Both the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack XL: Senior League and the 2013 Easton S1: Senior League are great bats. I would check in to how long he can use the 2 3/4" barrel. If it is longer than a year I would go with the 2 3/4". You wouldn't want to again purchase the smaller diameter after just a short while.

You should use caution when temperatures are below 55 degrees. This does not mean you can't use the bat, you just need to limit the number of overall hits on it. Lower temperatures actually effect the hardness of the core of the baseball, not that bat. There is no hard evidence that says bat sleeves and warmers protect the bat from cracking in colder weather.
