Description

Louisville Slugger's formula of quality wood, impeccable attention to detail, and experienced craftsmanship has solidified their name in the game of baseball. This season, Louisville is going to take their wood bats to the next level with the MLB Hybrid. This design features a Black Rubbertech handle, and a natural, Veneer maple wood barrel. The Rubbertech coating used on the handle not only looks cool, but also feels great and gives the MLB Hybrid a firm, tacky grip. Inside, a two-piece carbon fiber rod makes up the backbone of this bat and is a complete game changer. This rod runs through the center of the barrel and handle to provide incredible durability, while the full maple construction gives this bat the sound, feel, balance, and performance of a true maple bat. This two-piece rod also eliminates the sting that wood bats tend to have on off-center hits. The MLB Hybrid is cut into an I13 turn, just like the model used by MLB All-Star Evan Longoria. It has a large barrel, long taper, and a 15/16 inch handle with a slightly flared knob. No other wood composite bat looks, feels, sounds, or performs more like a wood bat than the MLB Hybrid! Louisville Slugger: The Official Bat of Major League Baseball! The MLB Hybrid is BBCOR Certified and legal for high school and collegiate play. It is backed by a Full 120 Day Warranty. Good bat Lee player

Pros: Great pop. Cant even feel the ball off the bat. Hit a few off the end that would normally have broken a normal wood bat but this one is still going.

Cons: Does have a rattle to it but I believe that is the two piece rod design that makes it rattle when you tap the handle on the ground. The baums have a rod down the whole bat so it doesnt rattle at all.

Gave it a shot Ryan player

Pros: My baum finally broke after three years. Went bat shopping and couldn't believe their price increase so I then came across the LS mlb hybrid. For $80 less I figured Id give it a shot. First bp session I was amazed. Like the other reviews great pop. I was batting in 40 degree weather with cold hands and it felt better than many other bats. Grip surprisingly feels really good, no need for gloves or pine tar. Besides bp and couple games I guess only time will tell how well it will hold up. Doubt it can last a Baum life but I'm very happy with purchase so far. From personal experience I'd recommend it to people on the fence about it.

Cons: So far so good

Wow! Ziggy player

Pros: I'm an adult who's new to playing baseball. I've tried a few bats but since I can't possibly hit on the sweet spot every time I get a lot of sting. I have a bamboo bat that actually injured my hand! This bat? Amazing! Zero sting. And nice pop. I've only just gotten it and already I've had four base hits.

Cons: None that I know of but I haven't had it for very long.

Solid bat Jimmy player

Pros: Play in an +18 league in Birmingham, AL. Honest opinion it's this or the DeMarini DX243. Both are OUTSTANDING. They don't break PERIOD. Baums are great but these are just as good. Both are still in use after 2+ years respectively and against consistent 80-90mph pitching. Pop is there., durability is a non-issue. Do yourself a favor and save money over time from breaking other bats.

Cons: None. These are what you want. My teammates are my true testimonials and they LOVE this bat.

Cons: lack of variety of models and colors it is breakable broke mine after 2.5 years of use on a 85mph fastball off the handle but still could be used as a BP bat after a tape job

Which bat has more of a normal wood bat sound and feel: this one or the Baum? Rattle
That is tough to say since both bats are very similar in design. The Louisville Slugger MLB Hybrid Maple Composite Wood Bat (BBHY14-13NNA) and the Baum Bat Composite Wood Bat (AAA) both feature a core (either made of carbon fiber or a foamed plastic material, respectively) that is surrounded by wood. Due to the differences in wood type used in the outer shell, they will sound and feel slightly different from each other. We do offer audio on both bats being hit. You can check that out on each product page.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
