Description

For over 125 years, Louisville Slugger has been providing reliable wood bats to baseball players across the country. Their Pro Stock ash wood bats can be spotted on nearly every field from youth leagues to the major leagues. Pound per pound, ash is the strongest timber available. It also has a flexibility and lightweight feel that is not found in other timbers like maple. The PSC243B has a C243 turn and an approximate -3 length to weight ratio. It features a large barrel with a nice sweet spot and a pro cupped end. The barrel has a medium taper that goes down into a thin 15/16 inch handle that ends in a slightly flared, medium-sized knob. This cut tends to be a little end-loaded and is usually preferred by power hitters. Its black handle and natural barrel finish provides a look that is very popular among today's players. Pros: Great bat with a great feel. Large barrel that gives the end-weighted feel I like. And several guys on my 18 and over wood bat league.

Cons: Several guys on my team like my bat and end up using it. I don't even get to warm up with it in the batters box with the guy before and after me using it. It may be the same wood as the pros but it definitely has more grains than their bats. This leads to breaking often. I've gone through four or five of these already. One lasted many games but the rest don't last more than two or three.

Pros: This is a good bat. It has great pop, feels well balanced and its cheap.

Cons: I bought two of these bats. First day of bp, the first bat shattered in half at the handle about 10-15 pitches in. I did hit it off the cap, but not very hard. The next bat I swung a lot more carefully, however, I still managed to get two cracks running down the side of the bat. All hits were in the sweet spot on this bat. So it may tend to break easily, buy in bulk!

Pros: this bat hap pretty good pop but the thing that was great was how it had no sting even when I hit off of the handle. It feels pretty light in my hands and I have pretty good bat speed with it. For the price I definitely recommend this bat.

Cons: Not many yet, but I haven't really been using it for that long of a time so I don't know yet.

Pros: cool bat

Cons: this bat gives some major vibrations unless you hit it on the sweet spot. had to get some Buzz Off for that. This bat chips wayyyyy to easily also. I wouldn't recommend it but is your looking for a cheap bat and no pay off from it this bat is made for you.

Pros: Good feel. Good for batting practice and tee work. Decent ash for the money. It has a slight end load since it is cupped ash (In comparison a non-cupped maple 243 may weigh 2 even 3 ounces more than this bat would and would have much more end load). If you know how to hit with wood, this bat might last a season or two...maybe

Cons: It won't last long in the upper levels of competitive baseball. It is not "pro stock" ash. Premature flaking, uneven spacing between grain lines, grain slope doesn't meet MLB requirements etc, etc. I recommend the Louisville MLB prime series. It will last much longer and is much heavier (meaning its better wood) than Louisville "pro stock".

The lowest weight will be around 28-29 ounces.
KG
is it good for my 13 year old child who can swing a -3 no problem??? homerun hitter
Yes, I would recommend using a ash wood bat for a player that can swing a -3. Wood bats do feel slightly heavier than a alloy or composite -3 bat, I would suggest having him use it in a batting cage before if he has not hit with a wood bat previously to get use to the feel
John
Whats the heaviest this bat is featured in? slugger123
This bat has an approximate -3 drop. With that being said, the heaviest it will be offered in is 31 ounces (on the 34 inch bat). Keep in mind that is an approximate weight since this is a wood bat.
Jennifer
Would you reccomend this bat or the M9 for someone who is a power hitter playing in high school for an all wood bat leauge? Zach
A lot comes down to your personal preference. The M9 is maple and may be a little more durable than the PSC243B, which is ash. With ash, the ball feels a little softer coming off the bat and it won't have as much vibration. Some power hitters in the MLB use ash, but a lot use maple.
Tyler
is it top heavy? is it light? wd
The Louisville Slugger Ash Pro Stock Wood Bat: PSC243B is going to be more on the top heavy side because it is a 243 turn model. Because this bat is ash, it will be a little lighter than a similar bat made from maple.
Nick D

Can I get a bat with a historic player's name on it" Del Ennis (a Phillies Whiz Kid of 1950)? Shad
Unfortunately, we do not have the capabilities to customize bats. I would recommend contacting Louisville directly at 1-800-282-2287.
Tyler
What is the barrel size Louisville Slugger labels "Large barrel" & "Medium barrel"? BDC
A "large barrel" on a wood bat typically means it's around 2.52" to 2.58". A "medium barrel" indicates that bat has a barrel of about 2.5".
Tyler
Does this bat qualify for American Legion Baseball? philly phlyin
Yes! According to the 2012 American Legion Rules, "wood bats must not exceed 42 inches in length and 2 3/4 inches in diameter.' The Louisville Slugger Ash Pro Stock Bat is 2 5/8, so it will qualify!
Damon
Is it true that this bat will break the first time or do these people not no how to hit? muhamad
Wood bats can be unpredictable, and it takes quite a bit of practice to learn how to hit with wood, and proper plate discipline. Many players have wood bats that last them well over 2 or 3 months.
Tyler

The Louisville Slugger Ash Pro Stock Wood Bat: PSC243B is an adult bat with a large barrel around 2.56".

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
