Description

The Rawlings Machine big barrel bat utilizes the help of new technologies that are all designed with one goal in mind: to increase player swing speed with exceptional balance and feel! This starts with Precision Optimized Performance (pOp) Technology that results in championship caliber swing velocity and balance. This is accomplished through isolating the added weight to a smaller region on the barrel than any other competing bat, which translates into a lower swing weight. The maximum rebound zone of the bat is surrounded by thin walls that create additional flex and a larger, more reactive sweet spot. The Machine is built from Rawlings X-Treme Performance Composite that gives this bat outstanding barrel trampoline and excellent durability. Ph.D Technology is used inside the handle to dampen vibration and improve the feel of the bat. If exceptional feel matters to you, get your hands on this new bat from Rawlings! Rawlings: Performance Where It Matters Most on the Field! The Machine features the new USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp and is approved for play. The Machine is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: My son has not used it in a game yet but this bat is very well balanced and the ball comes off it like a rocket. Bat speed faster than an Eastin S1 for my son. Every kid thats tried it loves it and all the boys on his team constantly want to use it.

Cons: Of course the cost but thats what bats are going for now. No other cons yet with at least 200 hits on the bat.

Pros: Got the 32/22 demo, and was a little worried about my 11yr old swinging a 32. But with the balance of the bat no problem going from 31 to 32. Really havn't broken the bat totally in, but tremendous pop so far. Larger sweetspot than s3,and great sound for a composite bat. And the bat looks cool

Pros: The bat has a very large sweet spot. My son, playing U12 travel baseball, hit his first homerun of the season with a 240 ft. blast. He followed it up with a nice double hit off of the fence.

Cons: The bat broke with only 300+ hits. Not durable at all, but I will give Rawlings credit since they are sending us a replacement bat. I'll give the bat a second try before totally writing the bat off.

disappointed

Pros: light weight = faster bat speed

Cons: We purchased this bat for my son's 13U competitive baseball team in February. The boys really enjoyed the pop they got off the bat, but 4 months later, the bat literally came apart. We don't have boys that hit the plate or bang their cleats. We sent it back last week, and they sent us a "new" one. The new one did not last a week and the same thing happened. The bat came apart in layers. We will NOT be buying Rawlings again next year.

Rawlings Machine Stephen player

Pros: This bat has excellent pop a great feel and is light due to the all composite design. I am 11 yrs old and 5'5" and the ball jumps off the bat. If your son needs a new bat get him this one he will be hitting bombs. When I don't use it I'm very power with any bat and I can hit 330ft flat, but when I do use it I can hit 390ft flat. This bat has a nice grip and large barrel and sweet spot. It is good for 4'9" kids and great for 4'11" kids and up. This bat really feels short and compact but is large in the long run. I am sitting at an .360 with me batting avg with this bat.

Cons: The durability is that great for having it for not even a year. It cracks easily and the grip doesn't grip the players hand. Use batting gloves!!!!!!!! But overall nice. Buy it.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Machine Senior League Baseball Bat: SLMACH? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Was this bat made with the same material as the BBCOR? rb23
The 2013 Rawlings Machine is a one piece composite and the 2013 Rawlings Machine BBCOR is a two-piece bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel. Both use The•Precision-Optimized Performance (pop) Technology.
Kara
How does this bat compare to the Rawlings 5150 -10 Senior League SL51A1 Bat? My son plays in a PONY League, he uses a Easton Speed LL Bat 30" 18 oz and an Easton Speed Senior League Bat 29" 19 oz. He loves the balance on both of those bats. Keep in mind he is about 4'9" and weights about 85 to 90 pounds. He is in his first year of Mustang ball. Bid Daddy
The 2013 Rawlings Machine and the 5150 are designed different. The 2013 Rawlings Machine is a one-piece composite bat. The 5150 is a one-piece all alloy bat. Both will be stiff and well balanced. The Rawlings Machine will require a break-in period like the Easton Speed.. The 5150 will be game ready.
Kara
what kind of break in period for the rawlings machine bat/ how much hitting before bat has maxium pop in bat ? senior -10. velo went in for warr and out of sstock offered machine, I wasn't thinking of break in period. I've always had alloy hot out of wraper., Stillwater, Al
The Machine is a full composite bat that will take around 150-200 hits off a tee or soft toss before it's ready to go.
Tyler
What is better the Rawlings Machine or the 2013 Miken Freak? baseballkid
The Rawlings Machine and the 2013 Miken NXT Freak are both great fully composite bats with similar pop. Here is a link to further compare both bats. http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Tom
My son is swinging the Rawlings 5150 Exogrid: YB51X2 right now. How close will the swing feel(balance, end load, etc.) be with the Machine? bballdad
The 2013 Rawlings Machine will be balanced like the Rawlings 5150 Exogrid. The 2013 Rawlings Machine is a composite bat so it will require a break-in period but will have great pop.
Kara
I'm looking for a bat that will not crack or dent. That will last more than 2 months. I always buy my son a composite made bat every year. Here lately, every composite bat that we get cracks. So, my question is what makes this one piece bat different from the other bats out there? Cowboys99
The 2013 Rawlings Machine: SLMACH Senior League bat would be a great choice. This One-Piece model will feature a Balanced Swing Weight and is designed to increase Swing Speed and Feel. This bat will feature Rawlings new X-Treme Performance Composite. This bat's technology begins with isolating the added weight to a smaller region on the barrel than any other competing bat. This bat's thin walls will result in a bigger more effective sweet spot. This bat will come with a full 12 month manufacturer warranty.
Brandon
What is the break in period for this bat? Is this bat better than the Easton S3? Thanks martinezjohn74
The 2013 Rawlings Machine: SLMACH Senior League requires a break-in period of 150-200 hits soft toss, or off a tee. Remember to rotate the barrel a quarter of an inch to ensure an even break-in of the barrel. The Easton S3 is a one-piece alloy design whereas the Rawlings Machine is a one-piece composite design. Here is a link for further comparison http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Aubrey
Does this bat have BBCOR approval? bky
The 2013 Rawlings Machine: SLMACH Senior League bat will be USSSA Certified. It will not have the BBCOR .50 stamp on it.
Brandon
Is it approved for play in Pony leagues? drcory
The 2013 Rawlings Machine: SLMACH Senior League is approved for Pony leagues between the ages of 11 to 18 years of age.
Chad M.
So this bat is not legal for USSSA play, since it's not stamped BBCOR, right? jody
The 2013 Rawlings Machine: SLMACH Senior League bat features the new USSSA stamp and therefore would be legal for USSSA play.
Aubrey
How do you break in a composite bat? I want this for my son to use in a week at a tournament? He is 8 years old and 75 pounds. Is a 28" 18 oz. an okay length and weight? Sheila
The length and weight sounds great for your son. Follow the link to see how to perfectly break in your bat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiZ3dzChfG0
Noah
I am 4' 9" and 85 lbs. I want to get this bat for a few seasons, what size bat should I get? jimmy
A 30" bat length is the recommended at your size for the 2013 Rawlings Machine: SLMACH Senior League.
Brandon
I am 11 years old, 5'4'', and 104 pounds. I do not own a big barrel. I have the Louisville Slugger Attack 31/21 Little League version. How will the 2 bats relate? Me
The 2013 Rawlings Machine: SLMACH Senior League is a one-piece composite. The Louisville Slugger Attack is a two-piece composite so it will offer more flex. The Attack is available in a youth big barrel.
Tori
Can my son use these bats in Pony Bronco division? Chuck
Yes. Pony Bronco division allows 2 5/8" models like the 2013 Rawlings Machine: SLMACH Senior League.
Damon
Any temperature concerns to keep in mind when considering this bat? Mark
The 2013 Rawlings Machine (SLMACH) Senior League is a one-piece composite design and should never be used in temperatures below 55 degrees. Composite bats are more susceptible to cracking when used in colder temperatures.
Jason
Why do you need to "break in" a composite bat? And what happens if you do not break it in? Matt
The break in period on composite bats allows the composite fibers to loosen up. If you do not break in the Rawlings Machine (SLMACH) it has a higher chance of breaking.
Jackson
I have not seen a 2014 version of the Rawlings Machine? Did Rawlings do away with the Machine after 2013? If so, what did they replace it with? DT97
Rawlings did not produce a model that directly replaces the one-piece composite design of this Rawlings Machine Senior League Baseball Bat (SLMACH). For the last two product lines, they have produced a two-piece composite model called the Mach: http://www.justbats.com/products/?s=rawlings+mach+senior.
Mac
Can you use this bat for a 7U boys Pony team in Texas? Ball29
This Rawlings Machine Senior League Baseball Bat (SLMACH) should be approved for his division. Pony baseball will allow you to use big barrel bats that do not exceed 2 5/8" on the barrel diameter. And they shouldn't have a restriction on composite material. However, ruling can vary, so I would absolutely check with a coach or league director if possible.
Mac
Looking for a good "cage" bat for my son to use instead of using his Easton S1. Would this be a comparable bat in balance and feel or would you recommend a different bat? stp20
The Rawlings Machine Senior League Baseball Bat (SLMACH) would be a great choice to have as a back up to your Easton S1. It will feature the same balanced feel and composite design. The main differences will be that the Machine will feature a stiffer one-piece design, whereas the S1 features a two-piece design.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
