Description

Maximum SPEED - Extreme POWER - Ultimate BALANCE : The Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 is here! With the introduction of their bat line, players around the nation are finding out why more Top 25 teams in NCAA baseball step into the box with a Louisville Slugger in their hands. Slugger made waves in the market with a never-before-seen 3-Piece bat construction, but the TRU3 Dynamic Socket Connection allows for slight movement between the barrel and handle to further maximize barrel trampoline effect and eliminate negative vibration. Combine that with the newly created FCS (Fused Carbon Structure) Composite and Flex Band Technology, the Prime 916 showcases the lightest swing weight and largest sweet spot in the Slugger lineup. This BBCOR certified model features the Flex Band Technology in its barrel. By inserting a 1" composite disc right below the sweet spot, the team in Louisville is able to meet BBCOR standards while keeping the barrel walls as thin as possible. Thinner barrel walls results in a lighter feel, larger sweet spot, and maximum trampoline effect on contact. Doesn't sound too bad, right? Louisville Slugger is more than confident that they've created the best bat in baseball and they're backing it up with the 30-Day Performance Promise. If you're not more confident in your swing in 30 days, send it back! Rounded out by a slick new graphic design and premium Lizard Skins grip tape, the Prime 916 combines comfort and style and is sure to help each hitter "Own The Plate"! The Louisville Slugger Prime 916 is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

***If within 30 days of the purchase the consumer is not completely satisfied with the performance of their Prime 916 bat, they are able to return it to the retailer from which the purchase was made or directly to Louisville Slugger for a full refund of the documented retail price paid.***

Pros: The Bat has a lot of pop, I haven't even broken mine in yet, and the ball still jumps off the bat. There isn't any vibration, and for being a bit end loaded, it still gets around quickly.

Best BBCR bat I've used!!! Beast player

Pros: I bought a 32/29 version of the Prime. This bat has MAD pop!! My first at bat with the Prime 916 I hit a ball of the end of the barrel and it still went 290 feet(It left a mark at the end so I knew it hit the end of the bat). I've had zero vibration and so has my teammates. This bat feels way better than the CF7 and new Mako. It's the best of both worlds having a huge barrel and a light swing weight! The barrel is the same size as the Mako but swings lighter (32/29). The sweet spot is also large. The bat sounds amazing (sounds more solid) compared to the the CF7 and Mako as those bats have a metal ting to it when you square the ball up. The sick color way and Lizard Skins grip just tops it off!!!!

Cons: There is nothing bad about this bat!

Pros: The bat has great pop! It has no vibration what so ever. It is a great bat and best bat that I will probably use in my lifetime. I highly suggest this bat to people just getting into BBCOR or high school.

Nice solid contact! Great Upgrade! Tommy O. player

Pros: Huge Sweet spot! Slightly more end-loaded than a Demarini CF6/7/8, which results in a little more "pop" and further fly-balls. However, this is not a end-loaded bat..it is balanced. Young players used to a BBCOR Mako may find this heavy. The contact feels good with minimal sting, and the sound is solid. Distinctive coloring means I can find it easy.

Cons: The Lizard skin grip is cool, but it started unraveling quickiy (maybe because I'm a lefty). I replaced it with ordinary Easton grip and wrapped in the opposite direction. I am keeping my eye on the barrel as I've heard that it may get loose from the other pieces in the bat.

great bat baseball player

Pros: great pop and balance. can be used for contact and power hitters. more pop than cf8 and mako. soft material creates good backspin.

Cons: The first one i received arrived broken. This bat is prone to a disconnect in the handle and barrel making the barrel spin from the handle. If used in the cold the glue connecting the rubber tru three piece in the center of the bat will start to break off from the bat. If you are a left handed hitter the rubber piece made to taper off the handle located underneath the lizard skin will start to unravel the lizard skin in which reveals the rubber taper object. You will need to redo the handle if you are a left handed batter and need to continue to return the bat once the barrel of the bat begins to spin.

Just know I ball.

Pros: We have recently purchased the 916 as our team bat, and I will say. It's probably the hottest bat I have swung. As a 5'10, 150 pound baseball player I'm swinging the 33 inch bat. I was hitting the ball further than most of the kids on my team. I suggest getting this bat.

Prime 916 has some issues Jim Conley coach

Pros: bats has good pop for BBCOR and nice balance

Cons: we bought 3 Prime 916 bats for 3 different players. the big issue with all 3 bats is the barrel is starting to rotate. you can actually hold the bat in your hands and rotate the barrel. we call Louisville and the rep told us the barrel will rotate 1/8 inch that was acceptable. i told the rep i looked at the bat features and description and not once did they mention the barrel would rotate or spin on this bat. I don't think it has affected performance. the players are saying it feels funny when they swing the bat. we also have a 915 from last year and that barrel does not rotate or spin. if you read the bat features from just bats it does not mention rotation or spinning barrel. just wondering if anybody else is having this issue.

Pros: Great bat, hits the ball a long way.

Cons: At first i thought it was broken because the barrel felt kind of lose. i called louisssvile slugger and found out it is actually supposed to do that. The Barrel feels lose due to the 3 piece technology. According to louisville slugger the barrel should not move more then 1/8 of an inch.

Do NOT Buy This Bat, It Will Break Dave Selig parent

Pros: Hard to say. My high school sophomore who we purchased this bat for has not been able to use it long enough to formulate any kind of positive opinion. Since we have not had a chance to evaluate the pros, I won't give Louisville Slugger credit for anything.

Cons: Bat was purchased in mid March 2016. It is now end of March 2016 and bat is broken. Bat broke in handle, where it now rattles when you swing it. We now get to find out how quickly Louisville Slugger will honor their warranty and replace the bat. I'll also mention that a teammate of my son's purchased this same bat, and his broke as well.

Louisville Slugger Prime 916 trop player

Pros: The pop on this bat is amazing, as the composite feel of this bat is to the equivalent of a -5 bat. Definetly the best -3 (BBCOR) bat out there and is definetly worth the price.

Cons: The lizard skin grip that comes with the bat is cheaper than the typical lizard skin grip you can buy in stores, and it is slowly coming of the bat. Also, the barrel tends to feel a but loose as if the barrel may fly of the bat, but according to Loiusville Slugger, it is supposed to do that because of the 3 piece technology. Not a big problem, but is overall a great quality bat.

When swinging the bat would have a rotation or looseness feel on the handle. Heard from multiple sources and college teams that they have given up on the 916 and only use the 716 or 516. Sent back to LS and had to wait 3 weeks for replacement due to back orders. Assume due to similar issues I had.

Best bbcor on the market anonymous player

Pros: i am a 6'0 180 lbs. 14 year old so i have always went to the end loaded power bats. i bought a 33/30 bbcor version of this bat and love it. it is a great mix of power hitting and contact. i have an xl1, cf8 and mako and have had previous bbcor bats but none have compared. this bat has just as much, if not more pop then the xl1, a lighter and more even swing than the mako with great barrel size. it has an amazing sound to it (kind of wood like) and i have hit it on the handle and end of barrel and it has never hurt. And this bat is definitely the best looking bat right now. Also i love the lizard skin tape the bat comes with. it has a great look on the bat and even better feel. the only bat i have truly felt is worth the price.

Cons: nothing

DJTire

Pros: Seems to hit the ball well, has a large sweet spot, and is well balanced.

Cons: Louisville Slugger obviously has a design or manufacturing flaw with this bat. The first time in the cage with the bat my Son noticed that after about 50 hits, the barrel and handle twisted. If you call Louisville Slugger, they will tell you that this is how it is designed. However, if you read other bat review sights, they say nothing about it, and even some have "experts" who say that if the bat twists there is something wrong with it. As you can read from other reviews, the twisting may be a sign of things to come. If your a gambler, purchase this bat, otherwise avoid it. How do you know if or when the 1/8" twist is going to become a full twist or a break?

Cons: Purchased for 400 in Jan broke in April sent back for broken cap, chipped on the knob, wrap came off. Two weeks after receiving the replacement the handle came loose and the bat is dead. Probably a new design that went to market too fast. Hope the new model is better.

Twist and Shout!!!! Joe parent

Pros: Awesome Pop, great feel, balanced well. Son was batting .695 for his HS Freshman team and loved the bat until it started to twist. CS was exceptional. Took the bat back for a full refund due to bat being on backorder.

Cons: The whole twisting issue. They state that 1/8" is normal but we got it up to 1/4in. Feels like it was going to fall apart. Bought a new one because he loved it so much and two games into it, it is clicking and twisting again. They say it is normal, but feels weird to swing. Returning this one for a refund and looking for something else for him.

Pros: This bat has unbelievable pop. I switched to this from a Cat 6 and could not have been happier, due to the fact it is a three piece you feel almost nothing when you hit the ball whether that is good or bad, I know I had mixed emotion with it, overall it is a very solid bat

Cons: The lizard skin grip on the bat is very low quality, when I first got the bat within the first coupe rounds of BP I took the knob under the grip that makes the handle fat began to come out of the lizard skin, it is a very easy fix however, just go to a local sporting goods store and buy another grip and tape it on yourself

The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) will feel like other balanced BBCOR models with a lighter swing weight.
Damon
Would you reccomend this or the 2015 model for a contact hitter? nick
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) and the 2015 models are both balanced bats designed for contact hitters.
Frankie

The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) is a more balanced bat that would probably be preferred by contact hitters.
Chinyere
Will the 916 and 915 have similar performances? Also, could this bat be used for a power hitter since this bat has the most homeruns in the 2014 world series? dd baseball
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) could be used by either a power hitter or contact hitter and should perform similarly to the 2015 model.
Patrick
I'm going into 8th grade and I'm 5'9" 140 lbs. What size do you recommend? JoeyD
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 32" model in the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163).
Jason
Which bat would be better for a 5'8" 190 lbs. power hitter, the CF7, Mako, or the 916? Also what bat would you recommend me that's light swinging end-loaded composite bat that's BBCOR certified? Beast
The 2015 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB15MK) would be your best bet if you are more of a power hitter. With the extended barrel the MAKO swings heavier than the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) and the 2015 DeMarini CF7 BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXCFC).
Jake
Which bat has a faster swing the CF7, MAKO, or the 916? Also which bat has a longer barrel with a larger sweet spot? Beast
The 2015 DeMarini CF7 BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXCFC) will have the lightest swing weight of the three. The 2015 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB15MK) features an extended barrel which gives it the largest sweet spot. The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) falls right in between the two other bats.
Jake
What is the thickness of the Lizard Skin? jose
Louisville Slugger does not list the thickness of the Lizard Skin grip they used on the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163). In general, it is a fairly thin grip.
Patrick
I'm 6'2" and 170 lbs. What size bat should I be swinging? LA BSBL
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 33" model in the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163).
Jason
Will an end-loaded bat make the ball go farther than a balanced bat? baseball
If you are able to swing them with the same bat speed and form, an end-loaded bat can put more mass behind the ball and possibly lead to more power than a balanced model like the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163). The trade off is that the end-loaded models are more difficult to swing due to the heavier feel.
Patrick
I'm 5'5" and weigh 116 lbs. Is this bat for me? If so how much pop does it have? Dawson
Yes. If you need a balanced BBCOR bat the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) would be a great bat. It is a top of the line model with great pop. We would recommend a 32" model for your height and weight.
Damon
I am 5 foot 8 and weigh 150 pounds. What size bat do you think would fit me best? zach
Based on height and weight, I would suggest a 32 inch size of a BBCOR bat like the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163).
Patrick
How does this bat compare to the BBCOR Marucci Cat 6? I prefer a balanced bat and am currently very happy with the Senior League version of the Cat 6. baseballallday
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) shares the same balanced swing weight as the Marucci CAT 6. From there, there are a lot of structural differences that make each bat unique from one another. The Prime 916 features a two-piece fully composite design, so unlike the CAT 6, it will require a break in before it will reach peak performance. The Prime 916 also features a two-piece design, which allows for more flex on contact. A contact hitter will usually prefer a two-piece design because of the flex that it allows. Two-piece bats flex during your swing, causing a whip-like action that helps the head of the bat whip forward at the moment of contact, generating more inertia and power. A power hitter will tend to prefer a one-piece bat because the one-piece design isn't as forgiving as a two-piece. Two-piece bats with a lot of flex can be a bad thing for a power hitter because it can cause loss of bat head control and a late whipping action. Ultimately, it will come down to a matter of preference on a composite vs. alloy barrel as well as comparing a one-piece vs. a two-piece design.
Tessa
I owned the the Prime 915 last year. I noticed that the bat was pretty end loaded even though it was advertised as a balanced bat. I was a wondering if this bat is end-loaded also? Mr. tyrel the OG
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) is going to be even more balanced than the 2015 version. The Prime 916 features and extended barrel which can cause a slight end-load feel, but it will still feel pretty balanced.
Jake
Does this bat come with a 1 year warranty in case it breaks? Diah
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) features a 12 month manufacturers warranty.
John
How does this compare to the Mako? baseball observer
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) is going to be a three piece composite, balanced bat. The Easton Mako will be a two piece composite, balanced bat, with an extended barrel.
Frankie
What is the difference between this and the Prime 915? Which bat is better for a 5'9 155 lb prospect Brick
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 has the newly created FCS (Fused Carbon Structure) Composite and Flex Band Technology, which give it a lighter swing weight and larger sweet spot than the 2015 Louisville Slugger Prime 915 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9153. It also has new lizard skin grip!
Damon
Can I use this bat in the cold? Because I know first hand that composite bats crack in the cold? Michael
We do not recommend using the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) in weather below 55 degrees because the ball can condense in those temperatures and cause damage to the bat.
Patrick
I am going into 10th grade and I am 6'4" and weigh 240 lbs. What size would you recommend? Dj
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 34" model in the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163).
Jason
Is this bat available in a 31/28? Marrisa
It will be, but as of now we have yet to receive the 31/28 models of the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR (BBP9163).
Marcus
I am 5'9 160 pounds, what bat size do you recommend? I am in 8th grade and am 13 years old. Jackson

Cameron

Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 32" model in the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163.
Jason
Is this bat a better pick than the Louisville Prime 915? pat
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) and the 2015 Louisville Slugger Prime 915 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9153) are extremely similar by design. Both are great choices.
Patrick
Hi I am a 5'10 205 sophomore and I hit for power and contact. I am looking for a balanced composite bbcor bat. I used the 2015 Rawlings velo last year and loved it and loved the weight. I have been looking at the 916 and mako for a composite bat. What bat do you think is better for me and what size should I get? Glyon
Based on your height/weight I would suggest getting a 33 inch 30 oz bat in either the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) or 2016 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MK). Which bat would be better is all personal preference as both bats would be great selections.
Cameron
I am 5'9" and weigh 170 lbs. What size bat would be good for me? Mark
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 32" model in the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163).
Jason
How does the Prime compare to the 5150? sz
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 is going to be a three-piece composite design while the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 will be a one-piece alloy construction. Each bat is going to come with their respective technologies but that is going to be the main difference between the two. One thing that I like to point out is that the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 comes with a 30-Day Performance Promise as well.
John
What is the difference between the 916 and the 716? Sam
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 is a two-piece composite bat with a balanced swing weight. The Louisville Slugger Select 716 is a two-piece hybrid and it has an alloy barrel and composite handle. The Select 716 also features a slightly end loaded swing weight.
Jason
Does the Prime 916 BBCOR come in a 30 inch? Joe
No, the smallest size the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) is produced in is a 31".
John
What kind of warranty do you or Louisville Slugger offer? chris birdsall
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 comes with a 30-Day Performance Promise as well as a full twelve (12) month manufacturer's warranty.
John

John
My son is 13 and is about 5 foot 2, and weighs about 100 pounds. He is a contact hitter and is entering high school next year, which means he will need a BBCOR bat. Would you recommend this bat? If so, what size? TheBaseballDad
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would recommend a 29" 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163. Unfortunately, this particular model is not offered in a 29" length. If it was, I would absolutely recommend this particular 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 as it is an excellent, high-quality composite baseball bat.
John P
what is the 30 day promise about? Is it like a warranty? tony
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 will feature a 30 day guarantee meaning that if you are not satisfied with this bat within the 30 days of the purchase date then you can send the bat back for a full refund of the purchase price or exchange. This bat can be used when sent back within that 30 day window.
Cameron
Is this bat really worth the extra $100 compared to the 716 or should I just buy the 716? Logan6
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 will be listed higher than the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 as it is a fully composite bat while the 716 will be a hybrid (composite handle and alloy barrel). Which bat to purchase really comes down to your personal preference (alloy versus composite) as both bats are great options and will perform similarly.
Cameron
Does the 30 days for the 30 day promise start when you buy the bat or when the bat arrive at your house? Freddy
The 30-Day Performance Promise on the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 starts on the purchase date.
John P
Does this bat come in 32.5 inches?? mark
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 does not come in a 32.5 inch model. If you are looking for a 32.5 inch model, we would suggest looking into the following bats: 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3, 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 or the 2016 DeMarini Voodoo RAW BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVDC.
Cameron
Hello, I am 5' 10" 140 lbs and am more of a contact hitter and I am wondering if the 916 or 716 is better for me? Both seem like great options Casey
Both the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 and the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 would be great options to consider for someone who is a contact hitter. Both bats will feature three-piece designs with balanced swing weights which are preferred by contact hitters due to the ability to control this type of bat easier. As for which one to purchase, the 916 will be composite while the 716 will have a composite handle and an alloy barrel so it comes down to personal preference as both bats will have similar performance abilities.
Cameron
I am 5'10" and 140 pounds. What size would you recommend for me? garrettnelson
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 in a 32 inch 29 ounce model. You are on the borderline of this model and the 33 inch 30 ounce model.
Cameron
Would you recommend the LS prime 916 or the Omaha 516 for a contact hitter? Mike
Both this 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) and the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) will come with a balanced swing weight and either model will work for contact hitters. You'll just have to decide if you like the two-piece design of this Prime 916 or the single-piece design of the Omaha 516.
Ben
I just bought a Prime 916 BBCOR bat. I have heard that these bats should not be used in the cold. Can it be used in temperature below 55 degrees? Billy Mix
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163, as well as other bats that feature a composite barrel, will perform better and be more durable when used in warmer weather conditions (over 70 degrees Fahrenheit). As it gets colder, the baseball becomes denser making the bats more susceptible to cracking (composite) or denting (alloy). With that said, when needing to use any metal bat in less than ideal weather conditions, it is advised to try and keep the barrel as warm as possible.
Cameron
I'm 5'11" 125 lbs. Which model do you suggest? jt17
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 in a 32 inch 29 ounce model. Based on your weight, a 31 inch 28 ounce model would be a better selection but this may hinder your plate coverage.
Cameron
How thick is the grip on the bat? I think that it is .5mm but not sure. Can you please help me ASAP? Blakegris27
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 will feature a 0.5 mm LizardSkin grip tape.
Cameron
are they made in the usa? hammer
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 is made outside of the USA (believe China). To find out exactly we would recommend giving LS a call at 800-282-2287.
Cameron
If I grip the handle and the barrel and rotate them in different directions they both rotate which is felt slightly. Although it is a very slight rotation, the movement is really noticeable on some swings. Is this a normal movement for this bat or should I contact customer service for a new bat? Rob
This is not a normal movement on the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163. The good news is, this bat does come with a full twelve (12) month manufacturer's warranty and will be covered for a free warranty replacement through Louisville Slugger.
John P.
I'm 7'0 tall and weigh 230 pounds. What size should I get? shorty
Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend using a 34" 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163.
John P.
Whats the break-in period for this bat? Is a 31' 28 oz fine for someone that is 5'7" and 137 lbs? John B
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 is pretty hot out of the wrapper, but it will still benefit from about 50-100 swings off a tee. It is always best to rotate the barrel a quarter turn each swing. Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 32" model. However, the 31" 28 oz will work as well if you are more comfortable with that size.
Jason
What size should I get if I'm 5'3, but am going to use this bat for freshman and sophomore year? chlayton
I would recommend considering a purchase for this 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) in the 31" length. As long as you can handle the 28 oz weight, that size should be just fine for use.
Ben
How many hits does it take to break this bat in? nuny
Here at JustBats, to break in the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163, we recommend about 100 - 200 swings either off of a tee or by hand toss with about a 1/4" rotation of the barrel after each swing.
John P.
I currently swing a 33.5 voodoo overlord and have had a ton of success with it in the past. I like to consider myself a power hitter, how do you think this bat compares to the voodoo in terms of putting balls over the fence? bubba bean
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 is a more balanced bat, while the Voodoo OVERLORD is an end loaded bat. If you've been having success with the Voodoo OVERLORD, I'd consider staying with an end heavy model.
Marcus
Is there a warranty on this bat? Joey
This 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) will come with a 30 day trial period on the bat and also a full 12 month manufacturer's warranty period.
Ben
When used in cold weather does the handle come loose? Tucker Horsley
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 handle should not come loose in cold or warm weather; if this is happening then the bat is more than likely defective.
Cameron
After about a month of using this bat, the barrel started to spin and there was a rattle. What is wrong with the bat? dingers
I am not completely certain as to the exact reason for the looseness at the connection point on your bat or exactly why the rattle started. However, you will have a full 12 month manufacturer's warranty period on this 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163). If you purchased through us at JustBats, please reach out to us through phone at 866-321-2287 and we will help you begin the warranty replacement process on this bat through Louisville Slugger.
Ben
Does the 916 come built in left handed version? Rocky
All bats by default, including 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163, will have their grip wrapped for a right handed hitter. If you run into any issues with the grip, that can always be replaced inexpensively and wrapped the opposite way.
Marcus
What drops do they come in? lil cinch
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 is only available in a -3. All BBCOR bats feature a -3 drop. Louisville Slugger makes Senior League models of the Prime 916 available in a -5, -8, and -10. They also make the youth 2 1/4" barrel version of the Prime 916 in a -10, and -12.
Jason
I am 5'3" and a contact hitter/gap to gap hitter. I am looking for a balanced bat with some pop. Would you recommend the Prime 916, Select 716, or Omaha 516? Matt
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 is the best option for you. The balanced swing weight and two-piece design are ideal for your style of hitting.
Jason
I am 5'11" and 185 lbs. I hit with a lot of power and contact. Would this be a decent fit? cooper
Based upon your height and weight, we would make a general suggestion of this 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) in the 32" length. As long as you can handle the balanced 29 oz weight of this bat, I think the 32" model would be a great fit!
Ben
hi i am freshem 5/10 165 and i am gonna buy the prime ans was wondering was size i should get coco
Based on your height and weight, I would recommend swinging a 33" length. This would be a 33" 30 oz. size in the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163.
Nick
Is this Prime 916 going to have more pop than Marucci CAT 6? kyle
Both the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 and the Marucci CAT 6 BBCOR Baseball Bat are very highly reviewed in the pop category. I would not say that one offers more than the other as that is going to vary from player to player.
John P.
I'm a 5'10"/185 lb collegiate player who hits with gap power. I've been swinging a 33/30 DeMarini Voodo Overlord for the past year, and I have not been all that satisfied with performance. Is this a more reasonable bat for my skillset? And also, should I consider a drop to a 32/29? Thanks for your help! BP
Based on your height and weight, I do not think it would be necessary to drop to the 32" 29 oz. size. The DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD FT BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVDC features an end loaded swing weight, so that might explain some of the performance issues. Typically, a player with your skill set would benefit from using a balanced swing weight bat. The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 would be a great option, as the three-piece design is going to give the bat a lot of flex during your swing. This bat will also feature the balanced swing weight, which I believe would benefit your skill set and swing type.
Nick
Is it normal for a twisting sensation in the handle and barrel while swinging? Md
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 should not twist between the handle and the barrel.
John P.
I am 6'0" and 150 lbs. What size bat would you recommend? JohnnySimp
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 33" model in the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163.
Jason
What would you recommend? This bat or the Rawlings VELO? sluggerbane
Both the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 and the Rawlings VELO are excellent, highly reviewed baseball bats. As to which one I would recommend, that is going to depend upon what you're looking for. The Prime 916 is a three-piece composite design while the VELO is a one-piece aluminum design if that helps your decision at all.
John P.
I'm 5'8 what size should I get? Jordan calls
Based on your height, I would recommend a 32" if you weigh above 90-120 lbs. If you weigh more than 120 lbs, I would recommend a 33" length.
Nick
Which bat is more balanced: the VELO, the Select 716 or this Prime 916? sean
Of all the bats being considered, I would say that the VELO is the most balanced, this 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) is the second most balanced and the Select 716 will be third in regard to balance (some will even say it has a slight end-load).
Ben
My son is 6' tall and is about 150 lbs. What size bat would you recommend? He is just starting his freshman year and I am looking to buy a bat for the next 4 years. tony
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 33" model in the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163.
Jason
Does it make you hit dingers? Donnie
I think that the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) has plenty of dinger hitting capability in it. If you were to get this bat the possibility for dingers would be imminent.
Ben
Is this bat very balanced or is it end loaded? sluggerbane
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 has a balanced swing weight.
Angelique
Which is better for a 6'1" 190 pound player who hits with power but also for contact: composite (ex: Prime 916) or alloy (ex: VELO or 5150)? I have used a MAKO in past seasons and I really liked it, but I was wondering if switching to an alloy bat would provide more pop/distance? Anthony
There is not a competitive advantage between using a composite or alloy bat. Neither material is going to perform better than the other material. Typically, we recommend choosing the material that you are more comfortable with and with which you have experience. Typically, power hitters like the one piece structure due to the stiffness of the bat during the swing. All the while, contact hitters prefer two piece designs because they allow for a lot of flex throughout the swing.
Nick
What if the handle of my prime feels loose? Jr
If your handle is becoming loose then you would need to contact Louisville Slugger directly at 1-800-282-2287 and they will walk you through the steps of getting your bat replaced. They will require a copy of your receipt. If you need us to email you a copy please let us know.
John
Is this bat considered more for a contact hitter or power hitter? Ed
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 is a three-piece, composite design which is typically preferred by contact hitters.
John P.
Is this bat game-ready right out of the wrapper? Tom
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 has a fully composite construction that requires a break-in period. We recommend about 50-100 swings off of a tee or soft-toss and turning the bat about a quarter of an inch between each swing.
Angelique
I am 7'5" 350 lbs. What size bat should I get in this model? flaconpower
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 34" model in the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163.
Jason
IS this bat durable and will it last me a few seasons? sam
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 currently has a three out of five star rating in the durability category. Unfortunately, I can not speak to the life of a particular bat as that will vary from case to case. Please refer to our bat care page below for tips that will help you keep your bat in the best condition possible for the longest time possible. http://www.justbats.com/bat-resource-guide/bat-care/
John P.
I am 5'10" and 130 pounds. What size of this bat do you think I should swing? randomdab
Based on your height and weight, we would suggest a 32" model in the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163.
Jason
some of the reviews have said that the barrel and handle will turn and in some cases break? What is the likliehood of this and is this something to be worried about. Is it a design flaw? JJ
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 features the TRU3 piece which features the dynamic socket connection allowing for a slight movement between the barrel and the handle. This is not a design flaw and it is not something you should be worried about.
John P.
My son is 5'1" about 130 lbs. He swings a 30" (-5), but we are trying to get him ready for high school. What bat size do you suggest? Mack
Based upon your son's height and weight, my general recommendation would be to get a 31" model of this 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163). As long as your player can handle the 28 oz weight of the 31" model, I would recommend this bat in that size.
Ben
My son is 5'1" and weighs about 130 lbs. What bat size do you suggest? Mack
For a player of his height and weight, I would suggest getting the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 in the 31/28 size.
Marcus
I'm 5'10 and 180 lbs. What size should I get? dingee
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of the 33" option of this 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163). As long as he can handle the 30 oz weight of the 33" option of this bat, I would recommend that size.

Jake

Unfortunately, we have not received the pictures from Louisville Slugger that display the design for the 2017 version of the Prime 916. I would not be able to give a description at this time.
Ben
What's the difference between this and the Select 716? pup
The 2016 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) is a two-piece bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel and is a bit end loaded. 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) is a two-piece full composite model and is more balanced.
Damon

Bats are usually released around the same time each year but it is all dependent on the manufacturer.

Marcus
How long do you think this bat will stay in stock? Daniel
We will have the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 until it sells out. Inventory numbers can never be guaranteed or even estimated, so we could not venture a guess to how much longer this bat will be available.
Marcus
What is the difference between the Louisville Slugger 916 and Louisville Slugger 516 bats? Boo
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) is going to be a Three-Piece Composite bat. This is going to offer a little bit more flex when making contact with the ball. This will eliminate some vibrations and help with stinging. The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLO5160) is going to be a one piece aluminum bat. Being a one piece design you are going to get a different feeling when making contact with the ball. It will be a little bit more stiff, more similar to the feeling you would get while hitting with a wood bat.
Carter
Could I get this bat for $119.99 in the 31" or 32" sizes? pudge 37
Unfortunately, we are not stocking the 31" or 32" option of this 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) any longer at JustBats (due to availability of those sizes from the manufacturer). However, if we did have those sizes in stock, I would not be able to guarantee the price would be at $119.99.

Jason
My son is 5'11, 210 lbs and 14 years old. Would a 34" bat be good for him? joe
Based upon your player's height and weight, my general recommendation would be for a 33" bat in the BBCOR style. However, if your player has already used a 33" BBCOR bat and you are feeling that he can handle the 31 oz weight of the 34" option of this 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163), I think he could go ahead and use that size of this Prime 916.
Ben
I am a 15 year old, sophomore in high school. I am 5'10" and 240 lbs. Would a 34" be too big for me? Carl
For your height and weight, we recommend a 33" bat length. If you are wanting a slightly longer bat with a heavier feel, a 34" would be suitable, but it will be harder to swing.
Angelique
I am 6 ft and weigh about 170 pounds would a 34" bat be to long? randy orton
Based on our bat coach, we would recommend going with a 33" bat but a 34" bat would not be too long for you to use. If you are using a balanced bat such as the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163, the 34" size should be a good fit for you.
Sean
I am 6'2" and 14 years old. Should I use a 34 in. or 33 in.? jay
The best way to determine the correct size of bat for a player is by their height and weight. However, a 6'2" player is typically better off with a 33". For more sizing information check out our Bat Coach though: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Jason

Ben
Just received a brand new LS Prime 916 youth -12. Everything looks great in wrapper no marks of use but tapping on the end of the bats it has a slight rattle. Is that normal? Rydog
Tough to say whether or not this would be normal. Some bats will experience a rattle (grains of sand or small pebble like sounds) due to the excessive adhesive that is applied to the end cap to seal it to the barrel. Although this does not cause performance issues it can draw the attention of an umpire.
Cameron
Are there any more 33" 30's left in the 916? lambo
Unfortunately, we only have the 34" 31 oz size available still for the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163.
Jason
Are these going to go back to $99.99 again? JH
Here at JustBats we have a 30 day price guarantee. If you were seeing this bat priced at $99.99 within the last 30 days please call at 866.321.2287 to get this price.
Cameron
Is this the bat most similar to the 2014 Louisville Slugger Attack? attack
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 and the 917 are the most similar to the LS Attack as these are two-piece composite bats with balanced swing weights.
Cameron
Is the bat head suppose to move or wiggle when you move it? The barrel feels like it slides when I hit with it. Q
The Louisville Slugger Prime bat is designed to have a bit of play in it due to its unique three-piece design. Once fully broken in there does seem to be a slight amount of movement to the pieces. As long as you are not seeing any major performance issues, then there is no defect or issue with the bat.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
