Description

It's time to step up and attack the diamond, because the two-piece composite just changed forever! Louisville Slugger proudly introduces their new two-piece composite bat suitably named the TPX Attack. The Attack debuts Louisville Slugger's new two-piece T2 Technology. This revolutionary new transition technology strengthens the link between the barrel and handle to give the Attack a trampoline spring and virtually eliminates vibration on contact. This straighter, thicker rubber ring results in a bat that is not only sturdier, but gives players an unparalleled feel of the ball jumping off the bat. Vibration from mishits are absorbed before they reach the player's hands, allowing players to be more consistent with their hitting. The Attack is constructed from Louisville Slugger's LS-2X Composite that uses thinner, high-strength and lightweight graphite fibers to add more layers to the barrel for reinforced strength, while reducing the overall thickness of the barrel wall. More pop, less weight: that's the formula for better performance AND durability. With a balanced swing weight and an easy to grip 7/8 inch standard handle, this bat will have hitters ATTACKING the strike zone like never before! Louisville Slugger: Be the Best, or Swing the Rest! The Attack features the new USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp and is approved for play. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: I bought this bat for my 7 yr old to use in USSSA. It is a 28/18. We have always been a Easton XL1 fan, but I wanted him to swing a 2 3/4" instead of the 2 1/4. This is a well balanced bat and has amazing pop right out of the wrapper. The sweet spot appears to be a slightly smaller than the XL1, but for the first weekend to own it, I could not be more impressed. There is little to no vibration on miss hits. I can't wait to see this bat in action after a couple of months of batting practice. So far we are LOVING it...

Cons: It's price $300.00, but work every penny after the first deep shot.

Pros: The bat has a lot of pop, and is durable

Cons: My son prefers a very balanced bat. I don't know if it is the bigger barrel, the end loading, or what, but my son's bat speed is much slower with this bat. My son is a small framed 13 year old who normally is a very good hitter. He went two tournaments with this bat and absolutely couldn't hit. He switched back to his Omaha of the same weight and length and went 3 for 3 in the championship game. He absolutely hates this bat. Was a waste of money for us.

Pros: Seemed to have pretty good pop initially. Looks great.

Cons: 6 kids in our Select league have this same bat. 5 of the 6 bats have cracked or had small chunks of the metal knocked off the bats. All have returned. Just returned mine, going to try the Vertex and see if it holds up better. This bat also has a VERY small sweet spot.

Pros: great graphics, good looking bat

Cons: my son is a pretty good hitter and has used LS almost exclusively ever since the old blue catalyst bat ruled the market 5 or 6 years ago. This bat is NO blue catalyst bat! LS calls this a "balanced bat" yet my son says that it has a very end loaded feel to it. The bat does have a micro sweet spot. To be fair my son went from a 31" -10 to a 32" -10 but I wouldn't think that would throw off his swing as much as this bat does. Bottom line...this bat is a miss for LS. I will eat the $$$ this time and move on to the DM CF5 or combat B-4.

Great Bat Mr. Excitement parent

Pros: I was a little apprehensive about buying this bat for my son since my experience with the H2 and his experience with the H2 and Catalyst haven't been all that great. I've been a Louisville Slugger guy all my life and love the Omaha's, Air Attacks ect from the mid 90's. This bat hits the mark. It is well balanced, has a nice sweet spot, gives no negative feedback (according to my son) and has a great grip. He is absolutely destroying the ball with this bat....a far cry from the struggles he had with the Catalyst last season. I bought this along with a CF6, but he has yet to take the CF6 out of the wrapper. This is a tremendous bargain at $119. The bat has restored my faith in Louisville Slugger so much that we're headed to Columbus OH on the 25th of this month to swing the 2014 Attack at National Demo Day.

Cons: Have yet to find one. The durability question will remain to be answered since we've only had the bat about a month.

Lack Luster Matt K parent

Pros: Low vibration

Cons: Small sweet spot. Broke after about 6 months. Had a catalyst and when it broke under warranty they sent this as a replacement. Took over 2 weeks for Louisville Slugger to even process the warranty after they got it. This was the middle of the season. Disappointing customer service and after breaking 2nd bat in just over a year we won't buy another Louisville Slugger.

Pros: My son liked the bat. it was a perfect fit for him.

How does the 2013 Louisville Slugger Attack (Senior League) compare to the 2013 DeMarini CF5 (Senior League)? iuhitter
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL: SL13AXL has a 2 3/4" barrel. The 2013 DeMarini CF5: DXCFX has a 2 5/8" barrel. Both bats are 100% composite and be one of the best Senior League models this year.
Marcus A.
Do you have to break in this bat for the performance? Chuck
Yes, the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL: SL13AXL Senior League bat will require a period of break-in. It will be a two-piece composite designed bat. 100-200 swings off of a hitting tee or soft toss while rotating the barrel should work fine.
Brandon
How is the balance of the Attack XL SL13AXL (-10) compared to the Exogrid SL13EX (-9)? Which is more balanced for a contact hitter? Thanks. Dr
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL: SL13AXL Senior League bat is a two-piece full composite design. Full composite bats are typically lighter in weight and more balanced. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX Senior League bat is a two-piece hybrid with a composite handle and alloy barrel. This bat is designed to be balanced and have a lighter swing weight than a full alloy bat. Contact hitters typically gravitate towards the composite bats as opposed to the alloy.
Robert
Is this bat made in a -9 model? JTO
Unfortunately, the Louisville Slugger Attack is not produced in a -9 model.
Tyler
What is the temperature limits on these bats? Are there bat warmers that make these bats usable in the lower temps? Phil
You should use caution when temperatures are below 55 degrees. This does not mean you can't use the bat, you just need to limit the number of overall hits on it. Lower temperatures actually effect the hardness of the core of the baseball, not that bat. There is no hard evidence that says bat sleeves and warmers protect the bat from cracking in colder weather.
Tyler
Does the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL: SL13AXL Senior League have the same S1 iD Technology as the TPX Z-1000? g00dfela
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL: SL13AXL Senior League does not feature S1 iD Technology.
Kevin
My son is going to play travel ball and is allowed to use a 2 3/4" bat, but I have heard that the Easton S1 Senior League is better but is only 2 5/8". Is there a big difference? balldawg
Both the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL: Senior League and the 2013 Easton S1: Senior League are great bats. I would check in to how long he can use the 2 3/4" barrel. If it is longer than a year I would go with the 2 3/4". You wouldn't want to purchase the smaller diameter after just a short while.
Chad M.
Is this bat legal to use for 13U in USSSA league? T
Yes, the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL: SL13AXL Senior League is legal in USSSA 13U.
Kara
If your Youth Attack that you bought when it was $200 broke, could you trade it in for this bat while adding in $50 more since it was $200? Big E
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL: SL13AXL Senior League bat is a different model. If your previous Youth Attack bat broke while under warranty, Louisville Slugger should replace it for you with your receipt. They may be able to help exchange to the Senior League model as well. Give them a call at 1-800-282-2287.
Brandon
Is it legal in a 10U USSSA softball league? kelly
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL: SL13AXL Senior League would not be approved for a fastpitch softball league. For fastpitch softball, you would need a bat that was stamped with the USSSA BPF 1.20 stamp instead of the 1.15 stamp on this bat. Also, the barrel diameter is too large. For softball, you maximum barrel diameter would be 2 1/4". For our most popular fastpitch softball options, check out this link: http://goo.gl/u8ldVO
Mac
Is this bat a full composite bat? Also, would you recommend it for a 10 year old boy, who plays on a 10U team? Mom
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL (SL13AXL) is a two-piece fully composite. It would be a good choice for a 10 year old.
Tori
Is the 27" 17 oz. legal for 7U travel USSSA travel play? jingram22
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL (SL13AXL) is legal in USSSA.
Kara
Can this bat be used in Pony League, Mustang division? Bathog
The Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL (SL13AXL) would not be legal in the Pony League, Mustang Division because it has a 2 3/4" barrel. In the Mustang Division, only bats with 2 1/4"-2 5/8" barrel diameter are allowed.
Kelby
Does this bat need rolled? Mike
Composite bats such as the Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL (SL13AXL) should never bee rolled. This is illegal and will also void the warranty. The best way to break-in a bat is to take 100-200 swings off a tee or soft toss. Rotate the barrel 1/4" each swing.
Kara
My son is playing U9 kid pitch travel. He has an aggressive swing; he is currently using a 27" 17 oz. Easton V12. Do you think a 29" 19 oz. is too much jump for him or should he stick with the 28" 18 oz. in this bat? Will there be a big performance difference between this and the 2014 attack XL? studsa
There are some key differences between the Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL13AXL) and the 2014 model. The 2014 Louisville Slugger Attack (SLAT14-RX) uses flex bend technology for a low swing weight and a huge sweet spot. The new three-piece Tru-3 technology also helps reduce the vibration to the handle. With regard to sizing, that will be a matter of preference. Generally, you want to swing the longest and heaviest bat that you can comfortably and consistently control. If he did well with the 27" model, there is nothing to say that he couldn't make the jump to a 29" comfortably. Ultimately, it will come down to his overall strength as well as bat speed.
Tessa
Is this bat, or could you help by telling what bats made by Louisville like this one are legal for 9u travel? milkman
Unfortunately, travel ball programs do not have a universal rule set in place when it comes to bats like the Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL13AXL) if you could ask a coach or league official what rules they have about barrel diameter and barrel material, we may be able to make a more accurate ruling.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
