Description

Since 1884, Louisville Slugger has been on the cutting edge of bat technology. This year the TPX line brings a new dimension in performance technology to the table. The EXOGRID 2 is one of the most innovative bats to ever hit the market. This bat starts out with Louisville Slugger's SC21 Scandium Alloy which is one of the most durable and responsive alloys on the market. Moving toward the handle you'll find that the metal is trimmed into a grid-like pattern and replaced with carbon composite inserts. These inserts are several times stronger than the metal they replace which gives the EXOGRID 2 not only it's name, but it's unwavering durability. Inside the bat, the heart of the EXOGRID 2 can be found in the form of an internal carbon composite sleeve. This provides greater handle stiffness than alloy alone ever could. All of these parts are brought together using Louisville Slugger's EXOGRID Bi/Fusion Process, where a combination of heat and extreme pressure bond everything into a single, solid unit. The EXOGRID 2 has a 2 1/4 inch barrel and 7/8 inch standard handle with a synthetic grip. It is topped off by Louisville Slugger's patented Pro Cup Endcap. Louisville Slugger: Intimidate at the Plate! The EXOGRID 2 is approved for play in Little League, Pony, Dixie, AABC, Babe Ruth, and USSSA. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: My 8 year son is hitting the ball harder and further than he ever has. Switched from an Easton SV12, and I see a noticeable difference in his power.

Cons: Expensive bat for a Little League player.

9 year-old All-Star

Pros: Our 9 year-old love this bat. He is hitting the ball harder and further than ever this year. We were looking for a CF4 (youth) and the negative comments made us go with the TPX EXOGRID2.

Cons: A bit pricey for a youth bat.

Coach Swing Plane

Pros: Good bat. I picked it up for a good price for my son. It has good pop, a good sweet spot, and he likes the way it swings, and feels on contact.

Cons: The list price. Don't expect your spending $200+ on a bat to turn your child into Harmon Killebrew. A nice bat can slightly help a good hitter, but it's the player who makes the bat...not the other way around. ;)

Pros: NONE

Cons: No pop whatsoever. My friend likes it, but that's probably because he always swings and misses.

Pros: looks nice good grip nice pop to it

Cons: During the second game of the season my son hit a triple and left it with a ding it didn't seam like a very hard hit or anything. Afterwards remembering about the warranty I wanted to trade it in but if you read the FINE PRINT ''it doesn't cover small dings and there bats are made of ultra thin walls to maximize performance''. By the way YOU pay shipping for a chance that it might be exchanged. In the end I say it's an ok bat if you got the money to keep buying a new one. cost too much and didn't last very long.

A-man

Pros: Nice pop...

Cons: Terrible quality...full of dents after using in only 2 little league games (7 at-bats). I would not have bought this bat if I'd known. Have used a TPX for two years before this bat, and not one dent in that one. This one is awful

Pros: We bought this bat last fall, and used it heavily for a year. This was the best bat my son has ever owned. Durable, has great pop, and he loves it.

Cons: Soon every kid on the team will be using it.

"The Kid's Dad!"

Pros: The Exogrid has awesome power when you connect with the ball in the kill zone. It outperforms the Demarini Voodoo when the ball hits the sweetspot. The look is very classy and much more tasteful than the VooDoo.

Cons: When you mis-hit the ball it doesn't go as far as some of the other bats out in the market. You have to hit it on the sweetspot to get power on the ball. My 8 year old son prefers the Lousville Ohmaha. He likes the Exogrid just not as much as the Ohmaha Alloy bat. Maybe it's just because the bat needs time to break in. So far it's an okay bat, but I was expecting more power from it even on mis hits. My eight year old is actually hitting better with his Ohmaha. It's Good bat from an outstanding company. His words exactly are he's not sure about it yet.

Pros: This bat was perfect for my 7 years old that play Machine Pitch. This ball has a lot of pop and I really mean it. The ball can go real far when you hit it with this bat.

Cons: It only last for 2 seasons because of a crack. I could not get another EXO Grip2 because the did not have a another one in stock but L.S. sent me a Vertex. which is not at the same level of the Exogrip

Pros: Very balanced bat...my 65 lb 9 year old is now hitting rockets into the gaps with this bat..for being a hybrid bat, the ball jumps off it as if it were a full composite bat...

Cons: Wish the bat were a different color, but performance wise the bat has no cons...

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 2 Youth Baseball Bat: YB12EX2? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

is it still powerful if it is not a big barrel? Taney Baseball
Sure. A lot of the "power" aspect depends on the player, but this will be similar to the big barrel version, just a smaller hitting surface.
JH
what are the 3 best bats for a 10 year old thats 5'2 right now i swing a demarini cf4 30 and 19 ounces and its like a toothpick crazyki113r
A few of the top bats that come to mind are the Easton Omen, Louisville Slugger Exogrid2, and the COMBAT B4.
Mark
does the tpx exogrid2 have the usssa bpf1.15 stamp on the handle? pollo3
If you are referring to the new USSSA BPF 1.15 stamp required on big barrel youth bats, then no, this bat does not have that stamp. This is a small barrel youth bat that will not require the new USSSA stamp until 2014. As of 8/23/2011, there are no small barrel bats on the market with the new stamp.
Sean
My 9 year old (4'58lbs) says 29/17oz Exo is lighter then his 28/16oz Omen. Looking for longer bat for outside corner (lefty)...only concern is should we consider CF4 or just buy EXO? Lisa
The CF4 is going to have a little more pop then the Exogrid. The CF4 is going to be a composite bat that will get hotter with time. This is a great link that we have that helps decide what bat someone should use and the length and weight they should use; http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Brett
will these bats be legal in 2012 in dixie youth skip
These bats should be legal for Dixie Youth next year. This bat has an aluminum barrel, so it should be legal for most leagues.
Todd
which bat has more power the demarini voodoo or the tpx exogrid2 jake
Both bats are good. They will each have solid POP and will be very durable.
KG
Is the BPF 1.15 and is it marked on the bat? This is a new Cal Ripken rule for this coming year. Joe
This bat does have the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp on it.
Linda
Does this bat have the 1.15 BPF marks on the bat for 2 1/4" size bats? Steven
Yes, it does.
Linda
Which is the better bat for the money the exogrid2:YB12EX2 or the NanoTek XP: NANOXP12 Youth olser
Both are going to be the top of the line for each of the different manufacturer's. It really will come down to personal preference.
Travis
Would this be a suitable bat for a 13 yr old? He does not need a bbcor and loves exo's Ken
Is he required to use the small barrel? If so, then yes. But if he is allowed to use the big barrel (and with him being 13, that would be my suggestion) then the model you want to look at is the SL12EX2.
Linda
Is this bat available in -10? buck
No. It is only avaialable in a -12 in the youth size. Louisville Slugger does make a -9 in the Youth Big Barrel bat.
Kara
Big barrel 2 3/4-2 5/8 -10? buck
This bat does not come in a straight -10. The closest to that would be the SL12EX2 which is a -9 2 5/8" barrel.
Linda
My son has used the Exodgrid 30" 18.5 oz for the past two years, and loves it. This is his last year in Majors, and at 11 years old, he needs a new 32" bat. How does the Exogrid2 compare to the Demarini Voodoo? MichaelZ
The Exogrid is a great bat. It will be stiffer than the Voodoo which is a two piece bat. Both perform very well.
KL
Is this bat Little League approved for 2012? Razor
Yes, this model will be approved for Little League in 2012.
John
i see it says it is approved for for usssa play but i do not see the usssa stamp on it. i want this bat but need to make sure i can use it in the swol league. that is southwest ohio league. i need some confirmation asap.. thank you rick
Yes, this bat is approved for USSSA. This bat will state on the barrel USSSA BPF 1.15.
John
If you were choosing a bat for your son which would you choose between? EXOGrid2, Voodoo, Combat B4 or the Easton S1? I know they are all good but which will have the best pop? Smooth
That depends on the type of hitter your son is. If he is a stronger power hitter, I would lean towards the Exogrid2 or COMBAT B4. If he is a contact hitter, I would lean towards the Voodoo or S1. The amount of pop will be different with each bat based on the type of hitter using it.
Tyler
Why is this bat not on the little league approved bat list? Dodgers1
According to my research the 2012 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID2 is on the approved list of bats for little league play.
Brad
Is this bat BBCOR approved? It says aluminum material in summary but description talks about composite inserts. Our league only allows BBCOR approved bats. Ray
No. This is a youth bat. Only adult bats are required to be BBCOR certified.
Tyler
Why should I buy this bat? I am 10. jman
The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID2: YB12EX2 features a high performing AC21 alloy and composite inserts in the handle. The EXOGRID Bi/Fusion technology will give the bat great pop.
Tom
Should I get the DeMarini Voodoo or the TPX EXOGRID 2? price
The DeMarini Voodoo is a two-piece hybrid design, so it has a composite handle and an aluminum barrel. The Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID2 is a one-piece aluminum bat with composite inserts in the handle. Here is a link to further compare the two bats. http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Tom
when are they coming out with the 2013 exogrids? jman
Unfortunately, we have not received any information as to when Louisville will release their 2013 line. It will probably be sometime in October or November.
Tyler
What bat should I get, a 2010 EXOGRID big barrel or the EXOGRID2 big barrel? Tim
We would recommend getting the Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 2: YB12EX2 because it is stamped approved for Little League play on the barrel.
Tom
Is this bat hot out of the box and will this bat get hotter the more it is used over time? seattle slugger
The Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID2: YB12EX2 is an alloy bat. All alloy bats will be hot out of the wrapper, but will not increase in performance the more it's used.
Tyler
What makes some bat hotter then other bats with use over time? Seattle Slugger
Composite bats have to be broken in and will get hotter after breaking in than an alloy bat.
Damon
Is it aproved for Usssa? kyle
Yes. The Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID2: YB12EX2 Youth bat is approved for USSSA for 2012 and 2013.
Tyler
Does this bat come with a USSSA stamp? Luke
No, it will not have the new USSSA stamp, but USSSA is not requiring youth bats to have the new stamp until 2014.
Noah
Is this bat approved for Little League? I did not see it on the approved list - http://www.littleleague.org/Assets/forms_pubs/2012LicensedBatList.xlsx, so I wanted to make sure before I purchased it for my 10 year old. Thanks for your help! Tim
The Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID2: YB12EX2 Youth is approved for Little League. It is the third bat listed on page 4 of the assets/forms link.
Kara
My 13 year old son had a Easton Speed bat when he was 10, what bat would be comparable today? I am looking for my 7 yr old who weighs 60 lbs (not sure of height). He is strong, athletic, and has a strong swing. He will be hitting off a pitching machine. baseball mom
The Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 2: YB12EX2 Youth bat would not be very comparable to the old Easton Speed. A comparable bat is the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat. This bat would be good for your younger son also.
Robert
I play in a private league (BYBA) that allows only "all aluminum bats"; no composite. I see that this is a one-piece bat but with carbon inlays. Would you think it is legal? Stewy
When concerning the legality of any bat, it is always best to verify what bats are approved with a league official. The Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 2: YB12EX2 Youth bat does feature the carbon composite inserts, but it also has an internal composite sleeve running through the bat.
Mac
Would this be a better choice than the Easton Rival XXL? Stewy
The Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 2: YB12EX2 Youth and Easton Rival XXL are both great one-piece bats. The composite inserts in the handle of the EXOGRID 2 will help reduce more vibration.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
