Questions and Answers for 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB14S1

96961

What is the difference between the 2014 Easton S1 and the 2012 Easton S1?

The 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB14S1) and the 2012 Easton S1 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB11S1) are very similar to each since they both feature a two-piece fully composite design and a balanced swing weight. The main difference between the two (other than the paint scheme) is that the 2012 model featured the Carbon Nanotube Technology, which was one of the ways they looked to help with the durability of the bat. They moved away from that technology in the 2013 lineup as well as the newest models.

When breaking in this bat, do you have to use real leather baseballs; or can you use plastic baseballs?

We recommend using real, regulation game baseball to break-in the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB14S1. Check out our recommended process: http://www.justbats.com/blog/index.php/3789/breaking-in-your-composite-baseball-bat.

Would you recommend this bat or the RIP-IT AIR Elite for a contact hitter?

The RIP-IT AIR Elite and the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB14S1) will have very similar balanced swing feels. The major difference is that the AIR Elite will feature an alloy barrel with no break-in period required. The S1 will have a composite barrel and will require a short break-in period.

Is this or the DeMarini CF6 more durable? Which bat sustains pop for longer?

The 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB14S1) and the 2014 DeMarini CF6 BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXCFC) are both very durable models and should be roughly the same in terms of sustaining performance.

I am mainly a contact hitter. Should I get this bat or the DeMarini Voodoo?

The 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB14S1) is a two-piece design with a balanced swing weight and is typically better for contact hitters. The DeMarini Voodoo has an end loaded swing weight and is typically better for power hitters.

Should I use a composite bat in the batting cage?

You can use a composite bat like the 2014 Easton S1 (BB14S1) in a batting cage as long as you are hitting real baseballs. If the batting cage uses yellow dimple balls we advise against using a composite bat. The yellow dimple balls are more dense than baseballs and will decrease the durability on the bat.

Does this bat need to be broken-in? If so, how?

Yes, the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR Baseball Bat: (BB14S1) will require a slight break-in. Any type of composite barrel will always need a break-in to help loosen up the composite fibers.Generally, we recommend around 125-150 swings of soft toss, or hitting off of a tee. After each swing, turn the barrel a quarter of an inch each time to help loosen up the fibers all the way around the barrel.

Merritt Expert ·Jul 24, 2014

95004

How long is the barrel of this bat in inches?

The barrel length of the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB14S1) can vary based on what length of the bat you get and what you actually consider to be the barrel of the bat. Some people measuring would start at the end cap while others would start lower and some would stop when the taper starts while others would stop where it ends. The main thing is that the S1 has a well sized barrel length.

Which bat has a lower swing weight, the 2013 Omaha Balanced BBCOR or the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR? Which one will have a longer life span?

Between the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB14S1) and the Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha Balanced BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB136), the S1 will be slightly more well balanced and will have a bit longer lifespan in the peak performance range. Both bats are good BBCOR models though.

How long would this bat last? For high school we start practicing in November and the season starts in February. If I practice with this bat from November to February will it still have pop for the season?

It is tough to say how long any bat, including the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB14S1) will last. With proper bat care, it should last at least a season, if not longer. The composite nature of the bat means that it will need to go through a break in period before it will see its best performance. If properly broken in and taken care of, the bat should be good for use for practice in November til season in February. This model is covered under a 12 month manufacturer warranty through Easton as well, so if it were to become damaged within the 12 months of purchase, you can send it back to Easton for the warranty replacement.

I am 14 and 5'5. I don't consider myself a contact hitter but I'm also not a power hitter. Is the Easton S1 or Louisville Slugger Attack a better bat for me?

Both the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR (BB14S1) and the Louisville Slugger Attack are high performance models from their respective manufacturers. They both feature a balanced swing weight, which is great for player who wants to work on bat speed as well as bat control. Both models are great options to go with, the better bat for you will be a matter of brand preference.

My son is on the short side. He is 5' 110 lbs. Would you suggest the S1 or S3?

Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 31" model in the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR (BB14S1). The Easton S1 has a slightly lighter swing weight compared to the Easton S3, because of the two-piece composite design. The two-piece design helps increase a players swing speed, and is great for contact hitters.

I'm 15, 5'9" and I'm 133 lbs. Should I use a 33" or a 32"?

The 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR (BB14S1) would be best in a 32" 29 oz. at your size.

Brandon Expert ·Jun 07, 2014

My son is 5'11" and weighs 180 lbs. He wants to order an Easton S1 33/30. He currently uses a 32/29, but feels he may be outgrowing it. What is your suggestion?

Based on the approximate height and weight provided, I would suggest a 33".

Merritt Expert ·Jun 05, 2014

If I don't need this bat until spring of next year, can buying it now and letting it sit with out use change its performance?

No, storing the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR: (BB14S1) should not harm the bat or its performance. As long as you are storing it somewhere safe where it is not subject to harm. I would also recommend maybe storing the bat in room temperature just as an added precaution.

I am 14, 6'2" and 180 lbs. I got the Easton S1 33" 30 oz. Did I make the right choice? Should I have bought the XL1?

The 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR (BB14S1) is typically better for contact hitters because of its balanced swing weight. The XL1 is better for power hitters because of its end loaded swing weight. The majority of players are more contact hitters and the S1 is usually a better fit.

I am 14 years old and I weigh 85 pounds. What Easton bat should I get? Also, what size in BBCOR?

Based on your approximate size, I would probably suggest a 32". The 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR: (BB14S1) would work perfectly if you are a contact-hitter. The two-piece structure will provide you with some added flex, and this is typically preferred by contact-hitters. If you are more of a power-hitter, I would probably suggest the 2014 Easton S3 BBCOR: (BB14S3). This model will be a one-piece alloy design, and will be able to provide you with a lot of great pop.

Merritt Expert ·Jun 02, 2014

My son needs his first BBCOR bat and we are trying to decide between the XL1 and S1. He is very tall and slim and is about 5'9" and weighs around 115 lbs. Is size just a personal preference? He is a great batter but I am worried about him swinging a heavier bat. He is currently swinging a -5, 31". Do you think with his height we should get a 32"?

Based on his approximate height and weight I would suggest 31". However, ultimately it will come down to player preference, and what feels most comfortable. The 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR: (BB14S1) will be extremely balanced, and the weight distribution will be the biggest difference between this model and the 2014 Easton XL1 BBCOR: (BB14X1). The 2014 Easton XL1 BBCOR (BB14X1) will be slightly end-loaded, and generally this feature is preferred by power hitters. The slight-end load will make the bat feel slightly top heavy.

I am 5 foot 3 and weigh 105 pounds. I am mostly a contact hitter but I still want enough pop to get the ball in the gap. I was wondering if I should get the XL1 or S1?

Based on your height and weight and your description of your strengths as a hitter we would suggest going with the more balanced 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR (BB14S1). The more end-loaded 2014 Easton XL1 BBCOR (BB14X1) would not be as beneficial to your style of play.

Patrick Expert ·May 18, 2014

What bat is better the 2014 XL1 or the 2014 S1?

The 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR (BB14S1) and the 2014 Easton XL1 BBCOR (BB14X1) will have the same performance off the bat. Both bats will feature the same IMX composite in the barrel. Deciding between the two will be a personal preference. The Easton S1 is designed for speed because of the very balanced swing weight. The Easton XL1 is designed for power. It will have a large barrel but will have and endloaded swing weight.

Did Easton make any revisions on this bat besides cosmetic (grip, cxn piece, etc)?

How should I care for this bat for maximum use?

The first step is to properly break-in the bat. We recommend to take 100-200 swings off a tee or soft toss. Rotate the barrel about a 1/4" each swing. Do not use the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR (BB14S1) in batting cages that use yellow dimpled balls. We also recommend not to use any composite bats under 55 degrees.

Is this bat literally all composite? Also including the endcap and the knob?

In the Easton S1 (BB14S1) excluding the grip and end cap and knob the bat is a two-piece composite. The end cap and knob will be made out a plastic material.

87247

I am 6'1 and weigh around 150 lbs. Which size do you think is best for me? I was thinking 33". Does composite last longer than aluminum? Why do composite bats cost so much more than aluminum?

Based on the information you provided I would recommend a 33" 30 oz. in the 2014 Easton S1 (BB14S1). They usually have the same shelf life but composite has been known to last slightly longer because of the design of the bat and each individual carbon fiber aids in the structure of the bat. The reason why composite bats tend to cost more than aluminum is solely based on the manufacturer. It also costs more to make composite bats than aluminum.

I am looking at buying a new bat. I am between the Easton MAKO and the Easton S1. What are some pros and cons to each bat. I have been using the Marucci Team Black. I like it, but I would like some more pop and a longer barrel.

Both the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR (BB14S1) Adult and the MAKO are two-piece composite designs with balanced swing weights. The MAKO and the S1 are very similar, but the MAKO features an extended barrel and Easton's newest composite material. The Extended barrel and the new composite provide the MAKO with a slightly bigger sweet spot.

I'm between this bat and the RIP-IT Air Elite. What would be the pros and cons in their performance, feel and pop?

The performance between the RIP-IT Air Elite and the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR (BB14S1 Adult) will both be very similar and very high. Also, they both are super balanced and light weight. The major difference between the S1 and the Air Elite is that the S1 will have a composite barrel, while the Air Elite will have an alloy barrel.

The 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR (BB14S1) would be a more balanced bat, but you may lose some power moving from an end loaded bat. The Easton XL1 is one of our more popular end loaded models. Another good option maybe the DeMarini Voodoo line.

I'm a 14 yr. old freshman and about 5'2", I don't know whether I want to get the 2014 Easton S1 or the Marucci Team. I'm a contact hitter and would like a light feeling bat. I like both bats and have swung them both multiple times. Can you help me make a decision? (Why one over the other, pros/cons, etc.)

The three pros that push the S1 over the Team in terms of quality are that the S1 should last longer with the composite barrel, offers more flex and trampoline effect with the two-piece design, and also helps eliminate vibration with the two-piece design and composite handle. The biggest pro of the Team model is the price point and that it's hot right out of the wrapper. It's a pretty balanced option as well.

My son is a 14 year old freshman who is 5'7" and weighs 133 pounds. I bought him a S1 31" bat. The coach says that none of his freshmen should have a S1 bat because their swing is not fast enough and that I should have bought him a S3. Is this correct? Does the S3 have a faster swing than the S1?

The 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR (BB14S1) and the Easton S3 are both very balanced bats. The Easton S1 is a two-piece bat and is designed for a contact hitter. The Easton S3 is a stiffer,one-piece bat and is typically preferred by power hitters.

How do the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR (BB14S1) Adult and the 2014 Easton S2 BBCOR (BB14S2) Adult compare in performance and feel?

The 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR (BB14S1) Adult is a two-piece full composite and will be higher performing than the 2014 Easton S2 BBCOR (BB14S2) Adult which is also a two-piece bat, but will have a composite handle and alloy barrel. Both bats will have flex and cut down on vibration because of the two-piece construction but the Easton S1 will be higher performing because of the composite barrel.

How well does the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR handle cold weather?

Generally, we do not recommended using a bat like the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR (BB14S1) in temperatures below 60 degrees. Lower temperatures will decrease the bats performance and increase the potential of cracking.

Is the S1 manufactured in the US? I don't mean assembled in US, just wondering if it's US made?

The 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR: BB14S1 Adult bat is manufactured by Easton. Here is their direct number if you'd like to ask them: 1-888-259-1297. At this time I do not know the information.

Between the S1 and the MAKO which one will have a lighter feel because I'm almost 14 so i need to go up to a bbcor but i don't know what to get?

The 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR: BB14S1 Adult and the MAKO are both balanced bats. They have some of the lightest swing weights available on the market today. The 2014 Easton MAKO swing weight will be lighter than the S1. The MAKO features an extended barrel design to go along with a super balanced swing weight. Either would be a great selection.

does the s1 have a bigger sweet pot than the s2

The 2014 Easton S1 (BB14S1) and the 2014 Easton S2 (BB14S2) will have very similar sweet spots because they both are apart of Easton's Speed Series. The difference between the two is that the S1 has a composite barrel and the S2 has an alloy barrel.

The 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR (BB14S1) Adult and the 2014 Easton MAKO BBCOR (BB14MK) Adult are both balanced two-piece fully composite designs, but the MAKO is one of the lightest swinging bats on the market.

Is there any advantage to buying an Easton S1 or XL1 compared to the Mako other than price?

The Easton XL1 is end loaded which will make it a better choice for a power hitter. However, for a contact hitter the MAKO would be the best choice because it will have the lightest swing weight with an extended sweet spot.

My son likes a stiff bat like the 2012 Easton S1. He does not like a bat with much flex. With that in mind, how does the 2014 S1 compare and what other bat would you recommend?

The SIC Black Carbon composite in the handle of the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR: BB14S1 Adult actually provides a stiffer flex than the IMX Composite in the handle of the 2012 S1. If your son likes the balance of the S1, and is looking for a bat with a stiff flex, the 2014 model is a great choice. If he truly likes a stiff flex, a one-piece bat (ie Easton S3) would be a great choice.

I'm 5'4 and weigh 170 pounds. Which bat and size would you recommend between the Easton MAKO and the Easton S1?

Based on your height and weight, we recommend a 31" bat. The 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR: BB14S1 is a balanced bat so if you are more of a contact hitter, this would be a great option for you. The 2014 Easton MAKO BBCOR: BB14MK features an extended barrel design to go along with a super balanced swing weight, so it is more of a combination of the S1 and the Easton XL1. Either would be a great selection, the decision would come down to which bat you personally prefer.

Hi, I'm curious for Christmas what size bat I should get. I used a 31" 28 oz. last year. I'm 15 5'4" and 120 lbs. I'm getting ready for high school ball and I'm not sure if I should still stick with the 31" 28 oz. or move up to a 32" 29 oz.

Based on your height and weight we recommend a 31" 28 oz. 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR: BB14S1 Adult.

what is the difference between the 2014 Easton S1, S2, S3, and S4? Do you have a preference on the four bats? Are there some better than others?

For the specific differences between the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR: BB14S1 Adult and other S Series bats, check out this JustBats Blog Article: http://goo.gl/gpTE8A. The S4 is the same as the S3, but it offers a slightly smaller 2 1/2" barrel diameter that makes the bat lighter and more balanced. It's a great transition bat for a player's first BBCOR model. The S1 is the highest quality model of the four because of its two-piece composite design. All four models have balanced swing weights for maximum bat speed.

The 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR: BB14S1 Adult would be a great choice for your body type and hitting style. But the 2014 Easton MAKO would feature an extended barrel design to go along with a super balanced swing weight. Either would be a great selection.

How does this bat's "pop" compare to the old Marucci Cat 5?

What are the main differences between the S1, S2, S3, and S4? Is there one that is better? Thanks.

The S1 is going to be Easton's top of the line model that they have to offer. It is going to be a two-piece full composite design. The S2 is going to be considered a hybrid. It will have an alloy barrel and composite handle. The S3 will be a one-piece all alloy design. The S4 will be a one-piece all alloy design just like the S3 model. The difference between the two will be the S4 will have a 2 1/2" barrel. With the S4 having a smaller barrel it will also have a lighter swing weight as well.
