Fast bat! GoodSyntax coach

Pros: Very fast through the strike zone! Great balance helps all hitters maintain a level swing through the zone. Many hitters lean towards the heavy, top-end loaded bats and end up swinging under balls or popping up because the natural tendency is for the bat head to drop during the swing. This is especially noticeable with weaker hitters and hitters that cannot generate enough bat speed with these heavy bats, so I see the typical drop of the trailing elbow, which causes the bat head to fall at the apex of the swing. But, due in large part to the light weight and balance, I do not see these same swing characteristics with the S3, so I feel that my hitters aren't struggling and their swing has improved by quite a bit because of it. The S3 produces a level, effortless swing. Due to its lightweight barrel it allows hitters to turn on the inside fastball, but has enough pop to allow kids to hammer meatballs.

Cons: Being a very lightweight bat, vibration dampening is kind of weak. The S3 combats this with a very large sweet spot, but even still, if you miss the sweet spot, you know it. There simply isn't enough mass to dampen a ball off the end of the bat. Another concern (which fortunately hasn't been an issue thus far after two seasons of heavy use) is the durability of the bat. The bat hasn't dented yet, and it is being used by many players from contact hitters to my power hitters, but I can't shake the feeling that it is inevitable (probably due to the light weight). Finally, if you're a hitter that doesn't struggle with heavy, top-end loaded bats, just realize that you likely won't have the same power with the S3 as you would with a Mako or similar bat. This bat seems to really help contact hitters (singles/doubles), but doesn't have enough mass to put anything over the fence with consistency. You are trading distance for average with this bat.

Awesome bat ! Tom parent

Pros: This bat out performs our Mako . We've used a mako the last 2 seasons and this bat easily outperforms it . My son is 8u so I don't know if the composite bats need more strength but from the first time he used the S3 he hit 30 feet farther .

Cons: None

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat: YB15S3? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this a composite bat or all aluminum? Kevin
The 2015 Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S3) is an all alloy design.
Patrick
Can you use this bat in intermediate (11-13 year old) division? hgkvbyuoijhcnsjilk
The 2015 Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S3) could be used in that division but you are allowed to use a bigger 2 5/8 inch barrel version that would give you a bit more of an advantage. The model number for that bat would be the 2015 Easton S3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL15S310).
Patrick
Was the denting issue resolved with this new model? Daws
The 2015 Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S3) features new Hyperlite Matrix alloy. This new alloy will help increase durability.
Jason
What is the difference between the S2 and the S3 in the two YB15 models? Does one have more durability? jdogg
The major difference between the 2015 Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S3) and the 2015 Easton S2 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S2) is that the S2 is a hybrid design with an alloy barrel and composite handle and the S3 is a single-piece alloy. The S2 will flex more and will provide more sting and vibration protection.
Patrick
I am looking for a good bat to use in colder weather. Is this bat a good bat to use? I have heard that you should not use a composite bat below a certain temperature. Baseball Mom2014
Most bats can see durability issues in weather below 55 degrees because below that point, the ball can condense and become harder which is harder on the bat. Alloy barrel bats like the 2015 Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S3) tend to hold up a bit better than composite barrel bats in cold weather but can still see issues.
Patrick
My seven year old son is 52" tall and weighs 55 lbs. I am deciding on an Easton S3 or Easton S2 for him. He is a great contact hitter. I had him swing the 2015 S2 and S3, 28" 15 oz. bats. He said the S3 felt lighter to swing versus the S2. Is that accurate? Is the S3 the better bat for a contact hitter? Mdka14
The 2015 Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S3) will be marketed to swing as light as the S2, and S1 from Easton. All of the S-Series bats are made for contact/gap type hitters. If your player thinks the S3 feels lightest, I would definitely trust him. It may be the confidence he needs to keep crushing the ball!
Brandon
Whats the difference between this bat (YB15S3) and the YB15X3 bat? My 11 year old son is a good contact hitter, base hit wise, but nothing too powerful for homeruns. I would be interested in the 31 inch size and I see there is a 2 ounce difference in weight. Is that the only difference? BaseballFanatic
The 2015 Easton XL3 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15X3) will be heavier in both actual weight and in swing weight than the 2015 Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S3). The S3 will be more balanced for a lighter swing while the XL3 will be more end-loaded.
Patrick
My son is 4 foot 5 inches tall and 70 pounds, should I go wit the 29 inch 16 ounce or the 30 inch 17 ounce? He is hitting a 29 inch 16 ounce, and handles it well. TBONE
Using our bat coach it recommends based on his height and weight to get the 2015 Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S3) in a 29 inch. But if you feel he would be more comfortable with the 30 inch 17 ounce we encourage you to go with that.
Frankie
My son plays U8 travel baseball. He is on the smaller side and weighs 50 lbs. Would a 28/15 be too big for him? bob
The best way to determine the correct bat size for a player is by their height and weight. Typically an 8 year old is swinging a 29" bat though. The 2015 Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S3) is an excellent option for just about any player looking to increase their bat speed though. It is very balanced and light swinging. My son turns 12 today. Last year I purchased the S2 30 inch 17 ounce. Is this the right size for his age/weight or should I consider the next size up? What is the difference between the S2 and S3? tony
What size of bat would be good for your son would be based on height and weight rather than age. If you can provide that information, we can get a better idea of what would be a good fit. The 2015 Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S3) is a single-piece alloy design while the 2015 Easton S2 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S2) is a two-piece hybrid design with a composite handle and an alloy barrel.

What kind of break-in period does this bat have? slug
The 2015 Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S3) has an alloy barrel and will not require a break-in period. It will be hot out of the wrapper.

What is the difference between the S2 and S3? depaulj
The 2015 Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S3) is a one-piece alloy bat. The S2 is a two-piece hybrid design with an alloy barrel and composite handle.
Jason
My son is 7 almost 8. He is 4 feet tall and weighs 50 pounds. He is a contact hitter playing 8U travel that is kid/coach pitch in fall and player pitch in spring. I like Easton and will need a thermal composite bat. What bat can you suggest for him? And what size do you suggest? John
If you are wanting a bat that features the TCT Thermocomposite material, the 2015 Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S3) would not be the right model. You would want to look at the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB16MK11) in a 28 inch size.
Patrick
My son is 9 years old (55 inches, 75 lbs) in Little League Minor Division. We got YB14S2 in a 32 inche, 19 ounce(-13), before realizing the right bat size for him. What is the proper bat size? j
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat: YB15S3 in a 29 inch 16 ounce model.
