Description

Viper Bats is an American wood bat company that manufactures professional quality wood bats for players of all ages. Viper believes that pro quality wood should be available to any player, in any league, in any part of the country. That's why they've introduced the Little League Ultralight Birch Wood Bat! This is one of the lightest wood bats to ever hit the market! This bat is perfect for younger players as a training bat to gain strength, a transitional bat before moving up to a higher weight, or a game bat to start putting on a show right away! The birch wood utilized in the Viper Ultralight is more flexible than maple, but stronger and longer lasting than ash. Birch also does not flake like ash. The Viper Ultralight (VLLUL) resembles a 271 turn which is one of the most popular styles of wood bats among the pros. It features a 2 1/4 inch barrel diameter with a medium-sized handle and a flared knob. Viper: Made for Players, By Players! The Viper Ultralight is approved for play in Little League, Babe Ruth, Dixie, Pony, AABC, and USSSA. Free Shipping!

Excellent Combination-Lt weight & top performance DD coach

Pros: As our local little league requires wooden bats and after using various Oak and Maple bats over the past few seasons, our 10-yr old son has been using this Viper bat (Birch) for weekly hitting sessions over the past several months and now for the start of little league practice and is thrilled with it. The Viper Birch bat has high gloss finish and seems to be very well balanced (medium flared handle with 2.25" barrel – Little League approved model) and a nice combination of the light weight of the oak and a solid feel closer to Maple. Unlike the previous reviewer, we have found that this bat has taken a beating, as several other players have tried it and are now using it as well. Twelve year old pitchers are throwing pretty hard, so it has been tested. I usually would not write a product review, but we were looking for something that felt right and had some pop – at least so far, this bat does seem to deliver.

Cons: Not inexpensive, but still great value.

Viper Ultralight 31 TK parent

Pros: Bought this bat for my smaller 12yr old son who plays on a competitive travel team. Had a 30" Rawlings but too heavy and bat speed was too slow. With the exception if the handle, this bat swings and is weighted like an aluminum/comp....good balance. Used a digital scale and the 31" weighed in at 22 oz. Good pop off the bat and about 4 kids on the team ditched their wood bats and used this one.

Cons: Price Durability may be compromised due to reduced weight (we had no issues).

Cool looking nice weight, WEAK Rocky Coach

Pros: Looks great feels good and swings right. Had decent pop.

Cons: Not durable at all. My sons team broke 3 of them in 1 day at a 10yo wood bat tournament They all split in the same spot, just above the handle along the grain. They seem like good bats but unfortunately you cant count on them to hold up.

Broken Lawrence Parent

Pros: None

Cons: This was the 3rd bat I bought from viper bats. Not sure why I bought it because the first 2 broke. This one broke on the first hit. They claim to offer a "no hassle" 30 day warranty but will charge $25 to "process " your claim so you can wait another couple of weeks so they can send you another twig to snap.

Broke on first hit Larence Parent

Pros: There are no pros for a broken bat

Cons: My son is a base hitter. His best hits go just past 2nd base. This bat broke on the first hit. Never warmed up with it wanted to save it for the game. Viper bats claimed it has a warranty but they charge a $25 "claim fee" and they will send out another twig. No money back. Why would I want another one of these. They are not worth the lizzard skin wrap I put on it.

Quality Bat James Parent

Pros: My son's and teammates impressions: Great feel and lots of pop off the bat. This was not an overly heavy bat so it didn't interfere with his swing. His teammates loved to swing it, but we had to limit use. Didn't want someone other than my son breaking his own bat. Considering buying another one.

Cons: The dark finish began to crack and deform after about 6 months use. An inside pitch ended it's life after 8 months BP use.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Viper Ultralight Birch Wood Youth Baseball Bat: VLLUL? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

How will this compare to maple, ash, and bamboo bats? CBC #2
Birch wood bats are in-between Ash and Maple when comparing weight, flexibility, and hardness. This wood is much harder than Ash; but it is still flexible and provides a forgiving feel. It has a nice, responsive barrel due to its hardness which is a characteristic shared with similar Maple models. The combination of hardness and flexibility allow Birch wood bats to have a lower breakage rate than other wood types. This Viper Ultralight Birch Wood Bat: VLLUL Youth is also one of the lightest Youth wood bat options available with its -8 to -10 length to weight ratio.
Mac
Can you use this or the senior league model for middle school? I know that you have to use BBCOR wood. 2.4
Typically, middle school would require a Youth Big Barrel model, which would be the same as Senior League. This youth model may be legal depending on the league you are playing in. I would check with your coach or league commissioner to verify if this bat would be legal.
Kelby
How much would the 30" bat weigh? Austin
The Viper Ultralight Birch Wood Bat (VLLUL Youth) has an approximate -8 to -10 length to weight ratio. It will weigh approximately 20-23 ounces.

Can you please tell me how much the 28" bat will weigh? Also is it drop -8 or -10? Cathy
The Viper Ultralight Birch Wood Youth Baseball Bat (VLLUL) falls somewhere between a drop -8 and drop -10. This means that a 28" Viper is going to weigh between 20 oz. and 18 oz.
Jake
I want a -10 wood bat specifically. Why is the weight only "approximate"? momjeans
Unfortunately for wood bats, weights cannot be guaranteed because wood is a natural product and manufacturers are unable to hollow out the inside of the bats to meet the desired weight. That is why the length-to-weight ratio will be listed as approximate on all wood bats. Out of all our offerings of wood bats for youth players, this Viper Ultralight Birch Wood Youth Baseball Bat (VLLUL) will be the bat that offers a length-to-weight ratio that is closest to -10.
Ben
Is this a balanced or end loaded bat? I want to match the metal my son is hitting already. Adam
The Viper Ultralight Birch Wood Youth Baseball Bat: VLLUL is a balanced wood bat.
Cameron
My son loves the Viper he just got but looking for more pop. What other woods would you recommend and do you know of any other bat that he would like? MA
There is not one type of wood bat that will give more pop than what you are currently getting in the Viper Ultralight Birch Wood Youth Baseball Bat: VLLUL. Going to a heavier bat could potentially help as the player will then have more weight to throw into the baseball. Some players prefer maple due to the density property of the wood but this does not guarantee more pop than birch, ash, etc.
Cameron
Is this a good size bat for my 8 year old son? He is batting with an aluminum bat 28" x 18 oz. What size do you recommend? Bone
The Viper Ultralight Birch Wood Youth Baseball Bat: VLLUL would be a great bat to purchase for your son that swings a 28'' 18 oz.
Max
What is the barrel diameter? Is it 2.4"? scott
Th barrel diameter is 2 1/4", or 2.25".
Kyle J.
What does the 30 Day warranty cover? Bano Man
The 30 day warranty on this Viper Ultralight Birch Wood Youth Baseball Bat (VLLUL) is handled through Viper and covers any structural damage that occurs on the bat within 30 days from the purchase date.
Ben
What is the break-in process for a birch bat and does it have to be swung label up or down like other wood bats? James
The Viper Ultralight Birch Wood Youth Baseball Bat: VLLUL does not require a break-in period. As for what side of the barrel to hit with, you will want to hit with the label either facing up or down towards the plate.
