Description

New for Velocity. It's what many swings are lacking, and often times it's not the fault of the player. Many bats are manufactured without swing speed in mind. Rawlings set out to solve this problem, and the result is the new line of VELO bats. Rawlings employs what it calls "the science of balance" to create a bat that not only has a remarkably balanced swing weight but also a much lower M.O.I. (moment of inertia) than its competitors. This is achieved through weight isolation and a new Comp-Lite end cap. This new end cap allows the end of the bat to swing much lighter through the zone and helps players improve the mechanics of their swing. Using Rawlings' proprietary Bi/fusion process, the Comp-Lite end cap is fused to the barrel that is constructed from their premier 5150 Alloy. Regarded as one of the superior alloys on the market, Rawlings' 5150 Alloy has been formulated for higher strength and increased flex to give it the ultimate combination of durability and trampoline effect. 5150 Alloy is a huge part of why Rawlings bats consistently perform at the maximum allowable level by today's standards. Rawlings: The New Standard of Speed! The VELO features the new USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: My 13 yr. old son has been playing ball for over 7 yrs. He has always been a good contact, gap hitter with a long ball every now and then. I have been looking for a more balanced 31", -5 bat that would give him faster bat speed to get out in front and drive the long balls. One afternoon, I watched a middle school team crush the baseball with the Rawlings Machine -3 during BP. I researched the bat and found that it was not available in a -5 so we went with a close 2nd. I had heard that the 5150 Alloy technology is unmatched and that the swing speed of the VELO leads the pack. OMG!!! Rawlings has made a real game changer with this bat. My son has tried the Vexxum, CF5, Voodoo, Louisville Sluggers, Eastons and Marucci. None of the other -5 bats that he has tried over the past two years compare to the bat speed, trampoline effect and POP that he is getting from the VELO -5. My son is hitting the ball harder and further than ever before; CONSISTANTLY!!

Cons: None!!

Pros: Justbats.com

Cons: We have had this bat since Feb, within one week it sounded like rocks were in the barrel, justbats.com was great and replaced it with a new one. About 2 months later the bat again sounded like rocks were rolling around in the barrel, I went through Rawlings and requested the lower end 5150 due to the loss of faith my son has in the VELO bat. We got the bat from Rawlings and they sent the VELO again. The bat now sits in the wrapper in my living room. Craigslist here we come.

THIS BAT ROCKS, LITERALLY LEE Z. parent

Pros: GOOD POP, GOOD BALANCE, HITS WELL OUT OF THE PACKAGE.

Cons: BAD DURABILITY. I READ A BAD REVIEW BUT DECIDED TO PURCHASE THIS BAT ANYWAY, AND IT WAS 100% CORRECT. WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF USING THIS BAT, IN JUST CAGE AND 4 GAMES, IT ALREADY SOUNDS LIKE IT HAS LOOSE ROCKS IN IT. MY SON IS EMBARRASED TO EVEN USE IT BECAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE ROCKS ARE GOING UP AND DOWN THE BARRELL WHEN IT IS TILTED. I'M NOT SURE WHAT THE DEFECT IS, BUT I AM GOING TO SEND IT BACK AND SEE IF A NEW ONE DOES THE SAME THING.

Tyler
Which 2013 bat is better for a contact/line drive hitter the Rawlings VELO or the Marucci Black 2 or would you recommend a different bat? Steve
Both the Rawlings 2013 Velo and the 2013 Marucci Black 2 use high grade aluminum alloys in the barrels of the bats. The difference is the Marucci Black 2 will come with a composite handle which will allow for a little more flex in the swing. We recommend these bats more for contact hitters because of the added flex.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
