Description

Louisville Slugger has a rich tradition of quality dating back to 1884. Since their beginning, Louisville Slugger has focused on improving their bats year in and year out in order to help make players the best they can be. One of last year's hottest new designs was the TPX Catalyst, and it's ready to jump start baseball players' games again this season! Made from C1C Composite, the one-piece Catalyst is designed to send the ball flying! The C1C Composite is precisely layered with toughened epoxy resin to make it not only high performing, but insanely durable for a mid-level priced bat! The thing that really makes the Catalyst stand out though is the -12 length to weight ratio! This unique design makes the Catalyst one of the lightest senior league bats to EVER hit the market! The Catalyst is topped off with the patented Louisville Slugger End Cap that dampens vibration and traps that energy in the barrel to create explosive bat to ball contact! With a 7/8 inch tapered handle and a synthetic leather grip, the Catalyst will feel amazing in your hands as you prepare to hit your next homer! Louisville Slugger: Leave Your Mark! The Catalyst features the USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp and is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

2014 Improvements! Marty parent

Pros: The Catalyst is a team favorite for my son's 9U travel team. Last year he used the 2013 29" bat, this year he got the 2014 30" bat. According to him, the new bat has significantly reduced vibration through the handle - and after break in, this bat appears to have all the pop that the 2013 had. This bat is more than a cosmetic upgrade from the 2013 from what we've seen so far. Can't wait for spring ball to start!!!

Cons: None so far!

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! Rhett Slater parent

Pros: Good Pop, for awhile.

Cons: IT WILL ABSOLUTELY BREAK, GUARANTEED. Same bat, I'm told, as last year's, with fresh paint. Bat is extremely endloaded. An inside pitch from a 9 y/o destroys this bat like a Mariano Rivera cutter. My son's broke twice and guess what, "[Replacement] bats fulfill the remainder of the original warranty." So you only get one. If you're looking to spend $200 a month on bats, then this is the one you want.

Damon
Is this the replacement for the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst XL: SL13CXL Senior League? Have you sold any? Not sure to go with the 2013 or the 2014 ken
The replacement for the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst XL (SL13CXL) is the 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL (SLCT14-RX). The only differences between the 2013 and 2014 models are cosmetic. We have sold the 2014 models.
Tori
How do you break-in this bat? Ewa Beach
A video that demonstrates our recommended composite bat break-in process can be found through the link below. The amount of break-in time will vary from bat to bat, so this 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst: SLCT14-RR Senior League may take less time to get game-ready. Mac
Is this a good bat for power hitters? Adam
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst: SLCT14-RR Senior League bat is a one-piece composite design and will have a stiffer feel which is often preferred by power hitters.
Damon
I've seen this bat advertised as a "youth" bat. Is this bat approved for Little League play? Shawn
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst: SLCT14-RR is not approved for Little League.
Kara
Is this bat BBCOR Certified? EAN
No, the 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst (SLCT14-RR) is not BBCOR certified.
Tessa L.
How does the 2014 LS Catalyst Senior League Bat compare to the Demarini Vexxum Senior League Bat? Mark
The 2014 DeMarini Vexxum:(DXVXR) Senior League is going to be a two-piece hybrid design with a balanced feel. The C6 composite handle will provide more flex and trampoline. The 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst: (SLCT14-RR) Senior League is going to be constructed using C1C composite. This model will be very lightweight. The primary differences between these two bats will be in the materials used to construct the overall composition. Both have extremely good reviews so far, and have been very popular.
Merritt
Is this bat good for a power hitter? mrbaseball
Yes this bat would be good for a power hitter because it is a one-piece composite design. The one-piece composite feel will give the hitter a stiffer feel.
Zach B
Is this bat Approved for play in Little League, Babe Ruth, Dixie, and Pony? Yili
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst (SLCT14-RR) is only approved for Pony. All of the other leagues require a 2 1/4" barrel.
Kara
Dixie allows 2 5/8" bats. Do you know if this bat would be legal? Tim
Dixie Baseball does allow 2 5/8" barrel diameters in certain divisions, but they do not allow big barrel bats with composite barrels (unless they are the heavier, -3 BBCOR certified models). Because this 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst (SLCT14-RR) Senior League bat has a composite barrel and -12 length to weight ratio, you cannot use it in Dixie.
Mac
Would you suggest this -12 bat for a contact hitter or a power hitter? Coolio
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst (SLCT14-RR) Senior League bat's lightweight balanced design is a good option for a contact hitter.
Patrick
I have read this bat breaks easy on many reviews. I don't want to spend $200 on a bat that is going to break in a month, is there any truth to this? justin e
As long as the 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst (SLCT14-RR) Senior League is not being abused or misused the durability should be top of the line. This bat is covered under a 12 month manufacturer's warranty.
Aaron
Is this bat used for kid pitch hard ball? joe
Yes, the 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst (SLCT14-RR) is made to be used in kid pitch leagues.
Bobby
I am looking for a one-piece composite bat that is 27". What would you recommend? My son is 7 years old, weighs 51 lbs, and his height is 4'2" tall. Tim
The 2014 COMBAT Portent XL Senior League Baseball Bat (PORSL210) would be an excellent choice, and meets the requirements that you are looking for. COMBAT is very well known for having extremely hot composite material. This model incorporates a lightweight, 100% one-piece composite design, and will work great for younger players.
Merritt
I'm a 10, almost 11 year old in Intermediate Division looking for a good bat size and weight. I use a 31 inch 19 oz. bat for Majors. Orioles8
If you're in the Intermediate Division of Little League baseball, you are not permitted to use a bat with a composite barrel unless it is BBCOR certified, which means it has a -3 length to weight ratio. However, you can use any bat with a 2 5/8" barrel diameter if the barrel is made of alloy. We regrettably won't have any -12 models for that type of bat, and most will be -10s. Some good options for that size and design include the DeMarini Vexxum (DXVXR), Marucci Elite (MSBE14), and Slugger Omaha (SL136). All three bats are very balanced, and you can see them in this link: http://goo.gl/kOpqtN.
Mac
My son is 5 feet tall and weighs 101 pounds. He plays 9U travel ball. Last year he swung a 30 inch 18 ounce bat. Ideally, I'd like the same in a Big Barrel model. genolove
The Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT14-RR) would be one of the few big barrel bats that features the -12 length to weight ratio. We have a few Catalyst models and the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) that would be the only big barrel models available in that size.
Patrick
My son is 6 years old and playing on a 7U coach pitch team. Do you recommend this bat for him? What is the difference between the SLCT14-RR and SLCT14-RX? Kirby
The difference between the Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT14-RR) and the Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT14-RX) is going to be the barrel size. The RR is going to be a 2 5/8" barrel, whereas the RX is going to be a 2 3/4". If your son is allowed to use the 2 3/4" barrel I think the RX would be an excellent option for him.
Jake
Is this Pony baseball Pinto legal? Chad
The Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT14-RR) is legal for play as it carries the USSSA 1.15 BPF.
Joe
My son is a few months shy of 9 years old and he is 4'1" tall and weighs 50 lbs. I need help in choosing the length 28 or 29? drew
Based on his size, I would recommend using the 28" 16 oz. model in the Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT14-RR).
Tom
Is this bat both the RR and RX model marked "youth approved"? Rob
Yes, the Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT14-RR) will have the necessary USSSA 1.15 BPF certification on them.
Brandon
Is this bat Little League approved? chris
The Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT14-RR) has a 2 5/8 inch barrel which is approved for Little League Play in the Divisions: Intermediate(50/70) and Junior League
Frankie
Do both of these bats have "Approved for Pony league baseball" stamped on them? TJ
No. The Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT14-RR) will not have approved for Pony League Baseball stamped on it. Only 2 1/4 inch barrel diameter bats are required to have that stamp within Pony League rules.
Patrick
Can you refer me to a comparable bat as this one is discontinued? Missy
The Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT14-RR is a 2014 model. I have included a link below to the same bat but the 2015 model. http://www.justbats.com/product/louisville-slugger-catalyst-senior-league-baseball-bat--slct152/20997/

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
