Really nice bat Jim coach

Pros: This is a really nice bat for the money. My main decision was price point. I probably would have gone for the Z-Core Hybrid if it weren't $100 more. I doubt anyone would be dissatisfied with this bat for the money.

Cons: I am not a big fan of the "Ping" sound. After using composite bats and half and half bats, I like the subtle pop of those types of bats. Other than that, not much wrong with it.

Great First BBCOR Bat! Growing up... parent

Pros: This bat was purchased to get a 12u player ready for next year (90' bases, 60' 6" mound and BBCOR bats). The thing that stands out most is the balance in this bat. The barrel length is also very good when compared against a 5150 or LS 516. Overall, this appears to be a great bat for a 7th grader moving up to the big field.

Cons: None so far.

nice bat Zippy parent

Pros: got great pop and sound when you hit it, the kids love to use it. paided half what the stores were charging. the boys 5 9 140 got him a 31" 28 oz bat, probably should've got a 30 inch like my buddy said to get.

Cons: the paint could be a bit tougher, but they all could, by now all these bats should have a great ceramic coating on the ends to keep them from chipping. other than that its great.

Excellent 1-Piece CoachN coach

Pros: Hot out of the wrapper. Big pop for the price. My 16-year-old wore his first Z-Core until he one-hopped the wall even though it made that "broken" sound. He had more expensive options, but chose to stick with the same model. The result? First game out of the wrapper, three bomb doubles.

Cons: Stronger players will get best benefit. You need serious batspeed to get the "flex and snap" out of a 1-piece aluminum bat. Younger, smaller hitters may be better sticking with composite and/or 2-piece bats. But for a power hitter, this bat really does the job.

Save your money! Coach Joe parent

Pros: Good bat out of the box. Good feel, good pop...etc..

Cons: After a month of use the bat lost pop...It was dead!!! Just like most Easton bats. Called the Company... will not not warranty a dead bat...It took me almost a month to replace a Z that the head plate flew off after a few weeks.. I have 3 Easton bats in my bat trash. 2 Z`s and a Mako... All junk. I guess thats why that have to change them every year...

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Will this be the same bat, besides the paint job, as the 2015 Easton S3Z Z-CORE? Scoops
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR (BB16ZA) is the direct replacement for the 2015 Easton S3Z Z-CORE.
Marcus
What do you think is better for BBCOR, aluminum or composite? bestneverest
At their best, all BBCOR bats like the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) will perform around the same level regardless of material. Alloy barrel bats are hot out of the wrapper and do not require any break-in to perform. Composite barrel bats will need a short break-in period (usually 100-150 swings of soft toss or tee work while rotating the barrel) to reach the performance potential you would want. The trade off is that while alloy bats tend to dull or dent over time and lose performance, composite bats will get hotter and hotter over time until they eventually fail. The way they age differently allows composite bats to usually last in their peak performance longer than alloy barrel bats do.
Patrick

Honestly what's the difference between all the new Eastons and the old XL3? The XL3 was the best bat I ever owned. Which one of the new Eastons compare to the XL3 and is it much better? mike
The XL3 was a one-piece alloy design with an end-loaded swing weight. Looking at the 2016 line with regards to Easton, they only made a few models that will feature this end-loaded design: the 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKTL and the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL. If you prefer the one-piece alloy design then the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA would be the best bat for you but it would feature a balanced swing weight.
Cameron
My son is 13 years old, 5', and 82 lbs. What size bat should he use? mike
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA in a 29 inch 26 ounce model. The smallest size that the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA will feature is a 30 inch 27 ounce model.

What Easton bat compares to the 2015 Easton S3? How does it compare to the 2016 Rawlings VELO? Todd
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA is the 2016 version of the Easton S3. It is very comparable to the 2016 Rawlings VELO in that they are both well balanced one-piece alloy bats.
Marcus
Is this a drop 3? zaiah1518
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA is BBCOR certified therefore it has a -3 length to weight ratio.
Angelique
I am 5'3" and 95 lbs. What size bat should I get? crash
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 30" model in the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA.
Jason
What is the difference between this bat and the S3Z BBCOR 2015 Easton bat? Will Saunders
The biggest difference between this 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) and the 2015 S3Z will be the updated cosmetics and new grip on this 2016 model.
Ben
Does Easton make an end-loaded 30" BBCOR bat? Andy
Unfortunately, this 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) is the only current 30"/27 oz bat we are featuring from Easton and it is a balanced bat. Currently, there will not be any 30"/27 oz Easton models available with an end-load.
Ben
Does Easton make -5 BBCOR bat? spark
Easton, nor any other bat manufacturer, will make a BBCOR bat in a drop 5 model. All BBCOR bats will feature a drop 3 with a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter.
Cameron
I am 5'9", 140 lbs and I play middle school ball. What length would you recommend? ms baseball
Based on your height and weight, we would suggest a 32" model of the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA.
Jason
When is Easton going to come out with their next lineup of bats? luke
The next lineup of bats from Easton that will include the 2017 model of this Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) will probably be released during the end of the summer 2016.
Ben
Can I use this bat for 13-15 Babe Ruth baseball? Chase
Yes, this 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) will be allowed in the 13-15 year old division of Babe Ruth Baseball.
Ben
What is the difference between this bat and the Easton Z-CORE HMX TORQ? baller left fielder
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX TORQ BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZAT has a rotating handle where the bottom hand is placed. The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA has a standard handle.
Angelique
What is the break in period for this bat? david
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA is a one-piece alloy design and will be hot out of the wrapper; as such it does not require a break-in period.
Cameron
Is the handle fat at the bottom or slim throughout the whole handle? jason f
The handle of this 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) will taper into the knob of the bat (i.e. get fat right before it gets to the knob).
Ben
Which Easton bat is most like their 2013 S1 model? Cayden
This 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) is a single-piece, all-alloy bat with a balanced swing weight while the S1 model is a two-piece, all-composite bat with a balanced swing weight. The current model that Easton is making that compares most similarly to the S1 would be the 2016 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MK).
Ben
What does Z-CORE mean? Is there any similarities to the MAKO? shaz
Z-CORE stands for Easton's internal core technology which creates a huge, expanded sweet spot. The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA is a one-piece, alloy construction while the 2016 MAKO is a two-piece, fully composite construction so they will be on the opposite ends of the spectrum as far as overall construction goes.
John P.
Is this bat available with a composite instead of an alloy? KJ
No. the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) is a one-piece alloy. The 2016 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MK) is a two-piece composite if you are looking for a well balanced composite bat.
Damon
Does the Easton MAKO make a person a better hitter? anissa
To my knowledge, there is no bat out there that will make someone a better hitter. There are some bats that may be better fits for one player compared to another (end-loaded versus balanced swing; one-piece/two-piece or alloy/composite). The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA is a one-piece alloy design with a balanced swing weight. This bat would be great for both contact and power hitters alike.
Cameron
Is the extended barrel on this bat the same as last year's model? Are there other balanced BBCOR bats that have a similar extended barrel design? Rich D
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA features the ZCORE Internal Core Technology which is said to create a huge, expanded sweet spot that is very similar to last years model. The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM BBCOR Baseball Bat: MAXAB103 will be extremely well balanced and features a 20-40% larger hitting surface in comparison to other models.
John P.
I'm 5'6" and 150 pounds and play high school ball. What length do you recommend? zane

Cameron
I am 14, 5'4" and 145 pounds. What size Z-CORE would be best for me? Beau W.
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA in a 31 inch 28 ounce model.
Cameron
Is this the same bat as the 2015 Easton S3Z ZCORE bat? Slapper
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA and the S3Z are the same bat other than the cosmetic appearance and the grip tape.
Jason
I'm a power hitter going into high school next year. What bat would you recommend looking at a 33" BBCOR model? Andrew
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA is a one-piece, fully alloy construction which would be ideal for a power hitter and it is available in a 33" length.
John P.
I'm 5'10" and 146 lbs. What size should I get? baseballer11
Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend using a 32" 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA.

Jason

What would you recommend for a hitter that has gap power: (this Easton Z-Core, the Omaha 516 or the Rawlings 5150)? nick
All of the bats being considered are single-piece, all-alloy bats with balanced swing weights. To be honest, if that is the style of bat that you prefer, any of these options will work well for you. However, due to the solid initial reviews we have received on this bat and its great price, I would recommend this 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) bat for purchase.

What Easton bat is like the older XL1 models? andy
The old Easton XL1 models were two-piece, all-composite bats with end-loaded swing weights. This 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) is a single-piece, all-alloy bat with a balanced swing weight. Therefore, it will not be very similar to the XL1 of the past. The most similar model to the XL1 being produced by Easton currently is the new 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR model. That MAKO XL has a two-piece, all-composite design and end-loaded swing weight.
Ben
I am 5'8", 145 pounds. What size bat would you recommend? Cam
Based off of your height and weight we recommend a 32" in the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA.
Cooper
Is this barrel bigger than normal? If so, is it legal for high school use? dalton hudson
The barrel diameter for the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA is 2 5/8"; this is the standard and only size that a BBCOR can feature.
Cameron
I am 5'4" and 130 pounds. What bat size should I get? chloe medrano
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 31" model in the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA.
Jason
I am 5'9.5", 150 pounds. I am normally a contact hitter, and would love a bat with pop. I have the length in mind but I am just not sure what type of bat to get. Could you recommend anything to me? Justinator
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA in a 32 or 33 inch model. The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA is a one-piece fully alloy bat with a balanced swing weight and would make a great option for both contact and power hitters.
Cameron
My son is 14 years old, 5'10" and 170 lbs. What size bat should I buy him? Is this model good for high school? He's going from a 31" -7 in rec ball. Lisa DuPree
For your son's height and weight we recommend a 32" length. The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA is BBCOR certified which is what is required for high school play. If he thinks that a 29 oz. weight will be too heavy, he can certainly continue using a 31" that is 28 oz.
Angelique

Other than the cosmetics, the 2017 Easton Z-CORE SPEED Limited Whiteout BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZSW has a slightly lighter swing weight and a more balanced feel that allows for a faster swing speed compared to the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA.
Angelique
Is this bat only allowed in high school? Or do you think that most Babe Ruth/middle school ball leagues would allow it? JP
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) is would be allowed in Babe Ruth 13-15 and 16-18 divisions as well as high school ball.
Jake
I have tried the Louisville Slugger Prime, Omaha, Easton MAKO and this Z-CORE. Besides the two composite and two alloy what would you say are major differences between the Z-CORE vs the Omaha? And on the composite side, Prime vs MAKO? I am a 15 y/o sophomore playing for my school and I'm on the smaller side at 5'4" and 110 lbs. Which of these bat(s) would you say is best for me with the most balanced swing weight and longer barrel? andrew
There will be slight difference between these 4 bats. The Omaha and Z-CORE will feel similar in balance and have not seen any major differences regarding pop or durability. As for the Prime and MAKO, this is also true. Composite bats in general typically have a slightly larger barrel/sweet spot and will be more balanced compared to their alloy counterparts.
Cameron
Is this a big barrel bat? angel785
This 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) has a 2 5/8" barrel diameter on it which is referred to as big barrel (a 2 5/8" barrel diameter is standard for a bat that features BBCOR .50 certification).
Ben
Is the sweet spot on the Z-CORE XL bigger than the one on the regular Z-CORE? D
The size of the sweet spots will be pretty similar between this 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) and the Z-CORE XL. The biggest difference between the bats will be the end-load present on the Z-CORE XL that is designed to assist players looking to add some more power to their game.
Ben
What will have more natural end load, the Easton Z-Core HMX or the Easton Z-Core Hybrid? 00
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) and the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZH) are both going to be extremely balanced bats. Neither are them are going to have any end load.
Carter
I need a new drop -3 bat for the season. I'm only 5' 5" and 95 pounds, so I need a bat that has pretty even weight distribution and is better for contact hitters than power hitters. 00
Based on our Bat Coach, we recommend going with a 31" 28 oz. 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA, it has a very balanced weight distribution which is ideal for a contact hitter.
Sean
What's the difference between an alloy and composite bat and which should I get? I am 5'5" and 97 pounds and need a drop -3 bat. 000
Alloy and composite are just different materials. One is not better than the other it really is just personal preference. I would recommend the 30"/27oz 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA).
Carter
Can this bat be used in middle school? How about the Mizuno Nighthawk Hybrid? Can that be used in middle school? michelle
Yes, both the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA and the 2016 Mizuno Nighthawk Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16NH are approved for middle school play
Sean
Can this bat be used in sub 50 degree weather? Which bats do you recommend for early season sub 50 degree days? coachb
Aluminum bats, especially those higher performance models with thinner walls, such as the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) should not be used in temperatures below 50 degrees. The problem is not so much the bat as it is the ball. Cold temperatures make the composition of the ball denser, especially the new 'Compacted Core' Balls being offered. This puts unusual stress on the bat walls which will result in denting. There is not any bat that we would recommend using in colder weather. However, composite bats will break in colder weather while aluminum bats will dent. You are able to use a dented bat while you cannot use a broken bat. So if you had to use any bat in these temperatures I would recommend using an aluminum bat.
Carter
Is this bat more end loaded or balanced? Also, my son is 5'11" about 160. What size would you recommend? RP3.
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA is more balanced than end-loaded. As for the size of bat to get based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting a 33 inch model.
Cameron
Does the Z-Core HMX have a break-in time? Tommy Baseball
No, the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA does not require a break-in period. It is hot out of the wrapper.
Jason
How would you compare this bat to the 2017 Easton Z-Core Speed Whiteout bat? Which would you recommend? I am a 4 or 5 hole line drive hitter. I previously had the Easton S500 2014 model which suited me pretty well. joe timm
The 2017 Easton Z-CORE SPEED Limited Whiteout BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17ZSW) is going to be almost the same as the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA). Easton did maximize the 2017 version of the bat by creating a longer barrel and lowering the swing weight. You really cannot go wrong either way, they are almost the same bat.
Carter

My son is going to try out for middle school baseball in his 6th grade year. He currently bats with a -5 or an end-loaded -8 . Going BBCOR is pushing it a little, but he has to make the transition. Do you think this is a good bat for a kid just getting into BBCOR bats? Brock Zombie
I think that this 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) will be an excellent bat with which to start out if your player is new to BBCOR bats. It has a one-piece, all-alloy design and has a balanced swing weight. As well, you can get it in smaller 30" or 31" sizes if needed.
Ben
Looking for bat selection, we play in Chicago land area, tournaments start in April and go through August. My son Shawn is 54" tall and weighs 61 lbs. He used a 28"-13 last year. Looking to go 29". shawn
You would not want this 2016 Z-Core HMX for our son, as this is a BBCOR bat and is intended for high school play and up. Start your search by looking at our Youth bats. Currently the lightest models we have available in 29" length start at 16oz. A good recommendation would be the 2017 Lousiville Slugger Omaha 517 (YBO5173) or the 2017 Easton S3 (YB17S313).
Kyle J.

Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA in a 33 inch if you feel he can handle 30 ounces. Otherwise, based on his age a 32 inch bat would be a better fit.
Cameron

The last two seasons my son swung a Marucci One (32/27) and a Louisville Omaha (31/26). I want to buy him the CAT 6 but I was looking for another option. Would this Easton bat suffice? If not I want to purchase another bat similar to the CAT 6 under $200. Advice please. Coach Rock
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) is very similar to the Marucci Cat 6. They both feature similar one piece aluminum designs and have both been reviewed very well. This is definitely a great option.

John
My son is 5'7" and 120 lbs. What size bat do you recommend? He wants to practice with a 33 to build bat speed and play with a 32. Do you agree? Frank
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA in a 32 inch model. There is nothing wrong with training with a 33 inch bat to help build up strength and increase bat speed. Some players also like to train with wood bats to help improve swing mechanics as wood bats can be a great hitting coach; costly too though as all it takes is one bad swing to break a bat.
Cameron
Instead of the Z-CORE bat pack, could I get the regular MAKO bat pack with this COMBAT? trevpaco
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA, as well as other closeout models of bats, can be featured in various bat packs but we do not have the ability to create a custom bat pack. Thus the bat packs that are currently offered on the website would be the ones we can sell.
Cameron

My son was known to be a power hitter but last season his power hitting seemed too transformer to a more consistent line-drive hitter. Went from a good 4th/5th batter to a good lead off. My son is 5" 8' and 130lbs, and very strong for his height/weight ratio. He was interested in this bat pack. Do you feel this would be a good fit and can you recommend size for both bats? Jw
Yes, the Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) would be a good fit. It is a one piece allow, which is more tuned for power hitters. Its also a balanced bat that is nice to have as a lead off hitter to get great bat speed and control through the zone. Based on his height and weight, a 32" bat would be a good fit for your player. you say both bats, what other bat are you referring to?
Mick
What is the difference between the Easton Z-core hmx bbcor baseball bat: BB16ZA and the 2018 Easton Beast X speed BBCOR Baseball bat: BB18BXS? Welty
The Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA and the 2018 Easton Beast X Speed BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB18BXS are very similar bats. The Beast X Speed is essentially the 2018 model of the Z-Core. However, you can expect upgraded alloy construction in The Beast X Speed which will result in a stronger and more powerful barrel.

JP
Comparing 2 Easton bats. How does this 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR bat compare to the 2011 Easton S1 (black and yellow. Durability, sweet spot, and which one more balance?) My son is 5 ft 10. 175 lbs. Think he be able to handle a 33/30? Quincy
Per your son's height and weight, we would recommend a 33 inch BBCOR. As for the differences between the Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA and the Easton S1, it is simply a matter of design. Both bats are balanced models but the Z-CORE was a one-piece alloy bat while the S1 was a two-piece composite bat. Would not say there was an issue with the durability of either bats and the Z-CORE, being a one-piece design, may give slightly better performance.
