggest Lizard Skin Wrap or equal as handle a little slick. Great pop, Second bat for two seasons so for me at least it will last a season. Need to keep clean as finish on the bat leaves deep ball marks if you can hit a ton! Love the bat!

Cons: Last me one season before cracking! I did go right back and get another! Love the bat and my teammates also.

Jason
Is this bat good for a 13 year old entering Babe Ruth League? What's the difference between this bat and the M9C271BHC? jacarly
This Louisville Slugger M9 Maple Wood Bat (WBM914-71CBH) is the newest version of the M9 271 turn model from Slugger while the (M9C271BHC) is the discontinued version. Aside from a slight change in the logos on the barrel, these two bats are the same. Louisville Slugger changed their logos last year and changed all of their bat models to reflect this. For players in the 15-18 year old divisions, this would be a great wood bat option. It conforms to BBCOR testing but does not need a BBCOR stamp, as it's made from one solid piece of Maple. For the specific requirements of your league, it's best to check with a coach or league director.
Mac
If I were to purchase this bat would I make contact with the ball on the logo face side since it is a maple bat? Ace
When swinging the Louisville Slugger M9 Maple Wood Bat (WBM914-71CBH) we advise having the label face straight up towards the sky or straight down towards the ground.
Sean
I read somewhere that on ash bats you want to hit against the grain (on the straight lines that are close together), and that on maple bats you want to hit on the grain (on the ovally, curved lines that are spaced far apart). If this is true, then would the "labels up" rule not apply to this bat, since the labels are on the grain? Austin
The "label up rule" applies to all styles of wood bat. The manufacturer ensures that the hardest part of the bat is hitting the ball when this method is used.
Patrick
What is the drop on this bat? Ken
The Louisville Slugger M9 Maple Wood Baseball Bat (WBM914-71CBH) will have an approximate -2 length to weight ratio.
Brandon

Based on your height and weight, we would suggest a 32 inch size of the Louisville Slugger M9 Maple Wood Baseball Bat (WBM914-71CBH).
Patrick
Can I use this wood bat in high school games? Dijon
Yes, you can. The Louisville Slugger M9 Maple Wood Baseball Bat (WBM914-71CBH) will not surpass any of the requirements that the BBCOR performance certification requires. It does not require the BBCOR stamp because it is made of one piece of solid maple wood.
Mac
What do bat do you recommend for a 14 year old, using wood bat for first time. He is 5 foot 6 and 127 pounds? Doc
I would say for a first time wood bat user, the idea would be to go with something more balanced like a 110 or C271 turn model like the Louisville Slugger M9 Maple Wood Baseball Bat (WBM914-71CBH). This will keep the swing as easy as possible.
Patrick
What bat do you recommend if I wanted a 2 5/8" barrel? weio2
If you're looking for the larger barrel, I'd recommend the Louisville Slugger M9 Maple Wood Baseball Bat (M9I13B Adult). I'd also take a look at the Louisville Slugger MLB Prime Maple Black Matte Wood Baseball Bat (WBVMI13-BM Adult). Both bats will offer a larger barrel as they are I13 turn models.
John H
What would be the weight on a 33" bat? slugger
The Louisville Slugger M9 Maple Wood Baseball Bat (WBM914-71CBH) features an approximate -3, so a 33" bat will approximately weigh 30 oz.
Liz
What is the equivalent to this model that has been discontinued? This bat his a light feel with a ton of pop. I can't find this bat anywhere now. It seems the newer M9 c271 models are a tad heavier. WBM914-71CBH C-Gar
While there is not a direct replacement, I would say that the 2017 Louisville Slugger Select C271 Series 7 Maple Wood Baseball Bat (WTLW7M271A16) Adult is going to be an extremely similar bat and a good one for you to check out.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
