The new Prototype II has the extended sweetspot, it's Power balanced for maximum balance. The RIP-IT Prototype II is a great bat! B3 also, excellent bat. Super sweetspot, nice balance, excellent pop. The main difference between the two is that the Prototype II is a one-piece alloy and the B3 is a one-piece composite bat.

The 2012 DeMarini Voodoo and the 2012 RIP-IT Prototype II are both great bats and will be a great fit for you. The biggest difference is that the DeMarini Voodoo is a two-piece bat and the Prototype II is a one-piece design. Many contact hitters prefer a two-piece bat as it provides a whipping like action when swung. Many power hitters prefer a one-piece design as it is a little stiffer when swinging the bat.

The 2012 RIP-IT Prototype II doesn't have any more sting than many of the other BBCOR bats available. The grip should be fine as long as it is taken care of. The DeMarini CF5 and the RIP-IT Prototype II are both great bats but differ in the fact that the Prototype II is a one-piece alloy design and the DeMarini CF5 is a two-piece fully composite design.

In my opinion, the RIP-IT Prototype II will be right up there with the best BBCOR bats. I really like the new Speed and XL bats from Easton. I haven't hit with the S1 or XL1 BBCOR bats yet, but I anticipate they'll also be two of the better BBCOR bats to date.

Which one is a better bat, the RIP-IT Prototype II or the Marucci Cat 5? I really don't know if I'm a power hitter or a contact hitter. I'm 5'8" 156 lbs. I usually hit doubles to the wall and singles. Not so much homeruns. Usually 1 homer every 40-50 ab's . I'm really conflicted . mark
Both are high performing one-piece alloy BBCOR bats. I've hit with both and would say that both have similar pop. I really liked the feel of the Cat 5 though and it was a little more balanced in my opinion. The Prototype would probably be better suited for a strong power hitter though.

RIP-IT has taken the necessary precautions to ensure that the Prottotype II does not go through the same re-certification process as the original Prototype. It shouldn't be a problem.

The RIP-IT Prototype II is a stiff one-piece bat and is a great choice for power hitters. I would try to limit its use when it's below 55 degrees outside as the baseball becomes more dense and the bats are not designed to be used against dense balls.

Last year in college, I used the white Voodoo in the 2 hole and led my team in homeruns but i would not consider myself a power hitter. I would say more of a contact gap to gap hitter. If you had a lot of success with last year's Voodoo, I would stick with the Voodoo. That's my mentality when it comes to hitting. If I had success with a specific model, I stuck with it. Whether that meant getting the new year's model or purchasing the same model (if I was able to). If you want something different, the S1 would be a great option. It's a little more balanced than the Voodoo and great for contact hitters. Contact hitters typically prefer a two-piece design versus a one-piece design. Two-piece bats provide more flex and are less stiff than a one-piece design. If you are looking for a great bat for a contact hitter, I would suggest looking at two-piece designs.

I totally understand your confusion. I have two sons, so I know where you're coming from. If it were me, it would be a toss-up between the RIP-IT Prototype II, which is a power balanced one-piece bat, and the Marucci Black which is a well balanced two-piece hybrid. The Black will have a little more flex in it, better for contact hitters. The PROB2 will be stiffer, better for power hitters. Both are fine bats and among our top sellers. The Rawlings 5150 Velo and the Alloy are similar to the Prototype II as they are also one-piece designs. The Rawlings 5150 Velo is probably the most well balanced of the one-piece designs.

With his height and weight, he should be able to swing the 33", 30 oz. bat. As to which bat, it is a tough call. Both are going to offer what he needs as a power hitter. The COMBAT B3 and the RIP-IT Prototype II are both one-piece bats. As to which one would be better, the Prototype II is an all alloy bat with great pop, but a power balance towards the end of the barrel. The COMBAT B3 is a one-piece full composite design and also power balanced. The decision comes down to composite versus alloy and what his preference is.

My new bat has a loose particle inside the bat that you can hear rolling around. Is this a manufacturing issue? In addition to being irritating, will that effect the performance of the bat? Doug
Typically when this happens, it is a piece of epoxy or glue that the manufacturer used to seal the end cap on the bat. A piece of the glue may chip off and then you hear the piece rolling around inside the bat. More than likely, this sound does not effect the performance of the bat. However, it will be covered under the manufacturer's warranty through RIP-IT.

There has been some issues with the BBCOR certification being on the handle of the Prototype II and not on the barrel as mandated. Our high school umpire association brought this up and has been dealing with the company about the misplacement. Will RIP-IT have a remedy to this problem? AT

I talk to customers all day and the jury is still out about which is better. Based on your height and weight, a 33 inch bat is recommended. With that being said, the Marucci Cat 5 33 inch model has lost its BBCOR certification. All other sizes of the Cat 5 are still legal.

The end cap coming off was a problem with an early batch was sent to us. Since then, RIP-IT has addressed this issue and it is no longer a concern. If your end cap does come off within the first 400 days, please contact RIP-IT and they will replace the bat for you through the warranty.

Your bat has a 400 day manufacturer's warranty through RIP-IT and they will replace the bat because of this issue. RIP-IT has corrected this problem and the newer batches that they have produced have been fixed to avoid this problem in the future.

Since the Prototype II is an alloy bat, it does not require a break-in period and is hot right out of the wrapper. The Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 is similar, but it is a one-piece composite bat and has a balanced swing weight. Although, the Z-1000 is a composite bat, this particular model does not require a break-in period.

The end cap coming off was a problem with one of the first batches that was sent to us. Since then, RIP-IT has addressed this issue and it is no longer a concern. If your end cap does break off within the first 400 days, please contact RIP-IT and they will replace the bat for you under their 400 day manufacturer's warranty.

Based on your height and weight, the recommended size for you would be about a 33 inch bat. You can certainly use a smaller bat if you feel more comfortable swinging a smaller size. If you are a power hitter, either the RIP-IT Prototype II BBCOR bat or the Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR bat would be perfect for you! The biggest difference between the two bats is the material they are made out of. If you prefer a composite bat, the Z-1000 will be perfect for you, but if you would rather have an all alloy bat the Prototype II is the way to go!

What effect do dimpled batting cage balls have on this bat? I have heard that they damage them but I am not exactly sure how. (Denting, cracking, making it lose pop, etc.) If it makes it lose pop, how many hits do you think it takes for that to take effect? LH
Dimpled cage balls are very dense and will shorten the lifespan of your bat. It could lead to denting of the RIP-IT Prototype II's alloy barrel and it will limit the overall effectiveness. We recommend having a bat specifically for cage work and save your game bat for games.

The Easton Z-Core was an alloy bat most similar to the Prototype. It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate. Thus, the Prototype would be the recommended bat for you.

If you are referring to the first part of the 2011 Prototype line, then yes. Many of the 2011 Prototype bats that were produced in their first line got de-certified because they were too hot for the bat standards that were set in place.
