Typically more power hitters prefer the design and feel of a one piece bat, while contact hitters tend to prefer a two piece bat. A one piece bat is going to be more stiff and offer more power, whereas a two piece design is going to offer a little flexibility when the ball is hit and create a whip-like effect that is good for contact hitters.

What are the advantages to having a 2 3/4" bat to a 2 5/8" bat? Catcher22
The 2 3/4" barrel gives you a larger surface area to make solid contact with the ball. Some leagues do not allow this barrel size though, so you need to verify that the 2 3/4" barrel is legal for your league.

If he is a contact hitter, the Metalstorm Green Diamond: MS2PGD5 Senior League, which is a two-piece bat would be recommended. Two-piece bats will have more flex and help to increase bat speed for a contact hitter.
