The Mako XL A small town coach coach

Pros: The whole team loves it. when we go on tournament trips, the kids always want the Mako XL or the XL3 for the littler guys. Overall its a great bat.

Cons: If you are a coach, you might want to all three because teams can be very diverse strength wise. the Mako, Mako XL, and the XL3 are what I have bought for my whole team and they love it.

Great bat for my 5'9", 160 pound son Mike B coach

Pros: Longest and heaviest bat allowed by Little League. Already been proven with 2 - 3 run homers in 1st week of use by my son. First year he's hit over the fence home runs.

Cons: First time used in batting cages, got pretty marked up. Lot's of ball marks on the barrel.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat: YB15MKX? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

I am 12 years old and I am 5 foot 5 inches tall and weigh 125 pounds. I bat fourth and I am a power hitter. I am trying to decide between the Mako XL and the Mako. What would be the best choice? Bball
For your style of hitting I would recommend the slightly heavier 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX). The added weight and expanded sweet spot allow for a power hitter to get the most out of a youth style MAKO.
Patrick
I have been looking at the Easton series recently, but I really like composite bats. Is this bat composite? baseball
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) is a two-piece fully composite bat with TCT Thermo composite.
Jason
Does MAKO XL replace the XL1 from 2014? Would they be similar with the only change being upgraded composite material? PatW
You're absolutely correct. The MAKO XL will have the same design as a 2014 XL1 with the substitution of the TCT Composite material for the IMX and SIC Black Carbon Composite that was in last year's model.
Mac
I am a contact hitter. If I got this bat should, should I go 1 inch shorter? What size should I get if I am 5 feet tall and 91 pounds? AWESOME kid
Based on your height and weight, we recommend a 30" model of the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX). This model will have an extended barrel that gives it an end loaded swing weight, but I couldn't say that warrants going down an inch to compensate. If you don't think an end loaded bat is right for you, the (YB15MK) would likely be a better choice.
Mac
Is it true that these bats won't hit as well as a metal version until they've been broken in which takes hundreds of hits? BP
Composite barrel bats like the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) do benefit from a short break-in period of about 100-150 hits or so while rotating the barrel. However, it is not a necessity to break them in extensively like previous composite designs.
Patrick
I'm 4"5 and 80 lbs. What size bat should I get? j
Based on your height and weight, we recommend a 29" 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX).
Tessa
Does this bat require a break-in? y
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) does require a break-in. We recommend around 150 swings off the tee or soft toss. Make sure you rotate the barrel about a quarter of an inch every 15-20 swings.
John
Which bat has a longer barrel/sweet spot: the 2015 Louisville Slugger Prime 915 or the 2015 Easton XL? Carl
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) has the longest barrel of any youth baseball bat. It has a bigger sweet spot than the Prime 915, because of the longer barrel design.
Jason
I understand that the 2015 MAKO XL has a more balanced weight distribution than the 2014 XL1. My son likes the 2014 XL1. Which 2015 model has the same length to weight ratio (-10) and weight distribution as the the 2014 XL1? I guess I'm looking for the 2015 model of the XL1. Jeff
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) replaced the XL1 in Easton's product line. It will be the most comparable model you can find in a 2015 model. The different in weight distribution between an XL1 and MAKO XL will be marginal, so this will likely still be a good choice if he liked the XL1.
Mac
What is the difference between the 2015 MAKO XL and the 2015 MAKO? Kyle
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) is an ounce heavier and has a slightly more extended barrel with an end loaded swing weight. The 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK) will have a balanced swing weight.
Patrick
My son is 11, 57 inches, and 110 lbs. He handled a 30 inch bat well all last season. What length do you recommend? 15
I would recommend either a 30" or 31" in the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX).
Jake
My son is 5'1",105lbs. The bat he uses now is 30"18 oz. He is trying to decide between the XL and the Mako, which do you recommend for him? Micky
The 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK) and the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) will be very similar. The YB15MKX will be the end loaded model and very similar to the XL1 models in previous years. The YB15MK will be more balanced.
Joe
I am 5'8", 12 years old, 125 pounds and I am a power hitter. What size bat should I be using? Last year I used a MAKO, 31 inch, -10. Crush
For a player of your size, our bat coach recommends a 32" 22 ounce bat.
Joe
Does JustBats sell this bat in 2-3/4 barrel? somer
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) is not offered in a Youth Big Barrel/Senior League model with a 2 3/4" barrel. If you would like to view Easton's offerings for 2 3/4" barrels, take a look at the 2015 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL15MK10B) or the 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MKB).
Ben
Is the Mako XL the same thing as a Mako? Andre
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) is actually more similar to the Easton XL1. It will feature a distinct end load as well as a longer barrel, versus the MAKO which will be a well balanced bat.
Joe
My son will be 10 years old. He bats first in the line up. He is about 5 feet tall and 75 pounds. What bat and bat size would he need? Thanks! kel
For a player of his size, our bat coach recommends the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) in a 30" 20 oz. pattern.
Joe
Is this bat approved for Little League use? John
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) is approved for use in Little League play in the Minor through Major division.
Patrick
My son is 10 years old, 4'11 and weighs 80 pounds. What length and ounce should he use? Also is the bat legal for ORBA? freddie
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 30" 20 oz. 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX). This bat does feature the 1.15 BPF USSSA stamp, so it should be legal for play in most leagues, however, we recommend double checking with a league official or coach to be absolutely certain.
Tessa
My son is 5'2" and weighs 104 lbs. What length and weight should he use? Also is the bat legal for little league? the baseball star
We would suggest a 31" bat for your son based upon his height and weight. If you are looking to make a weight increase from the model your son swung last season, we would recommend a weight increase of 1-2 ounces (there are situations in which we would suggest a bigger weight increase). Also, this 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) will be legal for use in any division of Little League except for the Senior League and Big League. However, if your son is allowed to use 2 5/8" barrel diameters in his division, I would consider looking at some of those options as those bats will be able to cover more area of the strike zone.
Ben
Hello my son is 10 years old. He is 5'8" and 92 pounds. What size bat do you think he needs? cj
For a player with his height and weight we would recommend a 31" in the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX).
John
My son is 10 years old, 4'3" and weighs 65 pounds. Which bat Mako or Mako XL and what bat size would you recommend? Tim
I would suggest a 29" 18 oz. 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK) which is a drop -11 over the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) which is a drop -10.
Jake
My son is 90 pounds and 5 feet tall. Last year he was a little smaller and used an Easton MAKO 29 inch 18 ounce bat and did real well with it. Which bat and size would you recommend for this Spring? Burton
Based on his size, I would recommend using the 30" 20 oz. model in the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX).
Tom
Based on his size, I would recommend using the 30" 20 oz. model in the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX).
Tom
What bat should I get him? He is struggling with a 31 inch 21 ounce skinny barrel bat and he says he needs a 30 inch 20 ounce skinny barrel. they call me b
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) is a great option in a -10 length to weight ratio that has a 2 1/4 inch barrel diameter. It's two-piece design can flex which can help improve bat speed and help the player get the bat around faster. The TCT Composite material is high performing and durable.
Patrick
My son weights 95 lbs and is 4'9" tall. He has been using a 2012 Reflex, and I am looking into purchasing one of the MAKO bats. Does the 2014 MAKO or the 2015 MAKO and MAKO XL have more pop? Also, what size do you think I should purchase for him? Jake
These three bats are going to be bery similar in design, the biggest difference is that the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) is an ounce heavier and has a slightly more extended barrel with an end loaded swing weight. Both the 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK) and the Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB14MK) will have a balanced swing weight. For someone of that size, our bat coach feature recommends a 30" bat.
Liz
My son currently has a 2014 Easton S2 and says when he swings, he can feel the bat flex, but feels like the bat flexes too much. He does want the 2015 MAKO but am wondering if this bat is going to flex and if so, how much? all american
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) is a two-piece designed bat, this means that it is going to flex, this will create a "whip-like" effect during the swing, leading to an increase in bat speed. If your son does now like the flex of a two-piece bat, I suggest a hybrid two-piece or a one-piece bat.
Liz
What is the proper way to break-in this bat? unclecharlie
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX), like most composite bats, is best broken in with 150-200 swings off a tee. You will want to rotate the barrel a quarter of a turn every so often and gradually work your swing speed up to 100%.
Jason
My son is 10 years old and he weighs 107 lbs. What size bat will he need? Braco
A 31" 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) should be the perfect size for him. If you'd like him to swing the bat even faster, try a 30".
Brandon
What are the differences between the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth baseball Bat (YB15MKX), the 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK), and the 2015 Easton MAKO TORQ Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKT)? Esexx
Both the 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK) and the 2015 Easton MAKO TORQ Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKT) are going to be a two-piece fully composite bat with a balance swing weight. The only difference between the MAKO and the MAKO TORQ is that the MAKO TORQ has a 360 degree rotating handle. The main difference between these three bats is going to be that the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) will feature a distinct end load as well as a longer barrel, which is actually more similar to the 2015 Easton XL1 Senior League -8 Baseball Bat (SL15X18).
Liz
My son is 12 years old. He is about 5'2" and weighs about 130 pounds. He used the 31"20 oz. MAKO last year. What bat and size would you recommend for him? BeastMode44
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) actually replaced the 2014 XL1 for the 2 1/4" barrel only, and will feature an end-loaded swing weight. For a player of his size, our bat coach would recommend the 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK) in a 31" model.
Joe
My son is 5'5" and 100 lbs. What size do you recommend? Should he swing a regular MAKO or MAKO XL? I can't really tell if he is having trouble with bat speed. JJC
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 31" model. The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) has a heavier -10 length to weight ratio and a slightly end loaded swing weight. The MAKO XL is typically a better option for a power hitter. The MAKO has a -11 length to weight ratio and a balanced swing weight. It is typically better for a contact hitter.
Jason
My son is 10 1/2 years old. He is 4'8" and 77 lbs. What size and weight would you recommend for him? Thank you. wolvi501
A 29" 19 oz. bat would be recommended for him at his current size. The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) is offered in that sizing and would be a great option!
Brandon
I have a 2015 Easton MAKO XL. I wanted to know if I need to do soft toss about 50 times and hit off the tee? Or are there any other ways I can try to break it in so it can be game ready? lucky baseball player 42
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) will need a short break-in period. 200-300 hits from a tee or soft toss should work fine. After that, live cage hitting would be perfect!
Brandon
My son is 10 years old. He is 4'10" tall and 109 lbs. What size MAKO XL would you recommend? Ant

Chinyere
My son is 4'9' and 70 lbs. He's been using a 28/16 Combat Reloaded; is ready for a 29". My question is does the MAKO XL, with the smaller drop and end-load, benefit a smaller player or are we better off with the YB15MK series? Just not sure how much the XL will effect bat speed. Duane
Since the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) has more of an extended barrel it would take longer than the 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK) to get the swing around.
Allison

The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) are very similar bats that will swing and feel the same. Where the XL1 uses IMX composite in the barrel and SIC Black Carbon composite in the handle.
Jason

Frankie
I am 12 years old, about 5'1" and 95 pounds, and I'm an OK hitter. I'm looking for a new bat, because my other bat is older and not too good. Should I get the XL or the regular MAKO? Thatguy
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat: (YB15MKX) would be more for a power hitter. Based on the type of player you are, we would suggest the regular model of the MAKO.
Chinyere
I'm 11 years old, 5'1" and weigh 80 lbs. I'm a contact hitter. Which bat do you recommend? Cj
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 30" bat. The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) has a slight end load and is better for power hitters. The 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK) has a balanced swing weight and is a better option for a contact hitter like you.
Jason
I am comparing the MAKO XL vs. the MAKO. I would say I'm a power and contact hitter. Which one would you recommend? chris more
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) is the model that replaced the Easton XL1, so it will feature the same end loaded swing weight as that model. If you are more of a contact/power hitter, the regular MAKO may be a better option for you, since it is the best of both worlds for power and contact hitting. It features a balanced swing weight, which is great to work on bat speed and bat control, but also features an extended barrel, which is typically only seen in end loaded bats meant for power hitters. If you prefer an end loaded model, the MAKO XL would be the better choice there, but ultimately, it will come down to your own preferences and what has worked best for you in the past.
Tessa

Joe
My son is 54 inches tall and weighs 72 pounds. What bat would you suggest for this season? Mom
The height and weight of the player is useful for determining what size the player would need in terms of length but there would not be a specific bat that we would recommend over others for a given size player. The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) is a very nice option and we would recommend a 29 inch size of the bat based on his height and weight.
Patrick
My son is just shy of 5 feet and 80 pounds. He is 10 years old. He is a contact hitter. What bat do you recommend? Me
For a contact style hitter, I may recommend the lighter 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK) over the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX). The lighter weight can help lead to more bat speed and allow the player to continue improving on form and bat speed.
Patrick
My son is 4 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 63 pounds. He is a thin framed, speedy, contact/line drive hitter. What is your recommendation for him as far as bat length and weight? Is the Mako YB15MKX -10 or the Mako YB15MK -11 a better fit for him? Rich
For a contact style hitter, I may recommend the lighter 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK) over the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX). The lighter weight can help lead to more bat speed and allow the player to continue improving on form and bat speed. based on height and weight, I would go with a 28 inch size.

Chinyere

The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat: YB15MKX and the 2015 Easton MAKO will be the same bat besides the weight distribution. The MAKO XL is going to be more end loaded which is recommended more for power hitters compared to the MAKO, which is a balanced bat recommend for contact hitters.
Cooper
Will the 2015 MAKO XL be waited the same as the 2014 XL1? Scott

Liz
Why is there another Mako XL that looks different? Scotty
We are not aware of another model of the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) being available. There is the regular 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK) then the MAKO XL but those are the only two models in the 2015 lineup.
Patrick

The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) is made of reliable material that has not had many durability issues.

The only difference between the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) & 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK) is the extra ounce in the drop weight.
Jake
Is the Mako XL better than the Mako? yoyo
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) and the Mako are both going to have the same extended barrel. The difference in the two is the length to weight ratio. I wouldn't say one is better than the other.
Frankie
Is it ok to use the Mako XL with a batting tee? MACBEAN

Based on your sons height and weight we recommend using a 30 inch bat. The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) is going to be an end loaded bat and designed for power hitters. The 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK) is going to be a balanced bat designed for contact hitters.
Frankie
I have a 10 year old son. He weighs about 90 pounds and is about 4 foot 3. He is a contact hitter but does have some pop. Would you recommend the Mako or the Mako XL for him, and what size? Bryce little man
Based on height and weight we would recommend a inch size of either the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) or the 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK). Which one would be based on what you are looking for. If you want the lightest swing weight, go with the standard MAKO. If you would like a bit more barrel mass and feel that your player is a stronger swinging player, the MAKO XL may be the way to go.
Patrick
Does this come in other barrel diameters other than the 2 1/4"? dennis
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) is only produced in a 2 1/4" barrel. Easton produces the regular MAKO Senior League model in a -10 drop which is the SL15MK10B. The SL15MK10B model features a 2 3/4" barrel.
John
My son is 5'5 165 lbs he has a demarini defyance he wants a mako 2016 he is 12 so this is his last yr of little league looking at the 32inch 20oz is this a good choice for him concerned dad
The 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX) in a 32 inch 20 oz. model would be a good choice. The year prior to entering high school and the BBCOR bats you want to be using a drop 5 model to help ease the transition.
Cameron
My son is 5 foot 1, 107 pounds and he is 11 years old. He is a power hitter. What size and weight do you recommend? cpark1979
Based on height and weight, we would recommend a 30 inch 20 ounce size of the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX).

John
I am 13 years old. I am 5' 8" 120 lbs. Would you recommend a -5 or -8? toptier79
We would recommend getting a drop 8 in the 2015 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MKX).
Cameron
can u use this bat if you're not as strong and not a power hitter baller beast
Absolutely, the two-piece bat is going to give some flex throughout the swing, which actually benefits a contact hitter more. However, the end loaded swing weight is typically preferred by power hitters, whereas contact hitters prefer balanced swing weights. Here at JustBats, we just give that information for recommendation purposes. If you are a contact hitter and have experienced success with an end loaded swing weight, then this bat would be a fine option for you.
Nick
For the sticker you add on, can you remove it? hahuahaha
The stickers we add to the bats, like the Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat: YB15MKX, when they are purchased are to help distinguish our bats when/if they need to be sent in to manufacture during the warranty process. One does not have to keep this sticker on the bat though if they wish it to be removed.
Cameron
Does this come in a batpack with the white easton mako? If it does not, which do you prefer? shhx
No it does not come in a batpack with the Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL15MK10B. As far as preference, I would recommend the Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat: YB15MKX to a power hitter, as it has an end loaded swing weight. The Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL15MK10B features a balanced swing weight, which would be beneficial for a contact hitter.
Nick
My 11 year old son is 5'6" 140lbs and is a power hitter. He has used the 2013 XL3 with great success. But now he needs a 32" (would love a 33") for little league majors. My question is would you recommend the XL1 or the XL3 and why? FtLMaverick
I would recommend the XL3 for your son based on a couple factors. You mentioned your son was a power hitter. Typically, power hitters do not like flex in their swing. The Easton XL3 Youth Baseball Bat: YB15X3 is going to feature a one-piece alloy construction, which will have less flex than the XL1 (two-piece). Both bats will feature an end loaded swing weight, which is preferred by power hitters. I would say you are on the right track with going in that direction.
Nick
What's the difference between this and the green Easton MAKO XL? shs
The main differences between the Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat: YB15MKX and the 2016 Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat: YB16MK10 is going to be the cosmetics and the fact that the 2016 model features the updated HYPERSKIN Grip.
John P.
My friend's son is 13 and playing Babe Ruth. He was told he should get a MAKO but we are thinking about the XL3. What are the main differences in these two bats? We are seeing the youth bat in a 32" 21 oz. and the senior league in a 32" 24 oz. Twindaddy10
The Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat: YB15MKX will feature all of the same technology as the regular MAKO (two-piece, composite design) bat but the difference is in the swing weight. Any bat that has "XL" in the Easton line will feature an end-loaded swing weight. This end-load is great for additional power as these bats have a smaller sweet spot with a higher mass concentration. When the ball is squared up properly there will be more whip/pendulum effect created which should lead to additional distance on batted balls. As for the XL3, this bat is a one-piece alloy design with the end-loaded swing weight. In Babe Ruth play for the 13-15 division, one can use a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter. If you went with the MAKO though (which has the composite design) then it would have to be a BBCOR (drop 3 length to weight) bat as all composite barrel bats in the Babe Ruth league must be certified with the BBCOR stamp.
Cameron
My 10 yr old son is 4’11”, 76 lbs. currently using a YB15MK 29”-11 Mako. He’s got 1 HR over 180’ fence already. Considering going to a 30-11 Mako or 29-10 Mako XL? Only 2 1/4” USSSA are allowed in his league. Big barrels have to be USA. Also how does the YB16MK11 compare with the Makos? Cash
If he is seeing success with the balanced Mako (YB15MK), then I would not recommend getting the Easton MAKO XL Youth Baseball Bat: YB15MKX as it is end loaded and will have a different feel when swinging. The YB16MK11 will be the same as far as performance and feel to the YB15MK.
