Description

Since 1884, Louisville Slugger has been on the cutting edge of bat technology. The EXOGRID name has been a top selling bat for years, so it's no surprise that the EXOGRID 3 is one of the most innovative bats to ever hit the market. This bat starts out with Louisville Slugger's AC21 Scandium Alloy which is one of the most durable and responsive alloys on the market. Moving toward the handle you'll find that the metal is trimmed into a grid-like pattern and replaced with carbon composite inserts. These inserts are several times stronger than the metal they replace which gives the EXOGRID 3 not only its name, but also its unwavering durability. The EXOGRID design also helps to lower the M.O.I. (moment of inertia) of the bat, resulting in lower swing weights and faster swing speeds for the player! Inside the bat, the heart of the EXOGRID 3 can be found in the form of an internal carbon composite sleeve. This provides greater handle stiffness than alloy alone ever could. All of these parts are brought together using Louisville Slugger's EXOGRID Bi/Fusion Process, where a combination of heat and extreme pressure bond everything into a single, solid unit. Louisville Slugger: Intimidate at the Plate! The EXOGRID 3 features the new USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp. It carries a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: My kid took the bat out and the first thing he noticed was the grip, He says this is the best grip. With a good swing there is no problem getting the ball to just pop off the bat. He has had exogrids in the past and this by far is his favorite. The Exogrid logo is textured on the bat which is different and will help put spin on the ball. My son has hit with the CF5 and some new Eastons 2 peice and says he feels more in control with the one peice exogrid. He has hit with the Louisville Attack which he liked. Maybe Louisvillle Slugger you just can't go wrong with. Exogrid is a tough bat that will last the season

Cons: NONE

Pros: Good balance and nice sweet spot.

Cons: Not durable. Bought new in March...already cracked at the handle (only 9 games into season). After growing out of 3 Eastons, we moved to Louisville Slugger - looks like a mistake.

#3 hitter JDS player

Pros: Good pop but doesn't seem to have as much as past EXO's I've used. Very balanced makes it feel lighter than it is. I would buy a ounce maybe 2 heavier than normal that would probably make up for what I think is a little less pop than older EXO's because the balanced feel. I would still recommend this bat.

Cons: Tape on bottom of grip came off rather quick

Is this the bat for a power hitter or contact hitter? sc
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX Senior League bat could be for both a power or contact hitter. BPF stands for Bat Performance Factor. This is in place to regulate the performance of bats.
Tyler
for a 12 year old, would you suggest this bat or the -8 cf5? zh
That all depends on his height, his weight, the length of his current bat, the weight of his current bat and what bat he has used previously with the most success. You are more than welcome to call our knowledgeable customer service staff at 1-866-321-2287.
Tyler
Will this bat be legal for babe ruth 13 to 15 year old division? booya
Yes. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX is legal for the 13-15 Baseball Division within Babe Ruth.

Is this bat a cold weather bat? With it being an alloy barrel/hybrid bat is the hybrid nature of it a problem in less than 50F like full composites? Would a Vertex or Omaha be better for cold weather, or maybe an Easton S3? Mike
Playing in cold weather it is better to go ahead and just stick with a one-piece all alloy bat. Using a bat like the Easton S3, or the Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha are going to be better for durability in the cold weather.
Noah
Will this bat be legal in pony and ussa? Because i'm in both and i want a bat i can use in both unknown
Yes. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX is legal in both Pony and USSSA play.

What is the difference between this bat and last years EXOGRID 2? Which is going to have better pop? Jwilliams
There is no difference between the 2012 and 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX Senior League. They both us the same Alloy and composite material in the handle.
Noah
I am considering this bat and -8 DeMarini CF5 which is going to have more pop? Jwillie4308
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX Senior League bat will come in -9 sizing. It will be one oz. lighter than the CF5. This bat will be two-piece in design with an alloy barrel and composite handle. The 2013 DeMarini CF5: DXCFR Senior League bat will be two-piece but will be made of 100% composite materials. This bat will require a period of break-in. The Exogrid 3 will not because of its alloy barrel. Both bats are very balanced. Both will have similar pop. The difference will be in the barrels being made up of alloy or composite material.
Brandon
Why don't you make -8 TPX Exogrid 3's? Longhorn00
We are not the manufacturer. Louisville Slugger actually produces these bats. They do not currently produce a -8 in the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX Senior League bat. I do see a -9 and -5 size available.
Brandon
The product description says "New for 2013". Other than the paint job, what is different than the Exogrid 2 Senior League model? Zeus44
Both are very similar in terms of materials and construction. The 2013 Exogrid will have a slightly lighter swing weight than the 2012 model.
Tyler
Does this bat swing true to weight? My son got the Ohama 31/21 and says that it feels light. he currently swings a CF5 30/20 and says that it feels heavier. AJ
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX is a well balanced bat that feels true to weight.
Tyler
I had the 2012 White Exogrid 2 in a 30" drop 9... It was an ok bat but it dented very badly after just a few hits... We went through 3 bats in a year and the last one still dented. In the past these were some of the most durable bats ive seen. Is this model better than last years for durability? CJA
So far, the 2013 Exogrid 3 has displayed slightly above average durability compared to the 2012 model.
Tyler
Which bat is more durable? The Exogrid 3 -9, Or DeMarini Voodoo -9? CJA
Both would be very durable. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX Senior League bat will be a two-piece design. So will the DeMarini Voodoo. Both will have a 12 month warranty through their manufacturer.
Brandon
My son swung the Louisville Slugger Triton II -12 last year in 12u league. He is playing in the 13u bracket this year. He is 5' 1", 83 lbs. He has grown quite a bit from last year. He is likely to play Legion ball 15 months from now where he will have to use a -3 bat. Should I transition him towards that length and weight ratio now? If so, what would you suggest, -9, -8? I don't think he would have much success with a -5. CoachDad
Making the transition to a heavier bat is going to be very important at this time. Since he will be going to a -3 in the next year and a half a -8 is going to be the ideal size to go with to help him transition to a heavier bat later. Try taking a look at the 2012 Marucci Black.
Noah
Is the 2012 EXO GRID 2 balanced like the 2013 EXO GRID 3? Db
Yes, both the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 and 2012 EXO GRID 2 are balanced bats.
Frank
Which would you prefer, a Easton 2013 XL1 or this bat. Which bat would be better for a power hitter? bob
The Easton XL1 is endloaded. Which is for a power hitter add even more pop to the swing. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX Senior League is more balanced and more for contact hitters.
Chad M.
Which would you say is a better choice the TPX EXOGRID 3 or the 2012 Marucci Black for a line drive hitter? Harrison
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX Senior League bat and 2012 Marucci Black would both be great bats. The EXOGRID 3 will have a lighter swing feel which can help out your bat speed.
Brandon
I'm considering the Exogrid or the Vertex. Which bat is more balanced, the Exogrid SL13EX or the Vertex SL13VXL? Thanks. Dr 99
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX will have a slightly lighter swing weight and more balanced design compared to the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex XL: SL13VXL.
Tyler
Does Louisville Slugger not offer a composite -10 or -9 bat in a 2 5/8 barrel? We love the TPX Triton II we got from JustBats last year and are now ready to move up the TPX food chain to something a little heavier. Any suggestions? Will something akin to the Easton S1 be offered by LS or is that bat the way to go? DW
Currently, we do not have any composite bats from Louisville Slugger with a 2 5/8" barrel and a -9 or -10 length to weight ratio. The top rated bats that meet your criteria are the 2013 DeMarini CF5 LE: DXCFX-LE, 2013 Easton S1: SL13S110 and 2013 COMBAT B4 Portent: B4SL1.
Tyler
Is the EXOGRID 3: SL13EX Senior League a very balanced bat or would you recommend another bat? Because I am looking for the most balanced bat with a ton of pop. The Sheriff
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX Senior League bat is very well balanced and has great pop to meet your criteria. It would be an excellent option.

Both are very similar in terms of materials and construction. The 2013 Exogrid will have a slightly lighter swing weight than the 2012 model.
Kevin
Which is better a CF5 or Triton 2? pink mamba
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX Senior League, the Louisville Slugger TPX Triton II: SL12T Senior League and the 2013 DeMarini CF5: DXCFX Senior League are very comparable, in terms of performance and they are all well balanced. In terms of design they are very different. The EXOGRID 3 is a one-piece alloy with composite inserts in the handle and is the heaviest, at a -9; the CF5 is a two-piece composite -10, and the Triton II is the lightest, at -12, and is a one-piece composite.

Tori
Would you recommend this bat or the Vexxum for a 4'9", 80 pound, 12U player who is a contact hitter and has an average bat speed? What size would you recommend? exo vs vexxum
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX Senior League is a one-piece bat which will make it stiffer than the Vexxum which will offer more flex because it is a two-piece. However, both will be light weight and balanced making both a good choice for a contact hitter. Based on the player's height and weight, we would recommend using a 30'' bat.
Tori

Based on your height and weight the Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 (SL13EX) in a 34"/31 oz. would be a suitable size for you.
Bobby
Is this bat game ready out of the wrapper, or does it need to be broken in? Hank
The Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 (SL13EX) Senior League bat has an alloy barrel that is hot right out of the wrapper.
Mac
I'm debating between this bat (29/20) and the Easton XL1 (29/19). My son is about 4'7" and weighs approximately 74 lbs. He is also more of a contact hitter. What would you recommend? Lefty_OneFive
I would probably recommend the Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: (SL13EX) for a contact hitter. The two-piece design will provide a little bit more flex, and typically this is preferred by contact hitters. Also, this model will have a very even weight distribution. Therefore, it will be extremely easy to swing through the zone and generate a faster bat swing. Overall, the structure and weight distribution will be very fitting for his game, and I think the Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: (SL13EX) would be an excellent choice.
Merritt
Is this a one-piece or a two-piece bat? gav
The Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 (SL13EX) is a one-piece bat. It will incorporate a AC21 Scandium Alloy Barrel with LS-2X Composite inserts in the handle.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
