Yes, the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL: SL13AXL Senior League bat will require a period of break-in. It will be a two-piece composite designed bat. 100-200 swings off of a hitting tee or soft toss while rotating the barrel should work fine.

The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX Senior League bat is a two-piece hybrid with a composite handle and alloy barrel. This bat is designed to be balanced and have a lighter swing weight than a full alloy bat. Contact hitters typically gravitate towards the composite bats as opposed to the alloy.

What is the temperature limits on these bats? Are there bat warmers that make these bats usable in the lower temps? Phil
You should use caution when temperatures are below 55 degrees. This does not mean you can't use the bat, you just need to limit the number of overall hits on it. Lower temperatures actually effect the hardness of the core of the baseball, not that bat. There is no hard evidence that says bat sleeves and warmers protect the bat from cracking in colder weather.

My son is going to play travel ball and is allowed to use a 2 3/4" bat, but I have heard that the Easton S1 Senior League is better but is only 2 5/8". Is there a big difference? balldawg
Both the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL: Senior League and the 2013 Easton S1: Senior League are great bats. I would check in to how long he can use the 2 3/4" barrel. If it is longer than a year I would go with the 2 3/4". You wouldn't want to purchase the smaller diameter after just a short while.

If your previous Youth Attack bat broke while under warranty, Louisville Slugger should replace it for you with your receipt. They may be able to help exchange to the Senior League model as well. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL: SL13AXL Senior League would not be approved for a fastpitch softball league. For fastpitch softball, you would need a bat that was stamped with the USSSA BPF 1.20 stamp instead of the 1.15 stamp on this bat. Also, the barrel diameter is too large. Composite bats such as the Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL (SL13AXL) should never bee rolled. This is illegal and will also void the warranty. The best way to break-in a bat is to take 100-200 swings off a tee or soft toss. Rotate the barrel 1/4" each swing.

My son is playing U9 kid pitch travel. He has an aggressive swing; he is currently using a 27" 17 oz. Easton V12. Do you think a 29" 19 oz. is too much jump for him or should he stick with the 28" 18 oz. in this bat? Will there be a big performance difference between this and the 2014 attack XL? studsa
There are some key differences between the Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL13AXL) and the 2014 model. The 2014 Louisville Slugger Attack (SLAT14-RX) uses flex bend technology for a low swing weight and a huge sweet spot. The new three-piece Tru-3 technology also helps reduce the vibration to the handle. With regard to sizing, that will be a matter of preference. Generally, you want to swing the longest and heaviest bat that you can comfortably and consistently control. If he did well with the 27" model, there is nothing to say that he couldn't make the jump to a 29" comfortably. Ultimately, it will come down to his overall strength as well as bat speed.

About the Brand
In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.
After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.
The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.
The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.
