Description

The Rawlings Plasma BBCOR Bat! Ever since Rawlings introduced one of the first BBCOR bats on the market, they've been working to perfect their BBCOR technology and designs. The Rawlings Plasma is just one of the fruits of their labor. The Plasma features a one-piece construction and is made from Rawlings' high-strength Aerospace Plasma Alloy. This durable alloy allows for some of the thinnest walls in the game, giving the Plasma incredible trampoline effect! pOp Technology is applied to the Plasma to allow Rawlings to meet BBCOR standards without using rings or inserts in the barrel. This allows for more barrel flex, a much larger sweet spot and ultimately more pop! This, along with superior end cap technology, also gives the Plasma a reduced barrel weight for increased balance and swing speed! With one of the lowest M.O.I. on the planet, the Plasma will have players hitting the ball to all corners of the field! Rawlings: The Mark of a Pro! The Rawlings Plasma is BBCOR Certified and approved for high school and collegiate play. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

good bat zach player

Pros: pop is outstanding, great looks, huge sweet spot, fantastic "ping" sound when you make contact, recommend for both power and contact hitters

Cons: does not feel like the most balanced bat, it is moderately end loaded compared to some other bats in this price range (easton reflex) due to the one piece aluminum design there definitely will be vibration if you don't hit it on the sweet spot

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Plasma BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBCPL3? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Since there are no inserts, will this bat be durable? Also, does M.O.I affect durability? Adam
The 2013 Rawlings Plasma BBCOR will be just as durable without the inserts. The low M.O.I. will not affect the durability.
Kara
Do you believe that this is a good bat for a contact hitter with some power? Adam
Yes, the 2013 Rawlings Plasma is a perfect fit for a contact hitter with power because the weight is evenly distributed and it is a one-piece bat made with Rawlings Aerospace Plasma alloy.
Tom
What is the main difference between the last Rawlings Plasma model and this one? A-train
The 2013 Rawlings Plasma BBCOR is very similar to the 2012 model. They both are one-piece alloy designs and feature Precision Optimized Performance (pOp) technology as well as Aerospace Plasma Alloy.
Aubrey
Does this bat have the lowest MOI out of all of the Rawlings bats? Also, does it have the same pop as last years senior league Plasma? How does the barrel compare to last year's 5150? big j on the rocks
No, the 2013 Rawlings VELO BBCOR bat will have a much lower M.O.I. than the 2013 Rawlings Plasma BBCOR bat. The pop wont be quite as good either, because it has to meet the new BBCOR standards and both will be one-piece alloy barrels.
Noah

The 2013 Rawlings Plasma BBCOR would be an excellent choice. The Plasma has a lot of pop and is also very durable.

I am deciding on three bats, the 2013 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR, the 2013 Plasma BBCOR, and the BBCOR Louisville slugger Warrior. I am looking for a very consistent bat that is durable. Which one do you recommend? HelloBigPapi
The Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR has unmatched trampoline and durability, as well as the best alloy out of the three.
Chad M.

Noah

The 2013 Rawlings Plasma BBCOR: BBCPL3 Adult bat will only be certified for baseball.
Brandon
Would this bat be good for High School play at 30"? Cleo
The 2013 Rawlings Plasma BBCOR (BBCPL3) is BBCOR certified so it will be legal for play on the high school level. The correct size depends on the a couple factors including a player's height and weight. For more information on sizing, I would definitely check out our Bat Coach: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Tessa L.

Merritt

The main difference would be moving the length up an inch, also you would be moving up to a heavier model of the Rawlings Plasma BBCOR (BBCPL3) with the 29 ounce.

The Rawlings Plasma BBCOR (BBCPL3) would be a baseball bat that would not be good for slow pitch play. What you would want to look into is a slow pitch bat that would be around 27 or 28 ounces and 34 inches long. That would be a pretty standard size for both men and women to handle.
Patrick

The Rawlings Plasma BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBCPL3) will provide power and comfort. The bat grip is very comfortable. This bat is balanced in swing weight and should not feel too barrel heavy.
Brandon
Hows does this bat compare to 2014 Louisville Slugger Warrior BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBWR14-RR? Laurent
The Rawlings Plasma BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBCPL3) is going to be very similar to the Louisville Slugger Warrior BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBWR14-RR). Both the Plasma and Warrior will be a one-piece all alloy design with a balanced swing weight.
John
Does this bat have the BESR label on it? It is required for my son's junior high team which also requires the BBCOR -3 stamp. P.J.
No, the Rawlings Plasma BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBCPL3) does not carry the BESR stamp. BESR (Ball Exit Speed Ratio) is an outdated performance criteria that is not used anymore. In January of 2011, BBCOR (Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution) replaced BESR as the new performance criteria. Since then, all Adult (Drop 3) models must carry the BBCOR stamp. You will not be able to find a composite or alloy bat that was produced after 2011 with the BESR stamp on it.
John H
Is this bat as high performing as the 2014 vexxum nvs? Which is more powerful and explosive? T
The Rawlings Plasma BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBCPL3) is a well-balanced one-piece alloy bat featuring the Aerospace Plasma Alloy as well as a low M.O.I for increased swing speeds. The 2014 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) is a well-balanced two-piece hybrid featuring a C6 composite handle as well as the X10 alloy barrel for top performance. In terms of performance, both bats will perform very similarly. The DXVXC will be more flexible through the zone, allowing for faster bat speed, while the BBCPL3 will be much more stiff through the zone and suited for a power hitter.
Joe
Is this a good bat for a contact hitter? Zach
The balanced swing weight of the Rawlings Plasma BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBCPL3) makes it a nice option for a contact style hitter.
Patrick
I am 6'1" and weigh 145 Ibs. What would be a good size for me? emmanuel
Using our Bat Coach, I would recommend going with the 33" model.
Tom
Of the three bats, which would be most preferred? The Rawlings RX4 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRX4), Easton Typhoon BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13TY), or this Rawlings Plasma BBCOR Baseball Bat: (BBCPL3). Chris
All three bats will be very similar in pop and performance. I have heard the Rawlings Plasma BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBCPL3) will provide good durability also.
Brandon
I'm looking for a one piece bat with a lot of pop? Any suggestions? T
The Rawlings Plasma BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBCPL3) does have good performance for a single piece model. You could also consider the 2015 RIP-IT AIR BBCOR Baseball Bat (B1503A) as well as the 2015 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRVB).
Joe
I am 5'3" and weigh 150 lbs. I am both a power hitter and a contact hitter on my team. Would this be good for me? Chico
The Rawlings Plasma BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBCPL3) has a one-piece design with a balanced swing weight and is a great option for any type of hitter. The balanced swing weight is great for a contact hitter and the stiff one-piece design is great for a power hitter.
Jason

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
