Description

The Rawlings Machine youth bat utilizes the help of new technologies that are all designed with one goal in mind: to increase player swing speed with exceptional balance and feel! This starts with Precision Optimized Performance (pOp) Technology that results in championship caliber swing velocity and balance. This is accomplished through isolating the added weight to a smaller region on the barrel than any other competing bat, which translates into a lower swing weight. The maximum rebound zone of the bat is surrounded by thin walls that create additional flex and a larger, more reactive sweet spot. The Machine is built from Rawlings X-Treme Performance Composite that gives this bat outstanding barrel trampoline and excellent durability. Ph.D Technology is used inside the handle to dampen vibration and improve the feel of the bat. If exceptional feel matters to you, get your hands on this new bat from Rawlings! Rawlings: Performance Where It Matters Most on the Field! The Machine is approved for play in Little League, Babe Ruth, Dixie, Pony, AABC, and USSSA. It also features the new USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp. The Machine is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

HiDad

Pros: I'm a big Rawlings fan since the 5150 line of bats. My son has been playing Rawlings for a couple of years now and the bats have always impressed. Rawlings out did themselves with the Youth Machine Bat. At our first game of the season my son went 5/5 with 3 HRs, not maybe it'll go HRs but the "that's gone" HRs. Buy this bat before they ban it. To me there is not better bat on the market and that's why we stay with Rawlings.

Cons: Needs to be broken in, 200-300 balls.

Pros: this is the best bat on the market. I have used cf4s and 5's, omens, s1, and xl1 and i would choose this one over all of those bats. huge sweet spot, great looks and amazing pop even when hit on the handle. I usally dont try bats that arent from "the big 4" (DeMarini,Easton,Louiville Slugger, COMbat) but dont worry

Cons: i didnt like the grip

COACHDAD

Pros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

Cons: TKES ABOUT 400 HITS TO BREAK IN PROPERLY. BUT WELL WORTH THE TIME AND EFFORT.

Pros: My 11 year old son got one for the 2013 season for Christmas. His previous bats were a Rawlings Gold Rush Hybrid 30"/18 oz., and a Rawlings Gold Plasma 30"/17 oz. He stepped up to a 31"/19 oz. Despite the increase in size the Machine feels lighter and much more balanced. This is his first composite bat because he did not like his buddy's Easton S1 or Omen, nor the CF5.

Cons: Needs much breaking in. I finally had it rolled, which made a big difference.

Still Going Strong! Moose parent

Pros: Break in period is long but manageable. BREAK THIS IN ONLY WITH BASEBALLS AND HITTING. Anything else and it will crack within a month. Keep your receipts!! Cracks happen with any composite!

Cons: UPDATE: My son, now 12, stepped up to the 32/20 version of this bat. He also owns the 30/18 and 31/19. He tried the S1, the Mako, and others but went with another Machine because it just felt consistent and better than the other Composites. In his last year of Little League, he powers the ball deep into the outfield. It's not truly the bat, but at least he knows what he likes.

Son loves it! David parent

Pros: I bought the 30/18 for my 9 year old and I must say that this bat is the real deal. I have used several different brands of composite bats and the feel of this bat is unbelievable right out of the wrapper. It is a little stiff right now (which is a good thing for durability) but I can tell it will open up soon. We have gone through one BP session and the pop is already there. I cannot wait to see how this bat performs when it is fully broken in. I would compare it to the Miken Freak 98 ASA (before the new standards) slowpitch bat, stiff to start out but once broken in not many can compete.

Cons: none yet

good bat for the money Coach Jamie coach

Pros: Great balance and huge sweet spot. My 7 year old son has a B4 Combat 27/17 and I wanted to move him up in size so I bought this bat in 28/16 and it has been perfect. My son is only 50 lbs but he swings well and gets the bat around great. Typical composite sound which I like.

Cons: Grip is hard and slick, I replaced it with Easton grip tape and my son likes it better.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Machine: YBMACH Youth? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Does this bat require a break-in period? If so, what is the best process? Coach
The 2013 Rawlings Machine does require a break-in period. The break in period consists of 150-200 hits off of soft toss or a tee. Start at about a half swing and work your way up from there. Make sure to rotate the bat in between each hit about a quarter of an inch to evenly break in the barrel. After that, the Machine should be ready for game play.

What are comparable models from Easton, DeMarini, COMbat, and Louisville Slugger? How do these rank among players? boz
Here is a link to all the comparable models. http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Tom
What if this bat is not broken in and used in game? nooby
Composite barrel bats require about 150-200 swings off a tee or soft toss to reach maximum performance. If you do not choose to break in the bat you will just not see the maximum performance out of the bat.
John
Is there a big difference between this bat and the xl1? eee
Yes. The 2013 Rawlings Machine: YBMACH is a one-piece, full composite, balanced bat. The XL1 is a two-piece, full composite, end-loaded bat.
Tyler
I know this probably won't happen but is there any chance this bat may be banned because for 200 dollars I would hate that. ryan
The 2013 Rawlings Machine will not be banned because it has the new USSSA 1.15bpf stamp on it.
Noah
My 11 year old is 4'11", 100 lb. He has been using an Easton lss6xl (30/18) for the past 2 years. What models would you recommend for a 19 oz. bat? Mark
It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate. The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 is the most similar bat to the LSS6XL and is the top recommendation.
Tyler
The Easton S1 has a thin grip and a two-piece composite design, the Machine is a one-piece. What other differences are there? Are both equal in performance? Anton
The 2013 Rawlings Machine: YBMACH Youth and 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth will both perform at similar levels. Aside from the Machine's one-piece design, and the S1's two-piece design, the only other difference is the S1 has a 400 Day Manufacturer's Warranty, whereas the Machine has a 12 Month Warranty.
Katie
My son just turned 9 years old and is 52' tall and weighs 65 lbs. What size bat would you recommend for him? Dad
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2013 Rawlings Machine: YBMACH Youth in a 28''.
Tori
My son is 8 and has been using the DeMarini Voodoo bat. How similar is this bat to the Voodoo? baseball lover
The 2013 Rawlings Machine: YBMACH Youth bat will feel more balanced compared to the DeMarini Voodoo. The Voodoo will have more of a barrel heavy feel to the swing weight.
Brandon
Rawlings Machine 28" 16 oz. or Louisville Slugger Vertex 28" 15 oz. for a six year old who is 46" and 55 lbs.? Which bat will provide the best results? CAM
The 2013 Rawlings Machine (YBMACH) features a one-piece fully composite design. The Louisville Slugger Vertex features a two-piece hybrid design with an alloy barrel and composite handle. Both models are high performing and will produce great results. Ultimately, it is up to the player and their preference of a one-piece vs. two-piece design and whether they like an alloy or composite barrel.
Tessa L.
Is Rawlings making a 2014 version of this bat? I also heard great things about the 5150 bats. Is Rawlings making a 2014 youth version of the 5150? Jprime13
The 2013 Rawlings Machine (YBMACH) has been replaced by the 2014 Rawlings Mach (YBMC10 ). There will be a new version of the 5150 and the VELO this fall.
Kara
My son has been using the Rawlings Plasma YBPLA4 28" and loves it. But he wants a little bigger bat now that he is getting older/bigger. I like the Rawlings line and the Machine looks like a great buy. Will the two bats hit similar or is the Machine "hotter" after break-in compared to the Plasma? Jamie
The Rawlings Machine (YBMACH Youth) will feature a one-piece fully composite design. The Plasma was an all alloy design. Once the Machine is broken in you should expect for higher performance and for that performance to last longer compared to the Plasma. The Machine will also feel balanced and light weight like the Plasma does.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
