Pros: My son is 11 about 5'1" and weighs 72 lbs he has always struggled with power. Not anymore he's hitting the ball deep consistently. Never gets stingers as well. Great bat my son has tremendous confidence at the plate now and can't wait to go to practice now. Everyone needs to buy this bat for their son. It will revolutinize their game. Thanks Rawlings!!!

Cons: All the kids on the team want to use it. Need to tell the other Dads where to buy one.

Pros: Looks great, evenly balanced. Bought this for my 9 yr. old and he has great bat speed with it -13 drop is great. The ball explodes off this bat, just as good as a Demarani or Easton that costs much more. This bat is a steal!

Cons: All the other kids want to use it!

Pros: This is an awesome bat. I bought this for my nine year old son. I purchased the 29", -12. The day we received the bat we took it out to a practice field and hit a few bucket of balls with a friend. They both "Roped" the ball into the outfield several times. The ball pops off of the bat. I then brought to our next little league game. Several kids used the bat and were hitting the ball into the outfield for the first time. This bat is amazing and don't let the low price fool you. Right now it is the bat of choice for 3/4 of my little league team. Excellent!

Cons: Absolutely None.

Pros: Best bat ever!!!! I used to be an average hitter, with this bat I hit a triple, 15 doubles, and lots of singles. Very light bat, great for contact hitters. Good for going opposite field on curveballs.

Cons: Legit everyone on the team wants to use it, even though they have omens, cf4, cf5, and power brigade bats!!

Pros: My son is 10, playing with a 12U league team and I had him swinging a 2 piece bat from another mfg., but not anymore! This one piece bat is WAAAYYY undervalued - Fantastic weight balance throughout the length of the bat. The sweet spot is very forgiving with a sweet sound on impact and a industry leading trampoline effect. My son is now batting in the middle of the lineup and driving the ball on impact. In fact he gained almost a hundred points in his average but due to hitting the ball so hard, in the infield, he doesn't get credit for a better average because of the errors that are caused because of how the ball jumps off the bat. YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A HOT BAT WHEN 6 OUT OF THE 9 BATTERS IN THE LINEUP SWING IT OVER THEIR $299 BATS! Rawlings has me sold.

Cons: None have been exposed, even after hundreds and hundreds of contacts!

Pros: The large sweet spot makes it easier to hit one out to the outfield. Lots of my son's teammates like to use it during practice and games. It doesn't hurt when you hit outside the sweet spot. Also, the rubberized paint grips the ball better!

Cons: Shouldn't it cost MORE?

Pros: My 8 year old is just starting out and needed a lighter bat. I wasn't looking to spend hundreds on a bat if my son ended up not wanting to play. So, I came here and found the right size at the right price. The free shipping both ways is a huge plus! He is hitting better and is really loving it! I also had a question so I called customer service and I have to say it was one of the best dealings I've had. As long as he plays, I will purchase from Justbats!

Cons: There aren't any cons. The other reviews were right. Every one on the team wants to use the bat!

Pros: Cheap, durable, good pop. I bought this as a backup to my sons TPX Warrior and found it an excellent bat at a great price.

Cons: A bit tip heavy, gets ugly fast. The bat is better suited for home run hitters as it is a bit tip heavy. The TPX Warrior is a better balanced bat.

No, the Rawlings Plasma is going to be an alloy bat.
Shawn
Would you prefer the plasma or 5150? baseball4evr
The 5150 is going to use a higher quality of alloy so I would give the edge to the 5150.
Kara
how is alloy different? sgbtkn 46h
Alloy and aluminum are basically the same. The biggest differences is the thickness of the alloy used..
Linda
barrel size carlos
This bat will be a 2 1/4 inch barrel diameter.
Robb

This bat is in fact approved for Dixie Youth baseball for the 2012 season. If you look at the smaller pictures in the middle of the screen and click on the bottom left picture, you will be able to see where "Dixie Youth Approved" is printed on the bat.
Jennifer
Does it have the 2012 USSSA stamp on it Coach J
The Rawlings Plasma (YBPLA3) states on the barrel that it is USSSA BPF 1.15 approved. It will not have the thumbprint stamp on the bat like the big barrel models will require.
John

Need a recommendation between the Rawlings Plasma and the Easton Reflex. My son is 4' 8" and 76 lbs. Can not decide between these two bats. TJ
The Rawlings Plasma and the Easton Reflex are both one piece aluminum bats that are pretty evenly matched. Both would be a great choice for a hitter with your sons profile.
Shelbe
Is this approved for Cal Ripken Majors? SFGFOREVER
Yes. Bats may not exceed 33" long or 2 3/4" diameter.
Damon
My 8.5yr old is currently using a 30/22 bat does fine w/ coach pitch, but struggles w/ faster kid pitch. he is 60 lbs an 4'3'' debating b/w 28/16 and 29/17. seasons over but hoping to use next year. benchmom
If this bat will be used next year, I would recommend the 29" 17 oz model. The 28" model may be recommended for him right now based on his height and weight, but he shouldn't have a problem using the 29" bat next season.
Tyler
I'm about 4'10 and I need a good bat. I am 13 and 80 pounds, is this bat good for me? pickles
The 2012 Rawlings Plasma Youth is a one-piece alloy and comes in a 30" 18 oz. which would be good for your size. This would be a good bat for you.
Damon
I am 5' and 120 lbs. Is this right for me? conman
The 2012 Rawlings Plasma would be a great choice. For your height and weight, a 30" bat is suggested.
Nick
Is this bat composite? j.j
The Rawlings Plasma is a one-piece all alloy bat.
Kara
My son needs a "carbon" bat. I am a mother not a baseball player and I have no clue what that means. Is this a "carbon" bat? Help!!! :) Jen
Carbon is another term for Composite. I recommend using the "Composite Bats" filter on the left side of the webpage under "Shop By Material".
Tyler
Is it a big barrel? chacha
No. The Rawlings Plasma Youth bat is a 2 1/4" small barrel. All "youth" bats are small barrel bats.
Damon
My son is currently swinging a Typhoon. He's got a pretty light build, and I am wondering how much different dropping an ounce off the bat would make. AggieEric
If he needs better bat speed, the Rawlings Plasma would be a good choice for him.
Kara
My son is swinging a worth 28" 18oz, would changing to this bat in a 29" 17oz be a bad decision? cc24
We never recommend moving down in weight as this will make the player's transition to a heavier bat more difficult as he gets older. I wouldn't recommend getting a bat lighter than 18 ounces, unless he struggled with swing speed and bat control with is current 18 ounce bat.
Tyler
My grandson is 11 years old and small for his age 50 1/4" inch tall and weight 58 lbs - would like be a good bat for him? Nana
Yes, the Rawlings Plasma: YBPLA3 would be a good choice. A 29" model would be recommended.
Tyler
My son just turned 7 years old. He is 49" and is 60 lbs. His current bat is 27" 16 oz. or 17 oz. Would you recommend the 28" or 29"? Gina
Based on his height and weight, we would recommend the Rawlings Plasma: YBPLA3 Youth in a 28" 16 oz. model. For more information on sizing, please visit our Bat Coach at http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Aubrey
My son is 8-1/2, 4'6, 86 lbs, big for his age. He has a 2013 Voodoo, 30-17oz. He used this Plasma at a game recently(we live in FL!)and crushed it everytime at bat. I like like to get him one of these too. Should I order a 17oz bat (the same wgt as his Voodo), or the 30in-18oz as he is big for his age? I'd like him to use both bats for the next couple of seasons. Shelly
That's a tough one for us to answer without actually being able to see and analyze his swing with different size bats. It is natural (and recommended) to move up an ounce or two with every new bat. If he had good swing speed and bat control with the 30" 17 oz. Voodoo, then he should be just fine moving up to an 18 oz. model.
Tyler
What size should I use for my 11 year old son? He is about 4' 9'' and 85 lbs. He really likes the look of the bat. JOEY 222
Your 11 year old player should be swinging a bat size of 30" 18 oz. on the Rawlings Plasma: YBPLA3 Youth bat.
Brandon
Is this a good bat for a 12 year old in Cal-Ripken League because I had an Easton reflex last time I played and I disliked it because it hurt when I hit it out of the sweet spot and it was a little to small in length but other than that it was an easy bat to swing. I am 112 pounds and 5 foot and 1/2. Wade Speigner
The Rawlings Plasma: YBPLA3 is legal in Cal Ripken and would be a great choice.
John
My son is 10 years old and stands 4'-10" tall at a weight of 115lbs. Last season he used a 28" 16oz bat. I was wondering if skipping the 29" 17oz and going to a 30" 18oz would create a problem? cajunbaseballdad
Based on his size, a 30" bat is recommended. If he had good swing speed and bat control with his 16 oz. bat, then he should be just fine moving to an 18 oz. bat. It's always recommended a player move up 1-3 oz. in weight with each new bat.
Tyler
Does this bat makes a good sound, my son's current bat doesn't make a sound at all and we don't like it. He is 4'10'' and around 75 pounds. Is the 30" 18oz. bat good for him? He is a very good contact hitter, with no strike outs the whole season last year. contact hitter
There is a small speaker icon to the right of every bat where you can click and hear what sound the bat makes. This bat will make a loud ping sound. The 30" 18oz. should be the perfect size for your son.
Noah
My son is 11 and is swinging a 32" 22 oz. bat. He struggles with bat speed with the faster pitchers. Do I come down with the weight of the bat? 808baseballparent
We typically recommend a 30' to a 31" bat for his age. However, the size is best determined by the height and weight of the player. For faster pitching, we recommend to reduce the weight. To determine the correct sizing for the Rawlings Plasma (YBPLA3) check out our bat coach:
Kara
Does this bat require a break-in period? Wendy
No. The alloy design of the Rawlings Plasma (YBPLA3) will not require any type of break-in period.
Patrick
Is this the same as the 2014 Plasma at Dick's Sporting Goods (DICYBPLAD)? Jim
No. The Rawlings Plasma (DICYBPLAD) featured at Dick's Sporting Goods is a composite bat and the Rawlings Plasma (YBPLA3) that we have is an alloy design.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
