Description

Until last season, Marucci was always known for their wood bats. Then the CAT 5 burst onto the scene and became one of the top aluminum bats on the market. This year, Marucci raises the stakes again with unbelievable new technology. Through endless field testing with the top players in America, Marucci discovered that vibration in the top hand is the most common complaint amongst amateur baseball players. Marucci has acquired a patented new anti-vibration technology that blows the competition away. They hired noted bat scientist Dr. Daniel A. Russell to do some lab testing against the top bats on the market. The results were shocking. He found that the vibration dampening rate on the CAT 5 is 5.6 times higher than the next closest competitor! For the player, this means that they can step up to the plate worry-free with one thing on their mind; blasting one over the fence! This is literally the smoothest swinging bat ever produced. Experience the difference of this one-piece bat made from the most responsive alloy in the industry. Marucci: Game Tested. Player Approved. The MSB25 features the USSSA 1.15 Stamp. The Marucci CAT 5 carries a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: This bat definately has alot of pop, the ball explodes off the sweet spot. Last years model was great and this one blows it away.

Cons: The grip could use more tape, but that is not a big issue. Overall no problems to write about.

Cons: The knob broke off today ... "he was early on an outside pitch." I will try to post back how warranty replacement goes.

Pros: After my son "test drove" more expensive name brands, hesitantly ordered this bat online after reading reviews. After receiving bat expediously, my son tried it out during BP and absolutely loves it. Tremendous "pop" generated, is very forgiving with large sweet spot. No "sting" even after hitting inside pitches near handle...very pleased with purchase, son looks forward to hitting with confidence.

Cons: After having bat for a week, son stated grip was getting loose...very minor thing compared to overall performance, will apply more tape as needed.

Pros: Bought this bat last week for my 12 y/o son for travel ball. He has been swinging a BBCOR bat for a few months now since his middle school requires/follows High school and Collegiate play rules and he is trying out for middle school. He used this bat for the first time this weekend and he hit a bomb over the center fielders head with 1 hope and almost bounced over 300 + fence!! Would have been his first homerun if he was in a 205' field for his age group for USSSA ball. He loves the bat and loves that there is no sting at all and is ready to chase any pitch in the strike zone!!! This bat has major POP!!

Cons: None so far!!!

Pros: Limited vibration.

Cons: My 13yr old plays majors. I purchased him a CAT5 and it was terrible (no pop even on solidly hit balls). After about 10 games of not getting anything but bad hits, my son went into a slump and would rarely swing. Then I convinced him to try his brother's Easton Rival and shortly he was hitting them out to the fence and he had his confidence back. The bottom line is there are much better bats in this price range.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Marucci CAT 5 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSB25? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

is this a besr bat? chrishess
Unfortunately, this does not BESR certification. Only -3 Adult bats are required to meet BESR certification. This is a -5 Senior League bat.
Jeff
is it useable for usssa or whatever the kids league evan
This is 100% alloy and should be legal in all youth leagues. Keep in mind, we are not a governing body and it's always best to check with your coach or league director as well.
Jeff
will the cat 5s have the usssa stamp on it for next year an can u use it for usssa next year tds 4
The 2011 Cat 5"s do not have the stamps on them. In most leagues they might not be able to be used next year if the league mandates that the stamps are on the bats. The 2012 Cat 5"s will have the stamps on them.
Brett
How does this all alluminum bat compare to Composite? SANTIAN
Aluminum bats are hot out of the wrapper. Composite bats require a break in period before they reach full potential. Aluminum bats will give you that 'ping' sound compared to a more 'thud' sound with composites. Aluminum bats will also dent whereas composite bats crack. Overtime a composite bat will give the player a little more 'pop'.
Kris
Hi there. I am playing on my 8th grade high school prep team. Will this be allowed? Alex
You will need to check with your coach or athletic director. If you prep team is following High School rules, then no, this bat will not be allowed.
TJ
Is this bat approved to be used in Babe Ruth? thanks Lou
If you are allowed to use 2 5/8 inch barrel bats that are -5 in your league, then this bat would be approved.
Todd
is this bbcor? zac
No, BBCOR bats will only be -3 bats.
Kris
do you have -5 usssa stamped bats yet mack
The Marucci Cat 5's that we have in stock do have the USSSA and BPF 1.15 thumbprint stamped on the bat.
John
What type of grip is this? I love it, and want to put it on all my bats stars man
We don't sell the grip that is used on the bats. I would contact Marucci and see if they have the tape available. Their number is 1-888-627-8224.
Kara
i use a 30 inch bat. is the new marucci black going to be better than demarini or should i stick with demarini? JTROOD7
The new Marucci Black is supposed to be one of the hottest hybrid bats on the market once it's released. It will be constructed simiar to the Voodoo, and based on the recent performance of Marucci's bats (like the Cat5) I would say that the new Black has an excellent chance of outperforming the Voodoo and maybe the CF5. That's hard to determine right now though. Either way you go (Black, CF5, Voodoo, or Cat 5) you'll have a great bat.
John
will it become available soon in a 32" 27 oz? Kmann
We have some on order, but we do not have a firm ETA. They should be here around the second week of November.
Derek
Greetings! Debating between Marucci Cat 5 (-5) or Easton Omen (-5) for a smaller 13 year old with good bat speed and average pop. Looking for bat with good pop Bozu
The Cat 5 is going to have better bat speed. They have made modifications to correct some of the durability issues with the Cat 5.
K.B.
hello i used to have a rawling renagade but it is not legale any more does this bat have tht huge ping sound like the renagade or a dull pop sound bill
This is an alloy barrel bat, so therefore this will have a high pitch ping sound to it.
Gil
hey would this bat be good for a huge power hitter chase43
This is a very good bat with lots of pop and nice sweet spot. This bat is well balanced and will be very durable.
KG
Is this a bbcor bat and eligible for 2012 little league junior play? Jim
It isn't a BBCOR bat. All BBCOR bats are adult bats with a -3 drop.
Kara
Have the 2012 models of the Marucci CAT 5 done anything to improve on the "knob" problems that the 2011 model had? Are there any important differences between the 2011 and 2012 models? coach tom
Yes. They have addressed the issue with the knobs on the Cat 5 bats. The newest Marucci model is the Marucci Black which is a two piece bat, not a one piece bat like the Cat 5.
Kara
Which bat has the lowest MOI (or least end weighting), the -5 CAT5 or the -5 BLACK? JC
Unfortunately, these bats do not have the MOI listed
Sean
How durable is this bat. Should I consider getting this bat for games and a lower cost Warrior or SLX65 for cages? Wanting a bat with similar loading or a little more loaded for cages. Can the Marucci take practice and game use? lightning
Personally, I always recommend a bat to beat up at practice, then your game bat. Especially if your game bat is an expensive bat. Save the pop for the games!
Linda
how would you compare this bat to the Easton Rival XXL: BD12XL for a 13u Elite player? my main concern reading the reviews is the knob breaking off. the dugouts have concrete slabs and the bats take a beating. greggsteven
The Cat 5 is the same 1 piece all alloy design as the Rival. I personally, have not heard of the issue with the handle.
Linda
i asked the question earlier about the vibration knob breaking off on 2 of the reviews. Was this a problem on the 2011 and has been fixed on the 2012? greggsteven
I believe Marucci has fixed this problem and this will no longer be an issue.
KG
What is the difference between the CAT 5 MSB2 and the MSB25, other than just the length/weight? Rusty
That's it. The length and the weight are the differences, they are made the same way, with the same materials, other than that.
Linda
Is this the 2012 or 2011 because on the Marucci site they only show the 2011 Cat 5s atorres@legnairon.com
This is a 2011 bat. As of right now we do not have any 2012's in the Cat 5.
Linda
When will the 2012 model of the Cat 5 be available? jc
As of today, we have not received notice of when delivery will be. Keep checking the website, we will put them live once they come in.
Linda
My son is 12 y/o and plays USSSA travel ball and preparing for middle school ball that requires BBCOR certified bats. He has an Easton S3 BBCOR bat and does well with it...My question is, should he use the S3 for travel ball as well or should he go with the Cat5 knowing that BBCOR bats don't perform as well as Sr. League Big Barrel bats? RobbyS
It may not benefit your son to decrease in length or weight to a senior league bat if he has already transitioned to an adult size bat.
Shelbe
Marucci Cat5 31/26 of Easton SL11X15 XL3 31/26 which one would you recommend? Looking for the most pop for the money. TC
Both are great options. The Marucci will be more of a well balanced bat while the XL3 is going to be more balanced. Performance will be very similar.
John
Is this the 2012 model? TC
It is a 2011 model, approved for play in 2012.
KB
Which bat has better balance the CAT 5 or the Black drop 5? Baseball player
The Cat 5 will be a little more balanced than the Black.
Tyler
Will it conform to the Babe Ruth league rules? La
Yes. This is legal in Babe Ruth.
Tyler
What is the differnce between the Cat5 and the Cat2? jauan
There is no difference between the Cat 5 and the Cat 2.
Kara
Is the USSSA stamp like BBCOR? Is it the same thing or what? batman1992
The USSSA certification and BBCOR certification are two separate certifications and are not the same thing. Adult -3 bats are required to be BBCOR certified, while youth bats carry the USSSA certification. You will not find a bat that has both certifications, it will either have one or the other.
Jennifer
What is the difference in the MSB2 and the MSB25?? Tring to buy a Bat for my 12 year old son. Thank you Teresa
The Marucci CAT 5 MSB2 has a -8 drop. The Marucci CAT 5 MSB25 has a -5 drop. With that being said, the MSB25 will be heavier than the MSB2.
Jennifer
what is the difference between the USSSA bats and BESR? jim
USSSA stands for United States Specialty Sports Association. They are simply requiring a new stamp for their youth big barrel bats this year, softball bats in 2013, and youth small barrel bats in 2014. It is common for organizations to update certification marks on bats every 5 years or so. BESR stands for Ball Exit Speed Ratio. This was a standard that adult bats, and adult bats only, had to meet prior to the implementation of the BBCOR standard.
Tyler
Is this legal for Little League, junior league play? What is the difference between this and the CAT 5 Pre BBCOR model that is cheaper? David
The MSB25 is full alloy and legal for the Junior Division within Little League. The PREBCOR model is not going to be as high performing as the MSB25. The PREBCOR is designed to perform similar to an Adult BBCOR bat to help players make a smoother transition to an Adult BBCOR bat.
Tyler
I'm 12, 5 foot 3 110 lbs. Will a 30in 25oz be a good size for me? j minster
Using our Bat Coach feature on our website, we recommend a 31in bat. You could also go up an inch to a 32 or down an inch to a 30. The link to our Bat Coach is http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/.
Nick
What is the difference between this one and the pre bbcor cat 5? jweaver
The PreBCOR Marucci will act more like a BBCOR while the Marucci CAT 5: MSB25 Senior League will have slightly more pop.
Zach
Is this considered durable? Does the paint chip easily? It's either this or a Omen for me. Which has more pop? Zaynekinsler5
Both the Marucci Cat 5 and the Easton Omen have great pop, however are designed completely different. The Marucci Cat 5 is a one-piece alloy and will be stiffer than the Easton Omen which is a two-composite. The Marucci Cat 5 is very balanced, better for a player who needs bat speed.
Kara
If I am going in to 8th grade and still have one more year until high school, should I use a drop 5 or drop 8? I'm 13 years old. Gabe
I would swing the -5. That would be a good transition into the BBCOR -3 models.
Nick
Is this bat top heavy? LW
No. The Cat 5 is balanced.
Tyler
Is either this bat or the Marucci Black commonly used in Babe Ruth ages 13-15? Baller
The Marucci Black and the Marucci Cat 5 are both popular in Babe Ruth with the -8 and -5 length to weight ratio. Here is a link to view and compare those two -5 models. http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Tom
Is this bat available in a -3? bad
It used to be, but the Adult -3 Cat 5 has been replaced by the Marucci Team Series this year.
Tyler
is this a bbcor bat? a
No. Only Adult bats are eligible for BBCOR certification. This is not an Adult bat.
Tyler
Is this bat better suited to a power or contact hitter? Baller
The Marucci Cat 5 is a one-piece alloy and very balanced, but will be suited well for both a contact and power hitter.
Damon
Is the Marucci Black a better bat compared to this one (pop and durablility wise)? Baller
Both the Marucci Cat 5 and the Marucci black have alloy barrels, so the pop will be similar. However, the Black is a two-piece bat so will have more flex to help whip the bat through the zone a bit quicker.
Damon
I used a Demarini Voodoo 2012 last year and loved it but i'm looking for a nice -5 to get ready for high school ball. Would you recommend this for power and contact? Thanks. RyanBaseball
The Marucci Cat 5 is a well balanced one-piece alloy bat. It would be a great choice for a power hitter.
Kara
What is the difference between the Marucci CAT 5 Senior League and the Marucci CAT 5 PREBCOR? HighLevelBaseball
The Marucci CAT 5 PREBCOR is designed to perform like the BBCOR bats that you will have to use in high school. Here is a link to further compare the two CAT 5's. http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Tom
Can I use this for high school? mark
No, The Marucci Cat 5 Senior League bat cannot be used for high school baseball. You must use a BBCOR certified bat.
Noah
Does the drop 5 have the same pop as the drop 8? Catchers dad
The Marucci CAT 5 will have the same pop in a drop 8 as it does a drop 5. They both have to meet the USSSA 1.15 BPF standards.
Noah
Are they still using the USSSA 1.15 lable in the 12-13 year old group of 2013? THANKS Harrison
Yes. USSSA will require the BPF 1.15 stamp on Youth Big Barrel bats in 2013.
Tyler
Since this bat is balanced does it feel lighter and easier to get around through the zone? Ben
Yes, the Marucci CAT 5: MSB25 Senior League bat is very balanced. Balanced bats will have lighter swing weight than End-Loaded bats. End-Loaded bat will feel barrel heavy, where as a balanced bat will not. The weight is distributed throughout the entire bat, not just the end of the barrel.
Brandon
Is this bat legal in 2013 for little league junior division? Preston
Yes. The Marucci CAT 5: MSB25 is approved for play in Little League's Junior Division.
Tyler
Will yall be getting anymore of the 31/26 in this bat? brad
The Marucci CAT 5: MSB25 is discontinued and we will not be getting any more in stock.
Tyler
Is there a difference between this bat and the PREBCOR? matt
The Marucci CAT 5: MSB25 Senior League has a longer barrel than the Marucci CAT 5 PREBCOR: MPBC Senior League resulting in a bigger sweetspot and increased control.
Katie
How does this bat compare to the Easton S2? tim
The Marucci CAT 5 is a one-piece balanced bat, and the Easton S2 is a two-piece balanced bat.The S2 and the CAT 5 are going to be very similar in terms of performance.
