Description

If you're searching for a strong bat with great performance and a MONSTER 2 3/4 inch barrel this season, the Rawlings' 5150 Alloy bat is about to make your dreams come true! Popular alloy big barrel bats of the past have not been made with the durability that $100+ bats should have. They dent, scratch, and look like they've been through years of use after a week on the field. The fact of the matter is that Rawlings' 5150 Technology gives players a huge advantage on the field. Rawlings' 5150 Alloy has been formulated for higher strength and increased barrel flex. The result is an unmatched combination of trampoline and durability! Because of their precision manufacturing, 5150 Alloy bats are consistently hotter and perform at the maximum level allowable by today's standards. This one-piece design features a relatively stiff feel and makes for a great power bat. The SLR234 also has a balanced swing weight and a low M.O.I. (moment of inertia) to create a unrivaled feel and increase your swing speed. Rawlings: The Mark of a Pro! The 5150 Alloy features the new USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warrranty. Free Shipping!

5150 Delivers big hits! Hambone parent

Pros: My son has the 31 inch 21 ounce model. He has struggled the last two years with using a little league bat and then trying to find a different bat for travel. He has used his little league 5150 until he started using this. Great pop and a good bat for making the transition to a big barrel. His confidence is great with this bat and all of his teammates have been using in their fall league. Very balanced.

Cons: His bat has dented over the last couple of months. A very gradual process. My son practices and plays a lot. We are returning it and getting another one. He loves this bat.

Best Bat Out for the Price John parent

Pros: Great pop out of the wrapper. Looks great. Solid Construction. Son has used the same bat for Fall and almost the complete Spring Season. Has 32 games on it and probably 150+ practices. Literally thousands of ball connects with this bat and it is completely dent, ding, and crack free. Plenty of pop left in it as he hit his first out of the park homerun last weekend.

Cons: I think the bat handle it slightly thicker than some. I also replaced the grip.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings 5150 Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat: SLR234? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

When will this bat be available in other sizes ? Jakeo
We expect to have more sizes of the Rawlings 5150 Alloy: SLR234 available by the 2nd week of October.
Tyler
Is this BBCOR approved also? Michael
The Rawlings 5150 Alloy: SLR234 Senior League is not BBCOR approved. All BBCOR bats will have a -3 length to weight ratio. Here is the link to the BBCOR model. http://www.justbats.com/product/2013-rawlings-5150-alloy-bbcor--bbca2-adult/16337/.
Nick
My son uses a 29" 5150 Velo that has a 2 3/4" barrel. He needs a 30" bat, but we don't know whether to buy the 5150 or the velo. He is definitely a contact hitter, but is worried about the 2&5/8 barrel on the new velo. Will it be a noticeable difference? He is rather small for his age. Micah
The Velo will be more balanced than the regular 5150. I feel the difference in weight distribution is noticeable, but even so, the regular 5150 is still a pretty balanced. If he can use a bat with a 2 3/4" barrel, I would recommend sticking with that size barrel as it will offer more surface area for contact and a slightly larger sweetspot.
Tyler
Does different bats have more with a tossball? My son uses a 27 17 and some times we use baseballs so I thought of buying a SLR234 5150 just wanting someones opinion. Ball
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "tossball". If you could, please clarify your question then email us at support@batwarehouse.com
Tyler
Can my son use this bat in 12U Rec ball? Berndt
Most 12U Recreational baseball leagues require the bat to be 2 1/4 inch in diameter, so this bat would not be legal. However; it's always a good idea to refer to your league rules as there are many different rules and regulations depending upon the specific league your playing in.
Jeff
How does the 5150 bat compare to the Velo? Is the swing weight distribution the same as the Velo? len
The Rawlings VELO Senior League bat will be more balanced than the regular Rawlings 5150 Alloy: SLR234 Senior League bat.
Aubrey
What can you recomend for a more durable bat? last years model was great, we've already broken two of these each on day 1, never made it to a game. dodger
That depends on the age, size, and strength of the player using the bat. However, one of the more durable -10 Youth Big Barrel bats on the market is the Louisville Slugger Omaha.
Tyler
I know you mentioned that the VELO has a more balanced feel compared to this bat. Is this bat still somewhat balanced? Hunter
The Rawlings 5150 Alloy: SLR234 Senior League is somewhat balanced, but the Velo will be more balanced.
Kara
I want this bat to last me 2 or 3 seasons. Will it crack or dent in that period? jotobraves
The Rawlings 5150 Alloy: SLR234 Senior League has great durability, but there is no way to determine if a bat will break or dent. This bat will be under a 1 year manufactures warranty so they will replace it if anything goes wrong in that year.
Noah
Is it better than the TPX Omaha? Ed
The Rawlings 5150 Alloy: SLR234 Senior League and the Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha: SL1365 Senior League are both going to be very similar in performance. They are both one-piece balanced bats.
Noah
Is the Easton S1 a better choice than the Rawlings 5150 Alloy chris
Both are good balanced bats. The Easton S1 will be higher performing because it is composite, whereas the Rawlings 5150 is a one-piece alloy.
Damon
Is the 5150 or the Velo more balanced? Jimmy
The Rawlings Velo will be the most balanced between the two. The Rawlings 5150 Alloy Senior League (SLR234) will have the larger sweet spot though between it and the 5150.
John
Is the Rawlings 5150 Alloy Senior League Bat: SLR510 made for kid's pitch or coach pitch? What's the difference between the SLR234 versus the SLR510? Mdka14
The Rawlings 5150 Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat (SLR234) is intended for kid pitch style play but could be used for either one. The difference would be that the SLR234 has a 2 3/4 inch barrel diameter and the Rawlings 5150 Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat (SLR510) features a 2 5/8 inch diameter.
Patrick
What is the temperature range for this bat? tk

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
