Louisville Slugger has a rich tradition of quality dating back to 1884. Since their beginning, Louisville Slugger has focused on improving their bats year in and year out in order to help make players the best they can be. One of last year's hottest new designs was the TPX Catalyst, and it's ready to jump start baseball players' games again this season! Made from C1C Composite, the one-piece Catalyst is designed to send the ball flying! The C1C Composite is precisely layered with toughened epoxy resin to make it not only high performing, but insanely durable for a mid-level priced bat! The thing that really makes the Catalyst stand out though is the -12 length to weight ratio! This unique design makes the Catalyst one of the lightest senior league bats to EVER hit the market! The Catalyst is topped off with the patented Louisville Slugger End Cap that dampens vibration and traps that energy in the barrel to create explosive bat to ball contact! With a 7/8 inch tapered handle and a synthetic leather grip, the Catalyst will feel amazing in your hands as you prepare to hit your next homer! Louisville Slugger: Leave Your Mark! The Catalyst features the USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp and is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Awesome Bat! gobigZ66 parent

Pros: My son plays on a 11U travel team and he absolutely loves this bat. His first base hit on the season was a double! He uses the 29-17 and has no problem keeping up with fast pitchers. The bat has a quick break in period, too. I recommend this bat because it generates a lot of bat speed and can pack a punch!

End loaded Coach Art parent

Pros: Nice looking bat,... It does have good pop on contact.

Cons: Though this bat is a -12 it still feels very end loaded... IMO it is NOT a good bat for a smaller contact hitter... My son is 11 yrs old / 70 lbs and has the 29 / -12 model and his swing looks much slower using this bat vs his Demarini

2014 catalyst worse then 2013 catalyst Justin Gaffney coach

Pros: sometimes reasonable in price.

Cons: these bats break constantly. Louisville's warranty system is terrible and they make you pay to ship it back even if they ship you an incorrect replacement.

Very good bat!! Dad/coach parent

Pros: Son plays 11 majors, he 4'8" 97 lbs. okay, the bat is more for the control the bat type player looking to make good contact, will improve his k/h/w ratio. I don't get the end loaded comment, son says it's way better than his 2 3/4 mako or his 2 3/4 attack xl. But I see a lot of bats are too big for their kids my son swings a 28/29 2 3/4 -10/-12. The catalyst xl is very well balanced and fastest thru the zone we have on the team.

Great bat JS parent

Pros: A lot of pop. Even with less than perfect contact the ball travels well off the bat. Has a unique but solid sound, not the "ping" that most big barrel bats have. My son loves it, and has done great this season. Several of his team mates have used it as well.. My son has 4 out of the park HRs this season, and 4 others on his team have hit HRs with his bat. Good price. The light weight helps with bat speed with faster pitchers, thus giving kids a little more confidence at the plate.

Cons: This is our second one. The first broke after about one year's use (just after the warrantee expired) I've noticed a slight crack in the barrel of this one, although it seems to be surface level (for now). For the price, it's worth one new bat per season given the results he's had with it, but it's too bad they can't improve the quality.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT14-RX? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

My son weighs 60 pounds and stands 4 and half feet tall. He is 8 years old and is starting to play 9u travel baseball, would the 27" 15 oz be a good choice for bat speed and extra pop? sdteeitup
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 28" 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL (SLCT14-RX) Senior League. However, dropping down to a 27" model will help increase his bat speed, because of the lighter weight.
Jason
Is the 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL: SLCT14-RX Senior League bat the newer model of the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst XL SL13CXL bat? What are the differences between the two? Kenny
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL: SLCT14-RX Senior League is the newer model of the 2013 Catalyst XL Senior League. They will both feature the same composite material and the same balanced swing weight. The major difference is the color scheme on the bat.
Brandon
My son is 11 years old, 5'1" and 115 lbs. He is not upper body strong. What size bat do you suggest? Momager
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL (SLCT14-RX Senior League) would be recommended in a 31" 19 oz. at his current size and age.
Brandon
Does this bat come in a bat pack? baseball momma
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL (SLCT14-RX) Senior League does not come in a bat pack. Bat packs consist of older and discontinued models. Last years Catalyst XL, the Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst XL (SL13CXL) Senior League, is available in a few bat packs.
Jason
I'm looking for a new bat for my 8 year old. Is the 28" 16 oz. version of this bat suitable a machine pitch league? Tony
This 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL (SLCT14-RX) Senior League bat would be a good choice for a machine pitch league. The fact that this is a Senior League model means that it should hold up better to higher pitch speeds than a Junior Big Barrel bat that is meant for coach pitch play. And it's one of the lighter Senior League options out there with the -12 length to weight ratio.
Mac
What does the XL on the barrel stand for? I have seen the same bat without the XL. jimmy
The XL on the barrel for the 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL (SLCT14-RX) Senior League means that it will be a 2 3/4" barrel.
Aaron
My 9 yr. old son is in kid pitch baseball this year. He is 51 inches tall and weighs about 60 lbs. Would this be a good bat and what size would you recommend? SPerr
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL (SLCT14-RX) is a great option for a nine year old. It is very high performing. Based on his height and weight we recommend a 29" bat.
Kara
My son is 8 years old and is in kid pitch baseball this year. He is 48 inches tall and weighs 44 pounds. Would you recommend this bat for him? AM
As long as the league you are playing in allows the XL barrel this bat would be a great choice for your player. The 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL (SLCT14-RX) has a nice light swing weight with a -12 length to weight ratio. For a player of your son's size we would suggest the 27 or 28 inch model of the Catalyst XL.
Patrick
My son is 8 and small for his age (4'0", 51 lbs). He plays machine pitch this year and will move to kid pitch next year. I am trying to choose the right length/weight for him. What are your thoughts? Alabama Lawyer
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 28" 16 oz model in the 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL (SLCT14-RX) Senior League.
Jason
My son is 10 yrs old, 57" tall and weighs 70 lbs. He is looking for the 30/18 to give him plate coverage and a light weight bat. Is the 30/18 too long for him? Yanks127
Based on his approximate height and weight the suggested size we would recommend would be 29 inches. However, moving up to 30 inches would also be an option as well. Ultimately, it will come down to what the player feels most comfortable swinging. However, I don't think the 30 inches would be too long.
Merritt
My son is playing 8U coach pitch this year and moves to kid pitch this fall. He is big for his size, 55" tall and 103 pounds. He hits best right now with his Louisville Slugger Lazer which is a 29" 16 oz. bat. I bought him a DeMarini Distance last year which is a 30" 18 oz. bat, but he doesn't have the "pop" I'd like to see. Would this be a good bat for him moving forward? If so, what weight and length would you recommend? Shane
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL (SLCT14-RX) is a very high performing composite bat. It is a great option for him. We recommend a 30" 18 oz. bat for his height and weight.
Kara
My son is 10 years old, weighs 65lbs and is about 4' 2". What size should I get him? Thanks. LD
We would recommend a 28" for your son in the 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL (SLCT14-RX).
John
My son is 10, 63 inches tall and weighs 115 lbs. and can launch the ball when he makes connection. He currently has a TPX 30 drop 10 and his swing is slow, so a lot of strike outs. We're thinking a 30 drop 12 would be better fit for him. He's borrowed a 28 inch 18 oz. bat from another kid and hit well, but it's too short. Looking at the 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL: SLCT14-RX Senior League bat 30 drop 12. Thoughts on the size, weight, etc? Thanks so much, Kim Kim
According to your son's height and weight I would recommend a 31" Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL (SLCT14-RX). If he is more comfortable with a 30" length he can swing it. The Catalyst (SLCT14-RX) in a 30" 18 oz. would be a nice choice if he wants a fast swing speed which would help him generate more power on the ball.
Zach
Is the 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL: SLCT14-RX Senior League 27" 15 oz. bat suitable for competitive 9U travel baseball? My son plays very competitive 9U baseball and he is a real solid contact hitter but he is a small guy (4'1" and 50 pounds). He is currently using a 27" 15 oz. Combat Portent and it sounds dead and has no "pop" and I am looking to make a switch. Any other recommendations? How does this bat (LS Catalyst XL SLCT14-RX Senior League) compare to the Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel 27" 15 oz. bat? Nachy
The 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) is designed for coach pitch only should not be used in machine or kid pitch. The 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL (SLCT14-RX) is a high performing bat and is a great option for a smaller player. The SLCT14-RX and the COMBAT Portent are the only -12 big barrel bats available for machine and kid pitch.
Kara
My son is 8 years old and has this bat is a 29/17. He had an Easton S3 before this and his swing seemed to be faster and hit harder. He seems to pop up a lot with this bat. Is the size bat and weight I have for him correct - or what would you recommend? He is 48" tall and about 60 lbs. landon
Based on your son's height and weight I would advise using the 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL (SLCT14-RX) in either the 28" 16 oz. or 29" 17 oz. Since it sounds like your son is having a little trouble with swing speed, I would advise using the 28" 16 oz. size.
Sean
Is this bat end loaded? bvvvvvv
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT14-RX) features a balanced swing weight.
Mac
My son is 7 and weighs 48 lbs. He plays pitch coach and he is a power hitter. Would you recommend a 27" 15 oz. model or a 28" 16 oz. model? Josh
For a player of your son's size, our bat coach would recommend the Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT14-RX) in a 27" 15 oz. model.
Joe
My son is almost 8. He is 4'2" and 43 pounds. Which size do you suggest? Jo
For a player of his size, our bat coach would recommend the Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT14-RX) in a 27" 15 oz. model.
Joe
My son is 9 and plays travel ball. He has a Mako 28 inch 18 ounce size and finds it to be heavy. He is 57 inches tall and 74 pounds. We are looking at the Louisville Slugger Catalyst 2 5/8 inch 16 ounce 28 inch size. Would you recommend this bat or another one? diane
The Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT14-RX) would be the 2 3/4 inch barrel diameter model. The 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) would be the 2 5/8 inch barrel model. Going with that -12 length to weight ratio instead of a -10 may allow for a lighter swing weight that would be better for your player.
Patrick
Is the 2014 Catalyst 2 5/8" bat legal for Little League? darrin
The Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT14-RX) is the 2 3/4 inch barrel diameter model. The 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) is the 2 5/8 inch barrel model. The 2 5/8 inch model may be legal in certain divisions of Little League, however, you would want to double check with the league director to be sure.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
