Description

Introducing the TRIO, a three-piece hybrid, blending a Comp Lite Endcap, 5150 Alloy, and a composite handle for ultra low MOI and increased barrel flex. Rawlings is out to prove that they truly are on the cutting edge of BBCOR design technology. The original 5150 Alloy BBCOR was one of the first BBCOR bats to hit the market, yet it achieved uncommon staying power and popularity for years after its release. That's because players barely noticed a difference in performance, swing weight, and durability from their BESR bat. Now that Rawlings has had a chance to perfect the design even further, this year's TRIO is sure to be even more popular! The unique feel offered by Rawlings' BBCOR bats is made possible through Precision-Optimized Performance (pOp) Barrel Technology that isolates extra weight to a smaller region of the bat, translating into extra swing speed. Made from the ultra-responsive 5150 Alloy, this three-piece design also features Rawlings' proprietary Bi/fusion process that joins the Comp-Lite end cap to the 5150 Alloy frame to give it more durability and more pop in one single, solitary unit. With a 7/8 Inch tapered handle and premium synthetic grip, the TRIO will feel incredible in your hands. Rawlings: The New Standard of Speed! The TRIO is BBCOR Certified and legal for high school and collegiate play. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Rawlings Trio Anthony player

Pros: Really nice pop and the grip is very comfortable in your hands and also has a very good balance to it. Not to mention that the graphics and colors go very well together, its a great looking bat. I gave it all 5-stars because when I got to swing it at the Rawlings tech center I liked it a lot and it performed very well. I recommend this bat for sure.

Cons: Hurts when you hit it off the end and that's about all

Great Ryan player

Pros: I swung this at a 2014 bat demo that featured all the Easton, Louisville Slugger, and Demarini bats. This bat was by far the best. The ball really jumped off the bat more than any others, and it felt great to swing. Awesome bat.

Cons: None at all.

Trio Jonathan Pryor player

Pros: I am a freshmen on the Wake Forest baseball team and I used to 33 inch Raid this fall. I liked the bat mainly because it had more pop than any other bbcor bat that I used. The only negative was when it was used a lot the top would start to fall off. But the ball really carried and had a big sweet spot to it. I would it hit off the end and would still carry.

Cons: None

Bat for contact hitters Mr. Incredible player

Pros: First, you need to know what type of bat you prefer to swing, Rawlings bats are always balanced very well and are therefore better for contact hitters because you can get your hands through the zone faster, This bat is no exception, I swing the 34 in this model and typically swing a 33 in everything else and i can get my hands through just as fast with this bat. The extra ounce definitely helps with power too. Great pop, very comfortable feel with a LARGE barrel.

Cons: Only had it a couple days, haven't found anything yet.

A very solid baseball bat! Bono Maldonado player

Pros: The ball jumps off the bat exceptionally well! The sound is phenomenal when you hit the ball off the large sweet spot! The bat feels good in your hands and is very nicely designed. Rawlings put his bat together well and I'm looking forward to the 2015 version!

Cons: Like all bats, the paint chips away easy especially if you are making good consistent contact.

Marcus
Is the bat balanced or end loaded? When will the BBCOR VELO come out? robert
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR: BBTRIO Adult is a three-piece hybrid, blending a Comp Lite Endcap, 5150 Alloy, and a composite handle for ultra low MOI and increased barrel flex. It will be very balanced in swing feel. The 2014 Rawlings VELO BBCOR will be releasing soon.
Brandon
How is the TRIO 3 pieces? Branden
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR: BBTRIO Adult bat features a composite handle, alloy barrel and composite endcap.
Aubrey
How does this bat compare to the Rawlings Machine? logger27
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR: BBTRIO Adult is a three-piece hybrid design meaning that it has a composite handle, alloy barrel, and a small portion of composite at the end of the barrel. This allows for the bat to be more balanced. The Rawlings Machine is a two-piece bat, with a composite handle and an alloy barrel.
Tori
Will this bat be better than the Demarini CF6? I have no preference in bats and just want to know which bat is better for a contact hitter. "One More"
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR: BBTRIO Adult is a three-piece hybrid meaning that it has a composite handle, alloy barrel, and a few inches of composite at the end of the bat to even out the swing weight. The DeMarini CF6 will be a two-piece composite, but will have a stiffer feel because of the D-Fusion handle. The Rawlings Trio will offer more flex often preferred by contact hitters.
Tori
Easton S1 2014 or the Rawlings Trio 2014? I want a balanced feel and want to drive the ball to all parts of the field. Should I get the 2014Easton S? 5'10 and weigh 145. baseballkid
Both the 2014 Easton S1 and 2014 Rawlings Trio are going to be very comparable in balance. The main difference between these two bats is that the Rawlings Trio is a three-piece hybrid.
Tori
I'm stuck between the CF6 and the Rawlings TRIO. Which has a longer barrel and which is better for power, launch, and swing speed? Chantz Stover
Both the 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR: BBTRIO Adult and the 2014 DeMarini CF6 BBCOR would be a great selection. Both will have very light swing weights and promote very quick bat speeds. The CF6 will have a D-Fusion Handle that will not allow vibration to reach the hitter's hands and project them back through the barrel for added pop. The TRIO will have increased barrel flex while the CF6 will feel more stiff.
Brandon
What is the difference between MAKO and TRIO? TRIO and Velo? J
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR: BBTRIO Adult is a three-piece hybrid design with a composite handle, alloy barrel, and composite end cap. The 2014 Easton MAKO BBCOR: BB14MK Adult is a two-piece fully composite bat. The 2014 Rawlings 5150 Velo BBCOR: BBV3 Adult is a one-piece all alloy bat. The TRIO, MAKO, and Velo have comparable balance. The MAKO uses Thermo Composite for a bigger sweet spot.
Jason
Is this bat as balanced as the VELO? A
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR: BBTRIO Adult has the same composite end cap as the VELO for an equally balanced swing weight.
Kara
Is it a power hitters bat? Cnote
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR: BBTRIO Adult bat would be great for a power hitter or a contact hitter. It will have a very balanced feel to go along with the three-piece design.
Brandon
How will this compare to the DeMarini Voodoo? Mike
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR: BBTRIO Adult will be more balanced and light weight than the DeMarini Voodoo. The Rawlings TRIO End Load will be more similar to the Voodoo because it will have a comparable end loaded feel.
Tori
Which is better? The Rawlings Trio or Marucci Elite for both contact and power hitters? alexaj
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR: BBTRIO Adult and the 2014 Marucci Elite would both be great for power or contact guys. Both will provide excellent pop and a great feel to the swing weight.
Brandon
Looking at new bats for my son he is 5'7" 135 lbs. What size bat does he need? marcjacobs
Based on his height and weight we recommend a 32" 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO).
Kara
What are the differences, besides feel, between the TRIO BBCOR and the TRIO End Load BBCOR? Is there a difference in pop or power? PeterBaseball33
Both versions of the 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR feature the same BBCOR performance certification, so one will only offer more power if you feel more comfortable with that design. If you're a power hitter with higher swing speeds, you might see better results with the (BBTRI3). But most players should use the balanced version (BBTRI) to the best of their abilities.
Mac
If swing speed was on a scale from 1-10, what would the Trio be rated? What would the Velo be rated? Mid Pacific
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO) has a great swing speed. On a scale of one to ten, I would rate both bats a nine.
Jackson
I had a line that went all the way around the bat right in between the bbcor stamp And the -3 sign. It looks like a crack and you can feel it all the ay around. Its right where the chrome color starts and the black ends? Is it made like that or is it cracked? Has anyone else had this problem? trey
The Rawlings Trio (BBTRIO) is a three-piece hybrid design. This means that the bat has a Comp Lite end cap, an alloy 5150 barrel, and a composite handle. The "line" that wraps around the barrel of the bat is where the 5150 alloy is welded into the the composite handle. All TRIO's will have the defined line on it since that is where the composite meets the alloy material.
Tessa L.
I live in Colorado, and my season starts during the 2nd week of March. It's about 40-70 degrees most of the time. Will the TRIO be alright to use in these temperatures? Baseballer
We do not recommend using any bat under 55 degrees, and the 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR is no exception. However, we understand that sometimes this is unavoidable due to your location. The TRIO is an awesome bat, with a nice, balanced swing and large sweet spot. Durability will always be a concern when using bats in colder weather. The TRIO does come with a full 12 month warranty to cover any dents or cracks that occur during this time frame.
Justin R.
Would the 32" inch TRIO be good for a 5'5" and 120 lbs. contact hitter? Is it very balanced? CougarBaseball
While the 2014 Rawlings TRIO (BBTRIO) is very well balanced, I think a 32" bat might be slightly too large for a player of that size. I would suggest going with either a 30" or 31" bat at this point in time. The Rawlings 5150 (BB513) would be a great choice if you're looking to stick with the same brand.
Marcus
Will the Trio provide a larger barrel and sweet spot than the VELO? Jake
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO) and the 2014 Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR (BBV3) will have a similar sweet spot and barrel.
Kara
Does the Trio BBCOR or the Velo BBCOR have a larger sweetspot and a faster swing speed? PeterBaseball33
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO Adult) bat will most likely have the larger sweet spot because of the higher priced materials used in the design. The VELO will feel very balanced for a one-piece fully alloy design.
Brandon
Would you recommend: the TRIO or the Paradox? I am a 5' 6", 130 lbs, a freshman, and a contact hitter. (Price doesn't matter.) NoLo
Unless you like using end loaded bats, the 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO) Adult bat is much more balanced and is generally the kind of design contact hitters use best. The Voodoo "Paradox" has a slight end load that isn't always the best option for a player who is looking for higher swing speed and control.
Mac
What size bat should I be using? I am 5'9" and I weigh 140 lbs? CPCPCPCPCPCPCPCPCP
We would suggest you use a 32" in the 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO).
Aaron
I'm 15, 5'7", and weigh 130 lbs. Should I get the Easton MAKO or the Rawlings Trio? Preston
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO) would be a great choice for a hitter at your size. The Easton MAKO will provide a longer more extended barrel length. Both will be very balanced also. Either would be a very appropriate choice.
Brandon
I'm on the border between the '14 Velo and the Trio for my bat this summer. The previous two years I have gotten the Rawlings top of the line Velo for my seasons but now that the Trio came out I don't know which one to get. Which bat would you say is better and for the price? THoney
The performance will be about the same between the 2014 Rawlings TRIO (BBTRIO) and the Rawlings Velo (BBV3). The price will be higher on the Rawlings TRIO (BBTRIO) since it is a three-piece and have more flex, The Rawlings Velo (BBV3) will have a stiffer feel since it is a one-piece alloy.
Zach
I am a power hitter who loves the feel of a lighter bat. Should I get the 2014 VELO or the 2014 TRIO? ck43
That will be a matter of preference. The Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO) and the VELO are both very balanced bats, so they will be great to work on bat speed and control. The main difference between the two is that the VELO is a one-piece, whereas the TRIO is considered a three-piece. The decision is completely yours (whether you prefer a one-piece or three-piece) however, power hitters tend to prefer a one-piece bat since it can provide a stiffer feel on contact.
Tessa L.
I have the Rawlings 5150 and I love the feel of a stiff handle! I want something more balanced, does the trio have a stiff handle or does the handle flex like DeMarini? buckeye_5
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO) has a fairly stiff handle, but it does have more flex than the 5150 because of the three-piece design. The hybrid design does feature some flex, but it is not as drastic as Demarini. The Rawlings VELO is more balanced than the 5150 and provides the stiff one-piece design you are looking for.
Jason
So is that bat like the VELO just with a composite handle? njk
Yes, the 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO) has a similar design to the VELO, but features the 3 piece hybrid design with the composite handle.
Justin R.
I am a 5 foot 7 inch 16 year old and weigh 140 pounds. I am a leadoff hitter that swings for contact most of the time but i love some pop. Which model of the trio would be better for me? What size? scoot
I would recommend the 2014 Rawlings TRIO (BBTRIO) for you in a 31"/30 oz size. This model will fit your hitting style well as it features a balanced swing weight.
Bobby
I am a contact hitter that is 5'1"0 and 135 lbs. I can't decide between the TRIO or VELO. What bat would you recommend for me? tyler_5
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO) and the VELO are both excellent bats for contact hitters because of their extremely balanced design. However, the three-piece design on the TRIO provides for a little more flex than the VELO. The extra flex and balanced swing weight are two ideal bat features for a contact hitter.
Jason
I'm 5'10" 190 lbs, and I am about to play collegiate ball. I hit a lot of home runs and doubles. What bat do you recommend, the TRIO or the VELO? I use a 5150 as of right now, and I love the pop. However, I feel it is a little top heavy for me. Zack
I would probably suggest the 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR: (BBTRIO). The three-piece hybrid design will provide you with a little bit of extra flex, and the material will be very hot. This model will be very balanced and light weight. Therefore, you should have no problem swinging through and generating extra bat speed. I think that this model will fit your game, and the materials and technology used will also make it high performing.
Merritt
What is the difference between the TRIO and the VELO? james
This 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO) features the three-piece hybrid design (composite end cap, alloy barrel, composite handle) while the VELO is a one-piece alloy design with the composite end cap. The TRIO would eliminate vibration a bit better with that composite handle.
Mac
I am 6' 9" and weigh 165 pounds. What size bat should I use if I am a contact hitter? Tim
Based on your height and weight, we would suggest the 34 inch length of both the 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO) and the 2014 Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR (BBV3) to ensure good plate coverage. However, you may be able to get away with using a 33 inch if you need the bat to be lighter.
Patrick
What would be the differences in the TRIO and the new CAT 6? Jimmy Pick
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO) is a hybrid design with an alloy barrel but a composite handle and end cap area. The CAT 6 will be a single piece alloy design.
Patrick
What is the difference between the 2014 Trio and the 2014 5150 Velo? Thomas
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO) is a hybrid design with a composite handle and extended end cap area whereas the 2014 Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR (BBV3) is a one piece alloy design.
Patrick
I'm 5'10" 115 lbs and I am still growing. What size and which bat out of the Rawling's line would be best for me? Brooks
Based on your approximate height and weight, I would suggest 31". The Rawlings Plasma BBCOR: (BBCPLA) or the 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR: (BBTRIO) would definitely be great options to take a look at. Both models have been very popular and highly reviewed. If you are looking to generate extra power, these bats will definitely be able to compensate.
Merritt
Is it worth to get a 34 for half the price when I am 6 foot 220 pounds? whs
Sizing is preferential, so if you would feel most comfortable with a 34" 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO), that will be up to you. Generally, you want to swing the heaviest bat that you can comfortably and consistently control. For more information on sizing, check out our sizing chart: http://www.justbats.com/bat-resource-guide/selecting-a-baseballbat/
Tessa
Which bat is this most similar to in the Easton series? canon
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR: (BBTRIO) will be the most similar to the hybrid design featured in the 2014 Easton S2 BBCOR: (BB14S2). Both models will also have a very similar balanced weight distribution.
Merritt
I am 14 years old and I am 5 foot 4 and I weigh 130 pounds. What bat would best fit me that is a BBCOR? J-rod
What type of bat you should get would be based less on your size and more on the style of bat you prefer. There are many different options that would work for you. Based on your height and weight we would suggest a 31 inch BBCOR bat like the 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO).
Patrick
Will the Rawlings Trio have a lighter swing weight and generate more power than the Rawlings Velo? Banshee
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO) will not be as balanced as the 2014 Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBV3) so it would not have a lighter feeling to it. Both the TRIO and the VELO will be BBCOR certified so the maximum performance or power that they can achieve would be similar.
Patrick
Does the trio need to be broken in? Wannabecane
Yes. The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO) is a composite bat and will require some break-in time. Every composite bat differs a little bit, but we typically recommend 100-150 swings.
Damon
Does the three piece design give more pop? slugger77
The three piece design on the 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO) is going to have more flex which is designed to help generate more whip through the hitting zone and will increase pop.
Sean
Is the Rawlings Trio bat end-loaded or a balanced light bat that is easy to get around? miket
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO) is a more balanced design with a lighter swing weight than the end-loaded version of the bat which was the 2014 Rawlings TRIO End-Load BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRI3).
Patrick
Is this bat good for base hit hitters? jrod
Yes, the 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat: (BBTRIO) will be an excellent model for base hitters, as well as contact, and power hitters. The hybrid design will provide great power, and the light weight design will make it easy to swing through the zone.
Merritt
Does this bat have a lighter swing weight than the 2014 Rawlings VELO? Will it soon be available in youth sizes? Yo-Yo
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO) and the VELO both have extremely light swing weights. However, the addition of the composite handle on the Trio provides the bat with a slightly lighter swing weight. At this time Rawlings does not have any plans to release youth models of the TRIO.
Jason
Which bat has a lower MOI (swing speed)? This bat or the Louisville Slugger Attack? HANG-CHEN-WANG
Both the Louisville Slugger Attack and the 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO) will have nearly the same MOI's. One bat is not drastically better than the other.
Brandon
What is going to be the difference between the 2014 and the 2015 Trio? Josh
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO) and the 2015 TRIO will be the same bat. The only difference will be the cosmetic look.
Jason
What other bat will the TRIO feel most similar to? mikey
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO) will have a swing feel like the Rawlings 5150, Easton MAKO, Louisville Slugger Prime 915, Select 715, and Marucci Elite. The TRIO is a very high performing bat with great balance.
Brandon
Should I get the Rawlings Velo or TRIO? Garrett
If you prefer a stiffer feel, I would probably suggest the 2014 Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: (BBV3). This model will incorporate a one-piece alloy design, in comparison to the 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat: (BBTRIO). This particular model will incorporate a hybrid design, and will provide a little bit more flex because it consists of a two-piece design. It will also provide an extra connecting piece to help eliminate vibration, and improve comfort. Ultimately, both models have been very popular and highly reviewed. In the end, it will come down to your overall preference in structure and feel.
Merritt
Is this TRIO balanced or end-loaded? zneddo
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO) will be a balanced bat.
Brandon
I am 13 years old and I am 5 foot tall and weigh 95 pounds. I am a contact hitter but like pop. What bat would you recommend? CJ
The 2014 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO) would be good for a player like you. It has a stiff flex which allows for good control of the bat but is balanced enough to allow for a light swing weight which can lead to more power.
Patrick
I have a raised line that goes all the way around the barrel of the bat right in between the BBCOR stamp And the -3 sign. It looks like the bat is cracked and you can feel it all the way around the barrel. It's right where the chrome color starts and the black ends? Is this really a crack or is this cosmetic? Does anyone else see this issue? Joey A
The Rawlings Trio (BBTRIO) is a three-piece hybrid design. This means that the bat has a Comp Lite end cap, an alloy 5150 barrel, and a composite handle. The line that wraps around the barrel of the bat is where the 5150 alloy is welded into the the composite handle. All TRIO's will have the defined line on it since that is where the composite meets the alloy material. This is strictly a cosmetic look and the bat is not cracked.
Jason
What are the main differences between the Rawlings Trio End-loaded to the Rawlings Trio Balanced. Which one do you recommend? I'm in high school and I don't try to hit home runs but if I get the right pitch, I could. What do you recommend? Chris
Most players are going to prefer the balanced version like the Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO) because it has an easier swing for better bat speed. Power hitter type players may prefer the end-loaded version of the bat which would feel heavier because the weight is more focused to the barrel of the bat on the Rawlings TRIO End-Load BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRI3).

What is the difference between this and the 2015 Velo? hammer02
The composite material in the handle and a slight difference in the amount of composite in the end of the bat make the design of the Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO) much different from the design of the 2015 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRVB). The VELO will have a bit lighter swing weight while the TRIO will have a bit better feel with less sting and vibration on hits of the end of the bat or in toward the hands.

Is this the balanced or end-loaded version of the TRIO? Jay

How will this bat compare to the black 5150 in balance and pop? .
The Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO) is an extremely balanced bat. It will feel more balanced than the 5150. The performance of the two bats is very similar though and one will not outperform the other. It really comes down to preference in design as the TRIO is a three-piece bat with a composite handle, alloy barrel, and composite end cap.

Which bat has better pop and will perform better: Rawlings Trio BBCOR bat or the 2015 Rawlings Velo bat? Tony
The Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO) and the 2015 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRVB) are both extremely balanced bats. Neither bat will outperform the other, it just comes down to whether you prefer the three piece of the TRIO or the one piece of the VELO.

How does this bat compare to the non-college Louisville Slugger Exogrid 3? Acer
The Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO) is a three piece hybrid bat with a balaced swing weight. The EXOGRID 3 is a one piece alloy bat with composite inserts in the handle and features a balanced swing weight. The TRIO will have a little more flex through the zone due to it's three piece structure as opposed to the EXOGRID's one piece structure.

If I buy this and try it out for a few days and am not satisfied with how it's performing for me, can I get a full refund? jakebaseball26
Unfortunately, once the Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBTRIO) has been used to hit with, we cannot take it back for a credit or refund. You can swing the bat to get a feel for it without hitting anything but once it is used for hitting, we cannot re-warranty it so we cannot take it back.

I have a 17 year old son who is looking for new bat with lots of pop. He's 6'1" and 170 pounds as a high school senior. Which bat would you recommend? Thanks Jettman24
Based upon your son's height and weight, I would recommend using a 33" Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBTRIO.

Can I find a new 2012 Bob
I doubt any retailers would have a new 2012 model in stock, so you would be subjected to a used option most likely.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
