One last year's hottest new designs was the TPX Catalyst, and it's ready to jump start players' games again this season! Made from C1C Composite and featuring winged graphics, the one-piece Catalyst is designed to send the ball flying! The C1C Composite is precisely layered with toughened epoxy resin to make it not only high performing, but insanely durable for a mid-level priced bat! The thing that really makes the Catalyst stand out though is the -12 length to weight ratio! This unique design makes the Catalyst one of the lightest senior league bats to EVER hit the market! The Catalyst is topped off with the patented Louisville Slugger End Cap that dampens vibration and traps that energy in the barrel to create explosive bat to ball contact! With a 7/8 inch tapered handle and a synthetic leather grip, the Catalyst will feel amazing in your hands as you prepare to hit your next homer! Louisville Slugger: Be the Best, or Swing the Rest! Pros: My boy love's it!! It made a big difference in his batting average!! The feel and pop is awesome!!! What makes this bat so unique is the weight balance. Now my boy is 10 (weights 60 pound) and plays with 12U. The average pitch is 50-60 mph, it doesn't take much to crush it with this bat.

Cons: None as of now..

Pros: Excellent pop, better than my 10 yr old's 2 yr old Easton Omen. Very good balance, and very light - he's just over 60 lbs and needed something light to get around on fast pitching. Much less "sting" on cold days than other bats. Bought the 29/17.

Pros: I love this bat for my 6 year old son. He is using the 27" 15 oz. and is killing it. He has just recently made the swap from the Easton Rival 27" 17 oz. He hit well with the Easton but he has so much more power with the TPX. Most of the bigger boys on the team are using the TPX and they are smashing the ball almost every at bat.

Cons: None.

Pros: The bat sends the balls flying. My son loves the bat and all his team mates want to use his bat.

Cons: One huge problem. Started playing ball in late April, Mid May and again in Mid June the bat cracks in half just above tape. Two bats in 3 monthes. With the price of bats I expect more.

So far so good Shooter parent

Pros: I picked up this bat for my 8 year old as part of a bat pack. He is 67lbs and we went with the 28/16. The bat is well balanced and he can get around with it quickly. It's got roughly 500 reps on it at this point and broke in nicely. The grip is fantastic and has a large sweet spot. My son got a hold of one during BP last week and put a ball up against a 240 yard fence in right center with this bat. All in all I feel like I got a good deal for it at $140.00. This was my first purchase from justbats.com and everything went very smooth!

Cons: Nothing so far.

Nice Senior League bat for the price!!! William coach

Pros: Bought this bat for my 6 yr old to play 8u travel ball, and this bat has been a good one. Sound is weird and pop is just ok until you get 300-400 hits on it, then it comes alive. We have the 27/15, and it is just right for my son (60 lbs). We have owned several good bats, S1, Voodoo, S3, and this bat holds it's own with any of them which surprised me. His first Home Run on a 160ft field was with this bat, and he has yet to clear it with his S1.

Cons: Not much, maybe that the bat seems to have a strange balance to it, my son hits line drives over the infield consistently with his other bats, but seems to keep it on the ground a lot with this one. They are hard shots that usually go through the infield though.

Great Bat Parent of 13 year old player parent

Pros: -12 makes it very light and the bat has excellent balance and feel. You can easily detect the impressive pop on this bat. I didn't know if it really needed the break in, but we did work and soft toss as instructed on the video. Also, I left it in the bag when the temp dropped below 70. The bat has around 400 hits on it and is performing good. Season starts tonight.

Doug F.
What bat would be better for a 9 year old? This bat or the Louisville TPX 1000 Senior league? Mark

I'm deciding between the 2013 Louisville slugger TPX Catalyst XL (30/18) and the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha XL (29/19) for my son who is almost 9 and is 4'9" and weighs 105 lbs. He grew out of his 2011 TPX Omaha (27/17) that he loved and hit well with. Any suggestions? Should I be concerned about the durability of the catalyst at -12? Thank you. Roddy
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 30" model in the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst XL: SL13CXL Senior League bat. If he was successful with the Omaha, I would recommend just moving up in size. Here is a link for further comparison between the two bats http://www.justbats.com/compare/

The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst XL: SL13CXL Senior League and the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst: SL13C are exactly the same bat except for the barrel size. There are no advantages other than a larger barrel in the SL13CXL.
Frank
My 11 year old son is on a traveling team where big barrel bats are common. I am going to purchase either the TPX Catalyst 2 5/8, or the 2 3/4. Other than barrel size what are the advantages and/or disadvantages of the 2 3/4? Nellie
A bat with a 2 3/4" barrel like the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst XL: SL13CXL will offer a larger hitting surface, giving the player more "room for mistake."
Tyler

The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst XL: SL13CXL Senior League has a -12 length to weight ratio. The largest size that is produced in this bat is the 31" 19 oz. model.

Noah

The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst: SL13C Senior League was the 2 5/8" model and was a closeout model. Unfortunately we no longer have it in stock.

I need a Youth Big Barrel bat 27" and 15 oz or less, alloy. What do you suggest? Meryl
Alloy, youth big barrel bats are not manufactured in a -12. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst XL: SL13CXL, 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst: SL13C and the 2014 COMBAT Portent: PORSL112 are the only three -12 youth big barrel bats available.

Kara
my son is 4'4" about 60 lbs would the 27 or 28 inch suit him better? would the 27 inch be better because its lighter and he can generate more bat speed Coach
Based on your sons height and weight, the suggested bat length we recommend is 28 inches. However, if you were wanting a lighter option and can still achieve the plate coverage you would like with a 27 inch bat, that size would also be in the range appropriate for your son's size.
Patrick
My son has just turned ten years old very strong for his age. He is 4'11" and weighs 101 lbs. He wants 2 3/4" barrel bat. What size would you recommend, 29" 17 oz.? He plays AAU and needs bat speed as well. Bill
The Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst XL (SL13CXL) is a very balanced, one-piece composite bat. It is a great choice for a player that needs to increase their bat speed. Based on his height and weight we recommend a 30" 18 oz. bat.
Kara
I have twin 8 year old boys. One is 4'5" and weighs 78 lbs. The other is smaller at 4'2 3/4" and weighs 68 lbs. They just made their travel team, but need every advantage possible. I noticed the team's best hitter uses a bigger barrel bat. Right now we use 2 1/4". What do you recommend for each boy? Mom who loves her boys
Based on their height and weight we recommend 29" and 28" bats fro your sons. The balanced, lightweight design of the Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst XL (SL13CXL) is ideal for younger players.
Kara
My son is 4' 7", weighs 90 lbs, and is just about to turn 9. I'm thinking about getting him a big barrel bat. He already has a 2 1/4 inch bat. What would you recommend? jason
If you're able to use a big barrel bat as well, we would recommend a 30" model. But I'm not certain what he has been using. It's tough to recommend what weight he might be most comfortable with. Currently, this Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst XL (SL13CXL) Senior League bat will be one of the few -12 Senior League models available. Typically, younger players use a lighter bat more efficiently. This would be a great option. But feel free to give us a call or reply to this email with a little more information on what your player has been using well.
Mac
Does this bat require a break-in? What is the best way to do that if so? Buck
Yes, the Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst XL (SL13CXL) does require a break-in time. This is a break-in time of 150-200 swings off of a tee or with soft toss. Here is a link to a good video detailing this process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiZ3dzChfG0

What kind of warranty does this bat have? If it cracks structurally, will the company replace this bat with an identical model, size and weight? I love composite bats, but sometimes you get a bad model. It's not a big deal, as long as there is hassle free replacement. Ben

Therefore, if you have any durability issues, or problems with the end cap, you would be covered. I'm 10 years old and I'm starting Little League and I'm looking for a bat that has a big barrel and has good pop what do you recommend? KJ
For the age division you would be in in the Little League organization, you will not be able to use a big barrel diameter bat like the Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL13CXL) . You would need the Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst Youth Baseball Bat (YB13C) that has the smaller 2 1/4 barrel diameter.
Patrick
How does the Catalyst compare to the Worth Prodigy for 9U Baseball? wildcat

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
