The benefit of the 2 5/8 inch barrel would be that this is the barrel size one would have to use in high school and college and also makes players focus more as a poorly hit ball on this barrel size will not be as forgiving as on the 2 3/4 inch barrel.

In essence, the Marucci CAT 6 Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat: MJBBC6 would be hotter as it will feature thinner barrel walls compared to the 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBAHAX10. However, the Marucci CAT 6 Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat: MJBBC6 is designed for coach pitch only leagues as these thinner barrel wall bats will dent very easily and become defective when velocity is over 40 MPH. Also, a Junior Big Barrel bat is designed for younger players who will not be able to generate as much bat speed as high bat speed can also lead to the bat becoming defective in a short amount of time.

Actually, the only Hex Alloy bat that has been released is this 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBAHAX10). There actually was not a 2015 model of the Hex Alloy. Based upon your player's height and weight, my general suggestion would be a 29" option of this 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBAHAX10). As long as your player can handle the 19 oz weight of the 29" option of this bat, I would recommend that size option.

My son is just under 100 lbs and is 5'3" playing 14U this fall/next spring. We need a drop 5 or 3 - makes a lot of contact but doesn't hit for power. Used a 31/19 for most of the season and 31/21 when we faced slower pitching. We need something that is not end loaded. Was looking at this bat or any other bat you suggest. You could definitely drop to a 30" if you feel like it was needed. But I think he will be fine with a 31". I would highly recommend the 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBAHAX10. It is a very balanced bat and will feel light.

Because of those features, it should be legal in just about all travel ball circuits, but will not be allowed in any division of Little League sanctioned baseball. Based upon your player's height and weight, I think that a 30" length of bat would be good for him. Since he has been using a 29"/19 oz size and been doing well, I don't think you need to move all the way up to the 31"/21 oz size. However, we have this 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBAHAX10) in the 30" and 31" sizes. The 30" would be best for this exact point in time, but the 31" would last the longest for him into the future.
